The 10 C’s of Survival was developed by Dave Canterbury as a means to provide guidance for those who spend a lot of time in the woods. In the case of some kind of emergency, Dave offers this list to be able to stay alive. For those not familiar with Dave Canterbury he was once half the duo in the first few seasons of Dual Survival and owner of The Pathfinder School. He also has a very popular YouTube Channel with an emphasis on bushcraft skills.
Dave Canterbury’s 10 C’s of Survivability
I have tremendous respect for Dave Canterbury. He has so much experience and practical knowledge – who am I to question his recommendations?
Overall I think his 10 C’s is a very good guide to use when putting together most any kit – get home bag, bug out bag, vehicle kit – whatever.

If you like Canterbury, you’ll also like Dave pearson, Reallybigmonkey1 on YouTube, Funnier, and laid back and knowledgeable.
#6 should be candle light or “illumination”, #7 should be Cotton Bandanna mainly a 3ftx3ft type. Friend who has taken a bunch of his classes the unmentioned #11 he say’s of the 10 C’s is Comfort – ie snivel gear to make surviving just a little bit easier. Whether it’s a deck of cards, candy, gloves for example. In all reality this is how I design ANY gear I carry whether on a trip or vehicle bag. There is so much unnecessary garbage and weight one carries mainly because they think they “may” need it. It’s actually a fun game to play with oneself. Make a kit using ONLY the 10 C’s for your region.
Thanks for posting. Went to his site and downloaded his recommendations in each category.
If I could only bring one “C” along, that would be… Canterbury himself!
Good choice DC!!
