What Did You Do To Prep This Week?

This past week flew by. Had planned to go to my brothers place in Georgia but had to cancel last minute due to some issues with my 17 year old. Just didn’t feel I could leave for the weekend. So – had guns and some other equipment all packed in my 1997 Mustang GT convertible ready to go. Oh well.

This week picked up my new Springfield Operator 1911 45ACP.  My time spent with the Panhandle Rancher convinced me to acquire one.  Need to order extra magazines, a holster, and a light to mount on the rail. I really like the Streamlight TLR-1.

I also received a Convoy L6 3,800 lumen LED flashlight from Gearbest. I ordered some batteries and a charger off Amazon and “WOW!” – this thing is incredible. The bad part of mentioning this light is Capt. Michaels is going to have to explain to his wife why he NEEDS another flashlights. I’ll post a review with some comparison pictures to show just how bright this thing is.

Continued re-reading Book 5 of 299 Days. Great series.

Sharpened a few knives. Need some better knife sharpening equipment. Ceramic sticks is my normal method.

I watched little of the DNC convention. Basically the first night and then listened to some of Hillary’s speech.

Horrible. I have never heard such rhetoric and lies.

A friend of mine posted on FB……

I’m gonna say this and if it pisses you off or offends you, then Piss on you. I don’t give a crap what party you’re for or whether you even like Trump. But you better make a tough decision and realize how it effects your children and their children. We approaching a degree of Lawlessness never before seen in this Nation.
And I will flat out tell you there is One thing and One thing alone that is there to stop it. The American Lawman. And yes, it does suck to get a ticket, it does suck to have an at fault wreck or get stopped on your way somewhere when you’re already late, but in every instance your Actions led you there. You simply brush off these Officers being ambushed, shot and killed and brutally attacked as well, by simply saying, it’s not here. Well to Us it is here, Indianapolis could be Brandon Brown, Washington state could be Marquez, we have brothers and sisters everywhere. Once you’ve driven the Heart and desire out of the Police Officer, Woe unto us all. And furthermore, without your own protection, you’re even more vulnerable to predators. Every city in the Nation can and will be Chicago with out one key ingredient, the Police. So keep cheering at their Deaths, their attacks, their families destroyed over what’s lost, for when its gone, its gone. That among other things better be heavily on your mind when you push a button in November.

Stay safe my friends……

Your turn.

Honestly I’ve been falling behind, just kind of burned out dealing constantly with those who want to do something preparedness related then bail, flake out or want to turn it into a patriot/militia type group. Right now just trying to clean the garage so I can work on my late fathers cars to get up and running. It’s been a long time coming. JR, what was it that convinced you to add a 1911 to the arms locker? I had a 1911 Springfield years ago as primary SHTF handgun but ended up getting rid of it for a Hi Power clone due to the increased magazine.

Nada. Had family in from out of town.

Ordered a new AR15 a couple of weeks ago and now need a Lower Receiver. Any advice on where to get one. Palmetto State Armory sells a blemish one for $79.99 plus I will have an FFL fee. Another location here in GA can sell me one for $117.00.

Any advise. I have never put an AR together but looks like I am going to learn how!

Fred C – PSA lowers are good.I like Anderson lowers as well. If you can find a stripped lower locally you should be able to find one for less than $75. I bought an Anderson for $50.

Regarding putting together a lower I used Youtube. Find a video – watch it all the way through – then watch it step by step as you do your own.

I’ve been pretty productive over the last few days. I got a branch from a moringa tree from a neighbor and turned it into four cuttings to root. I also got a couple seed pods which look like huge long been pods. I popped one of them open and removed the 14 seeds to try to sprout. I placed a damp paper towel in a plastic deli container and put the seeds on the towel and put the lid on it. Two days later now and I have sprouts! They are going in three gallon pots today.
Do an online search on the moringa tree guys. Talk about your survival plant. It’s been known as the tree of live going back to ancient Egyptian times. The most nutritionally complete plant known to man.

Timely comment CT…..had read a small bit about this new-to-me plant but only as a supplement type food, not as something i would grow. That is until your comment. What i found leads me to believe i can grow it as an annual here in zone 4…..now just to procure a supply of seed since it will die off in the cold. Another item on my list but well worth it from what i read…..Thanks !!!

    Fred C..
Right there with you .. advice .. before you spend a bunch and mismatch something (high pressure can hurt you). find a buddy that knows and let them take you through it.. If you are worried about not being ABLE to get one after November.. I suggest using a reputable site or shop to assist.. and learn on the second one..

Let me see if I can paraphrase someone I respect (he knows who he is here). You probably don’t need a lot of bullets, you need a few bullets that are absolutely controlled and confidently delivered to target accurately. Again my take away .. Remember a handgun is good for personal protection and to get yo to a shotgun and/or rifle.. IMO

For me canned tons of food, added 10 oz silver, added dehydrated food, salt x 2, and 1 case MRE’s. Planned two outings.. One is to do nothing but live out of my BOB for the weekend and practice small unit tactics, and see what works. (the concession; it will be in October.. whew! cooler). Gardening, maintenance on equipment.. in the after I’ll need to be better at both. re-organized the various functional lockers and stores. Arranged to take wife unit to get her concealed carry (big deal), and will size for carry weapon at same time. I’m sure there is more ..
be deliberate and be diligent.. if you can’t do it all.. do what you can.

GG58, my mentor who’s now in his 70’s is a old school survivalist who preached very similar thoughts about the sidearm being a 45 & you use it to get to your rifle. If you needed concealment it was a snubby 38 – period. That’s why I started with a 1911 but switched as JHP in 9mm advanced closing the gap in leathality. BUT, you’ve peaked a mental discussion with myself on this subject. Just what IS the role of the sidearm/handgun for the prepper/survivalist or just for me. Thank you.

This week was so busy I didn’t do much. I picked up some 223, 9mm and .22. Added some to first aid supplies, bandages, gauze, etc. Got some paper towels and TP, peroxide, alcohol, and added some mags for AR and AK. That is all. – Keep Looking UP
