Guns like the AR-15, Ruger 10/22, 1911, and even the Ruger PC9 have many accessories available. These accessories allow the gun to be customized precisely how you want them. Nothing wrong with that. Far too often gun owners get these customizations confused with real utility. When people look at their guns for use in some type of defensive conflict, that confusion between utility and “cool” leads to unfortunate over-accessorizing.
Consider the AR platform: From a utility perspective, it’s a lightweight, relatively compact ergonomic gun that has benefited its user by providing excellent capacity, and good power all in a very accurate package. I’ve met numerous people who take what is a fairly simple to use firearm and add accessories like Mimi from The Drew Carey Show adds makeup.
I miss Mimi.
Me? For a “tactical” defensive AR give me a good red dot that holds zero(open sights are good too), a minimal flashlight(no more than 600 lumens), reliable mags, and a sling. Yup – that’ll work.
Hell – I’ll take one of these below any day…….

Maybe it’s just me being a bit old school.

Good post. The gun that I have for home defense is my break barrel single shot 12 gauge with an Olight magnetic flashlight mount and 6 00 buckshot shells in a holder on the butt of the gun. Now that’s old school. haha. I use it because I am proficient with it because I hunt with it.
Jason: For home defense nothing beats a flechette.
Chuck, I had to look that one up. haha. Let’s just say I have limited options for guns because I don’t own enough yet.
12 gauge pump with Aquila mini burden of shells.
For home defense just get Mimi to sit on the intruders after she is done verbally beating them into submission. They won’t stand a chance, just flatten the curve…a time honored practice these days.
Does anyone have any insight as to why there are so many mass shootings
lately?
I have my shotgun for home defense as well as a handgun and rifle.Arlene
PS Ticks are outrageous here this year .
