Things have been crazy busy as regular life takes up so much time – work, family, regular daily tasks such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc. Add to that establishing a garden and getting the cabin and homestead the way we want it. Yup – it’s been busy.

This past weekend we’ve been finishing up the garden. It’s been a ton of work preparing our selected garden area prepped and getting seeds and transplants in the ground. Time just didn’t allow us to start seeds indoors due to moving and unpacking. Cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes, potatoes, lettuce, beans, garlic, crookneck squash, zucchini, potatoes, and onions have been planted. An herb garden is planned but hasn’t been planted yet. Soon.
Garlic. Over the past couple years found a new appreciation for garlic on my cooking.

Maine Prepper Girl has brought up that we need to stock up on some canning supplies. She recognizes the advantages and importance of home canning. While this first year my gardening expectations are fairly low as I learn a new climate, new soil, and a completely different growing season, we can supplement our produce production from local sources. MPG has never canned before so we will certainly learn together. I can’t wait!!!
Some of my favorite canning projects include dill pickles, homemade salsa, and homemade spaghetti sauce. Oh – homemade spaghetti sauce!!!!!!! YUM!!! 🍝

This probably goes without saying but I’m saying it anyways – the reported inflation numbers coming out fro. government is BS. A trip to the local grocery store and buying a pound of hamburg will tell you prioces are AT LEAST 50%. ore than just a few years ago. Want some A1 Steaksauce? Crazy prices. Add to this the shrinking packaging sizes while raising prices as the same time shows why so many Americans are struggling to make ends meet.
Given this….many foods remain fairly cheap and if you haven’t STOCK UP ON FOOD NOW! If you do not have buckets of rice packed away – what are you waiting on?

Today was fairly productive….and just a bit crazy. The variety of thoughts and experiences I’ve had today has been a bit out of the ordinary. Overall – it was good.
Normal day as far as getting up, a couple of fried eggs and some toast. 20-minute drive to work catching up on some messages via Telegram and a couple of short videos on Youtube from people I regularly follow. In this short timeframe, I heard about insane laws passed in Canada as well as the movement of American air assets that appear to be looking for Russian subs off the coast of the United States.
Work went as normal. Met with a local transportation company about moving 12 storage containers. While out walking around the wind picked up and suddenly…..snow. It started to snow. A few days ago it was around 70 and today it snowed. Crazy. Hey – welcome to Maine.
After work, I hurried home as I had arranged for a retired ex-lobsterman to meet me at the cabin. I had a small boat for sale. Guy loved it and paid me $500. Money will get put away – future projects. When we bought the house there was a boat and a homemade trailer in the garage. So – the boat has been sold and we decided to keep the trailer. It could come in handy.
I worked in the garden a bit. I’ve held off planting live plants as the forecast is saying there is a good chance of a frost tonight. Well, this weekend is supposed to be in the 70s and I have every intention of finally finishing all the planting. I’ll be sharing some pictures and videos soon, but, for now, I have several raised beds, in-ground rows, and mounds – and also some actual raised beds sitting about 3 feet off the ground. Made from scrap wood.
Came in and performed a cognitive assessment for a company I have applied to. Looking for a better job. Better job? Better pay + better hours + better benefits = better job. We’ll see.
Next – mounted a license plate to Maine Prepper Girls’ Jeep. In Maine, you have to have a plate on the front and the back. I drilled holes and mounted the plate on the front. She’s now rock’n the two plates on her 4-door Wrangler. Sweet!!!
So many projects. They will get done….eventually.
Oh – now I’m sharing this with you….LOL.

I just finished watching the “Christmas” movie Violent Night and absolutely loved it. Now – if you DON’T enjoy senseless violence, needless profanity, and blood splatter then make sure you DO NOT watch this movie. I found it to be highly entertaining.
I saw the creative team who developed the movie borrowed ideas from Die Hard, Home Alone, and First Blood. Parts were absolutely hilarious.
I liked it, but, then again I am a bit strange.

Well, it’s been a few beers since my last update and a whole lot has gone on in the last several weeks. While it has been far too long since I’ve posted – I’ll be getting back to my regular schedule very soon.
Let’s get to it…..
As of February 9th, I am permanently in the state of Maine. Maine Prepper Girl had gone ahead of me in early December working on finding us a place to live. This has not been an easy task as many people with homes for sale in Central Maine winterize in the winter and then reopen in the Spring. In other words, the selection is limited. After spending several weeks searching and looking at various properties she found the right one. During this entire process I was in Kentucky and getting lots of links, descriptions, and pictures of homes. We finally settled on a small cabin on 5 acres. This A-frame home has a large loft as well as a separate garage and another storage shed. The town it is located in has a population of 1050 people which is just what we were looking for = low population density.
We move into the cabin this coming Wednesday.
We are very much looking forward to making the cabin our forever home. For the past 3 years, I’ve been living full-time in a camper and I’m so ready to get back to gardening, solar projects, building raised beds, organizing our preparedness supplies, and getting back into some regular routines. For those who may not know – I’ve been in South Carolins, Georgia, back to South Carolina, then to Kentucky over the last few years. I’m ready to stay in one place.
As far as survival & preparedness – my belief in the need to take intentional and logical steps to prepare for what awaits us around the corner has not waivered the least bit. If anything the last 3 years have generated an increased desire to prepare and that is exactly what will happen. Additional food storage will be a major project in addition to setting up garden plots. Pressure and water bath canning will preserve crops and we are looking into buying a freeze drier.
The immediate future will be filled with moving into the new place, getting organized, and working on the cabin as there are some things that need attention with it. I’ll be posting here, on Youtube(switching to Rumble soon), as well as in other places very soon.

Haven’t been posting much lately as I’ve been super busy. At the time of this writing, I’ve been down with a “bug” and feeling like bear excrement. COVID test was negative and although I was running a fever it dropped. I just feel crappy – no energy, a little bit of a cough developing, and tired. It’ll pass.
Praying for the folks in Florida. It appears this storm is one of those the entire country will remember. Mother Nature certainly can show her fury and just how puny we mere mortals are.
I’ll get back to posting on a regular basis soon.

So my youngest decided to get married…….at 19. Yup. I talked to him and provided my infinite wisdom but love…..or hormones….made him decide to go through with the ceremony. His bride is a very smart and nice girl. At least that is a positive. So – they decided to get married up at Lake Lure at Chimney Rock, NC. The area was absolutely gorgeous. What was particularly interesting is my ex had a chance to spend some time with Maine Prepper Girl. No cat fight…..things went well.

Back in 2012 when The Grey came out I thought it was one of the best survival movies I’d ever seen. I still love it. When I did a write-up on it I was surprised at the sheer negativity thrown my way because people hated the movie. Ten years later I still don’t care. The Grey is a fantastic story of survival.
Brief Summary: Following a grueling five-week shift at an Alaskan oil refinery, workers led by sharpshooter John Ottway (Liam Neeson) are flying home for a much-needed vacation. A brutal storm causes their plane to crash in the frozen wilderness, and only eight men (Frank Grillo, Dermot Mulroney), including Ottway, survive. As they trek southward toward civilization and safety, Ottway and his companions must battle mortal injuries, the icy elements, and a pack of hungry wolves.
Beyond the story of man against beast all the while trying to survive frigid conditions, there lies a very touching story. Throughout the movie, Ottway reflects back to his wife who is no longer with him. He contemplates suicide. He contemplates life without the love of his life.
Go pop the popcorn. Have a cold refreshing beverage. Sit back and enjoy the movie!

I’ve mentioned several times that Dog Soldiers is one of my favorite movies. If you’re not familiar here is a quick plot summary:
“The movie follows a small squad of British soldiers during a routine night-time training mission in the Scottish Highlands. While on their way to rendezvous with a special ops unit, the group instead find a bloody massacre with a sole survivor. The savage attackers of the special ops team return, and the men are rescued by a zoologist who identifies what hunts them as werewolves. Without transport or communications, the group is forced to retreat to a farmhouse to wait for the full moon to disappear at dawn.”
Over the years many fans of the film wished for a sequel after the planned next film in 2004 never came into production. The name for the sequel was to be Dog Soldiers: Fresh Meat. Several times over the years rumors of the movie would spur interest.
There are so many directions this story could go. Would the original surviving cast members be featured? Would the sequel focus on the pack and who they are and came to be? Would the sequel feature the transformative canines traveling to America in search of a new hunt and making the major mistake of disturbing John Rourke while he’s trying to relax while camping?
That would be interesting.
Again – rumors and even comments from the original Director suggests the story was initially intended to be a trilogy. With the following DOg Soldiers has I would not be surprised if it is brought back and the story continues.

I’ve talked to a lot of survivalists and preppers over the years. Far too often people complicate survival and get lost in the details. They try to contemplate and consider every possible scenario. That my friends is simply impossible. With everything going on in people’s lives simplicity – although welcome – sometimes escapes people’s thoughts and perspectives. Sometimes we just want to be provided a guide or guidelines to follow and let our brains focus on other things.
Let’s look at an example: My beautiful MainePrepperGirl(who is way outside my league) hires a personal trainer to provide exercise routines and diet recommendations. She wants simplicity in a provided guide to follow leading to success. Simple.
Food, defense, communication, medical, light, alternative power, etc. all make a preparedness system. Much like going camping but for a longer period of time, it really isn’t that complicated. Consider interruptions of services, an inability to purchase those daily items that typically you can pick up on the way home after work, and a cease to water and electricity flowing into your home. What can you do to mitigate such a condition? Make a list and do it.
Simple.
May not be easy or cheap but is it really that complex? Not really.
Now – get on that list.

The job has not turned out to be what it was advertised. To put it bluntly, it sucks. Well – it is what it is. I’m here now and all I can do is conduct a bit of OODA-loopage.

While I’m not an “environmentalist” nor do I believe we have only 12 years before humankind will become extinct due to climate change, the weather has been crazy over the past few years. History shows the earth is capable of dramatic shifts in weather providing sometimes deadly conditions. Hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, droughts, frigid temperatures, and huge winter storms are plentiful.
With all the insanity surrounding us don’t forget the wrath Mother Nature can unleash.

As it often happens received notifications from my local UPS Store that I had some packages arrive. I recently ordered some Glock 17 magazines to shore up my supplies. With the discussions in Congress of potential gun control bills and numerous a$$hole Republicans agreeing – I thought now was as good a time as any.
I own a newly purchased Blue-Label Glock 17, as well as a Ruger PC9. I bought the PC9 on a whim many months ago and at the same time bought 10 15-rd Magpul PMAG Glock magazines to go with it. Boy – wish I could go back and make those 17-rounders, however, so far have not gotten the whole time-travel thing down.
Back to reality: So I purchased the Glock 17 Gen 5 which came with 3 17-round magazines. Since I am concerned that there could be some legislation coming that may affect over-10 round magazines I decided to order up a few for the Glock(and the PC9). I grabbed 5 OEM Glock 17-rounders along with 5 Magpul PMAG 17-rounders.
Decent – but I’ll likely grab a few more.
Strict and severe gun control is just a matter of time. It may be a matter of weeks, or, it may be a matter of years. It will happen. Remembering what it was likely after the passage of the 1994 Assualt Weapons Ban I cannot help but remember that feeling of regret that I had not put back all that I had wanted – or needed.
No better time than the present.

Over the past three weeks, I’ve had numerous discussions with people regarding the world today. These include people of varying economic classes, races, education levels – and political perspectives. None would be considered serious preppers. Concerns over inflation, food shortages, inflated stock markets, increasing cost of housing, and a ridiculous national debt were involved in these discussions. Something else that came up was an inability – or at least a suspicion – that most ANYTHING heard on the national news could not be believed.
Of course, within the group of people I am referring there were varying degrees of opinion, but, the sentiment remained the same: people are troubled and truly look at the future with a giant question mark.
In most cases, my discussion never entered the realm of preparedness. The discussions stayed more mainstream.
Inflation and fuel prices were major concerns. What was absent was blame. Most just focus on the results rather than the equation. I guess for the most part the reason doesn’t matter as we have to deal with it and have little control over the causes.
One individual was very frustrated with the cost of housing. She mentioned that rent for apartments had risen over the past year and combined with everything else made life extremely difficult.
Buying extra food and “stocking up” were mentioned by most. Putting together a food storage program was outside the realm of most people’s thinking. A few extra cans of soup, an extra bag of flour – and some additional meat in the freezer seemed to make sense for most.
Those who I suspected of being towards the bottom of the income scale mentioned fuel prices most. While food was certainly a concern and complained about – less expensive meals can be planned but gas has to be put in tanks to get back and forth to work. Several complained that although they have seen their wages increase over the past year those increases were nowhere near enough.
One person, in particular, recognized the serious economic times were are in. He was well versed in the annual Federal deficit and astronomical National Debt. He also mentioned the massive printing of money that has occurred in just the past two years. He was the only person that actually suggested that there may be no end to this trend and saw bad things happening in the future.
Interestingly – no one mentioned the Russia-Ukraine issue.
So – what does all this mean and what are people to do?
My 2 cents say that over the coming months as things do in fact get worse protests leading to riots will happen. Unless the government quells the masses with stipends, some form of guaranteed income, or “stimulus checks” – many of those same people who rioted over social justice issues will take to the streets over economic injustices. A number of those who find themselves struggling to make ends meet, put a roof over their head, and fuel their car to get to a job that hasn’t kept up with inflation will join them.
The question once again: What do people do?
The simple answer is people need to put themselves in a position where they are insulated from the effects of inflation, supply chain issues, and food shortages. Well, insulated as much as possible.
In today’s world, this is not easy. People are responding to the changes going on by adapting in a variety of ways. Some are decreasing their housing costs by renting out rooms in their home. Some are using alternative housing such as buying a camper, living in a van or converted cargo trailer – and even in tents. People are eliminating debts and reducing monthly expenses to free up income to go towards necessities. Others are taking on additional jobs and starting their own side businesses to increase income.
Thoughts? What are you doing to combat inflation and deal with these issues? Do you have advice you would provide to others?

Anyone else think that this “SHTF” we have been planning on for the past couple of decades actually started a few years ago? Anyone else just flat out frustrated it isn’t what we thought it would be – well, at least not yet?
There are so many things going wrong right now not only in this country but all around the world. I truly try to look at things objectively using facts and logic with a little common sense thrown in. I’m trying to see a path towards the recovery of freedom and general positive welfare for all of us. I’m trying to see a path where the United States can become financially responsible. I’m trying to see a way that the people in this country can come together and have common beliefs aligned with what this country was founded with. I’m seeing only a few extremely remote possibilities of that happening. I’d be laughed off the ‘net if I listed them.
If – and that is a very big IF – I’m right then what do we each do about it?
For me and MPG we live life and work to be as happy as possible. Next, we set goals and daily make decisions that lead us towards reaching those goals. We prepare accordingly.

Talking with a few people some suggested that this inflation may be temporary. I seriously doubt it. The only way I see this reversing is if we enter a depression and we have deflation. Maybe…just maybe. I work as a Plant Manager for a manufacturing company. With that, I have huge exposure to the world of supply chains from varying industries as well as countries. Lead times have grown on many items from days to literally months. Suppliers are struggling to obtain certain ingredients and components needed to manufacture their products. Prices are rising multiple times per year. Everyone seems to be having labor shortages.
It’s real and with many issues involving food production, I have concerns about the empty shelves issue at the grocery store getting worse.

With the threat of cyberattacks, the importance of having a cash-based emergency fund is even more important. Having $1,000 sitting in the bank isn’t going to be good if you can’t access it. A “cash stash” easily accessible is best.
How much would you recommend? To me, I’m thinking to try to have a few thousand if you can afford it.

The Mossberg Shockwave is technically neither a shotgun, pistol, nor a rifle. It is simply considered a “firearm”. This is the reason that firearms such as the Shockwave can be purchased legally – in most areas.
What is it? It’s the answer to owning a short-barreled shotgun without a tax stamp.
The Mossberg Shockwave is extremely compact, handy, and powerful. Although extremely short it holds 5 full-size 2 3/4″ 12 gauge shells.
Very shortly after I bought the Shockwave a couple years ago I installed the SB Tactical pistol brace on it. I shot it with the OEM pistol grip it comes with and was not impressed. Hey – it’s a super-short “scattergun” with little method for aiming other than using the Force. The addition of the brace makes a HUGE difference.
Shooting the Shockwave with the brace with birdshot is not bad. Full-sized 00-Buck 2 3/4″ shells do pack a wallop and deliberate effort to have a forward stance to control the recoil and muzzle rise is needed. I’ve not shot any slugs through it.
I’ve already covered the major accessory added in the SB Tactical Brace. One drawback to the design is the limited capacity and no method for adding an extended tubular magazine.
The answer:
The OPSol® Mini-Clip 2.0 Flex mini-shell adapter. This simple, inexpensive, and rugged device allows the Shockwave to reliably feed 1.75″ 12-gauge mini-shells. The capacity increase is substantial at 9+1. At less than $20 I cannot say enough good things about this great little adapter.
I really like the mini-shell concept, especially in this platform. I see frequent comments that the mini-shells are “low recoil” and “underpowered”. Certainly the mini-shells – made famous by Aguila – do not contain the same payload as full-sized shells. They absolutely pack a wallop. Frequently when comparing different loads between the 1.75″ and 2 3/4″ shells the difference is simply the number of pellets or weight of slug. An example is the Federal 1.75″ No. 4 Buckshot. It sends 16 balls down range compared to the 24 to 27 in a 2 3/4″ shell. Not sure about you but I’ll pass on getting hit with even one.
When it comes to shotgun shells – size sorta matters….. 😉
The Shockwave – as I have equipped – provides a compact and powerful defensive tool. Period. I am famous for saying “options are a wonderful thing” and it’s absolutely true. The Mossberg Shockwave is an option for home and personal defense that fills a niche where other firearms may not. Use the mini-shells or full-size loads. Regardless – have fun!!!!

Well – I was not thrilled with the looks of the new design. I also had lost some content that was part of the previous design so I reversed everything, retrieved and backed up the content – and installed a new “theme” design. I’ll spend the next two days trying to clean up the look and details. Please feel free to give me your opinion on what you think.
This new theme is much more complex to work with as it has many more capabilities and features. Likely completion will be after New Year’s.

My position is this – It really doesn’t matter if the climate change is from man or mother nature. It’s changing and representing another challenge we have to consider in our risk matrix.

Ray Dalio, a successful and extremely wealthy hedge fund guru has publicly stated he believes there is a 30% chance of civil war within the next 10 years. I do see a glimmer of hope as there does seem to be an awakening going on within the United States. I’ve had this “theme,” or design of this website since its creation. Like with many other things, change is often good. I’ve considered changing the appearance and functionality of 1776PatriotUSA.com for quite some time. Why? Adapting to modern technology and modern multimedia devices is necessary. So – I may switch it up and give it a shot.
The challenge to change the appearance of the website is time. Once I flip the switch much is automatic, however, many small details are manual. Time.
We’ll see.

Continuing on with the “Dark Winter” theme – we continue to see shortages and experience difficulty to find things that we want to buy. Many media outlets are suggesting that Christmas shopping will be difficult this year due to shortages. Maybe it’s just me, however, the latest “toy” compared to FEEDING yourself is just not that important. But, I do realize that we are talking about life as we know it not as we necessarily see how we should experience it. If we cannot go out and buy a CLUE game then maybe that is a big deal for the masses. For most of us like-minded folks, we will prioritize more tangible things such as food, tools, communication equipment, oil filters, and even radio communication equipment over fluff like Xbox’s and sex toys.
Just a thought.

I started my latest weight loss/fitness goals at 229 pounds and I am down to 209. Not bad. I have accomplished this by eating very LOW FAT as I did as a late 80’s bodybuilder. Now? I’ve been told I need to have my gallbladder removed and have gallstones. Eating low fat as staving off the issue until after the first of the year.
I’ll readily admit I hate surgery – or any kind of medical procedure that involves cutting and stitches.

What we are experiencing is quite unlike anything most of us could have predicted. Between the insane government overreach from local all the way to Federal – to the economic challenges that we are and will continue to face.
