Here is a place to share things you’ve been thinking about lately. What kind of things?

  • Recent accomplishments in preparedness.
  • Projects being worked on.
  • Thoughts on world events.
  • Recent purchases & recommendations
  • Current events related to politics, terrorism, crime – whatever.
  • Go on an adventure or have fun? Share it!

My turn…..

Preparedness: Irma is getting ready to slam Florida. All living in Florida be safe. If you were unable to evacuate I hope you have been able to find shelter or will do so soon. I know some of you have recently headed out or will very soon. Be safe.

Events like these provide justification for prepping. Being prepared is not being paranoid. It is not crazy. It is common sense.

If new to prepping consider using these natural disasters as motivation. Consider what would happen if you lost power for a few days or a few weeks. Where will water come from? How much food is available? How will you cook? Can you communicate with friends and family? What if you cannot get gas? What if you cannot get prescriptions?

While we sometimes joke about the coming “zombie apocalypse” there are real threats that happen every single day.

Prepare.

North Korea – EMP Threat: Being reported from numerous sources both domestic and overseas is that North Korea released a statement on September 3rd mentioning their ability to inflict massive damage to the United States via EMP.

Something for you…….

SURVIVAL TIP OF THE DAY: Re-purposing stuff rather than throwing it away can not only save money – but be extremely cool!!

JR, here’s my rant…..we evacuated from NE Florida on Wednesday. Lots of traffic and a few minor accidents seen along the way. Idiots who ran out of fuel….folks with no plans or ideas where they would go. As soon as Irma formed, we started packing and getting ready. We left friends behind who were riding it out at home or going to a shelter. Most likely they never had any plans to do other. Case of water and couple of jars of peanut butter is all they needed they said. Electricity is turned off, so I worry about them. Bet the next hurricane finds them unprepared again.
    Thanks

Scored a generator on Craigslist last week to round out preps. Nothing available in stores–assume inventories already shipped to TX and FL for good reason. Embarrassed I did not have that item covered before now. Wifey worried about flooding of lower level patio–said she wished we had some sandbags…..told her to check attic. Just another example of why she indulges my prepping. Prayers to all effected this week!!!

Well, the Miami natives connected to us made it as far as Georgia, but 2 couples in west/central Florida decided to ride it out. They sent videos of the downpour this morning, and I hope for their sake that’s all they get.

MC, I feel for the people in shelters, I really do, but I just read an article with a woman complaining that her shelter was only providing hot dogs and another who was upset that she had to eat pudding with her fingers. Given the sizes of the suitcases I’ve seen many people dragging around, didn’t any of them think to pack food or water?

Thoughts and prayers to all who are dealing with these storms.

Getting ready to purchase a polyethylene septic tank Capacity: 1500 Gallons
Size: 143″L x 55″W x 66″H to place in the ground on the property with approximately 3 or 4 feet of earth on top of it would make a good storage / root cellar and having 3 or 4 feet of earth on top of it gives you a sufficient Protection from radiation it will have ventilation powered by computer fans run off of solar power, not sure if I’m going to make the entry door from the top or coming in from the side I would think coming in from the side would be better protection, anybody have any suggestions
