Appreciate the positive comments on how the site is going. Trying to get it a little more polished and organized. If willing those on social media I would appreciate your sharing of posts on Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, Instagram, Google+, etc. If you are a member of any prepper Facebook groups sharing there would be great. Sharing posts in survival & preparedness forums is also a way to spread the word. If 1776PatriotUSA is to get taken to the next level – I’m not the one who will take it there. It will be you.
The section at the bottom below the posts has been developed over the past couple weeks. Someone asked how long it had been there. I’ve tried to find a way to show my Instagram feed and this is the best way so far. I’m an Instagram junky.
Lastly, I am an avid Audible user. I listen to audio books every single day and over the last year or so have “read” more than 50 books all thanks to Audible. Just finishing up What’s Left of My World. Very good. As I finish each book and move on to the next I’ll change the image at the bottom of this website.

Charlottesville: The unfortunate situation in Charlottesville is the result of a certifiable nutcase. Every political party has their nut cases and these racist white nationalists are no different than their Antifa siblings.
It’s worth noting that those of us who believe we are on an inevitable path towards a second civil war – or an American Reformation – are observing this event as just one that will go down in history as the footsteps to bigger battles.
Also worth noting Trump came out and condemned the violence and the hate – while Obama sought understanding for the BLM movement and destructive protestors in Ferguson. The hypocrisy is overwhelming and the #fakenews ignores it.

The uproar over the Sig P320 “can fire when dropped” report is ridiculous. A problem? I guess – especially if you frequently drop your pistol at just the right angle with just the right pressure. It will be fixed. The origin of the insanity are those people upset that Sig was awarded the military contract in the first place. Don’t like the Sig? Don’t buy one.
I have to say the ability to use the P320 as a pistol or a grenade is pretty useful feature though!! 🙂

FYI – I shot a few rounds Saturday out of the Taurus PT-111 G2 9mm as I head towards 2,000 rounds. One of the ammo choices was the Winchester Train & Defend hollow point as pictured below. It has a fairly large hole in the hollow point and was pretty sure it would not feed. Results? No problem. 25 rounds was the limit of the test but every round fired.

Recent Preps – Had a prepper friend of mine who recently moved pass on a bunch of canned goods and assorted supplies to me. This included some camo jackets, pistol bag, and even an old Midland CB.
PlayOn Cloud: For those of us who have given up cable and satellite and still want to enjoy movies and TV have several options out there. I recently discovered PlayOn Cloud. I am just starting to mess around with it. I can “record” movies and shows from my Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime account among others. The cost is .40 cents per recording and they often have sales which drops the price down to .20 per record. All recordings are downloaded and can be viewed on any multimedia device including most Smart TV’s.
The River: Have spent a good amount of time already this year kayaking. Heading out today as well. I hope to see a big Alligator Gar on one of these trips.
Coupons: The wifey and I have recently got back into couponing. A local lady sells coupons which provides us quite a time saving opportunity. Stocking up on some essential cleaning and sanitation supplies inexpensively so far.

Time is flying by. Well over half the year is gone. I cannot begin to imagine what will happen the rest of the year(or next 5 years for that matter).

How important is it to know who may be a prepper in your area? How about a criminal? I have mentioned area intelligence – or community intelligence before. It is something I have been reading quite a bit on. Consider your retreat location. What if you failed to be aware of a “compound” 10 miles away from it. This compound is manned by 20+ people who have somewhat similar thoughts as yourself that some bad times are ahead. Is that important knowledge?
I think so.
Beyond the knowledge of the people themselves, understanding what resources are available and where they are at is important. Look around a bit. There are often solar panels in numerous locations. If there is a solar panel – I would almost guarantee there is a battery or batteries.
Safety Manager at work was throwing away medical supplies due to being expired. In particular, these were Triple Antibiotic Ointment individual foil packs. Of course, I scoffed them up.

As I work to complete my next AR pistol I’m considering using a Sig SBX brace. Part of this is to be different as my last build I used the Shockwave blade stabilizer. Another reason is the recent ATF correspondence to SB Tactical who manufactures the Sig brace. The ATF clarified that shouldering the Sig Brace does not “redesign” the firearm resulting in a felony charge to the shooter. Legally this is a plus although there is a significant controversy if the ATF’s letter truly only relates to the Sig Brace.
On second thought I may stick with the KAK Shockwave. That Sig Brace is ugly. Hmmmm……

I have started a new book. Often authors do not put forth much in details on book projects as they are fearful of someone stealing their ideas and they also like to build anticipation. In my case, the preparedness-genre of books has just about everything you can think of already written so my book will be a variation of what is already out there – most likely.
The title will be something along the lines of “The No BS Survival Plan“. I am anticipating it being upwards of only 50-75 pages as it will be written plainly and very simply – no “BS”. I am not going into the history of food storage or delve into the multitude of reasons the economy could collapse. No AK versus AR or 9mm versus 45ACP. I’m getting to the point and telling it like it is.
Here is my question to all of you –
What are your thoughts on such a book?
The feedback I am looking for is what would YOU look for out of a book – Kindle or paperback – with that title and what I have told you? Obviously, there are particulars with everyone’s own individual situation that would require any plan to be customized however I have some firm beliefs I will provide for developing a preparedness plan.
Appreciate any suggestions, insights, and advice.

Henry Survival Rifle: Picked up a brand new AR-7 Survival Rifle this week. I had a Charter Arms AR-7 back in the 80’s and it was one of my very first guns. Loved it. Fast forward to 2012 I received a Henry Survival and was very pleased with the modern updates they did to the design. As we do at times I sold it and have regretted it ever since. So – got a new one this week and am looking forward to having some fun.
Retreat: The storage shed has been completed at the retreat. Next step is loading up a trailer or two and moving supplies there. Communications system revolving around CB and 2-meter ham radio. Antenna’s are up and contacts covering several counties have been made. Some simplex range testing with handhelds coming up.
Graduation: My son did not make it to graduation. He has 1 credit to make up and starts a summer session June 12th. Hopefully, he can complete all work within 2 weeks and get his diploma.
Power Banks/Chargers: I have a fascination with portable battery/power banks. Not sure what it is but I have at least a dozen of these and they have saved the day numerous times when on trips or for some reason I can’t charge my cell phone or tablet.
Interesting information put out by the international activist group Anonymous. I enjoy watching their video’s as they provide some unique views at times. In no way do I agree with them all the time.
In this particular recently released video Anonymous lays out the pieces of the puzzle which they believe may lead to world war. Will it happen? I’m no prophet and neither are they. Understanding the threats that exist both local and worldwide is key to proper preparation.
Last week’s vacation was great. Spent time in north Georgia in the mountains. We stayed in a remote cabin that was very peaceful and had a heck of a view. The jacuzzi was nice and I dominated on the Ping Pong table. Internet access was horrible and although on vacation planned on keeping FreePrepperEbooks.com running. Just couldn’t make it happen due to the sketchy wi-fi.
Went on a great hiking trip and climbed up to see a beautiful waterfall. I brought along a LifeStraw water filter and my youngest drank water from the stream. Funny – another family we were with freaked out over drinking the “dirty stream water”. Their youngest daughter – about 10 years old – wanted to try it. She drank the water through the LifeStraw and her mother was saying how gross it was. Good memory for the kid as she escaped out of that protective shell for just a little while.
Spent some time in my Eno hammock, both during the day and at night. Very relaxing.

I felt the need to further comment on the rapidly changing events involving chemical weapons, Syria, the United States – and Russia. There is a lot of information being put out there and much of it is not based in fact. Assumptions are being made, news stories from years ago mentioned as if they happened yesterday – and conspiracy theories promoted as fact.
I’m not going to pass on a bullet point list of “facts”. Everyone should perform their own research and develop and educated opinion rather than one built on something read on Facebook.
Here’s my opinion(like everything else on this website):
The evidence is overwhelming that Assad attacked his own people using chemical weapons…..again. I do not believe that President Trump – who was not one to promote military engagement overseas – would send 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles into Syria without solid proof that Assad was involved. If someone does not believe that – well, there is not much I can say on that. I’m just passing on what I believe.
I’ve gone online and watched the horrendous footage of men, women, and children suffering from the most recent chemical attack earlier this week. Piles of bodies being stacked while relatives look for family members. Witnesses reporting on the attack itself seeing the bombs falling from the sky. What a nightmare.
The responsibility of what is happening right now falls squarely on the hands of the previous administration. Obama drew his “red line in the sand” and Assad crossed it without severe repercussions. Assad crossed the line once again this week and Trump made a statement. That statement was made not just to Syria but to North Korea, China, Russia, and the rest of the world.
Are we going to end up in a conflict with Russia? Over an assclown like Assad? I don’t think so.
The facts are out there. Research for yourself and use multiple sources – domestic and overseas. In the end, cover your own arse and prepare as you know you should.
A group of armed men and women marched at the state Capitol in Phoenix, Arizona. They open carried an assortment of AK-47’s, AR’s, shotguns, and other firearms. While this is not a common occurrence what makes the event particularly newsworthy is that those with the weapons are Liberals. Yes – they were all members of a political party that generally supports gun control.
To make a long story short a reporter at one point followed them and tried to engage in conversation. Once they stated they did not want to be interviewed the reporter pretty much turned into an assclown and tried to antagonize them. The reporter was pretty much a jerk and the armed group did a good job keeping their composure.
The true story here has nothing to do with the reporter rather the group’s presence – and their agenda. The group was made up of several anti-Trump factions including the Arizona Brown Berets, Anti-Fascist Action Phoenix, and the Phoenix John Brown Gun Club.
These groups are all supportive of the Redneck Revolt movement. Redneck Revolt is a racist pro-white movement that is anti-military and anti-capitalism – thus they have much inline with Liberals and Progressives. Their existence leads credence to the suggestion that the division in this country is growing. For those that believe we are on a path to civil war evidence is seeing an armed, anti-Trump, anti-capitalism, and anti-military movement with members marching on a state Capitol.
A bunch of snowflakes needing safe spaces?

It’s almost hilarious how the MSM is labeling the defeat of the Healthcare Bill as a giant failure for Donald Trump. 65 days into his first term….”It’s all over.” As Obamacare continues to fail I suspect it will only help provide an example of how government needs to stay out of healthcare – and the rest of our lives. Although I would have settled on a “Conservative” version that was an immense improvement over what is in place now – Ryan failed to provide it.
We’ll see what happens up next with tax cuts.

Was in the discount grocery store Aldi’s and saw they now carry a small selection of freeze dried fruit. These come in a plastic pouch rather than mylar. The fruit could be repackaged with an oxygen absorber and a mylar bag. Fairly cheap. Haven’t bought any yet.

North Korea continues their threats now saying if a single bullet is fired they will nuke the United States. The capabilities of North Korea while limited are often understated. They DO have nuclear capabilities and methods of delivery. When you have a crazy man as the leader of a nuclear-armed country all bets are off.

Spent the weekend at my brothers in Georgia and did a good amount of shooting. My latest AR build – the “Patriot” Rifle – performed extremely well. Several shooters took the opportunity to use it on some Tannerite. One shooter had never shot an AR before. Five shots equaled 5 hits at various distances. Fun!!!!

Came across this “CanCooker” at my local GS. Pretty cool take on a possible off-grid cooking method. From what I can tell it is a large pot with a tight-fitting lid that is clamped shut. A small amount of water is added – then food is thrown in. It basically acts as an oven and a steamer. There are a variety of recipes I looked at and they sound really good kinda like a Crock Pot.

Tennessee is suing the Federal government to stop forcing the state to accept both refugee’s and the financial expenses that come with them. I like it. North Korea continues their volatile actions with missile tests and threatening rhetoric. It’s easy to say they are all talk – and hopefully, they are. Need to remember those two North Korean satellites passing over the United States.
There is little excuse not to be armed in a manner which to defend yourself, your family, and your property. Prices on firearms are extremely favorable in today’s market as manufacturers fight for a suppressed demand(Hillary didn’t win) and an overabundance of supply(Hillary still didn’t win).
Take advantage, my friends. The future is uncertain. The world is an incredibly volatile place. What seems certain and predictable one day turns us into a fool another. While we hope for the best and prepare for the worst there is evil plotting against us – right this very moment.

Over on the 1776PatriotUSA FB Groupa question came up about having cash on hand and if it all comes crashing down would the government declare the US dollar to be worthless – and how long would that take. A good discussion followed however, I believe the premise of the question to be false from the start.
Hey – we all have different beliefs but as one commenter put it they had “never heard of a country declaring its currency worthless.” I haven’t either and do not see any reason why it either could happen – or would happen.
The value of that greenish piece of paper is largely what it is because people believe in its value. While I understand the effect of supply increase causing a potential decrease in value – it has not happened recently with the US dollar. Although prices fluctuate – much of what I buy today costs similar to what I paid 10 years ago. This is true even though massive amounts of money have been pumped into the system through QE.
While other countries have seen substantial inflation when their government massively increases the money supply I think the United States with its sheer mass and complex societal and monetary system is able to absorb the additional funds. I’m no economic expert but an increase in the money supply of close to 50% from 2006 to 2016 is significant. The effect seems to not be – at least not yet.
Re-reading all of the above not sure I am actually getting across what I am trying to say. The bottom line is you’re not going to wake up tomorrow and find the dollars in your wallet worth nothing. It’s coming – but it’s going to take more time.

Here is a picture of the Vortex Crossfire II 1-4X scope I mentioned yesterday in my Patriot rifle review – with the laser on. I was able to exchange the laser and went ahead and mounted it. We’ll see if the TruGlo Micro Laser holds up. It is so tiny and lightweight I really hope it does.

Going to do some work in the garden this weekend. Some may remember that I lost a lot of top soil and production last summer was about nothing. I’ve started building raised beds and also going to have a section in ground.
Around my parts seeds can go in the ground as early as the beginning of April – sometimes sooner. Typically I grow a combination of seeds and transplants – and plant every week throughout April. If a frost comes along mid-April I risk part of my plantings rather than everything. That timed planting extends the growing season as well.

One of the most common self defense objects often just lying around is the lowly – stick. I studied Filipino Balintawak stickfighting for over 12 years. I have not attended classes in a little over a year but still dabble here and there. While there are a lot of flashy moves and cool techniques much of what is taught prepares the student for extreme speed in both defense and offense = as well as quick reflexes.
Something else many who have seen stickfighting material arts is that most all techniques can be done empty handed.
I’d love to get back into it. I have tried teaching a couple friends but finding someone to make that commitment is not easy.

I started reading 299 Days again. This will be for the third time. Book 1 is a bit on the boring side starting out but by Chapter 9 it starts getting good. One of the most realistic prepper-fiction books I have ever read.

The subject of secondary income streams is often a hot topic. In a volatile economy where the median income today is just approaching that which it was in the 50’s – preparing for financial loss is prudent. Since starting ModernSurvivalOnline back in 2010 income via advertising and affiliate sales has ranged from nothing to like having a part-time job(pretty much what it was). I sold MSO over a year ago after being totally burnt out and really not sure where to take it. The desire to express my opinions on matters and participate in a community of like-minded folks never changed – thus this website.
As I evaluate my own life and goals at 47 years old I want more. Worked at the same place for 19 years. Good pay and good benefits along with a decent amount of freedom I cannot complain much. Well – maybe a little. It is really not what I want to do. The kids are getting older, I’m getting grayer, and if a change is going to be made time is running short.
This leads me to now – and I mean right now. While I cannot afford to just up and quit my job and become a Chippendale dancer(though they keep calling) I can pursue that which I really enjoy. If I could snap my fingers and find myself making a living doing something it would be internet marketing & business. I just flat-out enjoy it.
What this means is an expansion of this website – as well as others. Beyond possible monetary gains expanding the community and reaching out to more people would be fantastic. Don’t expect anything major right away. Hey – if I had never written this you’d hardly notice.
The one negative I expect to hear and I can understand is venturing out into social media more. It is required to reach my goals and is certainly the opposite of “going gray“. At this point my existence is well beyond “known”. If I am to try to make a difference in a movement to take back this country and spread the word of freedom, patriotism, and preparedness gray likely isn’t likely the right color.

Current events are inspiring discussions on Internet forums about the possibility that history will show we are in the beginning stages of a second civil war. The growing division in this country is alarming. I’ve discussed the entire “civil war” and “revolution” perspective before and have named what I call the coming event the American Reformation. While the recent election of outsider Donald Trump have given many hope that the government will be given back to the people, however the reality is while improvements may be made his election is triggering a new, more radical movement in the United States.
Since 2008 the country has become more and more divided. A large percentage of the population has woken up to the destructive actions taken by our out of control government. Government has grown far too large and far too overbearing. Racial tensions have increased, political infighting is at an all time high, and journalism is dead while agenda-based reporting rues the day. If you are reading this article you already know.
So – if Patriots have come together in such numbers that they elect a political outsider why is there not certainty that true political change will occur and the risk of an American Reformation be diminished?
Let’s consider a few things:
Hillary Clinton won the popular vote by 2.1% – or 2,865,075 votes.
Trump won the Republican primary though he received only 44.9% of the vote – thus 55.1% voted against him.
Trump won 30 states while Hillary won 21 states/districts.
In the Republican and Democratic primaries Trump received a total of 14,015,993 votes. All those running against him? 47,288,998.
The point is the entire country did not not get behind this political outsider in fact the vast majority of those politically active was against Trump and his message/movement. Obviously many came together to support Trump however his support was NOT a mandate as many suggest. While an outsider such as Trump certainly appears to bode well to act for us against the political establishment it does not erase the massive establishment and the Loyalist movement that is currently erupting.
There are serious reasons to be concerned.
Be Concerned:
The Liberal Progressive(Loyalist) movement is becoming more and more radical, hateful, and violent. Frequently threats of death and violence are seen all over social media. Celebrities, journalists, and even some politicians are actively promoting radical actions and violence against those who disagree with them(Patriots and often police). Folks – the division is growing and the list of incidents is growing.
President Obama has supported violence by lending understanding and compassion to the Black Lives Matter movement.
Racial tensions continued to grow throughout the past 8 years as President Obama continued to speak on numerous incidents without having all the facts and provided credence to those who felt victims were targeted due to their color. In almost every single case Obama’s initial take on the situation turned out incorrect.
Riots and “protests” in Liberal areas are allowed to be violent where people are injured and even killed. Property is destroyed and local politicians order “space” to be given so that the rioters can express their “feelings”.
While Liberals state that Patriots “cling to their guns and religion” and promote that Trump supporters are violent – the reality is that Liberals invaded Trump rally’s and have attacked supporters on numerous occasions.
Anti-Patriot Liberals continue to attack Trump supporters and burn the American flag on a regular basis.
Look at the mass shootings that have taken place over the last 8 years. Who carried out these horrendous deeds? Psychopaths who have a Liberal ideology.
The anti-police movement has been supported – or at a minimum condoned – widely by the Progressive/Loyalist movement.
The Mainstream Media(MSM) has blatantly misrepresented facts and under-reported stories that were either critical of the Progressive movement or positive towards Conservatives/Patriots.
….there are many more.
To sum it up Loyalists are becoming more and more hateful and violent. The recent post-inauguration protests and riots as well as the Women’s March is a perfect example of this. It is only a matter of time before more conflict and violence erupts.

What the Future Holds:
Awaiting us in the future is a growing trend of division between Patriots and Loyalists. Loyalist groups, special interests, and politicians will stop at nothing to further their agenda’s. The 1st Amendment will come under attack. The 2nd Amendment will come under attack. The Left will begin to embrace the 2nd Amendment for themselves in an effort to “arm up” against the “Alt-Right”. Social justice and alternative logic will be used to label Patriots as racist, sexist, homophobes, hate mongers who want to hurt children and old people. The MSM will be the tool used to brainwash the populace.

Conclusion:
Things are unpredictable and happening fast. No one knows precisely what the future holds. What is certain the Loyalist will stop at nothing to gain power and attempt to create an America very much different than what the Founders intended. To what extent these Progressives will go is not fully known. They are organized, well funded – and extremely motivated.
We must respond by preparing for what awaits. We must be politically active and support Constitution-supporting politicians at every level of government. We must spread the word and bring others into the fold to increase our numbers.
Preparedness Intelligence: For those of us that believe we have a better than average chance of finding ourselves in a “SHTF” – whatever that means – consider the incredible opportunity we have RIGHT NOW. Here’s an exercise –
Go sit in your favorite chair, lay on the couch – or throw a pillow behind your head in bed. Think of your own vision of SHTF. Consider the living conditions. Consider the daily tasks that will have to be completed. Consider your current inventory of items – food, water, power, batteries, etc. How long will they last? How will you feel as you see your supplies diminish? Will you be able to source more? What will the results be should you run out of some of these supplies? What items had you not thought of before?
Consider boosting your inventories and adding those maybe you thought of but do not have enough of or at all.

So my son got fired from the job he has worked for the past year – Zaxby’s. It was his first job and he made me really proud how serious he took it. He missed a total of 1 day and brought a doctors note for that absence. He received a raise about a month ago. Why was he fired? He messed up and thought he was scheduled to work at 5:00pm Sunday – he was actually supposed to be there at 11:00am. He screwed up. They called him at 12:00 and asked where he was. He jumped in the shower and drove to work – only to have a manager with a big smile on his face tell him he wasn’t needed and to go home.
He called to get his schedule for the week and was told he was fired.
I struggle letting this go although there is not much to do. So frustrating.

I’ve been experimenting with my Seek Thermal mini camera. For around $250 I am fairly impressed. I see my group having a few of these hooked to iPad Mini’s and monitoring them as part of a security surveillance system. Thermal continues to get cheaper. It’s disappointing to hear a segment of Trump supporters bail on him over one issue or even two as they disagree with Trump’s handling of certain issues. My stippling work continues onto another PMAG. This time a much more aggressive and effective pattern. Sharing with a few group members impression was positive but felt it was too aggressive. I don’t think so at all. The difference grasping ability is significant and tearing a mag from a chest rig is much more positive. Imagine a hand covered in slimy blood – the stippling would make a huge difference. Skateboard tape would assist as well.

Some discussions around brass versus steel-cased ammunition use awhile back has been on my mind. I have no issues stocking and shooting steel in my AK – however only use it for practice in my AR. I also never shoot steel in any of my pistols. Doesn’t make sense does t? Actually for me it does.
The only issues I have had shooting steel in my AR’s has been two FTF(fail to fire) rounds. Primer hits failed to ignite. I ejected the round and kept going and both occurred during training. This is two rounds out of a couple thousand – not bad. I have read on forums that others have similar experiences. I have not read the same in relation to steel in AK’s. Why might this be? I suspect it is related to hammer impact in the AR versus AK. AK’s are just less picky when it comes to hard primers than AR’s. AK’s typically have heavier trigger pulls than AR’s and this involves hammer springs to a certain extent. Lighter hammer springs increase the odds of a light primer strike.
Now – why not shoot steel in my pistols? Simply the cost savings are just not there – and reliability is certainly an issue. First I see very little in steel-cased product available. Second, the cost of steel versus brass is as small as a couple dollars per 50. Lastly I have had issues with steel – and aluminum – in some of my handguns due to the frictional difference in case material compared to brass. The rougher, less-smooth steel/aluminum takes more effort to push it out of the top of a magazine than brass.
Any concern over wear? Not me.
I continue to take advantage of the less expensive steel-cased ammo in my AR’s for practice/training.
Working out has been going fairly well. Diet has been decent except on weekends where it has been a struggle. Overall not bad and will be cranking the intensity next week.

Was part of a discussion on Facebook where someone said it really doesn’t matter if fewer people showed for the Inauguration last week than showed in 2008 or 2012. I disagreed from the perspective that it simply isn’t true – thus holding the media accountable for their lies should be done. Picked up a vehicle magnetic gun mount for my Jeep JK. So far really like it. Finished my first stippling job. I was exceedingly detailed and it turned out great. I would estimate about 2 hours on this one PMAG. Worth it? Sure. The level of gripping surface is greatly enhanced. Will I do all my mag’s? Nope. Too time consuming however I am experimenting with different patterns that take less time. Remember it is function over cosmetic appearance.

Driving around I continued to listed to The Jakarta Pandemic via my Audible app. Fantastic book. I’m enjoying it as it really seems realistic and the main character – Alex Fletcher – is pretty much a normal guy. Great story.

Iran states they will not renegotiate the nuclear deal – no matter what. I do not believe it should be renegotiated it should be cancelled/abandoned/scrapped.
