    Q & A Day…..Beans, Bullets, and Life Philosophy

Alright folks – another installment of “Q & A Day”. Basically, ask me a question and I will give you an answer. It can be about pretty much anything – politics, firearms, current events, survival, preparedness, or “What happens when you get scared half to death twice?” – whatever.

Go ahead – “make my day.”

  • Why 1776PatriotUSA?

    Why 1776PatriotUSA?

Confused by the title? That’s OK. Couldn’t figure out what to call this post so I guess I am a bit too.

Why did I call this website 1776PatriotUSA.com? Previous endeavor was solely preparedness-based. Plain and simple. With the direction this country is taking I meant to make this a place of relevant information for an adapting populace. This “populace” includes you, me, and every other like-minded Patriot we can find and convince that deliberate steps must be taken to secure our future.

This isn’t conspiracy. This isn’t crazy talk. This country is threatened from forces both inside AND out. All it takes to see it is someone to open their mind, pay attention – and think for themselves. Oh – and a belief in the Constitution and what the Founders established would be beneficial as well.

The last decade or two have generated societal change so significant that there is actually a debate going on within government as to what bathroom someone should use. Seriously. Government is spending valuable time on this subject. Imagine what Washington, Jefferson, Adams, and Franklin would think. Society has degraded to such a point that the majority of Americans believe that capital punishment is wrong but abortion is OK.

Society has fallen so far that in 2008 a man who said he wanted to fundamentally change the greatest country in the world and sat in a church whose pastors beliefs included “…not God bless America, God damn America…” was actually elected President.

Even after four years in office and well on his way of fundamental change President Obama was re-elected in 2012.

America continues to be fundamentally changed. Changed from a solid foundation of principles and beliefs that if you are a visitor at this website you more than likely believe in. Capitalism has provided an avenue for the United States to grow into an economic superpower providing countless millions with jobs and opportunity. Today there is a growing segment of the population that believes capitalism is evil.

President Obama provided insight into this anti-capitalistic belief system in 2012 when he stated your success is not due to your hard work rather it falls on the backs of others.

Senator Elizabeth Warren continued Obama’s anti-capitalist thoughts in a rant where she continued to proclaim that there is an “underlying social contract” that successful people owe everyone else.

These are leaders in our government.

Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders continue to push the “it’s us against them” rhetoric demonizing successful business people and placing barriers between them and the lower and middle class. Bernie Sanders has tremendous support and is an admitted socialist. Growing up I looked at the United States as a force for freedom against socialism and he we sit with a socialist so close to the White House.

Hillary Clinton is corrupt, dishonest and I am not at all hesitant to use the word evil. The evidence is massive. This women is actually calling the relatives of those killed in Benghazi liars. Unbelievable – yet she receives millions of votes and will very likely be our next President.

Trump? Love or hate him I would prefer him well over Hillary or Bernie any day. He  – like every other candidate – is far from perfect. He has professed his love for this country for decades and while his beliefs may have wavered and changed(like many citizens) his platform is solid. Not perfect – solid.

Back to why I created 1776PatriotUSA.com.

Consider the name. 1776 is significant as it is the year of the Declaration of Independence. The original 13 colonies severed ties with Great Britain and set a path for greatness.  Patriot is what I am and patriotism is what we need more of. Patriotism for me is an emotional thing and difficult to explain. It is a belief in an incredible idea revolving around freedom and liberty – and a moral determination of what is right.  USA is pretty self explanatory.

The future is uncertain and I believe it will be riddled with trouble. I hope to keep 1776PatriotUSA as a portal for navigating the coming storms.  Patriots may find themselves targeted. They may find themselves being victims of prejudice. They may find themselves fighting to take their country back.

As I wrap this up I could have brought up Obama’s celebrations of Islam and suppression of Christianity. I could have brought up the immigrants protesting in the streets, waving another country’s flag – and burning ours. I could have brought up the country’s outcry over the death of a celebrity but near silence over illegals continuing to cross our southern border. No need to. I’m sure you are already well aware.

Thoughts? What do you see coming?

    Rourke

From the Front Lines: Supplies, Illegals, Movies, SPAM?

Here is another installment of “From the Front Lines”. Basically a collection of random thoughts related to preparedness, current events, and whatever else that’s on my mind.

    • Organization: I need to seriously organize my preps. Far too many times I have needed something and couldn’t find it in a reasonable amount of time. Unacceptable. Last night worked on it and making just a little headway is motivating. Once mostly complete I am going to inventory everything. A spreadsheet I created a while back will calculate how many days of food I have based on “X” number of people and “X” number of calories needed per person.

    • I haven’t forgotten about the “Operational Cache” series. Last part is rather involved and working on a couple now to include.

    • Just watched the movie “The Edge” with Alex Baldwin and Anthony Hopkins. What a great movie. I have sen it several times before but it had been awhile. Can be picked up on Amazon for around $5.00 on DVD.

    • Consider that over the next 5 years there is a very good chance that several Supreme Court Justices will be appointed. If Hillary wins this will sway the court far to the left. If younger Justices are appointed we could be faced with a Liberal Supreme Court for an entire generation. Goodbye 2nd Amendment.

    • Just started reading American Exit Strategy again. What a great series. It is so timely with the way the political winds are blowing.

    • Things are going decent with 1776PatriotUSA.com. I’m certainly not putting the time into it that I spent with my previous site – priorities. I appreciate all the comments and interaction which is much better than over at MSO. I did notice that after my email to website subscribers about a special deal on Sawyer Mini Water Filters a bunch unsubscribed. Disappointing. I guessed that maybe some people thought it was SPAM but I also noticed some of those unsubscribed were longtime subscribers. Hate to see that but not much I can do. I don’t send out a lot of emails and will continue to pass on really good deals or special information when necessary.

  • What is going on?

    What is going on?

This past week has been very stressful and frustrating. This happens to me every so often when I try to comprehend the state of this country and the actions of some people. I fully realize that it is an effort in futility but nevertheless try to I do. To get back my sanity I have to tune out the news and spend time out in God’s creation.

A few things that are simply blowing my mind:

    • Actor James Woods recently stated……

“The world is fighting Islamic terrorism, starvation, and disease, but Democrats are fighting for men to pee in the ladies’ room. Insanity.”

Mr. Woods is correct. It is insane with the severity of issues at hand that the Federal government is not only filing a lawsuit against the State of North Carolina but also withholding Federal money in an effort to pressure NC into compliance.

    Bathroom Debate

All this because some sexual pervert in Charlotte managed to get a city ordinance passed to force businesses to allow men and women to use the bathroom of their choice. I can’t believe I just typed that.

For the record – transgenders are not normal and should not be treated as such. Period. Why should my rights be affected because a tiny minority of the population decides to play multiple-choice with their sexual organs and gender identity? What do you tell a little girl who goes into a Planet Fitness women’s locker room and sees “franks and beans”?  Transgenders have been using the bathroom of their choice for years now with no issue. There was no need for a bathroom equality law to begin with and was put into place to justify the existence of certain politicians and special interest groups. The laws created the problem allowing sexual perverts to gain legal access to the bathroom of their choice.

Priorities. They are absent in government.

    • There is a movement for the Federal government to raise the minimum wage to $15.00 an hour –

My brother recently mentioned he thinks the minimum wage should be raised. His reasoning is that today’s economy is not what it used to be. Good paying manufacturing jobs are a rarity and more and more people are in fact living  – yes living – on minimum wage jobs or close. While I agree wages are stagnant and opportunities have slimmed the Federal government really should have no say so whatsoever on what wage people earn.

Consider the effect on businesses across the United States if suddenly everyone had to be paid $15/hr. First of all it would not only be those making $7.25/hr that would get a raise. What about those companies that start their manufacturing employees out at $14.33? Now in order to remain competitive and attract the nest workers they may need to start their new employees out at around $18.00 per hour. This will have a domino effect on costs of products which will be passed on to the consumer. Of course companies will search for every opportunity to keep costs down including getting rid of headcount. Thus – unemployment will increase.

The free market and the States themselves should decide on what wage someone should earn – not the Federal government.

    • Illegal immigration is ILLEGAL!

Comes to America and holds the flag of the country they ran away from and demands that the new country they ran to turns into the country that they ran away from…..and nobody sees a problem here?

    mexico

Ok – some of us see the problem.

This isn’t illegal immigration. It is an invasion.

    • The country is divided.

Democrats versus Republicans.  Black versus White. Conservatists versus Socialists. Republicans versus Republicans. Democrats versus Democrats. Illegal immigrants versus Constitutionalists. States versus Federal Government. Transgenders versus Men. Transgenders versus women. Homosexuals versus Christians. Atheists versus Christians. Government versus Christians.  Muslims versus Christians. Muslims versus Atheists. Muslims versus Jews. Muslims versus…..well…..everybody.

    846939b9f8e15995dbda3f68b959d171

Everyone has an opinion and feels the need to FORCE it down everyone else’s throat. Hey – I don’t mind a debate or hearing someone else’s thoughts on a subject but in today’s world people freak out when you don’t agree. I have been called every name in the book and heard all kinds of things mentioned about my……genitalia….just because I  disagree with someone on a topic. My wife has been called names and and I have been told that I should put a bullet in my own head. There is a certain vile tone to people today that goes beyond disagreeing.

    It is called hate.

    • Age of the entitlement.

Growing up I looked at America as a land of opportunity…..for those that went out and earned it. I looked at America as a land full of AMERICANS who were capable of extraordinary feats of courage and incredible ingenuity. America was a shining beacon of freedom to the world. Now? It is crumbling under the weight of entitlement.

There is a growing populace that believe that they are owed an existence which they have not earned. This growing mindset whereby people believe that just their sheer existence entitles them to money, food, medical care, shelter – and even cell phones.

    • An admitted socialist is receiving millions of votes for President of the United States.

The support Bernie Sanders is receiving is incredibly discouraging. Someone who represents quite the opposite of those principles which this country was founded is being supported by a huge portion of the population. I think back to the generations that fought against communism, socialism, and oppression and here we are with Bernie Sanders.

    berniememe

Just another piece of the puzzle to the crumbling of America.

    • The Mainstream Media is totally lacking any investigative reporting.

The amount of corruption and anti-American activity that has been going on in government has been unreported and covered up by most of the mainstream networks. They fail to report information responsibly so that their viewers  hear the truth. One example of this is when a politician stands up and says that they have cut the deficit by $200 billion dollars – but the reality is they simply reduced the amount they are going to increase the budget the next year by $200 billion. Most people listening think that they actually are spending less money.

    truth

    • Over 300,000 children are killed every year via abortion but America freaks out when a lion in Africa is killed.

The perspective of society as a whole is seriously misdirected. The Liberal left will protest against capital punishment but then support abortion. Liberals are Pro-Homosexual and Pro-Muslim at the same time.  Yet Islam often has a death sentence for homosexual activity. Liberals will often go out of their way to support religion as long as it’s not Christianity. Liberals say they are Pro-Education yet they do not support school choice. Hmmmm……..

    lion

Liberals say they are for equality and against racism yet they continue to divide the population into segments. Race should be blind. Affirmative action is inherently racist. Continuing to point out and support programs for certain races does nothing but divide.

    • America continues to run away from God.

Do the research – America’s founding was deeply rooted in Christianity. Even many of the oldest colleges across the country have inscriptions carved into walls and buildings all over the campus about God. Decades of anti-religious indoctrination has his Christianity’s presence in the origin of this country.

    image

Christianity has provided a moral foundation for millions for hundreds of years. Today? It still occurs but to a much lesser extent. The decaying morality of its population is being led by a decreasing relevance of God.

This is but a minor sample. Nearly $20 trillion in Federal debt. Millions on food stamps. A growing segment of the population who is anti-law enforcement and pro-thug. Flag burning is becoming more acceptable.

    Gee……I don’t feel any better.

    You?

  • Where Have all of the Heroes Gone?

Where Have all of the Heroes Gone?

When I was a kid, everyone looked up to President Eisenhower with respect for his wartime service. He was a genuine hero. Along with him were a veritable host of other general officers, some alive, some dead who were also genuine heroes. I read all about the doings of Gen. Frank Everest (one of the 1950s, Fastest Men Alive), Gen. Chuck Yeager, Gen. Jimmy Doolittle (now he had some big ones), and the list goes on and on.
I remember my father and his friends standing up suddenly from their coffees at the Rexall drug counter one Saturday morning. In walked a thin old man whose face looked like any other weathered West Texas rancher. The stranger was wearing an old leather jacket with a bunch of patches and scruffy boots. Gen. Tex Hill (David Lee “Tex” Hill – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) had come to visit an acquaintance in town. I saw nothing but respect shining in the eyes of those men. What’s more, that respect seemed to go both ways. Sure Tex was a really big shot and some of dad’s friends had been WWII privates, but the great man spoke with each and shook their hands. I may even have had my crew cut rubbed as I stood sheepishly at dad’s side, wondering about this stranger suddenly in our midst.
My Boy Scout troop was led by a WWII Colonel. I shot on a rifle team led by another WWII Colonel. I was blessed to be raised at a time when there were an abundance of genuine heroes, both local and national. When the Cold War suddenly became hot in the 1960s, I could see confidence in these steady men and knew that not only that they would not run, I understood they knew how to take care of war’s deadly business. Those men held my trust and admiration. They were my heroes. I wanted to grow up and be just like dad and his friends.
My dad and his brothers along with mom’s brothers were all veterans. From what little I overheard, my father and one of his brothers did some really dangerous things in occupied France. My soft spoken mom worked for Boeing in Wichita helping make B24 and B17s flown by brave men who helped put the final end to WWII. The people in my young life were all bigger than life. I wanted to grow up and be just like them.

Something different happened in Korea. One of dad’s youngest brothers lost fingers and toes at a place called Frozen Chosin and his attitude was slightly different than that of the older siblings. Then came my generation’s war, Viet Nam. Sure we all knew who Gen. Westmoreland was, but his name didn’t carry the same respect of those WWII generals. Neither did President Johnson.

Somehow being a combat veteran was no longer admired – and the country changed.

Every generation needs heroes. My generation revered the WWII greats. Whom does the millennial generation revere? Madonna, movie actors, I don’t even know. Somehow this country has lost touch with its heroes. They are still here, but now real heroes have to compete with Hollywood fakes – and with video games.

I have seen the stars on the Memorial Wall at CIA headquarters and read from the associated Book of Honor. I have read the names inscribed in the FBI Hall of Honor at Quantico. I have read many of the citations associated with recipients of the Congressional Medal of Honor. Some of you might even be alive today because of the unsung sacrifice of that band of brothers. Most of you I fear, cannot name even one of those many, those brave souls who so loved his country and brother – and paid the ultimate sacrifice for that devotion.

This generation has genuine heroes but I can’t think of one extant national politician who qualifies. I think it would behoove each of us with children to find genuine heroes. Men and women who live or have lived their lives in a way that is both glorious and honorable and who represent all that is good in our culture.

I took what is likely a final trip to my hometown a few years ago. It was to attend the funeral of a man whom in my youth was a small town merchant. Royce Jones ran the local Western Auto where all of us boys would go to look at those neat chrome Western Flyer bicycles. I’m sure my parents knew, but I didn’t. As a lad, I didn’t have a clue who Royce really was. You see, Royce Jones flew B17s in Europe during WWII. Among his honors was the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was a real hero and worthy of adoration. Yet, I grew up in that small dusty West Texas town, never knowing who was actually running the local Western Auto.

Folks, we need to ferret out those real life heroes hiding silently in the crowds. Your children need to know them and about them. Heroes inspire greatness in each of us, their lives shining examples of what we might aspire to do or to become.

In all humbleness and with great debt,
    Panhandle Rancher

  • Ignorance is Truly Bliss

    Ignorance is Truly Bliss

I am writing this sitting in a quaint coffee shop in the town which I live. The young and the old are flocking in…lining up to buy these tiny creations of cake, chocolate, fruit fillings and numerous things I cannot pronounce. The guy behind the counter is metro-sexual to the highest level and I would place him at the opposite end of the man spectrum compared to Si from Duck Dynasty.

Uncle SiYeah….I’m being a bit judgmental as I sit with my Diet Coke and chocolate “torte” in front of me.

I can tell you I feel about as comfortable in this environment as a Trump supporter at a Hillary rally. My son is upstairs getting tutored for Algebra. Figured you were wondering why I was in here.

I’m watching these people. One right after the other. Manicures, pedicures, and perms(not that there’s anything wrong with that). They talk….well….gossip really about who did what to whom and how many times. Each seems to be making a fashion statement and consider the importance of the brand of their purse(both men and women) well over the government’s monetary policy or the number of vets that committed suicide today.

Out front sits a Prius. Is it there? Could it be? Yes! A “Bernie” sticker rides on the back of this car. Fitting.

A guy just walked in wearing skinny jeans and I am fairly certain black fingernail polish. Hmmmm…..

    I need a beer.

Of course, they serve wine….no beer.

These people have no clue. Well, I’m generalizing of course but since I’m writing this I’m allowed. The Federal debt is approaching 20 trillion. They have no clue. Over 300,000 babies will be killed this year because it just isn’t convenient to take responsibility. They have no clue. There is a North Korean satellite flying overhead that MAY contain a nuclear weapon that could send us back to the stone age. They have no clue.  I am sitting here armed…..yet somehow this evil gun doesn’t kill them. They have no clue.

What the hell is a torte anyways? Seems like a piece of cake to me.

    Ignorance is bliss.

  • Panhandle Rancher on Finicum shooting

    Panhandle Rancher on Finicum shooting

The following is a letter sent to me from Panhandle Rancher and is being published with his permission. I inquired with him about a video regarding the Finicum traffic stop and subsequent shooting. Some minor editing has been done for security reasons.
    – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
    JR,
There is a lot about that shooting that is troubling. I hope there will be hard lessons learned. Finicum was overcome with unbridled anger which sadly led to his demise. If that was his wife in the back seat [Rourke: It was not his wife in the back of the truck], she should have put away the cell phone and instead tried to calm her husband. It also appeared that she shoved her daughter out of the car first, a most unmotherly behavior.

In more urban settings, there are usually more options for dealing with felony car stops. At the xxxxx xxxxx xxxxxxxxx where I taught briefly, the instructors set up a novel and generally unwinable (is that a word?) car stop for each graduating class. One of the more innovative solutions was to call for the FD hook and ladder which had a remote controlled water cannon mounted to ladder’s end. They manipulated the ladder/water cannon to knock out a side glass and then literally washed the occupants from the car, a surefire non-lethal and terminal end to the event. The trouble is what happens in the heat of the moment – when passions flare, reason runs. I can’t tell you how hard it is to hold fire when one hears gunshots all around. I have an anecdote about the sad end of a bunch of serial jewelry store robbers sometime if you are interested. It is most unsettling to end a sudden gunfight and realize the slide is locked back with weapon empty – and not recall firing a single round. Most one on one gunfights end in a second and at close range.

Fortunately many can go their entire career without firing a round in battle, others however are vexed to end up shooting time and time again. This I do know, after surviving that first gun fight, one becomes sudden and accurate. From that point on, focus shifts to having the finest, most dependable, and most lethal equipment allowed, when walking into that valley of the shadow of death. My life certainly changed and probably not for the best. By career’s end, I found myself with a collection of ‘trophy’ photos of the slain – seemingly without conscious effort. I ran across the box of these when moving and can report them shredded. Not something to be proud of, not something I would want grandchildren to see, but even now in my 60s, you can count on me to be sudden and accurate – and to remember each and every situation in vivid detail, often revisited nightly in dreams.

The wife said it seemed to her as if the cops just wanted to kill Finicum. If that officer hadn’t run from behind the barricade ending up in front of speeding truck, then no officer’s lives would have been endangered and there would have been no rationale to shoot. I can see no action being taken against the officers (other than the HRT agents who have much to explain), but can also see a lot of training points on how to better contain a dynamic situation and control escalation. Want to bet the FBI was blocking cell phone coverage from their airplane?

The wife and I hadn’t been married long when one evening she likely saved someone’s life and me from going to jail. Another case of unbridled anger but I had a wife that defused the situation rather than focusing on her cell phone. Fortunately I have learned to better govern my emotions.

I didn’t see Finicum reaching for a weapon and I watched it twice. I was likely too busy reliving private personal horror.

I am most troubled with the way the whole event was managed; ending up in an unconfined felony car stop. It reminded me of the way I learned how to set up combat area security checkpoint stops. Have a few troops at a barricade to effect the stop, ID, and search if necessary, and then have a battle tank just out of sight around a curve or behind cover – a sure end for any who run the stop. I find the whole Finicum event, chilling.

  • Constitution: Another Step Closer to It’s Death

Constitution: Another Step Closer to It’s Death

The death of Antonin Scalia brings the death of the Constitution one step closer to reality. As the longest-serving member of the Supreme Court Justice Scalia provided a solid foundation for upholding Conservative beliefs. He was known as an “originalist.” With his absence the court will continue forward with 8 members.

This is a disaster for liberty and freedom.

First – decisions can be made with the remaining 8 Supreme Court Justices. The current makeup of the court is fairly split 50/50 between Conservative and Liberal ideologies. Upcoming cases involving abortion, immigration, unions, health care, affirmative action, and religious freedom may be decided quite differently with Scalia’s absence.

Should the court rulings be split 4 – 4 the lower court rulings will stand.

    So – what happens now?

Obama will nominate someone to replace Scalia. I suspect that he will find someone who most would consider a moderate. With the track record of Republicans in Congress they will be pressured to pass this candidate through. We do not need a Moderate we need a Scalia-like Conservative. Maybe the Republicans will block nominees from now until a new President is elected. Doubtful. If Hillary or Sanders is elected our problems will just be magnified.

History is being made right in front of us.

  • Should Religious Leaders ‘Get Political’? Yes, But …

Should Religious Leaders ‘Get Political’? Yes, But …

Rourke: The following is another insightful post written by James Robison and originally published HERE at The Stream.

    By James Robison

The U.S presidential race is heating up with the Iowa caucus just around the corner, and whenever a preacher, priest or rabbi addresses some issue of national and moral importance that our political leaders are involved in, we hear the cry, “Stay out of politics!” That view is dangerously misguided.

I have often said that religious leaders should champion principles rather than parties and personalities. When pastors rush to jump on board this or that politician’s campaign, it risks making the church appear to be an arm of a party or politician. But the solution isn’t to disengage from politics. That’s deeply dangerous. The answer instead is an energetic championing of foundational principles — including the dignity of all human life, the importance of human freedom and justice for all, the danger of unchecked political power and unlimited government, and the importance of living within our national means so we don’t drown future generations under our public debt. Championing these foundational principles means that even religious leaders sometimes will, and must, “get political.”

What if William Wilberforce had decided to “not get political” in the face of the English slave trade? What if Martin Luther King, Jr., had decided to “not get political” when it came to institutionalized racism a half a century ago? Of course they should have gotten political, and we thank God they did. But today, when faced with a culture where the innocent unborn are being slaughtered by the millions and sold for parts, and where those who aren’t aborted face the prospects of a crippling national debt a generation from now if something isn’t done very soon, well then suddenly we are supposed to “not get political.”

    Nonsense.

The truth is that all people of faith, and certainly preachers of the Word of God, are obligated to speak out boldly and to stand for their convictions. People with a secular, humanist, God-denying view that assaults Judeo-Christian biblical views and diminishes the importance of America’s founding documents are continually organizing in every community. They force their views on the population through protests and radical political activism while never voluntarily yielding an inch of their “sacred” turf, however unsacred it actually is. They expect the church community to shut up and go back to sleep, and keep our faith to ourselves.

Yes, our battle is not against flesh and blood, and we must toil for our principles winsomely and with grace, but strive we must.

There are some people who love God who have asked me, “James, are you getting too political?” Exactly what does that mean? Am I concerned? Yes. Do I care? Yes. Do I love God and people? Yes. Do I want to assist the suffering, homeless and elderly? Yes. Am I called to help rebuild the walls, restore the foundation, and faithfully present the one reliable standard — the Word of the living God? Yes, and all of this is also why I am compelled to “get political.”

But don’t misunderstand me. Although it is the right of any citizen to endorse a candidate, I don’t think it is the wisest practice for preachers in most cases. Instead, I suggest church leaders exhort all candidates, parties and voters to champion principles essential to freedom. I gladly pray for and with any candidate and have with many during this campaign.

The candidates know I don’t endorse but exhort them to seek the wisdom of Divine Providence. This keeps the door open to communicate concerns, as I have not committed to only one. I will talk to, counsel, challenge, pray for and with any candidate running for any office or holding any office. I will love them all even if I firmly disagree. But understand: I will not be silent concerning issues of life and freedom, becoming an inspire-no-one preacher. As a minister of the Gospel and one called to deliver the truth that sets us free and keeps us free, I will endorse biblical truth, compassion, strong marriages and families, and the importance of everyone assuming responsibility for their actions.

I must speak truth in the political sphere as well as elsewhere, confronting evil and foolishness in government in the same way the prophets of the Bible did. And I challenge all leaders in the faith community to stand up for faith, freedom and life. In spite of the protestations to the contrary, many of the secularists with their grip on the reins of power in our nation’s institutions don’t want an open discussion of the root problems facing our nation and world, so they focus on disqualifying the opponent. If they can get the public to dismiss or disqualify the faith perspective, they don’t have to defend their own inadequate solutions.

But don’t fall for it. Don’t fall for their invitation to practice “freedom of worship” but not freedom of religion both in and beyond the public square. Fulfill your stewardship responsibilities as people born into a republic. If you were a Christian trapped in North Korea, you would have various stewardship responsibilities as member of God’s household. Exercising the freedom to vote would not be one of them. But you were blessed to be born in a constitutional republic. That means that thoughtfully participating in the democratic process is a part of your stewardship responsibilities as a servant of God.

I am grieved to discover that only a small percentage of eligible voters even avail themselves of that privilege and responsibility. It is our nation. Its failure or success depends in no small measure on our involvement. Study the candidates and issues, and vote faithfully for those who hold truth, freedom and sound principles dear.

I also encourage qualified people to serve in public office, whether on a homeowners’ association, PTA, school board, or in a political office at the local, state or national level. We need the best to run and be elected to serve for the benefit of the people. If called to such work, it is the Christian’s duty to answer that call.

As followers of God, we believe in the biblical view of history, in a Creator, in a purpose-filled creation, and of moral absolutes grounded in a perfectly good Creator. We believe that for any law to work properly, it must align with the truths and purposes revealed in the book of the Bible and in the book of nature, both authored by a good and loving God. These include the truth that all humans are made in the image of God and so every human is precious, free and responsible for his actions.

And that truth means embracing and championing the sound principles of truth, justice, liberty and personal stewardship. We also embrace the family as a cornerstone for a sustainable society. We resist political efforts to redefine the family until the idea of marriage, older than any government, ceases to have any meaning.

We also embrace the community of faith as salt and light in this world, not as something to be left in the cupboard of society, out of the public light. We embrace civil government as the protector of our freedom but not the provider of our needs.

If championing all this means “getting too political,” then so be it. We are called to get political, not in a ham-fisted and partisan way that falls for the cult of this or that personality, but by championing foundational principles and speaking prophetically to a government that in so many ways has lost its way. So let’s be a light that helps reveal the way.

  • It’s all falling apart. What do we do?

It’s all falling apart. What do we do?

Today we face a daily torrent of troubling news. The world itself seems to be falling apart as in almost every hemisphere chaos is present. The Middle East continues to be a powder keg of violence and death. Terrorism is spreading across the planet with radical Islam’s touch going so far that teenage girls in modern societies are pledging loyalty. Troubling. Political dismay is running wild throughout Europe as well as the United States with division being a standard operating procedure. Mother nature is wreaking havoc in many areas and economic strife continues to inflict sorrow and struggle on countless millions – worldwide.

    I’m not done.

North Korea continues their threats recently detonating a hydrogen bomb. Iran – one of the largest backers of terrorism –  receives billions of dollars due to a “deal” headed by the United States.  China’s economic struggles have the rest of the world’s stock markets on a roller coaster ride of unpredictability. Russia consistently flexes its military muscles totally disregarding the United States and its demands. The United States – once a valued and respected world superpower – is now looked at as anemic and passive. We have a leader in the White House who disregards the Constitution and bypasses Congress to achieve his personal will.

    But wait….there’s more.

The US population continues to stray away from God and the core principles which once guided this country. Our morals are decaying and Islam is now the second largest practicing religion in this country. The “low information voter” continues to support politicians instead of leaders. Citizens are more in touch with what the Kardashians are doing and gossiping about their neighbors than critical issues that will affect generations to come.

    That’s about enough.

So yes – it is all falling apart. I sit here in my living room wondering how it will all turn out and exactly what actions I should take in response.  I mean…..what is an American Patriot to do? As a gun-toting, God-loving, Conservative believer in the Constitution it can be pretty frustrating.

    Here are a few thoughts:

    • Accept that there may not be anything you can do to improve all these situations used as examples. It’s reality. As an individual the ability to inflict major change is limited and just not very realistic.
    • As individuals we are empowered to take responsibility for ourselves. Regardless of government intrusion and all the craziness in the world we can make decisions for ourselves that WILL have an impact.
      • We can reduce our debt to diminish our economic exposure.
      • Secondary sources of income can be sought to better handle job loss.
      • Grow your own food to decrease the dependence on grocery stores.
      • Become part of a survival group. In a group if one member falls on hard luck the others can help lift them up.
      • Save money. In almost any collapse cash money would continue to be used for some time. In a personal SHTF such as job loss cash reserves would extremely beneficial.
    • Vote. Yeah – I know. They are all crooks. It is easy to get down on the entire political process. Believe me I understand. There are some true leaders out there that are trying to do good. Those that are – vote for them.
    • Prepare. If it all does come crashing down put back food, water, firearms, and other essential supplies to weather the storm.
    • Concealed Carry. Take responsibility for your own safety and be armed. Get the training and become proficient.
    • Ignore it all. Yes – I know many people who just choose to exist in ignorant bliss and bury their head in the sand. They pay no attention to politics and watch no news. For them it’s all palm trees and ocean breeze.

No doubt this is not an all-inclusive list of concerning events nor methods of dealing with them. I don’t proclaim to have all the answers. It is not all gloom and doom and it is possible that everything will work out just fine. I can’t see how but it is possible.

The one thing that I find solace in is to surround myself with good people. People that are like-minded and have similar values as myself. That cannot be purchased with money but is extremely valuable.

    Take care all –

    JR
