    Changed the “What’s Rourke Reading…” at the bottom of the page. It has been years since I read Patriots – by James Wesley-Rawles. Listening to the audio version and it is very good. This is a book written so that when read a pad and paper should be present.

    The flooding in Houston is a very good example of why having a plan to relocate – or “bug out” – is important. Maybe it isn’t flooding. Maybe it is a dangerous tanker spill or civil unrest.

    Border agents recently discovered a hidden tunnel near the Mexican border and SanDiego. What is unique is the tunnel was being used primarily for smuggling people  – not drugs – into the United States. When the tunnel was discovered arrests were made including 23 Chinese and 7 Mexicans.

    Chinese? I find that odd.

    I owned a Gen 1 Glock 17 years ago and loved it. Over the last 10 years, I have owned numerous duty pistol and have stuck with the M&P9. In fact – when I bought the M&P I went to go get a G17 and after looking at several offerings I decided on the M&P. The reason was quite simple – it felt better to ME than all the other pistols including the G17. Since then I have continued to check out the different generations of Glock and continued to stick with the M&P.

    Glock has now released the Gen 5 version with some minor improvements. Will I change? No. In fact, I am planning on getting the M&P 2.0 this Fall. Nothing against the Glock 17 but the M&P remains what is best for ME.

    Hey – that is what is great about the current firearms industry. There are many choices out there and just like cars just go out and find the one that fits YOU.

    I will say this: Glock’s are overpriced. They are no better than many other choices out there though they are more expensive than most. If they dropped their prices and averaged $499 for their entire line of full-sized duty pistols that would push the competition well away from their top selling position. I wish that would happen.

    I think the “rabbit apocalypse” is well underway. This entire summer I have seen hundreds of rabbits. My back yard is fenced in and plenty of scents from two big husky’s and the rabbits continue to come in. I let Bella out just a bit ago and “whoosh!!!!” she almost caught one.

    All in the path of Hurricane Harvey stay safe. The storm looks to dump a dangerous amount of rain. I visited Houston once and came away with memories of a decent rain causing huge puddles.

    Back in the day when I didn’t know anything, it is amazing I thought Uzi pistols and Tec-9’s were the ultimate guns to have when the Soviets invaded(80’s).

    Trump made a 77-minute speech in Arizona. I listened to some of it and while predictable – it was very good. Outside law enforcement was pelted with rocks and water bottles. That was also quite typical as the snowflakes began to melt.

    Also at the “protest” in Phoenix, the John Brown Gun Club showed up armed with AR’s and Ak’s professing to the media they were there to stand up for the violent protesters against “white supremacists”.

    If you haven’t heard ESPN removed an announcer for a football game because his name is “Robert Lee” – afraid some might be offended as his name matches that of a Confederate General.

    People – this is a perfect example of political correctness gone WAY TOO FAR.

    Entities such as BET (Black Entertainment Television) disturb me. In a world where so many call for equality and fairness – to have a television channel purposely segregate an entire race is just wrong. Now – I believe in freedom of speech and people, for the most part, should be able to do what they want if they do not hurt anyone else but come on. If the WET (White Entertainment Network) were to be created those supporting BET would freak.

    Apple picking season is almost here – at least in my area. Always enjoy taking a trip to the North Carolina mountains and walking through rolling hills of an apple orchard.

    Ammunition Shortage: Officially over. Pretty obvious but it is important to remember that not that long ago many calibers could not be purchased locally or if found extremely high prices. While my supply levels are very good I need to take advantage of the low prices.

    Cars as Weapons: I predict that cars will be used as weapons more and more into the future both here and abroad. Construction of new buildings will begin to have barriers as standard equipment to protect inhabitants. Malls, shopping centers, schools, and government buildings will start the installation of barriers as preventive measures against the growing trend.

    More on Organizing & Communication: I had someone suggest creating a forum awhile back and charge a small monthly fee to join. The reason for the small fee it to keep the more serious folks in it and the “browsers” out. If they are not willing to pay $3.00 per month then they may not be too serious about it. I don’t know. It is not secure and there would need to be some way of vetting those coming in. This is a more public way of getting like-minded folks together.

    Facebook Alternative: Capt Michaels sent me a link to “Gab“. Gab is a social media platform that was created due to the free speech bias on most social media platforms. I have set up an account but not looked around much yet.

    Pulled up most everything out of the garden except eggplants, peppers, and okra. The second round of plantings did not pan out too well. The heat and intense sun really did a number on cucumber and squash plants.

    In my area, there are signs on the highway warning of severe traffic on Monday – due to the eclipse. I live in an area that runs right along with the best visibility for the eclipse this many will be traveling through here. I’m thinking of taking Monday off from work so I don’t need to deal with the possible congestion.

    As of this writing, Amazon has the KMASHI 10,000mAh Battery Power Bank on sale for only $11.99. This is a heck of a bargain and as a very happy user of two of them, I just ordered a third. Perfect to have in a glove box or purse to charge phones.

    While everyone is fighting over statues and debating why the Civil War was fought the National Debt continues to spiral out of control towards $20 trillion with no fix in sight.

    How far we have fallen since 9/11 that America is divided over illegal immigration, history, and even responding to a country who threatens to nuke us.

    There is true evil at work here. Think for yourself. Do your research. Soul search. Consider what’s right and wrong not just easy and what is popular.

    Think like an American Patriot rather than a Sheeple.

    Great comments and discussions lately. Appreciate it. Let’s keep it going.

    Had lunch with five co-workers yesterday and current events came up. I mentioned “Antifa” and only one knew what “Antifa” was. Folks – that is a big problem. They all have heard about the racists in Charlottesville but only one knew about the other groups there.

    Excellent evidence the MSM’s agenda is being played well.

    Here’s a question that GG58 has brought up several times and I’ll throw it out there now. I don’t think it has been satisfactorily answered and I cannot say I have the answer. At least not completely.

    How do we get organized?

    Yes – that’s it. I’m talking Patriots. I’m talking the anti-Antifa. I’m talking those who wish to take this country back.

    While the Left is organizing, creating flags, raising money, getting training, and making progress – what of the Right? It’s not happening at least I’m not seeing it. Sure – Trump won the Presidency. It’s easy for folks to walk into a booth and vote in complete privacy. What about protesting? What about standing up for whats right and being heard? What about fighting for the country you believe in?

    As stated I don’t have the answers. I question whether the organization can be done to any national level or even state level. Why? The Progressive Left as a group is much more single-minded in their beliefs and desires. On the Right things like “principle”, “rights”, and “laws” have meaning. The Right have various opinions and while although similar – they are different and many stand on principle without a willingness to compromise. With that said – the Right remains unorganized or at least compared to many on the Left.

    The answer is out there. I can tell you many on the Right fear being too outspoken as they may be paid a visit by law enforcement. I’ve had people email me and send me messages saying “be careful” with how I say things and what I may suggest. First Amendment, right? There are many out there speaking MUCH more radical than I ever have. I’m not worried.

    How about the renewal of The Tea Party movement?

    Maybe.

    Well, my efforts to unplug from politics for a couple weeks failed miserably. The situation in Charlottesville and pathetic responses to Trump’s comments regarding it are driving me crazy:

    “We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides.”

    “Racism is evil. And those who cause violence in its name are criminals and thugs, including KKK, Neo-Nazis, White Supremacists, and other hate groups are repugnant to everything we hold dear as Americans. Those who spread violence in the name of bigotry strike at the very core of America.”

    Somehow the MSM, Liberals, and RINO’s are finding that Trump failed to appropriately respond and place blame in the events in Charlottesville.

    Unbelievable.

    Appreciate the positive comments on how the site is going. Trying to get it a little more polished and organized. If willing those on social media I would appreciate your sharing of posts on Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, Instagram, Google+, etc. If you are a member of any prepper Facebook groups sharing there would be great. Sharing posts in survival & preparedness forums is also a way to spread the word. If 1776PatriotUSA is to get taken to the next level – I’m not the one who will take it there. It will be you.

    The section at the bottom below the posts has been developed over the past couple weeks. Someone asked how long it had been there. I’ve tried to find a way to show my Instagram feed and this is the best way so far. I’m an Instagram junky.

    Lastly, I am an avid Audible user. I listen to audio books every single day and over the last year or so have “read” more than 50 books all thanks to Audible. Just finishing up What’s Left of My World. Very good. As I finish each book and move on to the next I’ll change the image at the bottom of this website.

    Charlottesville: The unfortunate situation in Charlottesville is the result of a certifiable nutcase. Every political party has their nut cases and these racist white nationalists are no different than their Antifa siblings.

    It’s worth noting that those of us who believe we are on an inevitable path towards a second civil war – or an American Reformation – are observing this event as just one that will go down in history as the footsteps to bigger battles.

    Also worth noting Trump came out and condemned the violence and the hate – while Obama sought understanding for the BLM movement and destructive protestors in Ferguson. The hypocrisy is overwhelming and the #fakenews ignores it.

    The uproar over the Sig P320 “can fire when dropped” report is ridiculous. A problem? I guess – especially if you frequently drop your pistol at just the right angle with just the right pressure. It will be fixed. The origin of the insanity are those people upset that Sig was awarded the military contract in the first place. Don’t like the Sig? Don’t buy one.

    I have to say the ability to use the P320 as a pistol or a grenade is pretty useful feature though!!  🙂

    FYI – I shot a few rounds Saturday out of the Taurus PT-111 G2 9mm as I head towards 2,000 rounds. One of the ammo choices was the Winchester Train & Defend hollow point as pictured below. It has a fairly large hole in the hollow point and was pretty sure it would not feed. Results? No problem. 25 rounds was the limit of the test but every round fired.

    North Korea: Can’t help but have this on my mind a bit but I’m not overly concerned. Maybe that is a bad sign as there’s been numerous things I’ve been on “high alert” about and nothing transpired.

    Flight time for a missile to go from North Korea to Guam = 14 minutes.

    Completed my latest AR pistol build. Had an issue with getting the bolt catch pin inserted. It just wouldn’t go. Had to “repeal and replace” it with a new pin. I purchased some special tools off eBay to help with that installation and it went much smoother.

    Lightweight AR Build Update: I have almost all the components to put together this latest project. This is certainly a budget build so really curious what the weight will end up being. 5 pounds is the goal but not sure how close I’ll get. Standard M4 weight at around 6.5 pounds shaving 1.5 pounds is doable but we’ll see.

    I’ve seen many stories of people who use wood to cook and heat with – via open flame – developing respiratory issues. Stories out of Venezuela are confirming this issue as well. The constant breathing of smoke creates a raspy voice and eventually breathing issues.

    I haven’t been promoting GearBest.com recently because….well….just because. I haven’t ordered anything from them in a little while so not much to say. They are still a great source for certain items to save some money if willing to wait on the shipping. For those not aware GearBest.com primarily ships products directly from China. Don’t want to buy Chinese products? No problem. There are many products that cannot be purchased as American-made. So rather than buy a 10,000 mAh backup charger from Wal-Mart I order direct from GearBest and save.

    I actually just ordered a 10,000 mAh mobile battery bank. I have several of these in packs, cars, etc. My kids love ’em.

    I helped my youngest with a science fair project a few years ago and we tested several brands of batteries. I discovered that the Member’s Mark battery lasted longer than all the others. Most expensive doesn’t mean the best.

    News just broke that North Korea has now miniaturized at least one nuclear warhead which expands the threat potential. It seems like they have advanced so fast so quick. Throwing my tin foil hat on would have me use words like “false flag” – so I won’t do that. I just hope cooler heads will prevail. If any military action takes place North Korea could reign pure hell on South Korea.

    A dangerous event is occurring. Not only do we have Liberals in the form of Antifa and other swine spewing hate and violent talk – I am seeing a movement with Conservatives in a similar fashion. Folks – I never promote violence except when common sense requires it in the self-defense of one’s life – or the protection of another. The constant upping of rhetoric to new heights is inflaming division and leads us in the direction of the coming American Reformation.

    When I was a teenager I loved watching Chuck Norris and other action movies. Watching them now I find myself constantly criticizing the ridiculous tactics displayed. I just need to relax and enjoy the movie.

    Hunting season is fast approaching. Typically a buddy of mine is a member of a hunt club and my son and I tag along around Thanksgiving. This year he did not join. I’m not real keen on tracking over public land with every Jim Bob and Uncle Cleatus kneeling behind tree’s chugging down some Jack. If I don’t find another person to take me on private land I’ll likely go to Georgia to my brother’s place. Out of state costs would be $130 plus $8.00 each additional day. Would make for a fun trip. He has 40+ acres.

    The prepper definition of the word “tangibles” –

    A physical item which when owned provides security and advantages to the owner in the event of some type of disaster.

    Typically tangibles are things like food, water filters, firearms, ammunition, tools, fuel, firewood, etc. Many believe in investing in tangibles rather than non-tangibles such as stocks, bonds, and mutual funds.

    A friend at work took his CWP class over the weekend. He recently bought him and his wife their first gun – a .38 Special revolver. Excellent choice. The .38 Special revolver is rarely discussed as a self-defense tool but excels in that arena. Most self-defense situations are at very close range and last a matter of seconds.

    For the more experienced shooter the simple and near perfect reliability the revolver makes so much sense.

    It’s interesting the number of people who have expressed their “dissatisfaction” with my stance on transgenders in the military. I am being told that they have lost transgender friends in combat. Well – it is what it is. I’m offended by a great many things and the disallowance of transgenders in the military – or a Tweet – is not on the list. I should be asking them if they were offended all the years Obama didn’t allow them to serve either.

    Watched the movie The Circle starring Tom Hanks and Emma Watson. It was very good. The movie provides a realistic glimpse into the not too distant future where technology – offering safety and security – invades peoples lives to the point that NOTHING is private.

    The garden is almost over. Okra continues to produce as well as a single dying cucumber plant and one zucchini plant. Will pull almost everything up this week and throw in the compost bin.

    It’s interesting that nowadays prepping is far more accepted than prior to 2008/2012 time frames.

    45 degree AR sights: A question was asked on a Facebook AR-15 forum as to whether or not 45 degree offset sights were good or not. My own opinion was that no – they were more of a fad or “tacticool” than anything. Of course, I was attacked immediately which is why I rarely comment on these sites.

    Sure – they have a use. My answer was too general I know but this was FB and I had no reason to invest my time into a complete answer. For a very specific use, they could be beneficial. For the average AR unless substantial training will be applied to this setup I don’t think it’s worth it.

    Now – a high magnification scope mounted on an AR or any other weapon system doesn’t lend itself well to CQC. That is where these sights could come in handy. Beyond that – I’ll pass.

    I swear I can feel Fall in the air.

    So I like the way my Condor T&T EDC kit came out. Riding in the back of the Jeep it and all its contents will be there if needed. I am looking at changing out my Get Home Bag from the backpack version featured in the Projects section to more of a shoulder bag. My typical distance from home is 20 miles or less at any given time. Lighter is better for me.

    Other than building AR’s I have put a stop on purchasing guns….at least for now. The money equation isn’t adding up. I would really like to get a Sig P320 and get some trigger time with it. We’ll see.

    So the DOW hits a record 22,000. Get ready folks. There is a correction coming. It may be in a month. It may be in three years. It’s coming and will be BIG. The stock market is inflated to 22,000 and nothing but HOPE to keep it up.

    Took off Monday and Tuesday from work to get a few things done. As usual failed to complete as many projects as desired. My youngest and I did pick up some fishing supplies on clearance at a local store and went out on the river Tuesday afternoon.

    I used to criticize those that stated they refused to vote as it really didn’t make any difference. While I have not gone completely to the Dark Side it is pretty apparent that getting a full Republican majority in Congress AND a Republican President has not created “change we can believe in.” At least not yet.

    It’s pretty pathetic. The tremendous ideas that have come out of the Conservative movement should be passing left and right – rather than continuing to be just ideas.

    Let’s remember the three Senators who voted against the Obamacare repeal:

    Collins(Maine)

    Murkowski(Alaska)

    When I think back to the YK2 end of the world prediction I cannot imagine how disappointed some people were at 12:01AM when nothing – not a thing – happened. It’s not that I am suggesting that most people wished for bad stuff to happen but the massive build up to that time – and then nothing.

    I came across a guy on Facebook who criticized my purchasing of alkaline and lithium ion batteries. I stock up on A LOT of them. He basically said that I was wasting my money as I should ONLY buy rechargeable batteries.

    I have found that preppers fall into a few categories. The “hardcore” all in or “you might as well kiss your ass goodbye” type. If you do not have XX gun and XX years of food – well-  you’re just a wanna be.These are the same folks who will NOT live their life and experience all that the world has to offer because they BELIEVE something might happen. It MIGHT happen.

    I don’t fit into that category. People have predicted DOOM for hundreds of years and as far as the apocalypse – not happened yet. Now tomorrow is another day and threats continue to exist and build so I prepare. I also live my life and enjoy going to the movies, kayaking down the river, and buying my alkaline batteries.

    By the way – I have rechargeables as well.

    PlayOn Cloud Service: I mentioned this past Saturday I have started using the PlayOn Cloud service as part of my entertainment efforts without cable or satellite. It is working extremely well. It may seem a little weird but I have a digital entertainment library as part of my long term preps. An entire library of movies, TV shows, and music to be viewable on tablets and TV’s.

    Fantastic weather this past weekend. Cool mornings and mid to low 80’s during the day. Saturday took a trip down the river in our kayaks with some friends. Great trip. Went to a new restaurant that opened up in the river district.

    Sunday the wife and I went to a local historic landmark also involving the Catawba River. Very interesting reading about how commerce and transportation of goods were handled on the river. I often think if I had the chance to go back in the 1800’s and see how life was lived I would. It would be so interesting.

    Recent Preps – Had a prepper friend of mine who recently moved pass on a bunch of canned goods and assorted supplies to me. This included some camo jackets, pistol bag, and even an old Midland CB.

    PlayOn Cloud: For those of us who have given up cable and satellite and still want to enjoy movies and TV have several options out there. I recently discovered PlayOn Cloud. I am just starting to mess around with it. I can “record” movies and shows from my Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime account among others. The cost is .40 cents per recording and they often have sales which drops the price down to .20 per record. All recordings are downloaded and can be viewed on any multimedia device including most Smart TV’s.

    The River: Have spent a good amount of time already this year kayaking. Heading out today as well. I hope to see a big Alligator Gar on one of these trips.

    Coupons: The wifey and I have recently got back into couponing. A local lady sells coupons which provides us quite a time saving opportunity. Stocking up on some essential cleaning and sanitation supplies inexpensively so far.

    GUNS & STUFF: 

    I promote Mid State Firearms frequently and for good reason. Not only do they help support 1776PatriotUSA but they have some really great products. For my upcoming lightweight build I looked all over the Internet for a pencil-barreled upper and struggled finding one that would fit my budget. I contacted Mid State and asked if they would build me one as they did not have one as a stock product.

    Recently had a response on an FB post that read something like this…..

    “If you cannot light a fire and keep it going in a blizzard you are not prepared. If you do not train in the most extreme conditions then you are not prepared.”

    I totally disagree and this is what I would call “snobbish” at a minimum. This goes right in line with the thinking if you cannot afford a Daniel Defense firearm then you have junk and might as well just bury your head in the sand. Same if you cannot process your own deer from field to plate – well, you’re just going to end up a statistic in ANY scenario.

    Ridiculous.

    We all have limitations. We all have perspectives for our preparations. I would never tell someone that has built up a solid one month supply of food they are simply unprepared and might as well pack it in. “Great job!”. would be my response.

    Many out there who have given up on preparedness or slowed their efforts to an almost crawl fail to realize the threats that exist daily.

    Cyberterrorism continues to be a major threat. The electric grid could be taken down by determined individuals via several main substations. It would take quite a coordinated effort but it is possible. A solar flare could create havoc with our communications systems as well as the national grid. The financial system could collapse due to any number of reasons.

    Worst of all: Elizabeth Warren could be elected President. Oh my!

    The corruption in the DNC is massive. Hillary’s servers, smashed phones, destroyed hard drives, leaked questions trying to keep Bernie from getting the nod, a few dead people with questionable ways of how they got that way, etc.

    Time is flying by. Well over half the year is gone. I cannot begin to imagine what will happen the rest of the year(or next 5 years for that matter).

    How important is it to know who may be a prepper in your area? How about a criminal? I have mentioned area intelligence – or community intelligence before. It is something I have been reading quite a bit on. Consider your retreat location. What if you failed to be aware of a “compound” 10 miles away from it. This compound is manned by 20+ people who have somewhat similar thoughts as yourself that some bad times are ahead. Is that important knowledge?

    I think so.

    Beyond the knowledge of the people themselves, understanding what resources are available and where they are at is important. Look around a bit. There are often solar panels in numerous locations. If there is a solar panel – I would almost guarantee there is a battery or batteries.

    Safety Manager at work was throwing away medical supplies due to being expired. In particular, these were Triple Antibiotic Ointment individual foil packs. Of course, I scoffed them up.

    This heat has really kicked into high gear. Newer cucumber plants are taking it while squash is begging for mercy. Wifey is tired of all the tomato’s and given up on picking them. Given an SHTF this would not be so as watering would be performed much more frequently and tomato’s attended to with no issues. Since all is good the garden is on its way out for the summer. One of the most successful I’ve had in 14 years. Looking towards Fall planting and garden maintenance.

    Fairly soon I will be taking a week off from publishing the daily “From the Desk….” posts in order to finish my new book – “The No BS Survival Plan”. With all the things I have going on I cannot find the time to get me over the edge and complete it.

    This will be a short one as Internet access is sketchy. Severe storms have rolled through the area causing power outages throughout the area. One positive is the temperature dropped from a high of 95 degrees to 75 degrees.

    It is insane that so many in the Black community continue to vote Democrat and believe the narrative that Republicans are racist. The Liberal policies of the Democratic party do nothing but enslave…while Conservative policies create economic freedom and prosperity.

    Gas prices are at a 12 year low. Although I have seen stories crediting Trump this has little to do with the President – or any President. It has to do with supply and demand.

    Kayaking Sunday morning: HOT!!! Lot’s of sunblock. Exactly – sunblock. I am currently assembling a new EDC kit and almost done. After today I decided sunblock is absolutely something I need in it.

    My turn…..

    Guns, Ammunition – Walking through a few local shops I cannot help but get the feeling that I’m going to look back at this moment in time – at some point in the future – and think, “Why didn’t I stock up more and take advantage of these low prices?”  While there seems to be very little likelihood of any kind of significant gun control or ammunition/magazine shortage it was really not that long ago when supplies were short and everything was expensive. I kicked myself back then for not having more.

    Trump: The sometimes ridiculous Tweets made by Trump and the shake-ups in the White House are not good for this Administration – nor the positive movement of “draining the swamp”. While I fully realize this Administration is quite different than any other and outside the mainstream political beltway it distracts from what is important. Also – the RINO’s in Congress who are standing in the way of what they were voted in to do are certainly not holding true to what the voters want.

    .300 Blackout: I’ve come to the conclusion that I will never own a .300 Blackout. While I understand the need for various calibers with different ballistics the risk involved in mixing two calibers within the same magazine and firing systems is just not worth it. No criticism for anyone else who likes it.

    The “Elite” are Preparing: I’ve seen these kinds of headlines for years and used to take not. Now? It seems like more of a recycled headline to grab attention. Wait – is that what I just did?

    The American Patriot….. DON’T MESS WITH US!!!! We believe in the Constitution. We respect what the Founding Fathers started and the sacrifices they made. We believe this country is great and has stood for freedom and independence for years.

    We believe that evil….evil men….have gained power and created generations of dependent sheeple who haven’t a clue as to what is really going on. These are career politicians.

    We believe that fundamental change is NOT what this country has needed….we were great to start with. We need to return to that which the Founders intended.

    We believe in smaller government and bigger freedom and choices for all.

    We believe that common sense should prevail within a government of representatives of the people rather than special interests and self-preservation ruling the day.

    We believe in LEGAL immigration and a controlled border. We believe that we need to take care of ourselves here at home first AND then, only then….provide aid to our neighbors around the world.

    Lastly….we believe that if you mess with THESE United States of America we will unleash a wrath of such violence and destruction that just the thought of challenging the United States will cause chills to travel down spines around the world.
