From the Desk of John Rourke – December 5th, 2016

Appreciate everyone’s patience as I had to take a break from posting last week. Things are going better. Unfortunately the young man that moved in had to be asked to leave. You live and learn.

So….Castro’s dead. Yeah – old news now. The most telling event to occur related to this is how Obama raised Castro up like he may have been some kind of great humanitarian or something. Unbelievable.

A college in Massachusetts removed the American flag as it wanted to make a statement regarding LGBT rights. Folks – this makes about as much sense as a soup sandwich. Think about it. The United States in one of a few countries where the LGBT community can carry on their lifestyle without being put to death or locked up.

Unbelievable.

Reports indicate firearm sales have surged since Trump was elected – in the black community. I am all for people utilizing and taking advantage of their 2nd Amendment rights however I suspect the reasoning behind this increase will not turn out well.

You’ll likely see an increase in video’s being posted. What’s that old saying – “A picture is worth a thousand words.” Well – a video is worth much more.

    Rourke,

It’s too bad that a good deed can’t succeed in the world today. I respect your efforts though. I have a neighbor who did the same thing, and now they have no idea how to get them out of their home. My wife being a property manager is offering advice on how to do so both ethically and morally.

Castro…Yeah first class citizen with a serious Plumbum deficiency.

Colleges are a great place to warp the minds of the nations youth today into believing in some distorted reality that has no basis in reality.

My first thoughts about you saying no posts this week were related to the youth you were trying to help. I was more concerned about legal issues. As far as live and learn? I would still say you did what was right. Even if the teenager turned out to be a monster. This is why I said set some gentle boundaries. Either way, you gave that kid a choice. Clearly his bad behavior was his choice and if that kid ever grows up. He will always remember he screwed his once chance to make a right direction. More or less, no excuses.
Also, can I just say, for what it’s worth. There are so many teens that people did not take a chance like you did…and usually find themselves dead. Your a good man sir! I hate you had to go through some pain for it, but you Did make a difference. You just don’t know it yet.

I agree with the others, you did your part and offered the kid a chance. I hope some day he wakes up and walks the right path. I don’t understand kids these days. Brad M mentioned that colleges now mess up our young people’s minds, it appears to me that this is happening before they reach college age and the colleges just make it worse.

It is good to have you back Rourke!

I think the black community has been inundated with unfounded fears since Trump won the election. Someone is stirring the pot again for the nut cases with the klan claiming it has grown dramatically lately…I don’t buy that. Unfortunately, there are those in both the black and white communities who can be set off with very little provocation. If there is in fact a purchase surge, then it means to me that people are buying guns across the counter. This is not the act of the local thug. This is the act of the average law abiding middle class African American who is concerned for his safety. So, you are right John. This is a trend that does not bode well for the country in a number of ways.

We have a young man in our home and have had for about 9 months… I did set boundaries and the consequences for not following them.He was not given a key or free reign. I’ve gradually had a few conversations about what a man, husband, father is and what the responsibilities of those are. He did not grow up well and had no male influence. As long as he is moving forward, if more slowly than I like, we’ll keep going.
He has a curfew and the rule that if he breaks he he can sleep elsewhere, but we need a call if it is planned. He has not been given a key. There are other rules specific to his situation.. but it is working so far. not well, just working.. we’ll see how it goes.

    on the guns ..
as long as they are used defensively and not offensively I don’t have a problem with it.If on the other hand the media has gendered fear of “Trumps”.. (and we know they have), and it is used poorly based on bad information, it could indeed get a little ugly. Maybe more than a little.

If we thought about relaxing preps.. I’d advise against it.
