Update: Jake

A couple of weeks ago I put out a prayer request for my dog – Jake.ย  Jake had gotten very sick, not eating and having severe diarrhea. Typical actions for dietary issues for a large dog like Jake would be chicken breast and plain rice. It didn’t work.

A couple of visits the vet found nothing in blood work. Special food was provided but Jake continued to deteriorate. Jake was down 20 pounds from his high of 75 and getting weak. Another visit to the vets and they recommended taking him to a specialist.

The specialist kept him for several days running numerous tests. In the end, they found the problem. He has a disease that will not allow his body to ingest fats. The fats clog up his intestines which stop absorbing nutrients.

$2500, several prescriptions – and special low-fat food and he is recovering.

I really appreciate the prayers and positive response.

Thanks

Rourke

  3. I was initially worried by the tone of this update and didn’t wish to continue fearing
a poor outcome. Happy for Jake.

  4. Well, that was close, Glad Jake is better, and you had the wherewithal for the vet, I like to have lost my basset and I was sweating bullets over Don Vito,

  5. Rourke- I will continue to pray for you and Jake. I have never heard of this canine health issue .Does it manifest in his breed? Big hugs to Jake. Arlene

  6. Rourke- did the vet give you a name for this disorder? It seems very odd that it should begin at this time of his life. Cornell University of New York is also an exc. source of inf. Hugs and prayers to you and Jake and your family

    1. I am not sure of the name. She said it was fairly rare, but treatable with diet. I am getting ready to order a ton of the low-fat dog food.

      Thanks Arlene.
