From the Desk of John Rourke – February 5th, 2021

Interesting times we are living in.

A few thoughts on survival and the world today…….

Firearms & Ammunition Scarcity – While I predict little improvement at all over the coming months this situation with ammunition and firearms is ridiculous. Of course, my feelings on the matter don’t mean shit as pricing continues to go up and the availability seemingly degrades week after week. I stopped by a local gunshot and .223 ammunition was $1.50 per round.

    Insanity.

Well – as insane as it is if we want to practice and enjoy shooting it takes ammunition – or a vivid imagination…LOL. The local gun shop can keep their $1.50 rounds as if you search enough you can pay less. No local sources? Here is an online sources for .223 Remington:

    20rd Box Australian Outback .223 Rem 55gr Sierra Blitzking – $17.99

People looking for private & secure means to communicate – There’s a movement towards private communications. With the targeting of Conservatives and Patriots, many are abandoning mainstream social media such as Facebook. Some are going a bit further and tightening their communication methods and using encrypted messaging tools such as Telegram and email such as Protonmail.

The Future of America –  A couple of years ago I wrote a series of articles revolving around my vision of a “2nd civil war”. I called this coming battle the “American Reformation.” Not really sure why I didn’t call it a “2nd Civil War”. Guess just trying to be different and make a designation that it would be quite unlike what most think of when they think civil war. As we travel through 2021 and look to the future I can’t help but see division continuing to grow. I certainly see outbursts and protests and other forms of civil unrest continuing as segments of the population become more dissatisfied with government and society in general. Groups like Antifa and BLM will not stop until they get what they want and taking advantage of various situations is what they will do.

I’ll be revising and republishing many of the American Reformation articles to reflect current times and conditions.

Hope everyone has a great weekend. Going to go do some shooting on Saturday, do a Sam’s Club run, and grill a couple steaks.

    Take care all.

  • Time for a Laugh!!!

Sent by reader Oren – – – Thank you!!!

In church last Sunday, I heard a sweet elderly lady in a nearby pew saying a prayer.

She was so innocent and sincere that I just had to share it with you.

    “Dear Lord: This last year has been very tough. You have taken my favorite actors, Sean Connery, Kirk Douglas and Diana Rigg;

    my favorite television host, Alex Trebek; Carl Reiner from ‘Your Show of Shows’;

    my favorite singer from the 50’s, Little Richard;

    even Charlie Daniels and Kenny Rogers my two favorite country-western singers;

and from sports you took Gale Sayers and my favorite basketball player Kobe Bryant.”

“I just wanted you to know that my favorite politicians are: Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Chuck Schumer, and Nancy Pelosi.”

    Love it! Thanks Oren!!!

    Need 9mm Ammo?

We all know it’s incredibly difficult to find common calibers such as .223 and 9mm. When we do find it prices are often insane.

If you are looking for 9mm here is a source that is the best price I’ve found on the internet in weeks. 50 rounds of Tula 115-grain 9mm for $29.99. Great prices on shipping as well.

  • Participation in the Political System is Optional

Participation in the Political System is Optional

Over the years I’ve been very critical of those who refused to vote in elections. They had their reasons, however, I felt that whether it was the “lesser of two evils” argument or at a minimum the thought that getting the right person in there would stave off gun control and other attacks against our rights.

Well, I’m done. I am 100% completely done with the entire political system.

    ……and I’m f&^%$’n pissed!!!!!!

The election was stolen. Republican’s have bolted from Trump and siding with Socialists. I’ve had it. What we have witnessed in just the last several years as the 1st amendment has been completely trashed pales in comparison to what is coming. Apple just announced they are considering removing Parler from their platform because they don’t like what is said there. The Mayor of Washington, DC called on Congress to move to statehood for the district ASAP.

America – at the least the America that the Founders intended – is dead. Gone.

What will happen in the future is far from certain. The Reset will certainly begin shortly. Oh, not sure what “The Reset” is? The Reset is a worldwide initiative that has been a rumor for months and was just recently discussed openly at the World Economic Forum:

“To achieve a better outcome, the world must act jointly and swiftly to revamp all aspects of our societies and economies, from education to social contracts and working conditions. Every country, from the United States to China, must participate, and every industry, from oil and gas to tech, must be transformed. In short, we need a “Great Reset” of capitalism.”

“There are many reasons to pursue a Great Reset, but the most urgent is COVID-19. Having already led to hundreds of thousands of deaths, the pandemic represents one of the worst public-health crises in recent history. And, with casualties still mounting in many parts of the world, it is far from over.”

“This will have serious long-term consequences for economic growth, public debt, employment, and human wellbeing. According to the Financial Times, global government debt has already reached its highest level in peacetime. Moreover, unemployment is skyrocketing in many countries: in the US, for example, one in four workers have filed for unemployment since mid-March, with new weekly claims far above historic highs. The International Monetary Fund expects the world economy to shrink by 3% this year – a downgrade of 6.3 percentage points in just four months.”

“All of this will exacerbate the climate and social crises that were already underway. Some countries have already used the COVID-19 crisis as an excuse to weaken environmental protections and enforcement. And frustrations over social ills like rising inequality – US billionaires’ combined wealth has increased during the crisis – are intensifying.”

The Reset – or whatever you want to call it, is just one of many initiatives that the new Congress and Administration will use to create massive change.

While I would consider supporting a third party – I plan to only pay attention to what the government is doing as that is simply a tactically smart thing to do.

How do we prep for 2021 and beyond? Stay tuned…..

  • End of Year Thoughts

    End of Year Thoughts

Generally, it’s this time of year I think about the coming year and set goals and objectives. This year I will be doing the same, however, I’m setting the timeline through the first six months of 2021. With the ongoing volatility and uncertainty, I do not feel comfortable to be able to accurately project what goals I can accomplish for the entirety of 2021. From the perspective of forecasting the future – I’ve pretty much sucked over the past decade. Regardless – I’ll continue to give it my best shot.

I’m at a point now that I’m very focused on the end game – which is to get to a position where I can get in the woods and be living my own version of the American Exit Strategy. To do this as quickly as possible focus has to be on debt reduction and savings. At the same time, I’ll continue to prep, although, I am close to where I want to be(for now). Securing secondary and tertiary streams of income will also be required as relocation to the type of area I consider ideal will limit job opportunities.

Throughout 2020 I’ve been in and out of the gym. Right now – I’m in. Like millions of others dropping 20 pounds would be good and improving my health is essential. Far too often thousands of dollars are spent on preps all the while an expanding waistline and clogged arteries occur. Doesn’t make much sense but yeah – I’ve been guilty.  I bench 245 this morning and felt like I could have gotten it 2-3 times if I had a spotter(I didn’t). This isn’t too far off my PR of 285.

So – what does 2021 hold?

Hell if I know. Alien invasion? Vampires? Economic calamity? Continued attacks against our rights? Stock market crash? All of the above?

    Maybe.

Maybe everything will be just fine and it will be all palm trees and ocean breeze, unicorns and butterflies. Maybe 2021 will come in and out like a barrel full of monkeys trying to hump a doorknob.

    Any predictions?

It’s been extremely busy over the past couple of weeks. Works been crazy and the amount of time spent posting here and on Patreon suffered a bit. I see light at the end of the tunnel so hopefully, things will be back to normal soon.

    ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Visited my brother in Georgia. He lives fairly remote out in the country. Spent a good part of the day sending freedom seeds downrange and enjoyed some Tannerite as well. Even with ammunition prices where they are at we definitely had the smell of gunpowder covering the area.

Tested some of the Global Ordnance SHK 30-rd AR magazines(currently sold out) I picked up for $6.99 – -flawless. Picture of one below.

    ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊

Interesting this outtake from a recent hearing in Pennsylvania. Biden suddenly gets over 600,000 votes while Trump gains 3,200.

    ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊

On Friday we headed out and visited several gun shops. Ammunition was scarce and when available ranged from expensive to expensive.

If ammo ever gets back to the old normal – DO NOT HESITATE and stock up!

    ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊

TP continues to sell out at most stores I visit.

    Crazy.

    ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊

Joe Biden’s plans on gun control include mandatory gun buybacks, bans on high capacity magazines, limitations on the number of firearms that can be purchased monthly,  elimination of private gun sales, etc. Yeah – guns and ammo are expensive right now. If you are not in the guns and ammo position you want to be in – get there.

From the Desk of John Rourke – September 5th, 2020

I know from talking to many like-minded folks, especially those from northern states, it is this time of year they start experiencing “the feeling”. This feeling is related to preparing for the upcoming winter weather that can be so problematic in some areas. While I currently live in South Carolina, I grew up in New England and can remember many frigid, snow-filled days where the power was out for hours.  Even today I still get that feeling around this time – every year.

    ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊

Professional sports continue to disappoint with Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints being the latest asshat to “protest”. He and several other teammates placed the name of the accused sexual assaulter from Kenosha who was shot and injured by police after resisting arrest. The details of that case can be found here, however, it remains a trend throughout professional sports to side with the terrorist group BLM and appear “woke”.

MLB, NBA, and the NFL can go suck it. I’m out!!

    ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊

While many firearms are sold out across the nation and rising in price, and we all know about the ammunition scarcity – – magazines are beginning to tick up in price. I’ve seen several major online gun accessory retailers with prices slightly higher than normal. Other components such as AR uppers have jumped up in price.

How many of us if we could back in time would have stocked up more? If, and that is a BIG if, things return back to normal in the firearms and ammunition market stack it high and stack it deep!

    ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊

Years ago I had a job where I had to use a soldering iron frequently. Via some juvenile antics by fellow employees burns were common. Back then I discovered Water-Jel. This lidocaine-based pain reliever worked great and I still keep it in the kitchen and in the medical supplies.

water jel, burn jel, first aid, supplies, survival, preparedness, prepper, bugging out,

    I highly recommend it!

Hope this finds everyone doing well, and safe.

For those that are new here, “From the Desk of John Rourke” are posts I publish here and there covering random topics. Topics covered range from politics to shooting, from preparedness to life philosophy.

    Let’s get started:

    ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊

We as a nation have fallen so far…..we quite often need to obtain permission to carry on the very freedoms and rights that so many have sacrificed to protect.

To travel from one place to another via the most common transportation method – the automobile – you must obtain a government license, pay government property and sales taxes on the vehicle itself, pay taxes in the fuel purchased to run the vehicle, and often pay tolls to travel on the roads that other taxes fund.

Want to open a business? Go to city hall and purchase permits, pay fee’s, etc.

To hunt the land and fish the water’s licenses are required. To travel across the woods in 4-wheelers, ATV’s, and snowmobiles – permits and registrations are purchased from the government.

In most areas to purchase food, taxes must be paid. The restaurant you eat had to buy a multitude of licenses and permits and get inspections. All government-related.

It seems blatantly obvious to me that the government took the words, “provide for the common Defense and general Welfare” written in the Constitution a bit too far.

    ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊

I’m a bit sensitive about treating this website and my other online entities as a business. I really shouldn’t. I have some ads on the side of the page, some affiliate links where readers can click on and if they purchase something I earn a cup of coffee – maybe. The reality is I spend a lot of time writing, conversing, creating, designing, researching, developing, etc. There is value to the information I provide – whether it be entertainment or educational.

I recently announced that I was starting a Patreon page. I’ve had a few people show interest and a few even signed up prior to my official launch. A couple have told me they have no interest. I’m good either way. I’m taking Patreon very seriously and I’m pretty excited!! This is a new way to interact and develop a positive community with like-minded people. I’ve developed my Patreon page and already started posting content. Even though the official launch date is September 1st, however, I’ve already started.

Nothing will change here, however, things are going to be very active and interesting over at the 1776PatriotUSA Patreon Page. I’m really looking forward to sharing my efforts and progress with my American Exit Strategy. Come join the fun! If it’s not your cup of tea you can cancel anytime.

    $1.00 per month.

    ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊

BTW……not everything with 2020 has been bad.

    Here is my grandson…….

    He’s awesome!!

    ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊

NOTE: I will be traveling over the next couple of weeks starting tomorrow. The weekly “Status Reports” are likely going to be absent, however, most other normal content will be created. Just keep in mind if there are some delays you’ll know why.

    ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊

The Auguson Farms 30-Day Freeze Dried Food Bucket is back in stock for around $118. Not a bad price for a 30 day supply for one person.

    ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊

Have a good rest of your week everyone!!

From the Desk of John Rourke 06/15/20

First off, I hope everyone is staying safe and well. These are incredible times we are experiencing and the future is incredibly uncertain. It is very easy to get swept up in all the negativity while watching the news, feel fear – and wallow in all causing severe anxiety. While facing problems and issues head-on is always a good idea, stop and take a look around. There are lots of beautiful and wonderful things in this world to enjoy while at the same time paying attention and preparing for the future.

    ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊

Is anyone stepping up their preps based on…well, everything that has been happening in 2020? I can’t fathom this not being a HUGE wakeup call for those on the fence about preparedness and for those of us that are preparedness like-minded, stepping it up should be occurring.

    ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊

There are a lot of reasons to not like Facebook. The reality is there is not another social media platform that has the same reach. Well, there will NEVER be another platform – especially one that celebrates freedom of speech – if we do not make the move and open an account when one comes around.
MeWe is such a platform. It is a high quality, non-censoring, and privacy-loving platform. They don’t sell your information nor do they track or allow other companies to track everything you do like Facebook does.
    Follow me over there:
    Come on – do it!!
I’ll be starting a 1776PatrioUSA.com Survival & Preparedness Group there as well.
MeWe, logo, preparedness, freedom, Patriot, SHTF, prepper
    ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊
Consider if the grid went down tomorrow morning at 9:00am. How much do you know? How much do you wish you had done? Information is incredibly important. I’ve written at length about digital preparedness libraries and for myself – I’m stepping up my game. I recently picked up a 4TB hard drive and I’m backing up my backups. I’m searching for more books and magazines and guides to download. I’ve started downloading YouTube videos that could be useful later. Grid down doesn’t mean digital free. Solar is cheaper than ever and with modern technology accessing this information is simple and easy.

From the Desk of John Rourke – May 11th, 2020

A few upcoming changes with the website: The daily free survival & preparedness Kindle ebook posts will change next week to Monday – Thursday and will post at around 8:00pm each evening. We will see how this works out as frequently prices change on Kindle ebooks after midnight. If people can’t grab them the evening the posts come out it may be not worth doing. My days are going to be occupied, thus, it will be difficult to post each morning like I have been doing.

Speaking of YouTube one of my latest videos is related to H.R. 6666. This bill was recently introduced into the House of Representatives and has quite a fuss and I can understand why. First off – the bill is an additional 1 trillion dollars(if it passes) onto the National Debt. Second – it funds government-sponsored testing for COVID-19 at your home. This is significant. It also references the need to quarantine people which opens the question as to how they will be quarantined. Many questions about whether government entities will take the power and authority to the extreme and remove children from homes where positive COVID-19 tests are. While a lot of the controversy I believe is unfounded I understand the concern. Questioning the government is always a good thing.

  • UPDATE: From the Desk of John Rourke

UPDATE: From the Desk of John Rourke

Since my post on March 22nd, I’ve had numerous people reach out asking how things are going. First off, I am still unemployed, however, I have gone on several interviews and had many phone screenings as well. With the economic outlook being so poor I have been pleasantly surprised with the amount of activity. I have been in serious discussion with a company in South Carolina near the coast with 7 phone interviews so far. I am traveling for an onsite interview Monday. I have one local company wanting me to go to work for them. We have not discussed wages and benefits yet, but, the position is definitely a step back in my career. Beggars can’t be choosey, right? I will certainly take the job depending on what happens with my South Carolina trip.

The donations and orders I received from my March 22nd posting were not only appreciated but VERY helpful. I continue to use my time listing things on eBay to make some money and of course filling out job applications online. I still have many Sawyer Mini Water Filter Bucket Kits as well as the AR Single Point Sling Adapters ready to go. To generate some income I’ve put together some informational products including a Paladin Press 450+ eBook Library on a single USB drive. Tons of information there. I also am almost ready to roll out an absolutely gargantuan survival & preparedness library over 100 gigabytes in size. Thousands of books, videos, guides, manuals, movies and more on that one. Stay tuned!

I’ve been riding my mountain bike for exercise as well as doing some outside workouts with kettlebells and jump ropes. Obviously my gym is closed. While working on a variety of projects and tasks I’ve been watching a ton of YouTube.

    More updates soon.

    Take care and stay safe!

  • The Economic Threat from COVID-19 Virus

The Economic Threat from COVID-19 Virus

coronavirus, COVID-19, economic collapse, Wall Street, SHTF

COVID-19 coronavirus continues to threaten the lives of millions of people around the world. Cases in the United States are soaring.  Schools of all kinds including universities are suspending classes and closing. The NBA has ended its season and there will be no March Madness. Stock markets are more volatile than Joe Biden’s brain cells. Hand sanitizer and Lysol are nowhere to be found and toilet paper(for whatever reason) is hotter than Jennifer Lopez on a Miami beach.

    Now what?

Utilizing facts, logic, and commonsense is always a good approach to most situations. While the Coronavirus represents a serious health concern for millions of Americans, the mainstream media is promoting panic with reporting that contains suspect and counter-productive information. Why would this be happening? More on that shortly.

    Update as of March 15th:

    • There are over 2800 confirmed cases in the US with 57 deaths.
    • There are countless thousands of non-confirmed cases that have already occurred.
    • There will be countless thousands that will be confirmed over the coming weeks.
    • The vast majority of those infected respond to treatment and recover completely – over 98%.
    • Those dying after infection are generally older and have a preexisting secondary health issue.
    • There is currently a run on bottled water, canned goods, bread, toilet paper, medical supplies, and numerous other items across the country.
    • N95 and similar respirator masks are sold out and back-ordered for weeks.
    • The cruise and airline industries are getting hammered financially as people stop utilizing their services.
    • Schools and universities across the country are closing.
    • The stock market has dropped 21% off it’s high of over 29,000 reached back in February.
    • Confirmation test kits for COVID-19 are slow to reach doctors’ offices and hospitals.
    • Hospitals across the country are getting ready for an onslaught of Coronavirus cases and are concerned they will not have enough resources.
    • President Trump declares a National Emergency. In doing so he frees billions of dollars to be used to fight the outbreak. He also signed executive actions to provide benefits such as extensive Coronavirus testing, student loan relief, and financial aid for sick workers.
    • President Trump has banned all travel to and from Europe including the UK to reduce the chance of spread.
    • President Trump has indicated that he is considering a domestic travel ban within the United States.
    • Dr. Anthony Fauci, NIAID Director, stated on CNN the morning of March 15th that it’s possible that hundreds of thousands of Americans may die due to COVID-19. He stated that this was avoidable if we continue to do the right things. He also inferred that “national lockdown” may be required to curtail the spread of the virus.
    • The news media and many Liberal politicians continue to be irresponsible in their reporting. Their fear-mongering spin is causing widespread panic as citizens wonder about the spread, treatment, risk, and cure.
    • Numerous conspiratorial theories and false information are spreading across social media platforms causing tremendous misinformation.

The true facts related to COVID-19 show that the vast majority of Americans are not at any significant risk beyond that of the normal Influenza flu. There are more significant risks for certain segments of the population as already noted. With this understanding, the response throughout the United States of closing schools, ending sports seasons, canceling widely attended events, limiting travel, and creating economic turmoil is simply not justified nor warranted.

    [slideshow_deploy id=’11252′]

    Why is this happening?

Theories are plentiful. Beyond the Chinese governmental genetically modified bat-soup goobly-goop, many believe that the true epidemic at hand is the mainstream media and Progressive Elite. The overreaction and misinformation campaign led the liberal media aims to bring down President Trump by causing economic turmoil and convincing the American people that a new savior is needed. If the Left can reverse the economic boom that the Trump administration’s policies have provided, the next Democratic candidate has a chance to win in November. Political conspiracy? Has the Left showed the will go to any extent to get Trump out of office?

This is but one theory and one that I lean towards. Regardless of the reason, we have to deal with the fact it’s happening. Let me say that one more time:

What will be the repercussions of COVID-19?

The virus itself will make thousands – maybe millions of people sick. The vast majority will recover completely. The virus itself will take the lives of many. How many? “Too many” is the answer. It is pointless to predict numbers at this point as there are far too many variables at hand to accurately calculate.

Beyond the health issues directly related to COVID-19, the economic impact is likely to cost over $2 trillion in lost revenue worldwide. I believe this is well understated and the cost to the United States alone will approach $1 trillion or some obscene similar amount.

In these early stages of this pandemic, the economy of the United States has already been greatly effected. Beyond the declining stock market, tens of thousands of businesses across the country in a wide array of industries are seeing a dramatic drop in business. Hundreds of thousands of students across the country are being forced to stay home from school and therefore parents are having to make a decision between a paycheck or caring for their children. As the populace restricts their day to day activities in an effort to reduce their possible exposure to COVID-19, small shops and stores, in particular, are struggling to stay afloat.

The domino effect of reduced commerce is costing billions of dollars within the domestic economy. This is just getting underway and will continue as people lose jobs, incomes drop, industries are decimated, and the virus spreads into every community and the statistics pile up. Where will it end and how far will it go? Too early to tell.

The media will continue to dedicate an unjustified amount of time to this virus, all the while the regular Influenza flu kills more than 20,000 – with no outrage, panics, and no closures. The media will continue to dedicate an unjustified amount of time to this virus, all the while more than 35,000 people will die in automobile accidents – – with no outrage, panics, and no closures. The media will continue to dedicate an unjustified amount of time to this virus, all the while more than 480,000 people will die from disease directly related to cigarette smoking – with no outrage, panics, and no closures.

The media and Progressive Elite will continue to drive their agenda using any and all means available to them.

    CDC, flu, statistics, SHTF, prepper

Influenza Flu Statistics – NOT Covid-19

    What to do now?

The first thing we need to do is realize this virus is NOT ebola or something even close. The vast majority from a health perspective will be just fine. There is no reason to panic. From an economic perspective, there is nothing we can do to control the stock market nor the mainstream media.

The following recommendations are based on the current situation as of March 15th, 2020. Things can change quickly.

    survival, checklist, SHTF, COVID-19, coronavirus

Steps to prepare for possible severe economic times ahead and limitations on access to medical care:

    • Reduce spending and save CASH.
    • If you do not have to go out in public – DON’T.
    • If having to go out in public – wear a mask and gloves. While this is an action that may seem extreme it’s a decision that each individual has to make for themselves. Utilize hand sanitizer and disinfectant to reduce the risk of transporting unwanted “bugs”.
    • Review your Preparedness System and look for holes that need to be filled. If you are spending more time inside this is a perfect opportunity to inventory all supplies which will allow a better view for determining what’s needed and what’s not.
    • Continue to stock up on food. Target a minimum 3 months supply for each and every person you expect to have under you’re roof.
    • Secure water filtration and put back at least 14 gallons for each person under your roof.
    • Refill each vehicle whenever fuel drops to 1/2 tank.
    • Keep all medications filled and get refills at the 25-day mark if possible.
    • Put back at least 10 gallons of fuel for each vehicle. Assuming 20mpg, that is 200 miles of range per vehicle.
    • Make sure you have all the items needed to participate in a 2-week quarantine.
    • Purchase online if possible to reduce exposure to going out in public. Amazon continues to be an excellent source, however, watch for price gouging.  Following an Amazon link from this website helps support what we are doing here with no additional cost to you. Thank you!!

Folks, the steps above are a few suggestions and certainly do not represent an all-inclusive list of everything that possibly could be done. This event is just getting underway. Updates will be posted as things develop.

Please comment below and share what you are experiencing and what your thoughts are on what is going on.

    Take care.

  • Wuhan Coronavirus Update

    Wuhan Coronavirus Update

The streets in Wuhan, China remain almost completely absent of both human and vehicle traffic. Supplies are drying up and over 60 million people remain quarantined. The numbers coming out of China are daunting at best and likely understated. Being a communist country China is well known for manipulating the truth. Evidence suggests the virus is much worse than being publicized.

Currently, there are 14,652 cases worldwide(23 countries) and 305 deaths. Many of the worlds leading infectious disease experts suggest that Wuhan Coronavirus will likely become a pandemic. Time will tell. Reports are this virus is much more contagious than the flu virus, however, the lethality is still to be determined.

With 8 total cases so far in the United States and only one who has not visited China there is a reason for concern, but not worry. At least not yet. The next few weeks will really shed some light on the significance of this virus.

How many cases will develop in the US? Deaths?

Will infected patients be found in your city or town? If so, how did they contract the virus?

Keep prepping my friends. If the Wuhan coronavirus turns into a serious problem in the US taking a few steps now may make all the difference.

  • Update: Jake

    Update: Jake

A couple of weeks ago I put out a prayer request for my dog – Jake.  Jake had gotten very sick, not eating and having severe diarrhea. Typical actions for dietary issues for a large dog like Jake would be chicken breast and plain rice. It didn’t work.

A couple of visits the vet found nothing in blood work. Special food was provided but Jake continued to deteriorate. Jake was down 20 pounds from his high of 75 and getting weak. Another visit to the vets and they recommended taking him to a specialist.

The specialist kept him for several days running numerous tests. In the end, they found the problem. He has a disease that will not allow his body to ingest fats. The fats clog up his intestines which stop absorbing nutrients.

$2500, several prescriptions – and special low-fat food and he is recovering.

I really appreciate the prayers and positive response.

    Thanks

  • Grid Down Communications: Satellite Text Communications

Grid Down Communications: Satellite Text Communications

EMP – electromagnetic pulse. Opinions vary as to how extensive damage to our nation’s infrastructure would be should this unfortunate event occur. The overall consensus is somewhere between serious and catastrophic. One area when considering the effects of EMP is communication. Most agree that cell phones, the Internet, and even landlines will be rendered inoperable. While short-distance communication can be covered with protected standard walkie-talkies, CB radio, and ham radio – reliable long-distance communication is very difficult. When I say reliable – I am referring the ability to reach family and loved ones 1,200 miles away days after and be able to share information.

    Imagine this scenario:

You have a daughter several states away at college. You have discussed preparedness with her. You have pre-staged some supplies and even have a close friend nearby that she is to go to should something occur.

On Tuesday while at work the power goes out. Probably just some utility work or a branch fell, right? You pull out your cell phone to use the flashlight and find it inoperable. “Could this be…..err……” You get up and go to the window and look outside and see cars on the busy street down below not moving. People have their hoods up and you see a lot of shrugs and head shaking. “EMP”

Your mind goes straight to Kelly.

Where is she? How will she get to Sheila’s and Jerry’s? Is she ok? How can you contact her?

One solution is satellite communication. While sat phones are available they are very costly and for most people not realistic. Another form of satellite communication is a text-based device. There are numerous models on the market that allow texts to be sent from one device to another from virtually anywhere in the world. While like satellite phones a subscription plan is required it is much less expensive.

In doing research on this topic I could find no absolute proof on how well satellite communication can withstand an EMP. Satellites are well guarded against solar flares. Ground-based operations have emergency power systems that may or may not work after an EMP. Like many things regarding EMP we won’t know for sure until it happens. In my mind – and planning – the best case for me is an additional two weeks of communication after an EMP event.

Two weeks. Think about that. How valuable would two weeks be? Extremely. Even a couple of days which to communicate with someone to plan a rendezvous or to know they are safe.

The two text-based satellite communication devices I’ve identified as the absolute best option are both made by Garmin:

sat comms, satellite, communication, EMP, SHTF, prepper

    Garmin inReach Mini

    Garmin inReach Explorer+

One of the main reasons I have targeted these two is their use of the Iridium Satellite network. The Iridium network offers the highest level of connectivity wherever you are in the world. You can follow either of the links above to check out prices and features for each one.

I hope within the next month or so to provide a hands-on review of one or both of them.

Well, another option could be two tin cans and A LOT of string.

  • Apocalyptic Chicken Alfredo Lasagna

    Apocalyptic Chicken Alfredo Lasagna

When planning meals and items that I would store in a food pantry in a SHTF situation I consider all tastebuds. This recipe made me think of the teenage food palate because just about every teenager I know loves Alfredo. I was a bit skeptical when I came up with this recipe at first because it was so simple, but that is what we are going for after all! This simple and easy to prepare meal gives the prepper another option other than beans and rice and although the no boil noodles are not able to be stored as long as beans and rice it will give you some options in the first year or so while you continue to plan for future meals. I think this Chicken Alfredo Lasagna will provide a tasteful comfort food feel when sitting around the kitchen table together.

Let me know what you think!

    What you will need:

    8×8 inch pan

    16oz jar of Alfredo Sauce

    Oven Ready Lasagna Noodles

    5oz can of White Chicken

    6 Tablespoons Parmesan Cheese

    Garlic Salt to taste

    1. Preheat the grill to 375ºF

    2. Coat the bottom of the pan with a thin layer of Alfredo sauce

    3. Place 2 lasagna noodles over the sauce lined pan

    4. Coat the lasagna noodles with a layer of Alfredo sauce, ½ the can of chicken, 2 tablespoons of parmesan cheese and garlic salt. Place 2 noodles over the top.

    5. Repeat step 4

    6. Coat the top layer with Alfredo sauce and sprinkle with 2 tablespoons of parmesan cheese and sprinkle with garlic salt to taste.

    7. Cover with tin foil

    8. Place on top rack of preheated grill

    9. Cook for approximately 30 minutes. You can tell if it is done when you stick a fork in it and the noodles are soft.

    10. ENJOY!

  • Is it looting – or surviving?

Is it looting – or surviving?

Watching the news a couple of weeks ago and they were reporting on Hurricane Dorian and the massive destruction in the Bahamas. Looting was a major topic discussed and they even had an interview with one of those “looters”. The news reporter asked the woman how she felt taking items that didn’t belong to her and what did she take during her looting. She explained that she did not feel comfortable taking things, but, felt she had no choice. She went on to say that she went to grocery stores and took food, water, and diapers. She said there are a lot of people that have no food, no water, and there are young children with no diapers.

Here’s my question: Is this looting – or surviving?

When I heard the reporter say that he had interviewed one of the admitted looters I expected they had taken TV’s, computers, shoes, etc. After the interview, I thought to myself – “That’s not looting. That’s surviving!”

    Am I wrong?

From my perspective, there was a literal SHTF situation going on and what she did was called surviving.

Note: Every so often I’ll throw out some random thoughts on a variety of topics. This comes “From the Desk” of John Rourke.

Last week was a long stressful one at work. Trying to relax this past weekend and will be traveling this upcoming one. I’ve purposely NOT watched the news, however, can’t help but hear all the talk on gun control.

The Left spouting antigun dribble is nothing new especially after some psychopath goes on a killing spree. With Democrat candidates for President calling for gun bans and confiscation this would have been a perfect time for politicians on the Right to promote the Constitution, gun rights, and destroy Liberal arguments with facts and logic. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. President Trump openly backed Red Flag laws and universal background checks.

    Pathetic.

Even newcomer and Conservative favorite Dan Crenshaw has backed Red Flag laws.

If Trump backs any successful gun control legislation or laws via Executive Action his bid for 2020 will be an effort in futility.

Food. You hear that word and it likely conjures up visions of frustration from those trying to lose weight or images or a favorite meal(steak on the grill with squash and corn on the cob. Food storage is simply not sexy. If it was there would be magazine covers galore filled with images of canned freeze dried food and hard red winter wheat. Yeah – rice would be there too.

So – preppers frequently go out there and stock up on all the guns and ammo they can afford without giving food its due diligence.

If you have two AR’s, tons of magazines and a few thousand rounds of ammo – and a months worth of food:  you’re guilty.

The national debt continues its aggressive path upwards as we approach 23 trillion dollars. The government continues to spend money it doesn’t have. We are past the point of no return and the debt clock will NEVER tick backward.  It is only a matter of time that the massive debt and printing of money creates heightened inflation and devaluing of currency.

Like with several other scenarios looming over us – the time to prepare is NOW.

  • Bump Fire Stocks Set To Be Banned

Bump Fire Stocks Set To Be Banned

With the recent 1 year anniversary of the Las Vegas shooting in which a bump fire stock was used, the apparent ban of the firearm accessory is in the news once again. President Trump continues to insist that a ban is coming within the next several weeks.

While I am not a fan of the bump fire stock – they should not be banned. The banning is merely another ploy to please those gun control advocates who fail to understand the 2nd Amendment – as well as hardly have any firearm knowledge whatsoever. There are many in the firearm community who are stating that if this goes through Trump will lose many valuable votes in 2020. I especially would be displeased with his actions if he fails to secure something for the concession(build a wall!!!).

Currently, the proposed ruling on the bump fire ban will literally demand that all bump fire stocks and similar devices be turned in – or destroyed. There is no grandfathering in. If you continue to possess it after the specified date you will be in violation and I would assume be guilty of committing a felony.

Make me want to go out and buy one right now!

It’s an interesting phycological phenomenon that as soon as the government – or anyone else for that matter – says “You can’t have one of those XXXXXXX“, I want one. Maybe it’s just me.

Many in the gun community are also suggesting that the proposed ban will also include binary and similar triggers that dramatically increase the rate of fire in many semi-auto’s.

One of the most effective means of increasing the rate of fire to near fully automatic is the Fostech ECHO trigger. It provides two shots – one with the pull, and one with the release – with each trigger pull.

See the video below for demonstration and information:

Opticsplant.com currently has the Echo trigger on sale for $414. Not sure how long the sale will last.

Another option is the Franklin Armory 5550 BFSIII Binary Trigger. I have personal experience with the Franklin and it works great!

What we know is ANY gun control that is allowed to move forward is just one step closer to what the advocates want – complete disarmament.

With an uncertain future with the presidency after 2020 as well as a potential Democratic Congress – the 2nd Amendment is at serious risk.

  • Test your bug out bag….by going backpacking

Test your bug out bag….by going backpacking

Having a bug out bag in the trunk of a car is a good thing as you never know when something might happen.

So – going to take the challenge go out for a two night, three-day hike and backpacking trip? If so – what’s in YOUR bag?

    Here is a suggested list:

    Backpack:

Teton Sports Scout 3400 Backpack – medium-sized backpack as an example

    Food:

    Mountain House pouches

snacks – trail mix, Payday bar, cheese/peanut butter crackers

    Water:

    Nalgene Wide Mouth Water Bottle

    Crystal Light flavor powder

    Sawyer Mini Water Filter Kit

    Cooking:

Camp Cook Set – the Stanley kit is a great deal

Mini Camp Stove with Fuel – check this one out. I have two and work great.

    Eating utensils

    Fire:

    Bic lighter

    cotton balls soaked in Vaseline

    Light/Illumination:

flashlight – any small and powerful flashlight/300 lumens or more

headlamp -name brand headlamp of 250 lumens or more

    Sanitation:

compressed towels – these things are awesome! Roughly 10″ x 10″ small towels that are lightweight, biodegradable and compressed down to a tiny tablet. Many uses including leaving the TP at home.

    Toothbrush/Toothpaste

    Wet wipes/Hand sanitizer

    Clothing:

Hat – grab a hat to your liking(preferably Patriots or the Red Sox)

    Underwear(3 pairs)

    Socks(3 pairs)

    Shirts/pants/shorts – 3 pairs

    Rain gear

    Sleeping/Shelter:

Grand Trunk hammock – budget-friendly and high quality. Don’t forget suspension straps.

Hammock Rain Fly – The Bear Butt model is a good one.

    Communication:

Cell phone – if no signal document trip with pictures and video

    Navigation:

GPS Navigator – heading out in the woods can be fun but make sure you can get back. Grab a compass as well.

    First Aid

Pack a small Zip Loc with Benedryl, anti-diarrheal, ibuprofen, a few band-aids, and a compression bandage.

    Other:

    sunblock

    insect repellent

    map

    knife

    rope

Heading out on an overnight backpacking trip is a great way to test out a bug out bag.

So – what else should be considered?
