I’ve watched this apocalyptic/SHTF movie several times and have enjoyed it. Overall seemed to be a pretty realistic depiction of what could transpire during a similar event. When discussed on other websites and on forums I often see a lot of criticism of it being unrealistic and pointing out all the mistakes people make. That is what makes it more genuine as most people will not be prepared and will make mistakes.
Thanks to BiblesNBarbells for posting it. Not sure how long it will stay up so watch when you can.

I really hated the way they portrayed the prepper but made those who were least prepared yet relied upon the generosity of others/govt to turn out okay. Although the prepper in that movie is kind of what most wannabe preppers are – have all the stuff but no real plan. Putting a kid on watch by himself at night was just foolish. Wish someone would make a video like that but put in a actual preparedness member/group but I guess it wouldn’t make a good story line.
jh – I thought the faults from the prepper made a good story line as people could learn from his mistakes. Agree – kid on watch was crazy and a horrible idea and the end results of the preppers decisions showed how bad they were.
I saw it when it first came out on tv, I agree with jh, made the prepper look bad but that’s to be expected now days. It wasn’t bad it gave some scenarios that are believable.
Thanks Tim.
Liked the movie. Makes you think. Thinking, playing it out in your mind, rehearsing, building muscle memory, that’s what we should be doing. Thanks for sharing. Keep Looking UP
Thanks JBernDrApt. I enjoyed it.
This is my 3rd time to watch it. I still have the same opinions. All the city slugs and especially the folks who were whining about no one helping them, who were unprepared are part of the “herd thinning” or the first 90%. For all those stuck in the elevators, those I could see as having been victimized by the event. I don’t think an EDC bag would get you out of the problem, only perhaps a GHB could.
As far as the prepper family….still raises my blood pressure. To begin with, the daughter could have had a choice. She could have enthusiastically jumped to help the family bug out and left the long hair slug at home, or she could have stayed there with him when the family left. One or the other. I would never have taken him with me and I would not tolerate the daughter’s objections. As far as the kid on guard, you have got to be kidding me.
The movie leaves you thinking not so much about the grid going down, but what have you got to do to plug holes in your prep’s. I still have to finalize my plan on getting water from my well….solar energy to run the submersible or a hand pump to replace it.
Thanks Oren – I enjoyed it for that specific reason you mentioned. It got me thinking and agree with some of the horrible decisions and mistakes.
It wasn’t enjoyed at our home and I didn’t make it very far into the TV series.

It is probably just me. I don’t do well with excitable females making loud, high pitch, poor me – help me – noises, and have low tolerance for gross stupidity.
PR
PR – I am not familar with any series related to the movie.
No gross stupidity – the excitable females are optional. I don’t do well with either.

PanHandle, are you referring to the series “Fear the Walking Dead”? I got thru 2 or 3 episodes and had to stop. The druggie kid, I would have shot him in the forehead. The daughter I would have left behind. The number 2 wife who appears to be a certified liberal/tree hugger would have been left behind also. Would have gone to number 1 wife, who appeared to have her head screwed on right, picked up the son who didn’t appear to be too far out there, and then bugged out.
I was rooting for the zombies in the 2nd episode.
Any or all,l Oren.
The wife watches those Walking Dead type shows while I try to enjoy a good book. Sometimes I have to get up and leave. I just cannot understand the bizarre national fascination with vampires and zombies. To my way of thought, the real world has enough scares without over stimulation of imaginary dangers. Likewise for crime dramas. How many times must one see a homicide (even simulated) before having altered thoughts/world viewpoints? If I never see someone injured or killed again, even in Hollywood simulation of life (or I guess death), my life will be better. I suppose the lives of some people are so awfully dreary that only seeing a simulated homicide makes them feel alive. The whole thing is bizarre to my way of thought. You may well conclude that I pay little attention to most things movie and TV.

This is the first I have heard of this flick; thanks for sharing it.
No problem Indiana Joe. Free on YouTube – can’t beat that.
okay maybe this could be a whole different post but “What did the prepper do wrong” in American blackout? And while at it, check out the British version of Blackout too – little more harsh language but a different look at it with some similar outcomes.
