The following is a book published back in 1979 that provides excellent information on the effects of nuclear weapons and offers examples of what an attack would look like. This can be downloaded and viewed offline or read here on the site. Of note is Appendix C – a fictional account of Charlottesville, VA.

Could we live through something like this? Do I want to try, NO.
You need to be careful of the iodine pills. They do not recommend them for people 55 and older because of it’s cancer causing characteristics.
I plan to use a 12″ X 12″ patch on my skin, daily, to provide the same protections without the cancer risk.

here in the gulf coast we get hurricanes on a regular basis. most are just an annoyance but it was Katrina that was my wake up call to move ahead with my preparedness plans.
one week without water.
4 weeks without electricity which meant nothing was working- stores-gas stations, nothing in a 150 mile radius for a month.
yea, that was my wake up call. fortunately my wife and i have always been avid primitive campers so we had the skills, tools and know how to get by. we did alright and had plenty of food. but it was hot!!!
