A major part of my food storage program involves storing a variety of foods in sealed mylar bags with oxygen absorber and then placed in 5-gallon buckets. This is an EXTREMELY economical method for storing food.
I don’t know how many times I have been asked what size oxygen absorber should be used with different sizes of mylar bags. Figured I would go ahead and put this information out there:
Nice to have, thanks JR. Happy Thanksgiving.

Since I store in mylar bags in 5 gal buckets I use two hand warmers I get at Walmart. It is easier than bulk absorbers because I do a bucket or two every month. The hand warmers work great.
Thanks Verne. I have heard a lot of people doing the same thing. Excellent.
I’m wondering if I place one -100cc in a 32oz plastic bottle would it extend the freshness of white rice or dried beans. I also will place one 100cc absorber in my foodsaver bags of about 2.5 to 3 lb next chance I get access to one.
I am sure it would help Cole.
Absolutely Cole it would extend the life. You may not notice it as many store rice with no oxygen absorbers as rice is so dense little oxygen is present in a container that is completely full of rice.
WHat do you use and where did you get your Mylar bag sealer?
I’m curious

GG58 – I have purchased the vast majority of mine via Amazon. 1 gallon bags HERE. 5 gallon bags HERE. For sealing the bags I use an ironing board or my garage workbench and a clothes iron.
