Reflections on the Recce Rifle

Last year I built a rifle based on the Recce rifle concept using multiple components including another excellent upper from Midstate Firearms. It turned out great. I was recently browsing through some pictures and came across the one below which showed a group I shot at around 50 yards while sighting in the mounted Vortex Strike Eagle scope.

The rifle has continued to impress, although I have not shot it nearly as often as I would like. Between the Vortex 1-8X, the CMC trigger, and the Midstate Firearms upper, I’ve been impressed where this gun has made me a better shooter than I have been in the past. I’ve often said every gun I have will shoot better than me.

The 3-shot group above was at 100-yards. Zero was set at around 50-yards thus a high 100-yard group is expected.

Range day – 100-yard shooting.
