Anyone else think that this “SHTF” we have been planning on for the past couple of decades actually started a few years ago? Anyone else just flat out frustrated it isn’t what we thought it would be – well, at least not yet?

There are so many things going wrong right now not only in this country but all around the world. I truly try to look at things objectively using facts and logic with a little common sense thrown in. I’m trying to see a path towards the recovery of freedom and general positive welfare for all of us. I’m trying to see a path where the United States can become financially responsible. I’m trying to see a way that the people in this country can come together and have common beliefs aligned with what this country was founded with. I’m seeing only a few extremely remote possibilities of that happening. I’d be laughed off the ‘net if I listed them.

If – and that is a very big IF – I’m right then what do we each do about it?

For me and MPG we live life and work to be as happy as possible. Next, we set goals and daily make decisions that lead us towards reaching those goals. We prepare accordingly.

Peanut Butter and Grape Jelly is one of my all-time favorite foods. Add a side of Fritos and we are talking about near perfection.

Talking with a few people some suggested that this inflation may be temporary. I seriously doubt it. The only way I see this reversing is if we enter a depression and we have deflation. Maybe…just maybe. I work as a Plant Manager for a manufacturing company. With that, I have huge exposure to the world of supply chains from varying industries as well as countries. Lead times have grown on many items from days to literally months. Suppliers are struggling to obtain certain ingredients and components needed to manufacture their products. Prices are rising multiple times per year. Everyone seems to be having labor shortages.

It’s real and with many issues involving food production, I have concerns about the empty shelves issue at the grocery store getting worse.

With the threat of cyberattacks, the importance of having a cash-based emergency fund is even more important. Having $1,000 sitting in the bank isn’t going to be good if you can’t access it. A “cash stash” easily accessible is best.

How much would you recommend? To me, I’m thinking to try to have a few thousand if you can afford it.

A dream I’ve had over and over again over the years involves my being in a house somewhere – and animals are outside trying to get in. At times I’m alone and other times with friends or family. Sometimes these animals are wolves, lions, werewolves, or wild dogs. I remember seeing a movie as a kid that had a family stuck in a house surrounded by lions. Think it stuck with me.

My favorite werewolf movie is Dog Soldiers. Those that have seen it will know its storyline is similar to my dreams.

Picked up 1,000 rds of .22LR at Wal-Mart. Once in a blue moon, I’ll come across some 00-buck, a box or two of .308 or .243, and some .22LR. Score!!

Unfortunately, all local shops are gouging the hell out of customers. I continue to see a box of 50 rds of .22LR for $10. Standard 115-gr 9mm selling for $28.99 a box. Brass .223 is running $13.99 a box. No limits as the ammunition is plentiful. I’d like to support my local shops but…….

I’m seeing more and more talk of civil war all over the internet. Division. Opposing views. Mandates. Forced “this” and forced “that”. Censorship. Tax hikes. Governors defying the Federal government. Governors doing many things they should have done long ago.  Lockdowns.

Let’s not forget just months ago a sitting President was removed from all social media. Removed. Silenced. Censored.

This is America. Home of the free.

This is one of those random thought posts. Typically I call them, “From the Desk of John Rourke.” Since moving into a camper full-time with my MPG there is no desk to be had. Kitchen table? Yeah.

Picked up an off-the-books AR lower the other day. Looking for a few more and that is proving difficult as most are not willing to give them up. I used to believe that purchasing firearms from private sellers was not all that important. Not so much anymore. With government intrusion on almost every aspect of our lives and that same government asking friends and families to inform on “extremists” they know having off-record firearms seems more logical now.

I mentioned something about a “Bigfoot Apocalypse” the other day and now I can’t get it out of my mind. LOL.

I’ve been out of the martial arts area for some time. Feel like it’s time to get back in it. Practicing some on my own would be a good start then traveling to visit my Balintawak instructor would be great. I’m going to be adding some basic stickfighting drills over in the membership area soon.

Members of the Patriot Brigade already know, but, we purchased a new camper and live in it full time. Life is good as we continue to work on our own American Exit Strategy. Living a fairly simple life as we reduce debt, save money – and live life to be as happy as possible is the plan.

I’ll be posting a separate article with details on the build, however, I will say I am very happy. The Recce Rifle is not overly heavy and is extremely accurate. The upper came from MidState Firearms and like every build I’ve done using their uppers, it’s impressive.

The vast majority of my AR’s have simple red dots. This one is with a magnified optic is incredibly easy to hit targets at range.

Life happens. Well, that’s a nice way of putting it. I regularly counsel people who are going through a rough spot and I repeatedly tell them, “Just keep moving forward. Just keep moving forward.” That’s a phrase I’ve said daily for more than 3 years as my life changed in more ways than I care to remember.

These past couple of weeks have been very stressful as work has been nuts. There are a ton of projects that are ongoing, being developed, and just need attention. Resources are scarce. We are also struggling to maintain production quotas as people just don’t seem to want to work anymore. Crazy.

So, I’m sitting here in my camper chatting with YOU and watching CON-AIR. Never been much of a fan of Nicholas Cage, but I like this movie.

Maine Prepper Girl is not feeling well. I fetched her some bread for toast and some saltine crackers. Neck rub to help with the headache. Yeah – I’m awesome.

Oh – gotta go check the clothes in the dryer. That’s about 100 yards away across the campground. Be right back……

Getting hungry. Thinking grilled turkey kielbasa with mixed vegetables.  Time to light the grill, prep the food – and create a masterpiece.

POLITICS: Ever since the election I’ve spent very little time watching the news. When I have tuned in nothing much surprises me. The socialist agenda continues to be driven unapologetically and Biden looks as frail as we all suspected he was. There is no doubt he is being handled and controlled. There are numerous political “wants” from the Left that so far they have been unable to push through. Luckily for most of them, it appears that the chances of success are fairly low at least until the mid-terms. We shall see.

PEZ: PEZ was my favorite candy as a kid. As I sit here on the couch in the camper there are no less than THREE Pez dispensers within reach of me. Yeah – I’m 51. Age ain’t nuthin but a number!!

BUSINESS: I’ve been developing a store as part of 1776PatriotUSA.com. I’ve been hesitant to do this previously but if I am to grow the website – and the business part of it – a store is a natural part. Right now the Sawyer Bucket Kit’s are a major part. I’ve added some information USB’s which I’ve spent hours and hours putting together. My new Minuteman IFAK is something I’m really proud of. I’m working on a variety of products including digital downloadable items. BUT, guess what? Many digital items – some rare and expensive elsewhere – are available in the membership area.

It’s OK. I caught it in time. I think it all turned out just fine.

Last week was a long stressful one at work. Trying to relax this past weekend and will be traveling this upcoming one. I’ve purposely NOT watched the news, however, can’t help but hear all the talk on gun control.

The Left spouting antigun dribble is nothing new especially after some psychopath goes on a killing spree. With Democrat candidates for President calling for gun bans and confiscation this would have been a perfect time for politicians on the Right to promote the Constitution, gun rights, and destroy Liberal arguments with facts and logic. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. President Trump openly backed Red Flag laws and universal background checks.

Pathetic.

Even newcomer and Conservative favorite Dan Crenshaw has backed Red Flag laws.

If Trump backs any successful gun control legislation or laws via Executive Action his bid for 2020 will be an effort in futility.

Food. You hear that word and it likely conjures up visions of frustration from those trying to lose weight or images or a favorite meal(steak on the grill with squash and corn on the cob. Food storage is simply not sexy. If it was there would be magazine covers galore filled with images of canned freeze dried food and hard red winter wheat. Yeah – rice would be there too.

So – preppers frequently go out there and stock up on all the guns and ammo they can afford without giving food its due diligence.

If you have two AR’s, tons of magazines and a few thousand rounds of ammo – and a months worth of food:  you’re guilty.

The national debt continues its aggressive path upwards as we approach 23 trillion dollars. The government continues to spend money it doesn’t have. I’ve continued to explore alternatives to Facebook to connect with like-minded people as well as spread the word of this website. Yes – social media is an absolute requirement when it comes to marketing a business or any other income-producing entity that is internet based.

MeWe continues to be a leading alternative to Facebook. With their strong 1st Amendment policies and fairly easy to use interface the 1776PatriotUSA MeWe Group continues to grow. The exodus from Facebook continues as their anti-gun, Liberal agenda expands.

Actual gun confiscation has started in several states. Laws passed allowing gun confiscation based on apparent mental health issues are now providing law enforcement a means which to enter someones home and forcibly take their guns – when no crime has been committed.

Although the numbers are small and the vetting processes are substantial – this is a slippery slope to go down. My own opinion is we need to be expanding gun rights – not gun control. Many gun control laws on the books now should be removed allowing law-abiding citizens to acquire gun easier – not more difficult. With a Republican-controlled Congress and Presidency, this should be enacted. Unfortunately, the feckless leadership in the GOP are willing to expand gun control rather than stand for the 2nd Amendment.

I’ve been paying attention to many prepper groups on social media. It’s interesting how many of these groups have rules against politics, religion, and discussions of certain topics such cannibalism, prostitution, theft, and numerous others.

Although I have not been watching the NFL this year – my team is the New England Patriots. They will win the Super Bowl come February.

Jobless claims are at a 45 year low. This is great news for the economy and the American people.

Does it take money to be a prepper and prepare? Yes. The most important fundamental steps can be done fairly quickly and inexpensively. The three often mentioned “beans, bullets, and band-aids” can involve a little extra food & water, a pistol, and first aid kit. Expansion from there just continues the level of readiness.

Talking with a friend who is not a prepper they mentioned that there was a murder in their remote town not far from them. This is a very rare event that had many people scared. I mentioned that is the reason why I train and prepare. It’s not paranoia – it’s awareness.

Seems the 10mm is making a comeback. I’ve seen several pistols recently introduced in this expensive caliber. Remington has a longslide version of their 1911. Never had a 10mm but would like to get one someday.

Next month taking a jaunt several hours from here and will put together a kit to take with me. No issues with CWP reciprocity. Actually might do some shooting while I am away. Going to be gone for about 3 days. Good time to build a new pack and then leave intact for future trips.

I’ve always emphasized a lightweight GHB. Speed in transportation is the reason if on foot. On foot? That would suck.

There’s a lot of talk about the flu – and pandemics. While the pandemic talk is a lot of panicking it may not be at some point in the future. The season is very bad but pales in comparison to 2014-2015. It is reportedly getting worse so anything is possible.

Next town over from me 4 police officers were shot after a domestic dispute. What a waste. Regardless of my previous stance on the equipping of law enforcement like they are military – they should have the greatest protection possible. It’s not me putting my life on the line every time I respond to anything.

At the White House, a reporter was exited out after asking racially charged questions. Jim Acosta was basically accusing the President of being a racist – right to his face. I’d like to see him banned from the White House permanently.

I’m down 16 pounds so far. How have I done it?

Calories reduction. Increase in exercise. Mostly Paleo diet. Some days I am working out twice per day.

Someone asked me if I’ve been getting sore. The answer is “no”. Why? For me when I eat a high protein, Paleo diet I rarely get sore.

Fasting cardio – cardio on an empty stomach – has been the cornerstone of my workouts. Each day I weight train as well on a different body part.

Snow will be falling here in South Carolina today. People are panicking and the 1-3 inches we are getting will be gone totally within 24 hours.

The false alert of an incoming ballistic missile in Hawaii was certainly alarming – and embarrassing. What basically amounted to the push of a wrong button sent countless in panic mode seeking shelter. A good reminder though to have a plan – always.

Where to go? The family is away from each other who will get who? If normal communication goes down is there a backup plan? Lots of questions to ask now and get the answer before something bad happens.

Started working on the book edits. I have to go in and approve each individual edit manually so I can better learn how to write better. Time-consuming but valuable. Once the edits are complete the rewriting will begin. Focus: Book One of the trilogy. Need a new name as well. Hmmm……

Thoughts on Cast Iron Cookware: I’ve been using Lodge cast iron for years and love it. My problem is I don’t take care of them. Rust shows up and I have to scrub it off and oil it up. With a little care, they can last forever. A standard 12″ Lodge skillet is my favorite size.

So you want to make an EMP Proof Galvanized Trash Can? One thing that has to be done is to line the trash can to ensure no metal can touch the contents. One trick to line it with rolls of toilet paper. That way you have a storage of toilet paper AND EMP protection.

So here’s the deal: I am rewriting A Survival Story as a completely new book written in 3rd person and will be part of a trilogy. This will take an incredible amount of work thus the noticeable change to the posting schedule here. Some older posts will be being republished as well.

Writing a prepper-fiction book is quite out of my element. I have an experienced post-apocalyptic author assisting me and providing some guidance. Will it work? Time will tell but moving into the role as a serious author is something I am very excited about.

Although this is a new book with a new title the story will be based on the events of the original.

So – Oprah is looking to run for President. While many will scoff at the idea and think its ridiculous the same can be said for many of us that thought similar about Trump. She could do it. Will she? Time will tell but nothing would surprise me.

After quite a 2017 in politics, it is going to be interesting to see what 2018 brings.

So far I’m down 10 pounds in the last couple weeks. Calories have been cut way back. Eating mostly Paleo which equates to lower carbs. Workouts have gone well and intensity is increasing slowly.  Sundays I meal prep for the week to keep the diet on the right track. At 48 years old very pleased with how my body has responded thus far.

Spent much of yesterday going over my budget for the next 6 months. Financial improvement is one of my goals for 2018 leaning towards debt reduction and saving.

It can be difficult at these times of low unemployment and record-breaking stock markets to be concerned about preparedness. The focus on economic collapse seems to have fizzled out with many preppers. I’ve seen it first hand. While the stock market cranks out incredible gains – the world is becoming ever more dangerous. Are there reasons to cut back and lower your guard?

Ruger has come out with a new 9mm carbine  – The Ruger PC Carbine –  that is reminiscent of some of their past offerings. I’m sure it will be a great selling and being able to be taken down and stored away is a great selling point.

Running around $525 street price it is fairly affordable.

I like the 10mm cartridge. I’ve written numerous times about my desire to have a Glock 20 – someday. It may be more of a novelty than anything but I’ll have one eventually.

I’ve seen several new firearms coming out for the cartridge. Hi-Point has a carbine – and a few 1911’s have been released.

2017 is coming to a close quickly. Man, it has gone by so fast.

Managed to pick up some used weightlifting equipment. This included a multi-station weight machine that uses metal weights and cables as opposed to a weight stack, along with 280 pounds of weights. Also in the package received a punching bag  – the type you fill the bottom with water. $225 – not bad. I still need a squat/bench rack and an Olympic weight set. Still looking. Already had the stationary bike. Coming together.

There was a discussion in a forum I am a member comparing 16″ to 20″ barrel AR’s. One member was looking to build a good for long-term storage in a cache thus did not want to have any battery-operated optics. Typical ranges noted were less than 100 yards.

There were a lot of responses with most coming from the perspective of something they read on the Internet. While some opinions may be based on truthful and accurate information the overabundance of data points went way outside the scope of the question. Twist rate was brought up. Bullet weight was brought up. Velocity between .223 and 5.56 in each barrel length was discussed.

Seriously – it’s less than 100 yards. There are factors

Speaking of AR’s: I had mentioned previously someone asked me about building an AR for their property. Maximum yards around 300 with 100 yards being common. Age is a factor so eyesight is not getting any better. I took on the project and am building a 16″ upper(from Mid State Firearms of course). A 1-4X optic – possibly from Bushnell – will be mounted. This allows for closer shots down to 1X and further distance shots with a quick flip to 4X.

Almost any AR could fit the application but listening to the shooter this is what I decided on. I” take some pics and write something up when I am done.

The GOP Tax Bill has been passed. I watched President Trump and GOP Congressional leaders at their press conference and it was impressive. Although it was, for the most part, a show I was impressed with the appearance of unity. I can only hope this unity continues and more can be accomplished.

Very telling that not a single Democrat voted to reduce taxes in the United States. Not surprising – but telling.

AT&T & Wells Fargo announced bonuses and pay increases for their workers shortly after the passing of the Bill. AT&T stated that over 200,000 employees would receive a bonus of $1,000. Wells Fargo and Fifth Third banks announced bonuses due to the tax bill as well as increasing their minimum wage to $15 per hour.

Not a single Democrat vote. Not one.

The search for a Jeep Cherokee continues. Not much luck. Most of the ones I find have some type of mechanical issues and they are asking too much. May expand my search into some other vehicles. Currently looking for a 94′-00′ model.

When someone thinks of a “bug out vehicle,” some big 4×4 with knobby tires is usually envisioned. With many of these vehicles(like my Jeep Wrangler) getting less than 20mpg is the norm.

With fuel being such an important and vital commodity the “economy” car may make some sense as a bug out vehicle.

Possible Scenario: Making a trip while there are lines at gas stations getting 20 miles per gallons versus 30 miles per gallon. 15 gallons in the tank plus a 5-gallon gas can equate to 400 miles versus 600 miles range.

There have been a lot of stories going around about “UN troops” going to Chicago. Ladies and gentleman – this is a publicity stunt and the vast majority of the stories are set up as clickbait. Clickbait? Yes. Clickbait – if unfamiliar with the term – is generally an article with an unbelievable and attention-grabbing title. Often there is some tiny piece of truth behind it. This “Chicago Asking for UN To Help With Gun Violence” is a good example.

The mass power outage in Atlanta is a good example of the chaos from just one area losing power. The domino effect on transportation will be felt everywhere. Remember – it’s not just affecting passengers trying to travel but commercial planes moving product such as the US Mail, UPS, and Fed Ex.

Picked up an Anderson stripped AR lower on sale for $45.99. Great price. Now deciding what to build with it. Considering something different. Not really sure.

Well – Life Happens.

My older son had a driver run a red light and Jonathan t-boned him. He was banged up a bit but is OK. The accident was witnessed by a police officer so the blame was rightly placed on the other driver. He was driving my youngest sons 1994 Jeep Cherokee.

Project Jeep Cherokee is put on hold….for now.

The Cherokee will be totaled and I am waiting to hear what the payout will be. The plan is to buy another one . Hopefully, we will get enough to pick up a slightly newer model after the interior change but I’m not really concerned with that. A lift kit already included would be great. Of course, when I look around it is possible a different make and model might be found.

A budget 4×4 around $2000 leaves limited options and after working on and driving the Cherokee I am biased in that direction.

Think forward to 2020. How nasty is this next Presidential election going to get? Of course, we’ll have other elections on a State-level as a precursor.

Watching a documentary called “The Enemies Within” on Amazon Prime. Quite good.

It goes over a narrative of how the demise of communism in Germany and the Soviet Union led to a resurgence of it – merely in a different form. This new form is now called Democratic Socialism, Progressivism, and modern day Liberalism.

It is so obvious when you look at the language used by Communists decades ago and those who profess socialism today in mainstream politics – they are very much one in the same.

Another issue is so many in Congress with an (R) after their name fails to follow the Constitution and back many policies right in line with Communism. Of course, they spin the narrative so it “appears” they are on the right side of the issue when really they are just watered down communists.

• From the  – “You’ve Got To Be Kidding Me” File: A Congressman in California is wanting to BAN fossil fuel cars by the year 2040.  Seems like there are enough problems to solve that looking 20+ years in the future to predict the automobile industry

 

• Finally went and saw Justice League. If you are into the action-packed, superhero type movies then you will love this one. Awesome!

 

• So here is a question: Let’s say you had a friend who wanted an AR-15. You had a stripped lower and decided to build them one. The purpose of the “need” for the AR is the defense of property in the country. This is not city environment. Caliber must be .223/5.56.

With the issue of communication post-SHTF, there is not nearly enough discussion regarding listening. I’m just as guilty as anyone. In my own plans a “commo center” is set up with TV, internet/laptop/tablet, AM, FM, ham radio of various frequencies, CB, FRS/GMRS, shortwave, and a scanner. The vast majority of these devices are to gather intelligence.

No one knows exactly what will transpire. When it all starts the internet may remain for days or even weeks. Using a laptop or tablet could be very useful gaining information via local or regional news. AM/FM is certainly a viable source for information with many “all news” stations.

Of course, the old standby of two tin cans connected by a string is an option.

Many of us that write material for magazines, blogs, social media, or publish books do so not for the “big money” we get – but because we enjoy it.

With that said there are expenses involved and it is difficult to retain a high level of publishing without recouping some of those costs. Often this is done by taking on advertisers and sponsors. Oh – and our time is valuable as well.

In my own case, I am very particular who I develop relationships with. Over the last 8 years, I’ve been involved with some of the biggest names in the preparedness industry. Up until recently, it has been a mutually beneficial arrangement.

While I will provide no names I’ve had two businesses EVERYONE has heard of burn me recently. I put in a lot of work for these entities based on an agreement and then when it is time for them to pay me(very little, by the way) – nothing.

While I would do much of what I do just because I enjoy it – the amount of work I put in would drop by 90% if it was totally for free.

Just a little, tiny rant – totally free.

Started re-reading Day by Day Armageddon – one of my favorite books ever. It’s of the zombie genre however you don’t have to be a zombie fan to appreciate it. Written like a jounral detailing events day by day it is really a “can’t put it down” book.

Latest ridiculous conspiracy I have heard is this: The California fores that have been so destructive lately were started by….you guessed it….the GOVERNMENT. In fact they used high-tech very powerful lasers to start the inferno.
