Video: CZ Scorpion EVO 3 9mm Carbine

I used to own a Marlin Camp 9 9mm carbine and really enjoyed it. The carbine length barrel would zip that 9mm bullet downrange with a bit more oomph. Even out to 75-100 yards it was a ball hitting soda cans and milk jugs.

At my local gun shop – Nichol’s Store – I spotted the CZ Scorpion EVO 3 9mm carbine. I mistakenly thought it was a Sig MPX but soon discovered my error. I took a look and really liked how it felt. As an “All–American Gun Nut“ would love to add this to my collection. With the folding stock reminds me a bit of the AR-180 concept as far as storability and concealment.

I continue to put together a survival library that will be second to none. The goal here is to have everything on a large flash drive – possibly 128 gigabytes. Insert the USB drive into a laptop and a menu will pop up. Super easy to use and accessing all the information will be a breeze. Well – that is the goal.

Most everything will be PDF – plus lots of video’s. The drive should also work on a Windows-based tablet as long as there is a USB port available.

For some reason been thinking a lot about survival back in the 80’s. I remember certain products, magazines, books, and guns that were popular back then. For those old enough to have been into preparedness back in the 80’s there were some pretty cool stuff back then. This was all before the Internet and folks were fairly sure who the enemy was – the Soviet Union.

Jericho Episode 16 – Winter’s End

Here is the sixteenth of a weekly installment discussing an episode of the popular TV series – Jericho – which aired originally back in 2006. Every Tuesday night we are watching an episode and then will discuss what happens the following day. It can be watched free on Netflix or purchased on VUDU. Jericho is also available on DVD.

Summary:

Due to overworking April goes into labor too soon and serious complications develop. Always-drunk Kenchy comes to her aide. Hawkins is questioned about Sarah’s whereabouts. The deal with Newbern becomes more complicated and it appears conflict between the two towns is inevitable. Food and gas is becoming scarce.

Discussion:

The importance of alternative heating is incredibly important. Imagine 20 degree temps for days on end with no power to run the central heating system. Alternative methods for heating must be planned for NOW – not sought out later. Transportation is underrated as something to consider for a grid down event. Having means by which ti not just transport yourself but goods needs to be considered and planned for. Walking is a last resort.

Appreciate everyone’s patience as I had to take a break from posting last week. Things are going better. Unfortunately the young man that moved in had to be asked to leave. You live and learn.

So….Castro’s dead. Yeah – old news now. The most telling event to occur related to this is how Obama raised Castro up like he may have been some kind of great humanitarian or something. Unbelievable.

A college in Massachusetts removed the American flag as it wanted to make a statement regarding LGBT rights. Folks – this makes about as much sense as a soup sandwich. Think about it. The United States in one of a few countries where the LGBT community can carry on their lifestyle without being put to death or locked up.

Unbelievable.

Reports indicate firearm sales have surged since Trump was elected – in the black community. I am all for people utilizing and taking advantage of their 2nd Amendment rights however I suspect the reasoning behind this increase will not turn out well.

Inexpensive Long Term Food Storage: Canned Goods

I can’t imagine the incredible amount of food every year that is thrown away because the magical “best buy” or expiration date arrives. It is really a waste. There are many instances where canned foods have been consumed 10 or more years after the expiration date with absolutely zero issues. While I am a big believer in freeze dried foods, rice, and other common foods used for long term storage canned goods should not be ignored.

A good example of this: A 40 year old can of sweet corn was found in a basement in California and a can of relish was discovered aboard the sunken USS Monitor. The foods in both cases were perfectly edible. In fact – the canned corn was reported to no different than fresh.

While canned goods hold several negatives compared to freeze dried they remain extremely budget-friendly and tasty with superior choices which to choose.

Just don’t forget the can opener.

KMASHI Portable Power Battery Bank – I have been using one of these for the past several weeks and it works great. Enough capacity to charge my cell phone at least twice – it is great for when a power cord or outlet just isn’t available. Works for pretty much any device that will charge via a USB port.

Prep’s This Week

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Mine was very good. Weather has been overly warm. Due to a change of plans hunting was delayed until this morning(Saturday). Things have been busy as I covert my shed into an extra bedroom and I just now got it empty and most everything into storage.

Posting this upcoming week may be slim due to the shed project.

As far as prep’s this week I put away 500 rounds of 9mm and 80 rounds of .223 Remington. Took advantage of some Black Friday sales. Worked toward completion of my new AR project(more on this later). Picked up a 10,000mAh power pack for charging cell phones and tablets on the go. Started reading the book The Borrowed World. So far really enjoying it.

Checked out a Shield 45 for a second time – I like it.

Prep’s This Week
Seemed like everyday was Christmas when I got home from work. A lot of packages arrived and waited for me on the kitchen table for things that I ordered. Mentioned several last week.
- My 16″ Mid State Specter .223 Wylde Gen3 Slim Rail upper arrived. Fantastic – can’t wait to finish the new build. Eventually going to build an upper myself rather than buying on already complete.
- My Yaesu 2900R 2 meter ham radio showed up. Over the next several weeks hope to get it set up. Mounting in my Jeep JK will not be easy. May use it at home for a period of time.
- Received a ProMag 15-rd magazine for my Hi Point 9mm carbine. ProMag has a colorful reputation. My experience with their magazines have been mixed so hoping this one will prove reliable.
- Two Kel-Tec PMR30 30-rd. magazines arrived. This brings my total for my PMR30 to four. Would like to get at least one more.
- Received two Jetbeam Jet AAA flashlights. 135 lumens in a very small light. Perfect for EDC.
- Made more headway cleaning and organizing the garage.

With Christmas coming keep in mind that white LED Christmas lights are a great way to light up areas and use very little juice. Perfect to use with an inverter and a battery or two. Even non-LED’s work well.

Rourke’s new AR Build

As a certified gun nut and a true believer than “too many guns” is something that should never be uttered – I am putting together another AR-15. Figured I would discuss what I am doing and discuss a few options I am looking at. Feel free to chime in….

LOWER:

I already have the lower. It was originally an 80% lower that I and only I and absolutely no one else machined to 100% completion. The lower came from 80-lower.com. I finished it out with an Anderson lower parts kit and a PSA M4 stock kit with buffer tube.

TRIGGER:

I am looking at several different triggers right now. One is the Hypertouch EDT which I have in my AR pistol. Great trigger breaking at around 5-5.5 pounds and for the money is excellent. Another I am considering is the Rise Armament RA-140. With a trigger pull of 3.5 pounds it is on the light side however as this will be a magnified optic mounted weapon that could prove beneficial.

UPPER:

I have done business with Mid State Firearms and so far have been extremely happy. Looking at all they have to offer I decided on a 16″ free-float barrel with an 1:8″ twist rate. I chose 1:8″ as it provides a good twist rate for a multitude of loads and as I shoot only 55 and 62 grain rounds it works. The slim rail is fantastic and inclusion of picatinny rails provide attachment points. At $279.99 it’s a bargain.

Note: I am not a fan of attaching a bunch of accessories to a rifle. About the only thing I might attach via picatinny is a weapons light or an angled foregrip.

SIGHTS/OPTICS:

I am planning to install standard Magpul Rear and Front back up sights. These fold down out of the way for use with an optic. In addition to open sights I want to add an optic with magnification.

One possibility is a Vortex Strikefire II paired with a flip mount 3X magnifier. I have used a similar setup and while it works well I am leaning towards a 1-4X scope such as the Vortex Crossfire II.

STOCK/GRIP:

While the standard A2 grip works I would like something that fills my hand a bit better. I’m looking at the Hogue AR grip. The Hogue feels great. As far as the stock the standard adjustable M4 works just fine however I am looking at Magpul CTR or Hogue stock. I played with the notion of investing in an expensive sliding rail stock such as this, or this – but have decided against it.

FLASHLIGHT:

I am going to mount a flashlight on one of the front rails. Currently looking at the InForce 200 Lumen Weapons Mounted Light. There are more powerful lights however I’m concerned with being blinded if my beam hits a wall or object nearby. 200 lumens is plenty bright.

MAGAZINE:

Most likely I will continue to use standard PMAG’s or aluminum mags with this firearm. I am looking at picking up a Magpul D-60 but they are ridiculously expensive.

BOLT CARRIER GROUP:

Will likely order a standard BCG from Mid State or PSA. I am not of the belief that special coatings add anything to the performance of the firearm – just cost. Bolts will last more rounds than I will ever shoot out of the gun.

OTHER:

Single point sling adapters, charging handles, etc. – I’ve not really looked into these a whole lot. I like things simple and I have seen some charging handles out there with metal sticking out all over the place. Guess that makes it easier to grab – or get caught on something.

Summary:

The marines arrive with word that the Federal government is getting things under control and will be offering additional aide to Jericho soon. Jake and his father realize that these marines are not what they seem and handle the situation. In the meantime Robert Hawkins finds that Sarah is not on his side and is searching for the hidden nuclear weapon.

Discussion:

Loved this episode. Hey – Jericho got a tank! The main lessons from a preparedness perspective gathered include paying attention. You never know when something may catch your eye and save your life. Trust and suspicion is something else. In this episode the marines come into town with a good story. People were so willing to believe out of desperation that help was on the way and that these folks were the real deal. Desperation can cloud judgement and create problems from wrong decisions.

The “survival mindset” is often discussed and that mindset is made up of different characteristics. In this particular episode AWARENESS saved the day.

What a week!!!! Emotions ran all ends of the spectrum and ended certainly up on the high side.

Made a couple significant purchases –

Ordered an upper to further a new AR build project. I selected the 16″ Mid State Specter .223 Wylde Gen3 Slim Rail version. This is my second upper purchased from Mid State Firearms so obviously I am very happy with my first.

Ordered a Yaesu 2900R 2 meter ham radio. After a lot of research I selected this mobile radio due to its excellent power(75 watts), not fan, and rugged reputation. Many in the 4×4 community use this radio while off-roading and with a tall whip antenna report excellent range. I have not ordered any additional cables, mounts – or even the appropriate antenna yet. November 29th I start ham radio classes.

I considered purchasing an HF radio such as the Yaesu FT-857D. With some recent events I don’t feel the sense of urgency to get this level of radio right now – but will early 2017. Having the lack of knowledge on how to use a radio of this type I’ll look closer at getting one after my upcoming class.

Also ordered a ProMag 15 round magazine for my Hi Point 9mm Carbine as well as 2 30-round Kel-Tec PMR30 magazines. Found these on sale from The Sportsmans Guide.

Made some headway on organizing supplies. Seems like an endless battle. Getting there.

Started some Christmas shopping and did so with a preparedness-twist: bought my youngest a Smith & Wesson M&P15-22 .22LR semi-auto carbine. I have one of these already and love it.

I caught myself recently telling a friend that I just could not understand why a carbine such as the old Marlin Camp 9 was not made today. I mean – Ruger made a 9mm carbine and others have. Some were ridiculously expensive but I am looking for something like the Camp 9 – reasonably priced.

Then it hit me – the Hi Point 9mm carbine. Hell – I even have one that I picked up cheap via private sale. Brand new under $300 it certainly is an answer for those asking the right question.

I still miss my Camp 9.

Leaving Magazines Loaded: Often a topic that creates heated arguments is whether to leve magazines loaded or unloaded over the “long term”. There is the key, isn’t it? What is “long term” to one person may not be to another. Here is my bottom line:

“If they must be loaded leave them loaded for as short of time as possible.”

If a box of magazines is stuck up on a shelf to sit and gather dust for a few years why load them? If a vest hangs in the corner ready-to-go in a moment’s notice load ’em up but regular practice should allow some rotation.

If one truly feels the need to load up a hundred magazines and store them away for years to come in ammo boxes real-world evidence shows they SHOULD function fine. Understanding that metal fatigue does occur EVENTUALLY regardless of the spring type I don’t see the reason to take the risk.

Jericho Episode 13 – BLACK JACK
Here is the thirteenth of a weekly installment discussing an episode of the popular TV series – Jericho – which aired originally back in 2006. Summary:

The town’s fuel reserves are critically low and solutions are needed. Jake, Johnston and a few others travel 200 miles to Black Jack Trading Post to look for needed parts to build windmills. Things do not work out there however new contacts are made from a nearby town. Heather goes with new friends to Newbern to assist in the construction of the windmills.

Hawkins old colleague moves into the house and tensions rise. More information begins to come out as to Hawkins and Sarah’s relationship and the purpose of her arrival in Jericho.

Discussion:

Thought this was a great episode and there was a lot there preparedness-wise:
- Resources are Limited – fuel, medicine, food, and anything else that was purchased prior to the bombings will run out. Consider putting together a list of stuff that is used frequently and without things would be difficult. Many of these items are very inexpensive. I’m sure the folks in Jericho wish they had put back many of these items.
- Bartering – No doubt in a true collapse situation bartering would become a common and useful form of commerce. Even today bartering is used frequently.
- Dark Age Law Will Return – With the absence of law enforcement harsh and dark justice will be carried out. Common minor crimes today will be looked at quite seriously under collapse conditions. Simple theft or “shoplifting” will result harsh punishment.
The town meeting discussing the lack of fuel should send a big message – stock up now while you can.

Review: CR123 Battery Case

Several weeks ago purchased a unique case off GearBest.com that holds CR123 batteries. It cost around $5 so I gave it a shot. No need for a long drawn out review on something so simple – it works.

The purpose of this battery case is to hold CR123 batteries in place and protect them from the elements. It also serves from keeping them from touching each other potentially causing a fire. Is this a real survival necessity? Absolutely not – but it is useful and is pretty cool.

With the top screwed on securely it feels fairly rugged and is waterproof. It holds a total of 7 CR123 batteries. There are 6 spaces around the interior of the case however another will fit in the middle.

At around $5.00 and free shipping I am going to order a few more. Finding more and more my flashlight fetish is being met by lights which are powered by CR123 batteries. These are great to “grab and go” knowing that I’ll have plenty of power for my flashlights when needed.

Prep’s This Week

Hope this finds everyone safe and secure.

Hurricane Matthew has wreaked havoc along the southeastern coast of the United States. I frequent Myrtle Beach a few times per year and right where I was standing not two weeks ago has been destroyed. Piers I have walked down and fished are gone. They are washed away into the salty abyss. Reports are still coming in regarding the loss of life. I can only pray the loss is extremely minute.

I am over 3 hours away from the coast. We received a substantial amount of rain and a few gusts. Really not too bad though there were many trees that fell and drains clogged causing street flooding. Nothing compared to Hugo who marched inland and left tremendous destruction.

I was recently asked about steps t take when a hurricane is coming. My advice? Get out. If there is any serious threat then get out and get inland away from that threat.

This week I continued testing my newest acquisition – a Ruger 22/45 Lite along with an AAC Aviator 2 suppressor.

Awesome piece of armament. Fun to shoot and a valuable tool.

Food Storage: Added a few things to stockpile. Mylar packed 20 pounds of sugar and went to the local Aldi’s and bought several cases of canned goods. Also just placed an order through Emergency Essentials taking advantage of their massive Mountain House freeze dried food sale.

Picked up a couple of boxes of .308 and .243 for the bolt actions. I really like my son’s Mossberg Patriot in .243.

Been looking at building a house out in the country. I worked up a preliminary floor plan.

Jericho Episode 10 – Red Flag

Here is the tenth of a weekly installment discussing an episode of the popular TV series – Jericho – which aired originally back in 2006. Summary:

Someone airdrops several packages of supplies in the area around Jericho. Some bad guys come in and take a generator. The town organizes to go in and take the generator back while a mysterious character steals it back to prevent a firefight.

Controversy erupts over who gets the dropped supplies while an election is pending for Mayor.

One of the main characters end the episode in not very good condition.

Discussion:

One of my favorite episodes. The Fall has arrived in Jericho and Thanksgiving is right around the corner. Concerns over the coming winter emphasizes the importance of stocking up on supplies and also to consider off grid warmth. Jericho is becoming more violent with outside forces creating issues. This is overdue and no doubt would happen sooner in reality.

Football games(fun) and “love” will continue regardless of the conditions as humans adapt and look for ways to maintain their sanity. Something to consider as far as preps: birth control. A pregnancy with minimal medical care could be disastrous.

Security remains a constant issue in Jericho and is a lesson to be learned. Bad people exist and you never know where they may be. Patrols, “neighborhood watches”, and security forces are needed – as well as rules.

Jericho Episode 9 – Crossroads
Here is the ninth of a weekly installment discussing an episode of the popular TV series – Jericho – which aired originally back in 2006. Every Tuesday night we are watching an episode and then will discuss what happens the following day. It can be watched free on Netflix or purchased on VUDU. Jericho is also available on DVD.

Summary:

The mercenaries from Rogue River are on the way. Ravenwood arrives outside of town at the Richmond Ranch. Stanley’s confrontation with them ends peacefully and he bolts to town to tell Jake. The men of Jericho decide to take a stand at the bridge leading into town. Jake and Eric disagree on a plan to blow the bridge to stop the mercenaries.

Emily struggles as today is the day she was supposed to marry Roger.

Discussion:

A couple things I took from this episode:
- Someone has to take charge of those who need it. Hawkins and Jake take the lead on the bridge to establish barriers and organize the security force.
- Tough decisions have to be made. Both Jake and Eric make tough decisions and are confident they are right.
- Flares. Although radio’s are a great way to communicate there could be reasons they may not be able to be used. A flare is used to signal Ravenwood was coming. Not a bad idea to put back a few flare guns and extra flares.
- Networking is critically important. Going it alone isn’t likely to lead to a high level of success.
- A bottle of Scotch can lead to a good time.
As what was commented last week I was surprised the armament on the bridge was not more “modern” with at least some AR’s. Of course remember this was 2006 and the popularity and ownership of modern “black rifles” was not back then what it is today.

Firearms and knowing how to use them is of paramount importance.

Prep’s This Week

Busy week but a good one. Interesting that for whatever reason this past week I found myself thinking with great clarity. Hopefully it continues.

Took out a small loan from my 401k and paid off my Jeep. The payments are less, lower interest rate, and the money goes back directly to me. Pretty happy about this. Debt reduction remains on the list of “things to do” when it comes to preparedness.

Filled up my vehicles and several 5 gallon gas cans. As of Saturday afternoon a few gas stations have run out of gas and prices have jumped up some. A lot of people have not heard about the pipeline break. My increased purchases are probably contributing to the shortage. Oh well. Still don’t think this will be serious but just taking precautions.

Added two more American Silver Eagle 1 oz. coins purchased from Montana Rarities.

Picked up wood and a variety of soil to start building raised beds in the garden. Will start putting things together shortly.

My order from Springfield Armory arrived containing 10 7-rd. magazines and a leather holster.

Placed an order with Luckygunner.com for some 9mm and 5.56 ammunition.

Worked on two projects – an ammo can solar portable power station and a perimeter alarm system. Both of these will be in the PROJECT section of this website within the next couple weeks. They will not be complete but there will be enough to give an idea of what they’re all about.

I continue to see incredible division in this country. I can feel the tension between different groups of people especially racial tension. Sad.

Southeast to Experience Gas Shortage

State of emergencies have been declared in both Georgia and Alabama due to a main fuel supply line leaked an estimated 250,000 gallons on September 9th. Due to the leak the line has been closed and is under repair. It is estimated the fuel supply will begin flowing again sometime next week.

AAA is reporting that parts of North Carolina, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Mississippi will experience some level of shortage and price increase. The overall impact SHOULD be minor in significance as alternate supply sources are being moved into the affected areas.

If you live in the southeast it doesn’t look like there is a need to panic however there is no better time to top off your tank than now. Situations like this remind us having extra fuel put back is a good idea.

Layering your Kits
When dressing for activities in the out of doors we often use layering so that we can add or remove layers as needed to meet our needs in changing temperatures or climates. This same approach can be used when making our many different “KITS”. Everyone has their EDC (Every Day Carry) items that they have on them at all times, so that one is hopefully a given. On top of those items we usually consider having our “72 hour kit” ready to grab and go in an emergency, but that is where we start to see so many questions regarding what to put in them and the INNUMERABLE lists that are available online. I would like to offer some very Basic Guidelines to help people create a kit that is perfect for THEM, not someone who lives in the Antarctic or the Sahara.

First of all let’s take a look at your EDC. Consider everything you have in your pockets or on your belt at all times. These items would be your Every Day Carry items, and while some duplication can be great, when you have to carry a lot of stuff, weight matters. So write down what your EDC is, and put that aside.

Next look at what you believe would be appropriate and applicable for you to include in your CORE Kit. This kit would be your bug out bag (BOB) / “72 Hour Kit”. It would have things you may need to survive outside of your home for a short period of time. The term “72 Hour Kit” is a bit of a misnomer since even FEMA recommends 4 days of emergency supplies. I always remember that it took FEMA 5 days to get water to the Superdome after Katrina, and they knew it was coming. This kit would be able to be easily carried and would include the basic items you would need to live for 4-5 days. Things like, basic clothes, personal hygiene, a small personal first aid kit, limited tools, and a few days your prescriptions as well as food and water.

Lastly we come to the more extensive layers of our kit. These would be specialty items that each person could have to fill their roll in a family / team setting. These layers would include things like: Cold / Hot weather, Trauma / Medical, Personal Protection, and Extended duration or distance. These layers are things that could be easily added, or attached, to your CORE layer and still allow you to be mobile. They may be due to seasonal requirements, personal / medical needs, or based upon your education / training and things that you are proficient in the use of. I know many people who spend over $1000.00 on a professional Trauma kit from one of the plethora of online stores, but they are neither trained, nor capable of using some of the specialized equipment in them. I have seen people at the counter of the local gun store being sold the latest piece of civilianized military weaponry (sarcasm intended) that they will take home, and put in the safe with its 10rd magazine (that they will call a clip) and have no idea how to operate. These things can make them dangerous. Even someone who has never stayed overnight in a snowy winter environment can be a danger to themselves and others if they don’t know what they don’t know.

So to finish up, I have not supplied another “LIST” for you to read through, because your needs are different from my needs, and you don’t live where I live. If you are not willing to think out and investigate what you will need, then might I suggest that you go check on the latest lineup of arm chairs at the furniture store to be more comfortable watching reality shows.

Jericho Episode 4: Walls of Jericho

Summary:

A short video is seen on a TV at Bailey’s bar just as their generator runs out of gas. Crisis hits as the hospital generators are running out of fuel and a stranger is found with radiation poisoning. He is taken to the hospital and disagreements occur between medical personnel and town leaders as to what to do with him.

Hawkins solidifies himself as a mysterious character with questionable intentions as he knows “Victor” – the patient with radiation poisoning. Victor dies but not before stating there are refugees outside the town. A group goes searching for them and what is found is not pleasant.

The mystery surrounding Hawkins deepens.

Discussion:

Not surprisingly fuel scarcity is becoming a major concern even after just a few days. Although there are sources for fuel it must be sought after and gathered. For preppers stored fuel is extremely important. Transportation for food gathering, visiting those within your network, moving people for security and work – fuel is needed. Fuel for generators is important. Although many scoff at the idea of any modern conveniences after any type of collapse I will gladly keep refrigeration, mass information systems, and moving vehicles.

Prep’s this week?

Note: For some reason this post did not go live Sunday morning as scheduled – whoops!!

Most of my prep’s this week involved fewer tangibles and more “prep” work.

I downloaded an app on my phone and started quizzing for an upcoming ham radio technician test. Long overdue. I do not have a test date yet but so far enjoying the questions and learning a bit. This is more memorization than learning but a step in the right direction either way.

I sold my 1997 Mustang GT Convertible. Main reason was to fund the purchase of night vision equipment and to add to my emergency fund. Right now I am planning on purchasing an ATN X-Sight 3-12 Day/Night Scope. Quite an interesting optic. Currently priced at around $580 I have seen it drop under $500 on Amazon so I am watching and waiting. Would love a PVS-14 but just cannot afford that level of night vision.

I have been working on trying to set up a 20 miles radius communications system. This would allow communications with most all group members. Been working on this for quite a while trying different things and have had no success. Local ham repeater provides what we need but we need a backup.

Talking wth some fellow SurvivalistBoards.com members others have succeeded where I have failed. Using higher power ham radios such as the Yaesu FT-2900R and premium coax along with a yagi 7 element antenna or possibly a Comet GP9. Antenna height is critical so looking at a way to get it at least 30 feet up on my property. Retreat set up will be much easier.

Purchased 25 pounds of sugar. Need to throw it in some mylar. Also bought a variety of spice and herb mixes at Sam’s.

About halfway through Book 2 Ichabod: Seven Cows, Ugly and Gaunt. Great read.

Ralph’s Personal IFAK

So to begin, IFAK is a military acronym that stands for “Individual First Aid Kit”. It’s history goes all the way back hundreds of years when soldiers would carry bandaging cloth just in case they became wounded on the battlefield. It evolved to what is now found today with the modern soldier’s IFAK. They are impressive, and can handle a great deal of injuries and issues. I decided to go on a personal mission and develop my own style for myself, and my preparedness group.

The mission of this IFAK is to assist with life saving measures starting with traumatic limb loss, heavy laceration with arterial bleeding, gun shot wounds, to allergic reactions. It’s based on my years in the field as an EMT assisting in motor vehicle accidents, shootings, stabbings, suicides, allergic reactions, and cardiac arrest. From boo-boo’s to dismemberment!

This kit is designed to be on my body and that of my group’s members at all times when on perimeter patrol, bugging out, searching for supplies, foraging, etc during a SHTF style event. Every member has their own IFAK so that if they become injured, the contents of THEIR kit will be used on THEM. Likewise, the contents of my kit will be used on ME. Each kit is customized to the individual person to meet special demands that person may have medically. Every person in my group is also cross trained on everything in these kits.

All of this goes into the Condor Rip-Away EMT pouch. LOVE IT and also highly recommended.

In addition to all of this, I also keep in my car a full trauma kit. This is a completely separate kit from the IFAK and is about the size of a small suitcase. Inside it are most of the same contents of the IFAK. Differences are…

Jericho Episode 3 – “Four Horseman”

Summary:

The rain everyone was seeking shelter from in Episode 2 has arrived. Hawkins conducts a mysterious maneuver in the rain wearing an NBC suit. The escaped prisoners at the ranch are no longer a threat. Emily, Jake and the others wait in the basement for the rain to stop and wonder the condition of Stanley. Tensions in the mine rise with each passing moment. Mayor Green’s sickness is becoming more serious.

Once the rain ends and people come out the questions remain – What has happened? Who did this? Is help coming?

Jake pushes his idea of sending people out in different directions to gather information. Four parties are selected and they head out – including Jake and local political businessman Gray Anderson.

During his travels Jake comes across a large airliner that used a highway as a landing strip. The townspeople cook all remaining perishable food due to no refrigeration with a big Mainstreet party.

Discussion:

Great episode and from a preparedness perspective some key points hit me:
- Shelter is important. In this episode protection from potential radioactive fallout was needed. Protection from the cold winter weather or something else entirely could be next.
- Communication is critical. The entire town is stressed not only over a mushroom cloud going off but what the future holds. Just a bit of information from a Chinese TV broadcast has everyone theorizing what happened and who did it.
- At the very end of the episode Dale discovers a train sitting idle on nearby tracks. He is searching for supplies. Something to consider is that supplies can be found in a variety of places.
- Keeping your head is important. These are stressful times in Jericho and those that can think and rationalize are doing better.
Don’t forget to watch Episode 4 next Tuesday night.

Madame President Clinton’s Coming War on the Blogosphere, and Your Countermeasures

Now that Hillary (“Hitlery”) Rodham Clinton (HRC) has received the Democratic Party nomination for president, there is a strong likelihood that she will win the election in November and then be enthroned as president in January of 2017. I predict that she will waste no time in launching an onslaught of punitive new policies via executive orders, presidential memoranda, and policy directives promulgated through her cabinet and Federal agencies to eviscerate our Constitutional rights (most notably the 1st and 2nd Amendments). A key goal this campaign will be silencing dissent in the alternative press and the American blogosphere. Given HRC’s history in government “service”, her outlook on life, her socialist agenda, and her vindictiveness, I anticipate that any or all of the following measures will be undertaken by the HRC Administration:
- The Department of Justice (DOJ) will be used to selectively prosecute dissenters for “hate speech”. For instance, simply objecting to illegal immigration or state sponsored relocation of Muslims will be called “evidence of hate.” They will also declare blogs, news sites, and podcasts to be “public accommodations” and hence saddle them with a long list of new restrictions that would effectively muzzle them from making any comments opposed to HRC’s agenda and “protected” classes. Even the use of “trigger words” could be restricted.
- The Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) will be used to target dissenters who make any comments about any corporations, mutual funds, or banks, for “operating as unregistered investment advisors”.
- The Federal Election Commission (FEC) will be used to target Libertarians and other dissenters for “unlawful campaigning”.
- The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will use their newly-assumed powers over the Internet to enforce a new radicalized version of the moribund Fairness Doctrine upon bloggers, vloggers (video bloggers), podcasters, as well as newspapermen, magazine writers, and talk radio hosts. Under this new and improved fairness policy, any media outlet that is deemed a public accommodation will be forced to free of charge provide equal space to assorted perverts, leftists, and Social Justice Warriors. Failure to do so will open up these news outlets to both criminal prosecution and costly civil lawsuits.
- The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will be used to selectively audit tax filings, levy bank accounts, garnish wages, and refer criminal prosecution of anyone who voices dissent of HRC’s statist/collectivist agenda. Lois Lerner’s group was just the precursor!
- The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will be used to target dissenters who own property with seasonal puddles that could be deemed “wetlands” or creeks that could be arbitrarily declared “navigable waters”.
- The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency will be used to target dissenters living within 50 miles of the Mexican or Canadian borders for harassment and intimidation, searching their homes without warrants.
- The Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) and associated Tribal Police will be used to target dissenters living within 100 miles of any Tribal Reservation for harassment and intimidation.
- The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) will crack down on any bloggers who make posts that might be construed as a product review or product endorsement.
- The Transportation Security Agency (TSA) will be used to limit the travel of anyone deemed by HRC’s cronies to be an Enemy of the State (through expansion of the No Fly List, Terror Watch List, and Selectee List).
- The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will crack down on producers of raw milk and nutritional supplements (and also on the bloggers who promote them).
- The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will prosecute anyone operating unlicensed drones weighing more than just a few ounces.
- The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) will use both its own agents and paid (or coerced) surrogate agent provocateurs to infiltrate militias, patriot groups, and secessionist organizations. There, they will foment schemes that can be prosecuted under loosely-worded Federal conspiracy laws. (This is precisely what was done with the Bundy Ranch and Malheur Wildlife Refuge protestors.)
- Working in conjunction with the FCC, the U.S. Coast Guard will board any ship within Territorial Waters that they suspect of operating an unlicensed transmitter.
I can see all of this coming, and I refuse to be muzzled. I aim to misbehave. If need be, I will relocate so that I can still blog freely. In anticipation of HRC’s possible upcoming coronation, here are some possible countermeasures for my fellow bloggers to seriously consider:
1. Contract for the use of an offshore server in a country that has minimal influence from the United States government, and move your web pages there.
2. Get set up for encrypted e-mail. (The free GPG software installed on your local PC works quite well. And for those who are less tech savvy, the paid Unseen.is service in Iceland works fine.)
3. Post provisos on your web site that are similar to my own. (Most importantly, these provisos must declare that you do not operate a “public accommodation.”)
4. Buy an Iridium satellite telephone and a set of Iridium international power adapters. (Unlike cell phones or other sat phones, calls made from Iridium constellation phones can be traced only to a particular oval satellite “footprint” that measures hundreds of miles across.)
5. Buy several inexpensive prepaid “burner” cell phones. Pay greenback cash for these phones, and use an assumed name when you eventually activate them.
6. Buy a nondescript camping trailer or RV and quietly (via face-to-face contacts only) develop a “hospitality list” of like-minded families who own parcels of land that you can bounce between, in the event that you need to take refuge.
7. Buy a spare laptop computer (preferably one that is ultra-reliable, such as a Panasonic Toughbook), a 12 VDC car adapter, and a set of international power adapters.
8. Buy a USB external long range Yagi wireless antenna to use with your laptops. (The standoff distance that these provide will make it harder to pinpoint your location when using a public wi-fi hotspot.)
9. Buy a batch of at least 40 inexpensive 2 GB USB memory sticks that you can use to physically mail (or courier) digital content, to keep your locale secret.
10. Make sure that your passport is updated.
11. Do some research to develop a short list of countries where you would consider relocating. Ideally, a country should have respect for the freedom of speech, minimal taxation, minimal influence from the United States government, and NO rendition (extradition) treaty with the United States.
12. Establish an offshore bank account.
13. Beyond just offshore residency, if you can afford it, then buy a second passport. (Typically, this is done with a “Citizenship Through Investment” program.)
14. Via encrypted e-mail, develop contacts with foreign bloggers, and get their tentative agreement to post your ghost-written articles, if circumstances change.
15. Pray hard.

What Did You Do To Prep This Week?

This past week flew by. Had planned to go to my brothers place in Georgia but had to cancel last minute due to some issues with my 17 year old. Just didn’t feel I could leave for the weekend. So – had guns and some other equipment all packed in my 1997 Mustang GT convertible ready to go. Oh well.

This week picked up my new Springfield Operator 1911 45ACP. My time spent with the Panhandle Rancher convinced me to acquire one. Need to order extra magazines, a holster, and a light to mount on the rail. I really like the Streamlight TLR-1.

I also received a Convoy L6 3,800 lumen LED flashlight from Gearbest. I ordered some batteries and a charger off Amazon and “WOW!” – this thing is incredible. The bad part of mentioning this light is Capt. Michaels is going to have to explain to his wife why he NEEDS another flashlights. I’ll post a review with some comparison pictures to show just how bright this thing is.

I watched little of the DNC convention. Basically the first night and then listened to some of Hillary’s speech.

Horrible. I have never heard such rhetoric and lies.

I’m gonna say this and if it pisses you off or offends you, then Piss on you. I don’t give a crap what party you’re for or whether you even like Trump. But you better make a tough decision and realize how it effects your children and their children. We approaching a degree of Lawlessness never before seen in this Nation.
And I will flat out tell you there is One thing and One thing alone that is there to stop it. The American Lawman. And yes, it does suck to get a ticket, it does suck to have an at fault wreck or get stopped on your way somewhere when you’re already late, but in every instance your Actions led you there. You simply brush off these Officers being ambushed, shot and killed and brutally attacked as well, by simply saying, it’s not here. Well to Us it is here, Indianapolis could be Brandon Brown, Washington state could be Marquez, we have brothers and sisters everywhere. Once you’ve driven the Heart and desire out of the Police Officer, Woe unto us all. And furthermore, without your own protection, you’re even more vulnerable to predators. Every city in the Nation can and will be Chicago with out one key ingredient, the Police. So keep cheering at their Deaths, their attacks, their families destroyed over what’s lost, for when its gone, its gone. That among other things better be heavily on your mind when you push a button in November.
