Ran into a newbie prepper with an AR loaded with “tacticool” stuff. Drives me crazy seeing a nice AR with 5 pounds of stuff mounted all over it. While it may be fun to customize a gun if it is truly going to be used for self-defense/defending the property look at what is on it. Engaging targets accurately, quickly, and repeatedly is important. How you look doing it doesn’t matter.

For fun? No problem.

For real situations? Problem.

My turn…..

• I’ve not had cable or satellite now for about 3 years. Between Netflix, Hulu, and bootleg movies and TV shows I really haven’t missed it. I spend about $50 per month on services and digital media purchases. I use Roku boxes mostly. I just signed up for a trial for Hulu Live. Hulu Live allows for live streaming of several TV channels. This is similar to cable. So far I really like it especially as I can watch Fox News. All my Roku boxes are too old to load Hulu Live so I picked up an Amazon Fire Stick – which I love. As a Prime member, I can access a ton of entertainment in the Prime library.

• Looks like SOMETHING might – maybe – possibly – pass through Congress. No big deal. Just the largest tax cut in US history. We’ll see.

• Is the creation of a “zombie” possible? I mean, there are concoctions in Haiti that slow the heart rate to the point that people appear to be dead – and then rise again later. We’ve had people trip out so bad on drugs they actually eat people. If some “mad scientist” had the tools and know-how I suspect they could design a drug to create the equivalent of a modern-day zombie. Possibly they would not feel pain thus they would just keep on going until their central nervous system is no longer functioning or the heart stops beating. Hmmm…….

• Pick up a Mora knife. Man – this thing is incredibly sharp. For around $12.00 it is a great deal.

Monarch 230-grain 45ACP rounds are sold by Academy Sports. I’ve shot a few hundred rounds through my Springfield MC Operator 1911 with great results. Accuracy and reliability are on par with more expensive ball ammunition I’ve shot. So far so good so I’ll keep buying.

This is BRASS ammunition. I have never shot the steel-cased 45ACP variant.

Typically found for $18.99 this is a great round for most any wallet(or purse).

Although I have my doubts we may just be seeing an actual change in political climate across the US. The accountability of men involved in sexual assault – although I suspect there is much that is made up or at least exaggerated – is a step in the right direction. Interesting that at least to this point it involves mostly the Progressives.

Haven’t heard of any action in Congress regarding gun legislation until just recently. A bill is actually moving through the House of Representatives to EXPAND gun rights – rather than take them away. A national Reciprocity Bill has been introduced to create a situation in this country with CWP like drivers licenses. I think this would be a very positive step in the right direction.

Had the passenger-side brake of Project Cherokee lock up the other night. During my lunch break had to go jack it up, remove tire, and soak it down with lube. Seems to have broken free. Hoping it will make it home tomorrow and then will work on checking everything out.

Ordered mylar bags and oxygen absorbers. As I am looking at goals for 2018 food storage is a major one. While I feel well off in the food department I’ve realized there may be additions to my group I’ve not planned for. My older son has a girlfriend he would not leave and would want to bring her to the retreat.

With that said order 5-gallon mylar bags and absorbers. The plan is to fill up another 6-8 buckets with rice and screw on gamma lids. I’ll do a couple more with beans and maybe a couple other things. Also planning on taking one bucket and use for spic and herbs.

Food is very inexpensive right now and so critically important. No better time to stock up than now.

Gun magnets can provide a solution to a problem you didn’t even know you had! A simple $12 magnet can be mounted just about anywhere – including your car.

I used to keep my pistol in an armrest which is not uncommon and a decent way of carrying. I bought a gun magnet and relocated it to the steering wheel for much faster deployment.

Check local laws to make sure your method of carrying is lawful.

Information is power. Consider the ability to track threats in the United States, your region, State, and community. One example of this would be gang activity. Watching gang activity trends over time could provide good intelligence and indicators for area awareness. How about Antifa or Alt-Right activity? Break-ins within the community? Assault? Rapes?

I’ve been looking at ways to gather this information and then track it via maps.

It may be today such information is not immensely important but one day it may be.

The trend towards “grippy” textures being added to pistols for better handling is definitely a positive one. While the ability to hold a gun may not seem like much of an issue at the range but when the sweat starts pouring and grips get wet things can get slick.

Magazines are a bit behind on the trend. “Stippling” can make a huge improvement in retention and it can be done at home with a simple woodburning kit.

Set up a fan to move the fumes away as burning plastic isn’t exactly healthy to inhale. Pretty rewarding doing this yourself.

I’m in the process of testing a new flashlight. Those that have read my numerous flashlight reviews know I prefer those that turn ON and OFF. All of the strobe and multiple brightness levels and SOS functions are not needed in most cases. ON and OFF is ideal for me.

It will be a couple weeks before I know if I can recommend this light.

Starting next week going to go back to the normal posting schedule I have been doing for months. I can see how often posts are viewed and since I started publishing the second article in the afternoon very few people are seeing them. I may republish a couple of them. So – I’ll go back to publishing all posts each evening around 9:30 pm.

Over the long upcoming weekend, I plan to finally make some dramatic improvements in my organization. I’ve slowly been working on it but need to really move forward. This coincides with turning part of my garage into a gym. The lack of organization certainly effects the ability to see holes in my preps.

Saw an interesting discussion on BOB(bug out bags) versus GHB(get home bags). Some were saying they were the same thing while others differed on opinions. I have always looked at a BOB as a longterm resource – think heading for the hills and not coming back. Supplies for shelter, cooking, food, etc. would all be included. For a GHB this would be lighter with fewer supplies. The goals is to get you home quickly.

I imagine if the trip to “get home” was a great distance both kits would be similar.

In the end, my point is call it whatever you want. Just have it.

Over in the 1776 Telegram group, there has been some discussion related to rechargeable batteries. I thought I was pretty good in that department but compared to some others I pale in comparison. I have several chargers for different batteries but really want to get a couple Nitecore chargers that can charge all that I use.

Well, “Project Cherokee” is officially on the road. While it remains a piece of crap it is now a legal piece of crap with two new tires on the back. The original front tires were HORRIBLE – dry rot, smooth tread that screamed the need to slide across water, and constantly going flat. I threw a couple of Goodyear Wrangler Radials on it for $195. Not bad.  Had a neighbor give me a brand new battery for it. So far it is working though it is slightly underpowered when it comes to CCA.

I tested the 4×4 and it is working as I expected. Since the Cherokee sat for a couple years+ you never know. Preevious owner installed a brand new transfer case about a year before he parked it. Should last. Keeping up with oil usage as well as water. Oil pressure is running high. Thinking of trying a “MMO Clean Out”. Basically, drain the oil down two quarts – and replace it with Marvel Mystery Oil. Run it for a couple days then do a complete oil change. Sludge and “crap” should break free with the lower viscosity. At least that’s the plan.

There is a case in California where a man went on a killing spree using an AR-15 he built. It is being reported that this was based on an 80% lower and used to skirt around the law as he was not allowed to own firearms. Those of us who have bought 80% lowers – I can see a time in the not too distant future when they will no longer be available. No link as I do not want to improve their Google rank.

I can understand the need to express oneself and take a stand – or knee for that matter. That is after all the premise of the 1st Amendment of our Constitution. Let’s remember that the 1st Amendment protects free speech from being controlled by the government. It does NOT provide the right to go up to your boss and call him an asshole. It does NOT provide the right to make a scene in a restaurant and not get kicked out and asked to never return. There are consequences for actions – even if you have the right to take those actions.

Those who say Marshawn Lynch and the rest of the NFL players have the RIGHT to take a knee, sit – whatever – during the National Anthem are 100% correct. No government agent nor police will come arrest them. Their right to take that knee, however, does not extend to being held accountable in the court of public opinion. Based on the NFL ratings the misguided appear to be losing.

My own opinion is these weasels can go suck golf balls. Well, that’s a nice way of saying it. They are spoiled and living in a reality that the most of us cannot begin to identify with. Possibly it is guilt causing them to act out. Don’t know. Don’t care. I continue to protest the NFL by not watching as the leaders of the league remain guilty of coddling these kneeling fools. When the league takes a stand – this fan will return.

As to the issue of racial inequality and injustice, I say welcome to the real world. Bad things happen. This isn’t a perfect world and no amount of kneeling will create a Utopia. There is a problem in this country where people are judged based on their skin color. That is a fact. It’s also a fact that racism exists on both sides of the color spectrum and always will. It needs to improve however kneeling against the very country that made you millionaires and affords you freedom’s most of us can only dream of is not the answer.

I’ve never understood the idea of “hate crimes”. If I get the hell beat out of me I want the group of guys that did it held accountable. Their motivation should not matter. Consider that for a moment. You are assaulted and the predator receives 5 years in jail for the crime. Your neighbor – who happens to be gay – gets assaulted in the same manner and his predator receives 12 years. The additional 7 years is due to the fact the crime was motivated due to the victim’s homosexuality and being a member of a protected status.

These laws were developed in an effort to not curb behavior but earn votes and gain donations. A politician sponsored such a law to please special interest groups and have the ability to anyone who disagrees much be racist, homophobe, etc.

Truth doesn’t matter much today. Truth appears to be related to perspective rather than facts, logic, and common sense.

Utilizes a technology the parent company of the product uses to make reusable glow sticks. This looks very useful. The Kickstarter shows a keychain light that includes the glow in the dark capability as well as a built-in bright LED. I’d love to have this in the middle of the night as finding the keys would be so easy with that glow in the dark feature. An included whistle attachment is perfect for grabbing the kids attention at the playground.

Growing up I used to think a lot about what it must have been like back in the “Cowboys and Indians” days. I’d sit along a riverbank and wonder if goods were transported down the river to market. Driving through a town I’d dream of what the area looked like before buildings were erected. I imagined a life so natural. The lack of cars, fences, electricity, grocery stores, microwaves, phones, air conditioning, heat, etc.

No TV or video games. No Internet and no awesome blogs. No Facebook. No Twitter.

No Maxine Waters or Hillary Clinton!!!!

Getting better and better.

No noise pollution. No smog. No airplanes flying through the night sky.

Of course, the average life expectancy was less than 40 years old. This means I would likely be dead already.

Maybe living in modern times isn’t so bad after all.

Watched a documentary on Netflix showing several people on election day in November of 2016.

It’s interesting the cross-section of people all around the country from all different backgrounds. The absolute true beliefs their candidate is the right one. What is also very interesting are the reasons that people stated they were supporting Hillary – versus Trump.This documentary seemed to be very balanced in their coverage of people. Good job.

The Trump supporters mention policies and beliefs – with specifics. The Hillary supporters talk about how bad Trump is. That’s it.

The name of the documentary is “11/8/2016”.

When loading magazines – Where are your eyes looking? For most, looking at your hands while they insert rounds in the magazines is common.

I suggest changing that practice so you are always looking around and allow the loading of magazines to become instinct NOT requiring you to visually focus on the ammo and magazine.

Consider the tactical advantage of being able to load magazines and at the same time stay focused on a door or an area of land.

It just makes sense.

I recently got word from a knife aficionado that after complete and thorough testing the Schrade Frontier line of knives is excellent. I have to admit I was a bit surprised. He said he literally beat the hell out of these knives and they held up amazingly. His testing has resulted in broken knives in the past. Needless to say, I am looking at the line with increased interest.

Seems like the talk of gun control – including the banning of devices that replicate full auto firing – has died off.

My .02 cents: Gun oil is the lubricant designed and what works best for firearms. Motor oil is NOT designed for firearms. Will it work? Maybe. There simply is not a reason to use motor oil in place of the engineered lubricant meant and designed for the purpose – gun oil. Could there be an exception? Possibly Mobil 1 synthetic. Spending hundreds and thousands of dollars on firearms it seems to me skimping to save a few dollars on lubricant just doesn’t make sense.

Another unfortunate event where evil shows itself and the innocent are killed. If there can be any positive that comes out of the Texas church shooting is that a “good guy” with a gun likely stopped the continued slaughter. I’ve read several posts and comments around the net related to “bugging out” and “getting home”. One area that is often in debate is how far you can get in a day. Obviously, there are a lot of factors involved including fitness level, health level, shoes, terrain, threats, and of course distance. The average human can walk around 3-4 miles per hour. Simple math should equate how long it will take to get home, right? No – not really. Humans slow down dramatically when walking uphill and only slightly increase in speed when going downhill. That 3-4 mph is on flat even earth. Going across a field of grass with uneven mounds and a hole or divot here and there will drop that speed as well.

My turn…..

• I don’t hide that this website and my others help provide a bit of extra income for me. The reality is based on the number of hours I put in I’m making about .15 cents/hour. Guess I’m not too swift. Anyways – there is a formula many internet marketers use to earn money. It involves manipulation, baiting, and dishonesty. I just can’t do it – thus, .15 cents an hour. 😉

Some of the examples are so obvious to me I cannot have any kind of relationship with those folks anymore. Some would call me unrealistic and a fool. I just cannot take advantage of folks and play on peoples emotions. I call it like it is and how I see it. Period.

• The news that some big names in the Democrat Party are admitting Hillary stole the candidacy from Bernie Sanders – thus destroyed the integrity of our election process – is refreshing. What is not refreshing is she will not be held accountable as she should be. What should happen? Jail. Plain and simple.

• I’ll put up some reminders over the next few weeks but Paladin Press is closing its doors. They are having a HUGE sale clearing everything out. Good time to take advantage as once they shut down most of their books will no longer be available.

For longterm power outages, candles are an inexpensive solution. Excellent shelf life and easy storage make candle a staple which to stock up. My own preference are jar candles. They provide their own container and burn efficiently. Never leave a candle unattended….for obvious reasons.

One last comment on the whole “Free Kindle ebooks aren’t free” thing – it’s all about timing. My “From the Desk of….” posts go live every night at around 9:45pm.  All the listed Kindle books are free at that time. Amazon does not have any control over when the books are free and when they are not. The author decides that. Remember – I’m a Kindle book author.

So far in the month of October over 2,900 ebooks were purchased free as of Sunday morning. FREE. 65 paid Kindle books were also purchased which I would earn a small commission percentage(thank you!).

Timing is the difficult thing. Some of these books are free for 24 hours. Some are literally free all the time. There is no way for me to know. I take the time to post these free books pretty much every day as a service and to try to keep people coming back. The point with putting this here information out there is to dispel any myths that these books require a special membership – or they are free for some and not for others.

I’ve had this same problem over at FreePrepperEbooks.com. I actually stopped posting there much because of complaints that 1-3 days later they are not free anymore. I understand the same day complaints to an extent. I am going to start posting over there in the morning or midday daily. The books should stay free up until midnight at the least.

So this Saturday is it. November 4th marks the “civil war” Antifa is planning on starting and not stopping until Trump and Pence are out of office. I’ve said it before that we need not take the threat from an organized and well-funded enemy lightly – but I’m not expecting much this weekend. In those cities targeted by Antifa, there certainly could be significant disruptions to traffic and city commerce. Violence? Absolutely. It is absolutely recommended to NOT engage and avoid these areas.

The Wifey has a friend who is constantly complaining. Kids are bad. Husband is awful. Job sucks. Never enough time to do anything. Needs to lose weight. Wants to make extra money on the side. Blah blah blah.

This person is completely in a rut and has no motivation. She is doing nothing to reach her goals and to improve her situation. I’ve thought of going to talk to her and give her some direction but my honesty will likely be found offensive. She needs to decide what she wants and go out there and get it – with massive action and maximum effort.

• The stock market set its 71st record. There is little justification for the valuation. Hope and positive feelings are not criteria for the value and price of a company. It’s not going to last. Just something to keep in mind…..

• I’ll put up some reminders over the next few weeks but Paladin Press is closing its doors. They are having a HUGE sale clearing everything out. Good time to take advantage as once they shut down most of their books will no longer be available.

• It’s easy to forget that there are still American soldiers over in Afganistan and other countries putting their lives on the line for us. They fight to provide us the complacency to forget.

• I’ve been dealing with some severe writer’s block this week. It comes and goes a couple times a year. Work has been extremely stressful. Well – not for me but for many others so I get sucked into things. It’s all good just causes a bit of distraction from thinking clearly to write.

I have been an avid customer of Aldi’s for years. Great prices. a new store opened in my town called Lidl. SOME – but not most – of there prices are better than Aldi’s. They have incredible sales. Recently they had canned corn for .33 cents a can.

Started and took Project Cherokee out for a spin last night. Scored a free battery from a neighbor who works on cars to make some extra money. Definitely going to use this guy during the build process. Having to get the Cherokee on the road. Battery, tires, and a gallon of oil per week should keep it running for a bit.

2017 Federal deficit $666 billion dollars. Pathetic. I did not expect Trump to change anything when it comes to the National Debt. He barely mentioned it during the campaign. It will continue to grow and grow. The question is at what point does the economy find the National Debt level unsustainable.

I believe most Americans are fairly patriotic and decent people. Most – like 51%. From the majority of Liberals that I have talked to they are actually quite Conservative and vote Democrat because that is what their parents did and what they always have. Ignorant is a good word to describe them and it is not being mean it is just reality. They simply have not taken the interest nor the time to become educated on the issues.

YouTube is now banning video’s that show modifications to firearms. This isn’t a 1st Amendment issue as they can do whatever they want. It’s simply an anti-gun, Progressive, anti-Constitution and anti-Patriot issue. Just another piece of the puzzle that when all put together shows a picture of the Progressive Agenda changing America.

This, ladies and gentlemen – and GG58 – is why I think there will be an American Reformation. The division between what is so obviously right to many of us – and what is so obviously wrong to the others – is going to keep growing.
