Short one here: Camper has been safely moved from South Carolina to Northern Kentucky. It’s all set up and as I type this a huge storm is rolling through with high winds.
Wonderful.
Rain is going sideways and the camper is being shaken pretty good. The awning has been brought in and we’ll see how it goes. Going to storm all night.

Over the past three weeks, I’ve had numerous discussions with people regarding the world today. These include people of varying economic classes, races, education levels – and political perspectives. None would be considered serious preppers. Concerns over inflation, food shortages, inflated stock markets, increasing cost of housing, and a ridiculous national debt were involved in these discussions. Something else that came up was an inability – or at least a suspicion – that most ANYTHING heard on the national news could not be believed.
Of course, within the group of people I am referring there were varying degrees of opinion, but, the sentiment remained the same: people are troubled and truly look at the future with a giant question mark.
In most cases, my discussion never entered the realm of preparedness. The discussions stayed more mainstream.
Inflation and fuel prices were major concerns. What was absent was blame. Most just focus on the results rather than the equation. I guess for the most part the reason doesn’t matter as we have to deal with it and have little control over the causes.
One individual was very frustrated with the cost of housing. She mentioned that rent for apartments had risen over the past year and combined with everything else made life extremely difficult.
Buying extra food and “stocking up” were mentioned by most. Putting together a food storage program was outside the realm of most people’s thinking. A few extra cans of soup, an extra bag of flour – and some additional meat in the freezer seemed to make sense for most.
Those who I suspected of being towards the bottom of the income scale mentioned fuel prices most. While food was certainly a concern and complained about – less expensive meals can be planned but gas has to be put in tanks to get back and forth to work. Several complained that although they have seen their wages increase over the past year those increases were nowhere near enough.
One person, in particular, recognized the serious economic times were are in. He was well versed in the annual Federal deficit and astronomical National Debt. He also mentioned the massive printing of money that has occurred in just the past two years. He was the only person that actually suggested that there may be no end to this trend and saw bad things happening in the future.
Interestingly – no one mentioned the Russia-Ukraine issue.
So – what does all this mean and what are people to do?
My 2 cents say that over the coming months as things do in fact get worse protests leading to riots will happen. Unless the government quells the masses with stipends, some form of guaranteed income, or “stimulus checks” – many of those same people who rioted over social justice issues will take to the streets over economic injustices. A number of those who find themselves struggling to make ends meet, put a roof over their head, and fuel their car to get to a job that hasn’t kept up with inflation will join them.
The question once again: What do people do?
The simple answer is people need to put themselves in a position where they are insulated from the effects of inflation, supply chain issues, and food shortages. Well, insulated as much as possible.
In today’s world, this is not easy. People are responding to the changes going on by adapting in a variety of ways. Some are decreasing their housing costs by renting out rooms in their home. Some are using alternative housing such as buying a camper, living in a van or converted cargo trailer – and even in tents. People are eliminating debts and reducing monthly expenses to free up income to go towards necessities. Others are taking on additional jobs and starting their own side businesses to increase income.
Thoughts? What are you doing to combat inflation and deal with these issues? Do you have advice you would provide to others?

I apologize for not posting more frequently lately. We are in the process of moving to Kentucky due to my job. While it is a great opportunity it’s also pretty stressful. It’s a step in the direction we wish to go. Living at our retreat is within our grasp and hopefully, within the next few months, we will no longer be living full-time in a camper and be on acreage.
Northern Kentucky is a means to an end – or a new beginning depending on how you look at it. A few years of sacrifice to be able to then move on to what is truly the end game. In the meantime, we’ll be in a better place, especially with all the craziness in the world.
In another week or so the move will be complete. Traveling back and forth to South Carolina will occur for several weeks before our final move takes place. Looking forward to new challenges.

Shocking? No, not really. I just saw a double pack of Coleman 16 oz propane cylinders which several years ago sold for $5.79 at Wallyworld and most recently was just under $7 – priced at $9.88. Nuts.
I recently had to reorder some supplies for the Tier 1 Minuteman IFAK and yup, prices have jumped. I have to adjust the price north of $40 and figured I’d throw it out there for the next couple of weeks I’ll keep the price at $36.99 here(I sell it elsewhere as well). I’ve got to look at everything and make sure I adjust prices based on these recent increases. I’ve always shipped free – and as of April 1st shipping has increased. No matter what I continue to work to keep prices as low as possible and the value high.

Went to the grocery store earlier today and spent over $100 on what I feel would have been $65 several months ago. Many struggle to get their head around all that is happening throughout the world. Many ignore it sticking their heads in the sand and basking in ignorant bliss. Oh well.

That’s “reality” as in what is real and we experience in life versus “realty” that involves land and property sales. We continue to travel down the path of life and see numerous things pass by us such as Russia/Ukraine, inflation, COVID, the demise of the American foundational principles, etc. The reality is there really isn’t anything we can do about it.
Many of us have been pissed at elections, politicians, media outlets, and the like and it really is for naught. As individuals we live our lives, go to work, have relationships with people – and that’s it. As individuals there simply is little we can do that will affect international relationships, laws passed in Congress, nor the rules and policies that impact us on a daily basis. We can scream at the city council that zoning should be changed but at the end of the day it is rare things will go the RIGHT way(though it happens…..sometimes).
I’ll continue to pronounce the words of frequent visitor and commenter here – Mr. John Gault: Live your life.
Control that which you can control. Live your life and place an emphasis on family and close friends. Make contingencies for that which may happen, prepare for what may occur in the future – including positive outcomes. It may – in fact – all turn out OK. It may also NOT. So, conduct your planning accordingly.
This is not fun.
This weekend I’m planning on going out and doing something for fun. Balance. Life needs balance. It simply cannot be all doomsday and zombies.

Many may be unaware but we(Maine Prepper Girl and I) live in a camper full-time. It’s a long story and I should probably recap it here at some point but, the point is, I no longer have the land for an in-ground garden like I once did. Yes. A few years ago I lived in a house and had a decent-sized garden where I grew numerous varieties of vegetables. I also had raised beds I used to expand my growing capacity.
So now in a camper, I miss my garden and turned to container gardening. I even made a small 2 foot by 4 foot raised bed.

Here’s a quick video in which I am showing a recent project – a survival seed bank. This is one of a few I am putting together. I currently do not have any land which to plant a garden, however, I know that if things went south that would change reasonably quickly.
I also recently purchased some freeze-dried seeds from FrostySeed.com. I consider those my “last resort seeds” as they have the longest shelf life. What a fantastic prep!!

I’ve shared this list of commonly available heirloom seeds in the past as so frequently companies repackage common seeds as “heirloom” and double the price. Heirloom seeds are attractive to many gardeners due to their non-GMO and non-hybrid status and the ability to harvest seeds for future planting.
The reality is that many seeds commonly sold at Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Lowe’s, and similar businesses are in fact heirloom and very inexpensive. The very same seed variety packaged as “heirloom” in a colorful mylar bag will sell for 2-4X what the “budget” seed pack will sell for.

“Heirloom varieties are open-pollinated–meaning that unlike hybrids, seeds you collect from one year will produce plants with most of the characteristics of the parent plant. And that’s key to their survival.
Many heirloom varieties were preserved by home gardeners who saved seed from their family gardens from year to year. Other seeds traveled around the world in the pockets or letters of immigrants, which is why, though the tomato evolved in Central America, we have varieties from Russia, Italy, Japan, France, Germany and Kentucky.”

So Arlene asked me what my prediction is regarding Putin and nuclear war. I’ll start by saying that most every prediction I’ve made over the past few decades has been wrong. Oh – I’m glad about that by the way. Predicting the future and what will happen is incredibly difficult as there are so many variables to track and each of those variables influences the outcome of whatever situation we are looking at. So – here I go: Will we have a nuclear war with Russia?
No.
Hopefully, my track record improves a bit with this accurate prediction of what will occur in the future.
No – I do not see Putin launching nuclear weapons at the United States. Mutually assured destruction is a powerful thing and has worked since the Cold War. There are varying reports that what we are all seeing in the media is completely false. Reports of Ukraine holding their own and potentially winning in some cases appear to be completely false. I do not see any path to Ukraine holding off the Russian bear. It’s only a matter of time.
I’m not going to get into whose fault all this is happening. The reality is there simply is nothing that we – you and I can do about it. All we can do is live our lives and prepare accordingly.
It’s a very strange feeling hearing all this talk of nuclear war. I started my interest – my infatuation – with survival and preparedness as a teenager of the Cold War. I read everything I could get my hands on at 14 years old on nuclear war and nuclear war survival. It is so strange that after all these years it has come full circle and here I am again.
So – what now?
I am predicting we will NOT have a nuclear war. Remember my track record of predictions? I may very well be wrong. Maybe there will be a few tactical nukes launched in Europe. Maybe here in the States. Maybe Russia will set off a couple of EMPs.
So – what now?
Prepare.

Hello all. This will be a very quick post as I have just seen that potassium iodide – which can HELP protect from the absorption of radiation in certain cases – is selling out everywhere and prices are skyrocketing.
Right now on Amazon, I have found one brand that is available. The dosage is 65mg so you would have to double that to get the recommended dosage for saturating your thyroid. Understand – the consumption of potassium iodide is for short-term events and should be used for an emergency only. Do your due diligence and perform research on why you would take it and when and for how long.

2 tablets (whole or crushed) every day (130 mg)
Children over 12 years to 18 years who weigh at least 150 pounds
2 tablets (whole or crushed) every day (130 mg)
Children over 12 years to 18 years who weigh less than 150 pounds
1 tablet (whole or crushed) or 8 teaspoons every day (65 mg)
Children over 3 years to 12 years
1 tablet (whole or crushed) or 8 teaspoons every day (65 mg)
Children over 1 month to 3 years
4 teaspoons every day (32.5 mg)
Babies at birth to 1 month
2 teaspoons every day (16.25 mg)
Tablets can be crushed and mixed in many liquids. To take the tablet in liquid solution, use dosing directions under Making a Potassium Iodide Liquid Mixture.
Take KI every day (every 24 hours) as directed by public officials. Do not take more than 1 dose in 24 hours. More will not help you. Too much medicine may increase the chances of side effects.
1. Put one 65 mg KI tablet into a small bowl and grind it into a fine powder using the back of a metal teaspoon against the inside of the bowl. The powder should not have any large pieces.
2. Add 4 teaspoons of water to the crushed KI powder in the bowl and mix until the KI powder is dissolved in the water.
3. Take the KI water mixture solution made in step 2 and mix it with 4 teaspoons of low fat white or chocolate milk, orange juice, flat soda, raspberry syrup, or infant formula.
4. The KI liquid mixture will keep for up to 7 days in the refrigerator. It is recommended that the KI liquid mixtures be prepared weekly. Throw away unused portions.
The amount of KI (65 mg tablet) in the drink when mixed as described above is 8.125 mg per teaspoon. The number of teaspoons of the drink to give your child depends on your child’s age as described in the following table:

| Birth to 1 month | 2 teaspoons will give you a 16.25 mg dose |
Note: This is the amount to give your child for one single dose in teaspoons (not tablespoons). You should give your child one dose each day as recommended by the public officials.
Here is another book that has some great information in it related to nuclear war and preparedness. Back in the 80’s and early 90’s this was the bible of survival when it came to preparing for nuclear war. I have a couple more I’ll share soon.

This can be downloaded and viewed offline or read here on the site. Of note is Appendix C – a fictional account of Charlottesville, VA.

These survival and preparedness files are all in PDF format and are fully printable. I’m an advocate of building a digital preparedness information system. Hardcopy books and manuals are best, but, they are heavy and take up a lot of space. A vast digital information system consisting of thousands of books, manuals, guides, etc. can be stored on a small microSD card or flash drive and accessed via inexpensive tablets or computers. There is tremendous value in such a system.
Every time I bring this “digital library” the internet experts always bring up, “What if there’s an EMP?” My response – “What if there’s not?” There are steps that can be taken to protect electronics and raise the possibility of keeping the system functioning.

Now we are being told that we are all going to “have costs” for the crisis in Ukraine. More specifically, the global energy crisis just took a dramatic turn for the worse, and so that means that all of us will soon be hit by dramatically higher energy prices. It is going to be much more expensive to fill up your vehicle, it is going to be much more expensive to heat your home, and increasing costs to transport the goods that we buy will make the overall rate of inflation even worse. Up to this point, a large chunk of the U.S. population really didn’t have much interest in following the conflict in Ukraine, but now it is going to have a huge impact on every single one of us.
In response to the Russians moving forces into Donetsk and Luhansk on Monday, the Germans decided on Tuesday to put the Nord Stream 2 pipeline on hold indefinitely…
Germany on Tuesday halted the Nord Stream 2 Baltic Sea gas pipeline project, designed to double the flow of Russian gas direct to Germany, after Russia formally recognised two breakaway regions in eastern Ukraine.
Europe’s most divisive energy project, worth $11 billion, was finished in September, but has stood idle pending certification by Germany and the European Union.
Will this hurt Russia?
Of course it will.
But it is also going to hurt Europe. Following Germany’s announcement, the price of natural gas in Europe shot up by about 10 percent…
But on Tuesday the European benchmark gas price, currently the Dutch March contract, was up 9.8% at 78.95 euros per megawatt hour (MWh) at 1607 GMT, much like the price for the fourth quarter, when Nord Stream 2 had been expected to start.
And this is likely just the beginning of another natural gas price shock in Europe. Dmitry Medvedev is warning that Europeans “are very soon going to pay €2.000 for 1.000 cubic meters of natural gas”…
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has issued an order to halt the process of certifying the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. Well. Welcome to the brave new world where Europeans are very soon going to pay €2.000 for 1.000 cubic meters of natural gas!
If the price of natural gas actually gets that high, it will be completely and utterly devastating for Europe.
The Europeans never should have allowed themselves to become so dependent on natural gas from Russia, and now a tremendous amount of pain is ahead.
Meanwhile, the price of crude oil surged once again on Tuesday and has now almost reached 100 dollars a barrel…
U.S. crude surged more than 3% at one point to a high of $96. The contract ended the session 1.4% higher at $92.35 per barrel. Brent traded as high as $99.50, before settling at $96.84 per barrel for a gain of 1.52%.
It won’t be too long before the global price of oil goes well beyond the $100 per barrel threshold.
Needless to say, that won’t be good for the global economy at all.
On Tuesday, JPMorgan specifically warned about what an “energy price shock” could mean…
As oil rapidly approaches $100 a barrel, JPMorgan warned Tuesday that a spike in energy prices and other ripple effects from the Russia-Ukraine crisis could hurt both the stock market and the economic recovery.
“An energy price shock amidst an aggressive central bank pivot focused on inflation could further dampen investor sentiment and growth outlook,” JPMorgan strategists wrote in a note to clients.
But Joe Biden says that all of the bad things that are about to happen are necessary because we are “defending freedom”…
“Defending freedom will have costs, for us as well, and here at home,” he said during a speech at the White House. “We need to be honest about that.”
The president specifically warned of higher gas prices as a result of the sanctions but promised he would use “every tool” possible to reduce gas and energy prices.
“I want to limit the pain the American people are feeling at the gas pump,” he said.
Of course higher energy prices won’t cause much pain for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris because they are both multi-millionaires.
What Biden should have admitted is that you will be paying the price for his administration’s horrific foreign policy decisions.
On Tuesday, it was being reported that the price of gasoline in downtown Los Angeles has already risen above six dollars a gallon…
Fuel customers in California were in for a shock this week as gas prices at the pump hit upwards of $6 in downtown Los Angeles.
In a report by Bakersfield ABC affiliate KERO-TV, gas station customers expressed being overwhelmed by the extremely high gas prices.
“They’re too damn high,” one customer told reporters, adding it’s made commuting much more difficult as she normally fills her tank three times a week.
I remember a time when I could fill up my vehicle for less than a dollar a gallon.
And just a couple of years ago, the average price of a gallon of gasoline was less than three dollars a gallon.
Sadly, this is just the beginning.
Once a major global conflict erupts, we could eventually see the price of gasoline go beyond ten dollars a gallon.
I know that may sound crazy right now, but remember where you heard it first.
Of course higher energy prices filter through every level of our economy, and we are already in the midst of the worst inflation crisis that any of us have ever experienced. In fact, we just learned that home prices increased by a whopping 18.8 percent last year…
Home prices rose 18.8% in 2021, according to the S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller US National Home Price Index, the biggest increase in 34 years of data and substantially ahead of 2020’s 10.4% gain.
All regions saw price gains last year, but increases were strongest in the South and the Southeast, each of which were up over 25%.
The stage has been set for the sort of hyperinflation that I have been warning about for a very long time.
But even though Biden’s absolutely disastrous domestic and foreign policy decisions have brought us to this point, the mainstream media and millions upon millions of “sheeple” will continue to cheer Biden on.
Despite so much evidence to contrary, they will continue to believe that Biden and his minions can guide us through this mess somehow.
Unfortunately for all of us, Biden and his minions are completely and utterly incompetent, and the worst is yet to come.

Anyone else think that this “SHTF” we have been planning on for the past couple of decades actually started a few years ago? Anyone else just flat out frustrated it isn’t what we thought it would be – well, at least not yet?
There are so many things going wrong right now not only in this country but all around the world. I truly try to look at things objectively using facts and logic with a little common sense thrown in. I’m trying to see a path towards the recovery of freedom and general positive welfare for all of us. I’m trying to see a path where the United States can become financially responsible. I’m trying to see a way that the people in this country can come together and have common beliefs aligned with what this country was founded with. I’m seeing only a few extremely remote possibilities of that happening. I’d be laughed off the ‘net if I listed them.
If – and that is a very big IF – I’m right then what do we each do about it?
For me and MPG we live life and work to be as happy as possible. Next, we set goals and daily make decisions that lead us towards reaching those goals. We prepare accordingly.

Talking with a few people some suggested that this inflation may be temporary. I seriously doubt it. The only way I see this reversing is if we enter a depression and we have deflation. Maybe…just maybe. I work as a Plant Manager for a manufacturing company. With that, I have huge exposure to the world of supply chains from varying industries as well as countries. Lead times have grown on many items from days to literally months. Suppliers are struggling to obtain certain ingredients and components needed to manufacture their products. Prices are rising multiple times per year. Everyone seems to be having labor shortages.
It’s real and with many issues involving food production, I have concerns about the empty shelves issue at the grocery store getting worse.

With the threat of cyberattacks, the importance of having a cash-based emergency fund is even more important. Having $1,000 sitting in the bank isn’t going to be good if you can’t access it. A “cash stash” easily accessible is best.

#1: Started with a bucket and threw in a bunch of dirt and added a couple gallons of water.
#2: Used a towel as a pre-filter to remove the larger particles.
#3: Towel caught the larger sediment/contaminants. A finer pre-filter for capturing more of the larger particles would be suggested(coffee filters good for this).

The results are impressive. It’s not surprising the water looked crystal clear after all that is what is supposed to happen. Flow rate was excellent at around 5-6 gallons an hour.
I drank the entire glass of filtered water and found it had no off-taste and tasted like….well…..clean water. While this test was dealing with only sediment and suspended particles in water, the Sawyer also excels at removing pathogens and bacteria.

I’ll throw my vote in that the Chuck Norris movie Lone Wolf Mcquade is the best movie ever made. Yeah – it’s full of masculinity and loads of testosterone. Yup – and I think it’s that same stuff that won two world wars and the lack thereof that lost Vietnam and Afghanistan(damn politicians!!).
Color me reactionary but I tend to look at things as fairly black and white, hot and cold, on and off. Either the equation adds up or it doesn’t.
Lone Wolf Mcquade has Chuck Norris doing the right things against the wrong people without taking into consideration what race they are, how it might affect the climate, and whether or not celebrities will have a favorable opinion on it.
Chuck was able to bed Barbara Carrera and kick David Carradienes ass at the same time. He’s my hero and to me – – – this movie represented freedom and the RIGHT way of looking at things.
Maybe I’m just nuts.

I put together a 2 week(or close) food bucket. Just showing what can be done with a minimal budget. Certainly not the ideal diet…lol, but better than starving. The next bucket will be completely different and will add variety along with this one.

It’s appearing that the invasion of Ukraine by Russia is imminent. As of this writing, Russia has stationed well over 100,000 troops along the Ukrainian border and has also moved ships to the area. Russia has literally begun to encircle Ukraine with military activities north, east, and south.
What impact will an invasion have on us? Well, nothing good. Beyond that, we can make a few educated guesses:
A Russian invasion will cause a wave of instability to circle through global financial markets. Next up we will see a spike in an already inflated oil market and along with that more inflation due to higher transportation costs. Assuming the threat of massive sanctions against Russia is carried out – the threat of nation-sponsored cyberattacks here in the United States is almost a certainty. Lastly – the relationship between Russia and China will grow stronger.
The United States will NOT get in a direct conflict with Russia over Ukraine. There’s no indication of this nor is there any reason. I am most concerned about the potential effects of cyberattacks here in the states. Cyberattacks offer a certain level of denial. Putin can strike at the West – while denying any knowledge or involvement.
Raising fuel prices. Continued supply chain issues. More inflation. Cyberattacks.
Prepare accordingly.
