It used to be very cost effective to build your own AR-15. With the aggressive pricing today, complete factory produced AR’s can be had so cheap there is little reason to build your own – other than you want to. Advantages to building your own AR-15 range from putting together something unique which you cannot buy from S&W to designing/building an AR that is specific to its intended mission.
Many have chosen not to build their own AR’s as assembling all those pieces can be intimidating. The reality is for most builds it is a step by step process – much like baking a cake.
The two videos below show the process for both the lower and upper parts of the AR.
Time to have some fun!!!
Yup. Thinking about building a thumper in 450 Bushmaster but hadn’t thought to check for a pre-built. Thanks!
It is a lot of fun, especially when you have a few tools that are designed for the tricky bits. I suggest researching the best AR assembly books, get one, and look at the tool recommendations. There’s a couple of small tools when assembling a lower that make the tricky parts SO much easier. And please everyone be safe and wear eye protection to not shoot your eye out with a flying pin or stop…. The right tools also make repairs and maint a lot easier.
