    Over on the 1776PatriotUSA FB Group a question came up about having cash on hand and if it all comes crashing down would the government declare the US dollar to be worthless – and how long would that take. A good discussion followed however, I believe the premise of the question to be false from the start.

    Hey – we all have different beliefs but as one commenter put it they had “never heard of a country declaring its currency worthless.” I haven’t either and do not see any reason why it either could happen – or would happen.

    The value of that greenish piece of paper is largely what it is because people believe in its value. While I understand the effect of supply increase causing a potential decrease in value – it has not happened recently with the US dollar. Although prices fluctuate – much of what I buy today costs similar to what I paid 10 years ago. This is true even though massive amounts of money have been pumped into the system through QE.

    While other countries have seen substantial inflation when their government massively increases the money supply I think the United States with its sheer mass and complex societal and monetary system is able to absorb the additional funds. I’m no economic expert but an increase in the money supply of close to 50% from 2006 to 2016 is significant. The effect seems to not be – at least not yet.

    Re-reading all of the above not sure I am actually getting across what I am trying to say. The bottom line is you’re not going to wake up tomorrow and find the dollars in your wallet worth nothing. It’s coming – but it’s going to take more time.

    Here is a picture of the Vortex Crossfire II 1-4X scope I mentioned yesterday in my Patriot rifle review – with the laser on. I was able to exchange the laser and went ahead and mounted it. We’ll see if the TruGlo Micro Laser holds up. It is so tiny and lightweight I really hope it does.

    So – I go to a conference at my son’s high school. He is a senior and pretty much sucking and it’s possible he may not graduate in June. In reviewing his grades a teacher suggests that the lowest grade he will receive in this first semester is a 54.  I said, “Let me make sure I understand. You’re telling me that – although this may benefit my son – if he earns a 40 in the class the school will automatically raise it to a 54?” They confirmed and I told them “that is the most insane thing I have ever heard.” The older teacher reached out and touched my arm and said she totally understands my feeling on the matter while the younger teacher had a look of extreme dissatisfaction regarding my comment.

    This is just another example of the Liberal mentality “no one can lose and everyone’s a winner.” The reality is there are winners – and losers. If my son earns a 40 – then that is what he should get. You can learn from your failures and grow as a result.

    America is sick. This is just a symptom of the spreading infection that has set in.

    Going to do some work in the garden this weekend. Some may remember that I lost a lot of top soil and production last summer was about nothing. I’ve started building raised beds and also going to have a section in ground.

    Around my parts seeds can go in the ground as early as the beginning of April – sometimes sooner. Typically I grow a combination of seeds and transplants – and plant every week throughout April. If a frost comes along mid-April I risk part of my plantings rather than everything. That timed planting extends the growing season as well.

    I would like to find an older Panasonic Toughbook computer. These are hardened laptops built to be extremely durable for the military. They’re also fairly expensive.

    One of the most common self defense objects often just lying around is the lowly – stick. I studied Filipino Balintawak stickfighting for over 12 years. I have not attended classes in a little over a year but still dabble here and there. While there are a lot of flashy moves and cool techniques much of what is taught prepares the student for extreme speed in both defense and offense = as well as quick reflexes.

    Something else many who have seen stickfighting material arts is that most all techniques can be done empty handed.

    I’d love to get back into it.  I have tried teaching a couple friends but finding someone to make that commitment is not easy.

    I started reading 299 Days again. This will be for the third time. Book 1 is a bit on the boring side starting out but by Chapter 9 it starts getting good. One of the most realistic prepper-fiction books I have ever read.

    I can see many Republicans and Trump voters freaking out over Trump’s comments about a “compromise” regarding bringing forth an immigration bill. I’ve said it all along that rounding up 10-20 million illegals is impossible. Border security must be handled ASAP or the discussion of a possible immigration deal will increase the flow across our southern boarder.

    Holy Monday Batman!!! It felt like a barrel full of monkey’s trying to hump a door knob. It was horrible. Now to CRUSH the rest of the week and make it a distant memory.

    I own a Mossberg 930 Blackhawk shotgun…..and absolutely no gear for its support. I have plate carriers, vests, and LBE targeting the AR platform and backup pistols but nothing for shotguns. I need to change that.

    I’ve been looking at getting a Condor MCR4 Molle Vest, adding a couple Condor 25 Round Shell Pouch and a TAG Molle Shotgun Shell Rack. This would add up to approx 68 if all shell spots are filled and fit.

    Below is a similar setup with one missing Condor pouch.

    Trump decides not to attend the White House Correspondents Dinner. News media freaks as if he is the first President to do this. I have to say so far I am fairly impressed with #45. The Administration is not perfect by any stretch and a few missteps have been made but overall he is acting like an outside – just what we need.

    What is also happening is the Left – the “Loyalists” – are getting extremely motivated and organized. If you think people were against Obama and behind Trump you haven’t seen anything yet. It is going to be extremely difficult for Patriots to maintain the sense of urgency and the White House in 2020.

    As it has been mentioned numerous times – NOW is the time to prepare and get ready for a very uncertain future.

    People make mistakes. They make errors in judgement. People also change. 

    On Facebook in the 1776PatriotUSA Group page a women – 55 years old – posted a question asking for advice:

    It was recommended that I should post this question to the group here. What if you were convicted of a felony when younger, and cannot own firearms? When I was 20, I had a boyfriend that mugged a guy. When I refused to tell the police anything, I was also arrested and charged. So I cannot have firearms in the house. Or own any. What would you think would be the best alternative self-defense weapons? I was thinking about learning archery, and I have a slingshot that I practice with. What are the pros/cons of having a taser?

    Tough situation and circumstance. Although it may be easy to say “well, that’s the price you pay” or “don’t care what the law is I’m gonna have a gun” she is trying to do the right thing and doesn’t want to end up back in jail.

    Imagine yourself in her position. What options are available? I conducted some research and it’s not promising. Much of the information found was very dependent on State and local laws. In some areas felon’s cannot carry ANY weapon concealed. Knives are often restricted based on blade length. Some states restrict air gun ownership to felons. The options are very limited.

    In several of my comments I mentioned – and it was taken just a bit wrong – the use of high end air soft as a deterrent. In no way am I recommending air soft as a self defense weapon. Many of these “toys” provide the appearance of real firearms. Imagine coming across a farm with several patrol’s walking a perimeter carrying AR-looking rifles. A deterrent? Yes. A weapon to defend the property. Not even close. A burglar getting hit with a full-auto barrage of pellets COULD persuade the invader to take off.

    I would hate to be in a situation where air soft, a pellet gun, bow, or even black powder was my only options for self defense.

    Are you ready for this? There is a movement to make that which once was taboo and kept in the shadows of society –  readily acceptable. Legalized same sex marriage – whether you agree with it or not – is just a step in the direction that those who believe pedophilia and bestiality should be as accepted as traditional marriage. Sounds crazy, huh? While I could care less what adults do in their bedroom and supported same-sex unions(and spousal benefits) prior to the Supreme Court ruling a few years ago – you give an inch they will take a mile.

    I purposely have not linked to any news articles as I just do not want to give credit to any pro-pedophilia websites. You can check it out for yourself – or better yet don’t so you don’t have the sick, twisted feeling that I have in my gut right now. Folks, we often profess there is an attack on America and that for which it stands. If this does not provide a serious indication of that I don’t know what does.

    Saturday morning took three people shooting – two of them had never pulled a trigger before. Went well. Safety was emphasized of course with expectations laid out. I kept a very close watch and had to speak up several times early on as the “don’t point the gun at anything you are not willing to destroy” rule was not followed.

    One of them – a women from the Liberal mecca of New York – now has a better understanding of firearms and understands that they are not evil they are merely an extension of the owner.

    I feel Spring in the air. Now that I’ve said that we’ll get hit with an ice storm. Bring it!

    Interesting how the MSM is literally freaking out about Trump’s trip down to Florida. A campaign rally? If Obama had done the same thing he would have been praised on how he was “Connecting with the people and staying in touch.” I will admit I am not sure that it is the best way to spend the taxpayers dollar but if it keeps progress going then I’m all for it.

    Tech billionaire issues stark warning saying artificial intelligence could DESTROY human race which is already ‘part cyborg’ because of its dependence on smartphones.

    Interesting. Although many of us may not see the extent which artificial intelligence reaches in our lifetime consider the incredible technology that has been and will be included within military weapons. Weapons that “think” for themselves and select targets – scary.

    There has been hope that with a pro-2nd Amendment Congress and President suppressors would lose the eternal damnation they currently have in the government’s eyes. Rep. Jeff Duncan(SC) introduced a bill January 9th called the Hearing Protection Act of 2017. It currently sits in subcommittee.

    I doubt it will pass. I cannot imagine the out roar from the media as they describe the coming wave of death and destruction which would of course occur.

    Actions by Russia continue to beg the questions – “What are they doing and what is their end game?” The latest has Russia deploying a ground-based cruise missile in violation of a 1987 arms treaty.

    I am up over 100gb in my survival & preparedness library project. There are some duplicate files I’ll have to weed through. A huge undertaking.     Pulled out of my driveway Sunday afternoon and heard a massive scraping sound when I applied the brakes. Yup – new brake pads were installed Sunday night. Not exactly on my list of things to do but fairly simple. Had Christopher help me which was good info for him.

    Part of my inventory system includes a “Goal Qty” as well as current “On Hand Qty”. Costs are tracked and tabulated. As I have been entering items watching the total rise I am shocked – and somewhat impressed – by the level funds I’ve dedicated to preparedness. Although I continue to set and work towards preparedness goals funds are needing to go to other areas of my life.

    Anyone have any experience with motion detectors? I am familiar with the typical wireless driveway alarm. I am looking for multi-channel wireless devices. Multiple channels important so that various zones can be monitored at the same time and precise location known once intrusion is detected.

    As my membership in a Progressive FB Group continues I struggle not to respond to posts. Rarely am I seeing anyone step up and discuss American’s coming together and reducing the division. I am sure I would see similar things in strict Conservative groups. What I know is they most of the time are on the wrong side of the issues.

    Inventorying of supplies is going slow. Guess that is a good thing as it means there is a lot to go through. Currently deciding how much of what will be taken to the retreat. I am thinking at least 80% will go to retreat as any significant event that is where we will be. Less than 5% will be involved in Operational Cache’s.

    Although I am not in any need for another “combat” pistol I have been eyeing the Sig P320 – and the M&P9 2.0. Last week I stopped at my local shop and compared the two. The S&W M&P9 2.0 is my favorite hands down. May look at picking one up in a few months. Excellent thing about the 2.0 is it is very similar to my 1st generation M&P and take the same magazine.

    As an avid gun nut not every firearm purchase is related to survival, preparedness – and any coming Bigfoot apocalypse. I came across the Aklys Defense ZK-22 stock. This is a bullpup stock for the Ruger 10//2. What I really like about it is that left-handed people(like me) can still use it and it will accept bull barrels. A bit steep in price but looks to be a fun project. Love .22’s.

    In the process of trying to set up some training for a few friends and potentially one group member. People will go out and buy a pistol or an AR for $500+ but make every excuse in the book not to spend a few hours training. Why the reluctance to pay for training? I get it money is tight but come on. Make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and don’t go out to lunch every day. In a couple weeks a defensive carbine and pistol class will be paid for. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – “Training is NOT shooting at paper between two narrow walls.”

    People overestimate their firearm skills almost as much as their food storage levels. On a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being Papa Smurf and 10 being John Rambo – where do your skills lie? Me? Realistically and being totally honest(as always) I rate myself a solid 5.

    If you are sitting on your couch right now watching TV, reading this – and have never practiced switching to your backup weapon – while moving – your missing the boat(and will likely miss the target). Not trying to be harsh here but how many times have you shot off-hand? You’re right handed? What are you going to do when you are on the left corner of a building and need to shoot around it? What most people will do and expose themselves unnecessarily and pay the price. The smaller percentage of people will simply switch their rifle to the left side and engage – accurately –  with minimal exposure.

    So you carry everyday? Awesome! How fast can you successfully draw your pistol? Be honest. Will it get caught on your shift while you fumble to grab the butt? Is there a round in the chamber? I hope so. Have you practiced grabbing your shirt with your off hand pulling it up high well away from your pistol so as to remove any opportunity for the pistol to get caught on anything? If not – the time to start is now.

    Not healthy enough to “train” the way I describe? Then train to the level which you can. Truly cannot afford a $175 for a defensive firearms course? There are tons of YouTube training video’s to study and practice on your own. How about buy a book such as The Home Schooled Shootist?

    Bad things happen to good people every day. Some significantly crappy things may be happening to many good people in the not too distant future. It’s time to get ready now.

    UPDATE ON SON’S JOB: I went and talked to the owner of the local franchise that he worked at. I introduced himself and explained what happened. He appeared puzzled but guarded to admit he really didn’t know what happened. He said he would look into it by talking to the manager that fired Jonathan. I mentioned that he must trust this guy quite a bit. He said he did and found him to be honest. I told him that if he told the same story that I am telling then he is honest.

    Jonathan received a phone call the next day and the manager wanted to talk to him. Jonathan went by and the manager basically asked what happened and why he was so late. Obviously this should have been done previously however I think the owner was on him about it. They talked and my son met with the owner the next day – and he worked this passed weekend.

    This is just a part time job for a teenager however the circumstances pissed me off. Jonathan told me up front not to go talk to the owner. Well – I couldn’t help it. When I told Jonathan about the meeting he was not happy but accepted my response – “Someday you’ll be a dad and understand.”

    I told him if he doesn’t want to work there find something else. We’ll see.

    Consider bugging in or at the retreat and receiving news. Maps with Post-It notes to log information would be very beneficial. Local maps for noting activities such as road blocks, check points, riots, contacts, violence, and any other activities.

    So – I now have a DJI Phantom 3 Standard drone. Yes Patriot Believer – I should have bought the Phantom 3 Advanced. My budget afforded me the Standard and thus far I am very happy.  Hey – this is only my first good one and can already see me getting more in the future.

    Preparedness Intelligence: For those of us that believe we have a better than average chance of finding ourselves in a “SHTF” – whatever that means – consider the incredible opportunity we have RIGHT NOW.  Here’s an exercise –

    Go sit in your favorite chair, lay on the couch – or throw a pillow behind your head in bed. Think of your own vision of SHTF. Consider the living conditions. Consider the daily tasks that will have to be completed. Consider your current inventory of items – food, water, power, batteries, etc. How long will they last? How will you feel as you see your supplies diminish? Will you be able to source more? What will the results be should you run out of some of these supplies? What items had you not thought of before?

    Consider boosting your inventories and adding those maybe you thought of but do not have enough of or at all.

    As I have gotten older I find myself thinking “If I could go back and do it over again I would have…” – can’t stand it. What a waste of time. I don’t dwell on it like I used to years ago but still – a waste. Now my largest concern is for my kids and trying to guide them through their growing into manhood.

    The stock market is climbing, the economy is growing – and silver prices are going back up. Something has to give and I suspect it’s silver. I see prices in the not-to-distant future dropping dramatically. I will be taking advantage.

    Just finished The Jakarta Pandemic. Fantastic book and extremely entertaining. I haven’t experienced that level of suspense at the end of a book in quite some time. Bought and started listening to the sequel The Perseid Collapse. So far enjoying it.

    Some discussions around brass versus steel-cased ammunition use awhile back has been on my mind. I have no issues stocking and shooting steel in my AK – however only use it for practice in my AR. I also never shoot steel in any of my pistols. Doesn’t make sense does t? Actually for me it does.

    The only issues I have had shooting steel in my AR’s has been two FTF(fail to fire) rounds. Primer hits failed to ignite. I ejected the round and kept going and both occurred during training. This is two rounds out of a couple thousand – not bad. I have read on forums that others have similar experiences. I have not read the same in relation to steel in AK’s. Why might this be? I suspect it is related to hammer impact in the AR versus AK. AK’s are just less picky when it comes to hard primers than AR’s. AK’s typically have heavier trigger pulls than AR’s and this involves hammer springs to a certain extent. Lighter hammer springs increase the odds of a light primer strike.

    Now – why not shoot steel in my pistols? Simply the cost savings are just not there – and reliability is certainly an issue. First I see very little in steel-cased product available. Second, the cost of steel versus brass is as small as a couple dollars per 50. Lastly I have had issues with steel – and aluminum – in some of my handguns due to the frictional difference in case material compared to brass. The rougher, less-smooth steel/aluminum takes more effort to push it out of the top of a magazine than brass.

    Any concern over wear? Not me.

    I continue to take advantage of the less expensive steel-cased ammo in my AR’s for practice/training.

    Was part of a discussion on Facebook where someone said it really doesn’t matter if fewer people showed for the Inauguration last week than showed in 2008 or 2012. I disagreed from the perspective that it simply isn’t true – thus holding the media accountable for their lies should be done. I was told that I was playing “their” game – I assume meaning the mainstream media. Not sure what they mean – but wasn’t going to argue. I stated my case and that was it.

    Picked up a vehicle magnetic gun mount for my Jeep JK. So far really like it. Magnets are a great option for mounting guns in a variety of places including closets, under the bed, side of a nightstand, and even on the door of a gun safe/cabinet. Fairly inexpensive as well.     It is amazing the rumors and flat out insanity spewed by people that have no idea what they are talking about. My wife is a teacher and many of her co-workers are suggesting all kinds of things about Trump, healthcare, and education. Several said Trump is taking teachers assistants out of the classroom. Hmmm……Trump doesn’t have anything to do with such a thing. Several have made statements about how Trump is going to take away healthcare “benefits” they currently have. Again – that is not Trump himself but regardless no doubt changes are coming. Democrat’s and Republican’s alike have some very similar beliefs on fundamental characteristics of the modified healthcare system.

    Regardless of who does what the line at the emergency room and local urgent care will likely remain extremely long.

    Worked for awhile over the weekend on my electronic preparedness library. Certainly time consuming but getting quite a bit together. Organizing is what takes the most time. Looking for a way to share with everyone when I get done.

    Looking at picking up a Windows 10 laptop from GearBest.com. This is a Chinese brand laptop that receives pretty good reviews from multiple sources. Under $200 isn’t bad. I’ve been using a Chromebook for the last 3-4 years and it serves me extremely well however a Windows-based laptop would come in handy ever so often. Right now I use my wife’s when necessary.

    It’s interesting there are many popular brands over in Europe, Japan, and China that compete with common brands we recognize here in the states – but we have never heard of them.

    Inauguration Day. I pray that Trump is able to effectively institute a good percentage of his policies and prove the naysayers wrong. No doubt this is a pivotal time in history. Time will tell the true tale of his success and failure. I’ll tell you one thing – I am loving the sound of “former” President Barack Obama.

    Picked up some Monarch 45ACP ammunition – 300 rounds. Price was $13.99 a box. Really wasn’t on ,y radar but couldn’t pass up a great deal.
