The “4 Block” DIY Rocket Stove!

Off grid cooking is one of my favorite outdoor activities. It is also a valuable skill to have should the grid go down. There are several commercially made rocket stoves on the market and those I’ve tried worked well.

Rocket stoves burn fuel incredibly efficiently. Fuel is typically twigs, branches, and other small flammable items. With fuel sources being so readily available rocket stoves are a great option for preppers.

The video below features a simple and inexpensive design made from commonly available materials.

  • FREE KINDLE EBOOK: Book One of L.L. Akers Series – -> SHTF: Fight Like a Man

FREE KINDLE EBOOK: Book One of L.L. Akers Series – -> SHTF: Fight Like a Man

For a limited time SHTF – Fight Like a Man Book #1 is available for FREE! I listened to the audio version and loved it. This is a post-apocalyptic series, however, there are parts that had me cracking up!! 🙂

Here’s some insight into the book….

As a prepper, Grayson Rowan was prepared for almost anything.

…anything other than being totally alone when the shinola hits the fan.

While he sat back and watched the United States rattle swords with Korea, play chicken with Russia, and strong-arm China, he felt sure if the lights went out, that he and his family would be ready and safe—whether it was due to a natural disaster or a man-made event. They had everything they needed at their homestead.

What he wasn’t prepared for, was his family not being home if it ever happened.

Olivia Rowan is with her sisters, Gabby and Emma, on a girls-only trip to Myrtle Beach. When chaos erupts and there’s no gas, their journey home is a nightmare, filled with predators and danger—and apparently, Olivia hadn’t learned a thing her husband tried to teach her.

When your neighbors run out of water and turn on each other, what will you do?

Jake, a country boy mechanic, never believed in TEOTWAWKI, but he’d heard his brother-in-law preach about it many times. He knew what to do; but he didn’t prepare. He lazily left it all up to Grayson—he was the prepper after all. When catastrophe strikes, will he continue to keep his head stuck in the sand while his clueless neighbors destroy each other, and his wife is stuck out on the road; or will he stand up and fight like a man?

And if you’re alone? Bug in or Bug out?

Graysie Rowan, a freshman at University, just wants to go home. When no word comes from the government, and the state capital is overrun with looters, chaos and mayhem, the college administration puts the students on lock-down. But her dad, Grayson, had prepared her for this. Now, if she can only remember what it was he said to do…

If they want to survive this post-apocalyptic event, they’ll all have to learn to fight like a man.

The end came not with boots on the ground, nuclear weapons or an EMP. It snuck in with a quiet clatter at the back door and flipped the switch, covering the states in darkness and sending this family on three divergent paths that ultimately lead home. When they collide in this surreal and gripping family drama, it won’t be without bullets and bloodshed.

    Enjoy!

  • The No BS Survival Guide to Food Storage

The No BS Survival Guide to Food Storage

I’m going to throw this right out there: I call this a “No BS” guide because most articles like this are loaded with fluff explaining things like how oxygen absorbers work, the canning process, and how dehydrated food is made. That’s not going to be found here and if someone is interested in that there’s a YouTube video no doubt. Google it.

There’s a growing concern that some tumultuous times are close at hand. I’m talking within the next few years. FOOD has got to be the #1 priority for every person who wishes to not only insulate themselves from what’s coming but survive and thrive. Everyone has their own version of what may be waiting just over the horizon. Regardless of your own version of SHTF food is required and not having it creates an additional set of dangers, risks, and situations.

We all know you need calories and enough of them. More people in the group means more calories and more food. Pretty simple equation.

As most of us are on a budget, purchasing as much food as possible for the least amount of money is a major consideration. Let’s get on with it.

    Meal Planning

The foundation of a solid food storage program begins with meal planning. The idea here is to come up with 7 meals per week for breakfast, 7 for lunch, and 7 for dinner. Total of 21 meals weekly.

Here’s an example of one lunch meal:

Chicken and Rice for Four People

    Cans of chicken(2 – 10oz. cans)

    Rice(2 cups)

    Carrots(1 can)

    Corn(1 can)

    Chicken bullion(2 cubes)

    salt, pepper, seasoning as desired

    Nutritional Information(TOTAL): Calories  1280, Fat  27, Carbs  142, Protein  104

    Nutritional Information(per person): Calories  320, Fat 7, Carbs 36, Protein  26

Cost: Approx $5.00 if bought frugally

As part of your meal plan, let’s say this is the lunch every Wednesday. If you are meal planning for 3 months/12 weeks then you would need to have the following:

    • 24 cans of chicken
    • 24 cups of rice
    • 12 cans of corn
    • 12 cans of carrots
    • 24 cubes of chicken bullion
    • salt, pepper, etc.

Do this for 7 meals each for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

This simple example can be customized to suit your tastes and needs. All of your food storage supplies will be represented. Some meals may come completely from a can, while others will be a combination of freeze-dried, bulk packed rice, beans, etc, and canned.

    A few other suggested meals:

    • Spaghetti w/meat sauce(1 box of spaghetti + 1 can of meat sauce)
    • Chili(pretty simple, dump chili out of a can into a bowl – or make from scratch)
    • Pancakes(“Just Add Water” pancake mix, water, syrup)

Does this sound like you will be storing a lot of food? It should. People eat a lot of food.

Task: Grab a pad of paper and start mapping out your meals.

food storage, budget, cheap, inepxensive, canned, food, SHTF, prepper, preparedness, survival

    FOOD STORAGE OPTIONS:

    Canned Goods

Canned goods continue to be a major part of my own food storage program. There is nothing wrong with other options such as freeze-dried foods or bulk packed rice, beans, wheat, and pasta. These are all part of my own system but the point needs to be made and understood that canned goods should NOT be considered secondary or a lesser means which to stock up.

Canned foods can last well past their expiration dates. They are inexpensive and readily available. One major drawback is weight as they are very heavy. As I write this canned corn is priced at Walmart for .38 cents per can. 100 cans of corn would cost $38.00. From a budgetary perspective along with the incredible variety canned foods are hard to beat.

    Dry Goods

When it comes to food, dry goods are things like rice, pasta, sugar, grains, beans, lentils,  etc. Canned goods are considered dry goods but I put them in a category of their own.

Rice, beans, and pasta can be stored for many years in mylar bags with oxygen absorbers. When it comes to calories per dollar – these cannot be beaten.

Rice and beans in particular can be foundations for many meals. They can be bulk-packed and stored for many years and are inexpensive.

    Freeze-Dried/Dehydrated

Freeze-dried food can be stored for upwards of 25+ years. Preparation is as simple as boiling water. I have prepared many different meals that were freeze-dried and have yet to find one I did not like. Freeze-dried foods are lightweight as well so they are excellent for transportation in large volumes.

Amazon often carries 30-day buckets from Auguson Farms. Currently in this unpredictable environment prices are elevated. Regardless – at around $150 or less they remain a bargain for a 30-day food supply.

  • Protests Erupt After Grand Jury Decision in Breonna Taylor Case

Protests Erupt After Grand Jury Decision in Breonna Taylor Case

The Grand Jury in Lousiville, KY handed down their decisions in the Breonna Taylor shooting several months ago. Details of the case can be found online, however, I will say that many news agencies spread mistruths regarding the specifics. Regardless – one of the police officers involved has been charged with three counts of first degree “wanton endangerment”. Many who pointed to police as murderers of course expected charges of murder. Once the news broke regarding the grand jury – people in several cities took to the streets to protest the decision.

In New York City protestors took to the streets and blocked traffic in several areas of the city. One protester announced via a loudspeaker near Brooklyn, “Forget ‘Turn the other cheek “We’re way past that. It’s ‘eye for an eye’ now.”

In Louisville, a video was recorded showing people gathering around a UHaul truck as people were handed shields and signs on Wednesday. Many visiting the truck were holding bats. This was obviously well planned and funded. Over 100 were arrested and two police officers were shot. Protestors were seen with BLM signs as well as other

In Denver, CO a car plowed through several protestors blocking traffic. There were no injuries, however, news media is portraying the driver as the wrongdoer and not criticizing the protestors standing in the street. The incident occurred around 9:15pm in the midst of protesting throughout the city.

In Seattle, at least 13 people were arrested and several police officers injured as protesting erupted due to the grand jury announcement. While the news is calling the Denver incidences “protesting”, we all know it was a riot. Rocks, bottles, and EXPLOSIVES were thrown at police. Once police officer was his in the back of the head with a baseball bat cracking his helmet. Power was cut to security cameras of at least one police station.

In Atlanta protests broke out across the city and police had to use tear gas to disperse crowds. The National Guard was present in several areas to control events should rioting break out.

Wanton Endangerment: “A person is guilty of wanton endangerment in the first degree when, under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life, he wantonly engages in conduct which creates a substantial danger of death or serious physical injury to another person,” the statute reads.

As I’ve stated several times before this is the new normal. With every hint of perceived injustice, people will take to the streets, loot, steal, destroy, and become violent. Now – don’t get me wrong, the Breanna Taylor case should never have happened. Regardless – the justice system needs to take care of injustice rather than violent thugs taking things into their own hands. Protesting? Protesting is as American as apple pie.

I’ll mention something that will be discussed further in another upcoming post, and that’s Bear Spray. Bear Spray is excellent if dealing with…well….a bear, but also multiple people that may be threatening. A few bursts of bear spray and a crowd will be dispersed and those hit will not be able to see. I just ordered two cans.

Take care all and stay safe.

This is no time to be complacent.

  • Preparing for the Fallout of November 3rd(PART #1)

Preparing for the Fallout of November 3rd(PART #1)

For over 30 years I’ve been involved in survival and preparedness. Over all of this time, the world has ended at least a half-dozen times, or at least it was predicted to. The truth is people – including myself – are horrible at predicting the future as there are just far too many variables to consider to possibly be accurate. Myself? Yup. Guilty as charged. I’m going to give it another shot.

The country exited 2019 divided in many ways. While the election of Barrack Obama generated tremendous resentment and erected a wall between people – it was nothing compared to the election of Donald Trump. Trump Derangement Syndrome swept over the United States infecting citizens – especially at colleges and universities and large cities. The mainstream media pushed an agenda to spread this dreaded disease to as many possible. Many in Holywood became infected and used their influence to disseminate Trump Derangement Syndrome to as many people as possible.

There were millions who were immune. They had the ability to resist – to move on past the disease. These people all had something in common.

    Sanity.

    ENTER: 2020

So now we have “the most important election of our lifetime” on Tuesday, November 3rd. Is this next event going to come and go without any apocalyptic predictions coming true? Well, I suspect not. These times are unlike any other and the stage has been set, the fuse lit. No matter the outcome we are likely to see truly tumultuous events.

This begins an important series directly related to the upcoming Presential election. Please stay tuned.

politics, elephants, donkey, Democrats, Republicans, at odds,

    How Did We Get Here?

Over the last several months America has experienced an unprecedented level of civil unrest in major cities across the nation.  Much of this started with the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota on May 25th. This unfortunate event caused mass protests across the nation against police brutality and calling for the defunding of police departments. Protests soon turned into riots causing millions of dollars in damage to private businesses and city property. The Black Lives Matter(BLM) movement became energized gaining mass support from many across America.

Numerous other publicized police interactions leading to the death of Black suspects fueled the fire and rioting continued. Some cities actually voted to defund – or reduce the funding of police departments. The Antifa organization joined in with the protests often being the instigator to starting violence and destruction. Buildings were set on fire, Molotov cocktails thrown, and people attacked and beaten. Statues across the nation were destroyed as rioters claimed they were racists symbols. In many of these Democrat-run cities, the Mayors ordered the police to stand down and allow rioters to destroy and conduct violent outbursts.

The Trump administration requested that the governors of the states where the violence was occurring to take action. In some cases, the National Guard was sent in and violence was squashed. In others – the rioting was largely allowed to occur. In many cases, Liberal politicians promoted the “understanding” of those rioting and suggested we need to “understand” them and allow them to vent and relieve stress.

In Seattle, Washington on June 8th a group of anarchist rioters took over several blocks and called the area CHAZ(Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone). This “autonomous” zone was created after a week’s worth of conflict between rioters, protestors, and police. This included a situation where a car drove in a crowd of protestors and as they worked to pull the driver out of the car he shot one of the rioters. After police continued to use tear gas and pepper spray against rioters – the mayor ordered the police to NOT use tear gas. The rioters then ramped up their violence and drove police from the area. Those occupying the area were aligned with the BLM movement and Antifa. While those who organized the area predicted an existence of peace and tranquility due to the absence of government and police – quite the opposite occurred. Many injuries, rapes, and several deaths occurred within the autonomous zone. On July 1st after another death, the Mayor finally ordered the police to clear the area.

Over time the mainstream media continued to push the BLM agenda. They broadcasted video after video of the George Floyd event as well as others supposedly showing police mistreating blacks due to the color of their skin. They broadcasted interview after interview of friends and family of those ion the video talking about how wonderful a person they were -despite the evidence to the contrary. Hour after hour, channel after channel – the media continued to condition the populace to believe that systemic racism was rooted in this country and that merely being white was associated with guilt. They also connected President Trump with racism….time and time again as they have since his election. This continued despite evidence to the contrary since his election.

While areas such as Portland, Oregon had over 100 nights of protests and rioting – lesser known more isolated events occurred all over the country.  In almost every case white people were targeted by black people – or other races in the guise of the BLM movement. Antifa also participated in the violence targeting those who stood in support of police and America. This targeting resulted in injury, destruction of property – and sometimes death. In Wilson, NC a black man walked out of his house and up to his 5-year-old white neighbor and shot him in the head. It’s reported he did this in support of BLM.

Blocking traffic, harassing anyone who seemed to be the opposition, and demanding those they confronted state loyalty to the BLM movement – or suffer the consequences.

An armed black militia in Georgia has made its existence known and stopped vehicles demanding reparations. They have continued to make incredible demands including their need for land which to establish their own country of only black people. They continue to threaten violence and make appearances fully armed.

As of this writing, white people are being targeted in major cities all over the country because of the color of there skin, or because they are Trump supporters.  Crowds of BLM have entered businesses demanding people raise their fist in solidarity with BLM – or they are harassed – or worst. A large percentage of the US population is supporting BLM.

I could go on and on. No doubt you’ve seen and heard of the craziness.

While Liberal politicians have sided with the Marxist BLM group – many businesses and professional sports teams have as well. So far it appears that consumers are striking back and not supporting such a movement as ratings are well below normal.

Over the last several months gun sales have reached unheard of levels and ammunition is sold out almost everywhere. People are concerned about crimewaves – and civil war. Many of these sales are going to first-time gun owners. Many of these reside on the Left of the political spectrum.

Note: It is important to realize that the vast majority of these events are taking place in large cities run by Liberal mayors.

    Current Situation

As of the third week of September and approx 6 weeks away from the election we are finding ourselves in unprecedented times. Over the past several months dealing with a deadly pandemic, along with some of the worst rioting and race relations this country has ever seen – the country remains deeply divided. Every conceivable issue is being politicized and friends and families are finding themselves on opposite ends of issues.

    • Supreme Court: The death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg has created a tornado of activity. With President Trump getting ready to nominate another Supreme Court Justice the Left is going completely insane. Nancy Pelosi is threatening impeachment should Trump move forward with a nomination.
    • COVID: There continue to be massive differences in opinion on how COVID should be handled both now – and in the past. Monday Morning Quarterbacking is taking place by those on the Left as they dissect and pick apart every action of the Trump Administration’s handling of the pandemic.
    • Voting: Due to the pandemic the Left is pushing vote-by-mail for the upcoming election. Regardless of the fact people can go walk into a liquor store or go to Walmart, they are suggesting it is simply too dangerous to go to a voting booth. Substantial evidence suggests that voting by mail will lead to a large delay in determining the results. Additional evidence shows that there is a chance for significant voter fraud.
    • Conceding the Election: Hillary Clinton stated: “Joe Biden should not concede under any circumstances, because I think this is going to drag out, and eventually I do believe he will win if we don’t give an inch, and if we are as focused and relentless as the other side is”. The Left is preparing to challenge the election should Trump win.
    • Lies: Joe Biden recently came out and said that if President Trump had performed his job as he should have – not one single person would have died from COVID-19. Not one single person. The MSM and the Left is relentlessly spreading propaganda in an effort to convince voters to vote against Trump.
    • 2nd Amendment: Kamala Harris and Joe Biden have made it no secret they will be going after the NRA and gun rights when they win the election. This is an admitted priority.
    • Biden: Biden continues to show that due to his declining health condition he will never complete a 4-year term. This means a Harris Administration. Based on her consistent radical belief’s a fundamental change to the country is what’s in order.
    • Violence: While protests and rioting have decreased in most areas, the smallest negative interaction between police and anyone black generates outrage.

Tension is high as well as the stakes.  Everyone is on edge. Politicians in Washington are fighting amongst themselves and it is evident that everyone has an agenda. As each day passes the pressure mounts and the tension thickens. People are worried about what will happen as a result of the election and the uncertainty is maddening for many.

This is where we are. Propaganda is being broadcasted by all sides and it is a waiting game. We are unlikely to see a winner on November 3rd. What might happen? Stay tuned for Part #2 as we explore the possibilities.

  • Is NOW The Time To Be Going Gray?

Is NOW The Time To Be Going Gray?

I’m beginning to see a mere glimmer of change. In areas across the country, there are people that are standing up for their rights and will not bow down to Antifa, BLM, and the like. They are ignoring the MSM’s claims of social morality. I’m seeing more stories of people defending themselves and their property. I’m seeing folks coming out to protests and proudly displaying the American flag that so many of the opposition love to hate. I’m seeing more and more stories of people on the Right challenging Liberal politicians and mounting movements to recall elected officials.
The recent “boat parades” in Texas, Florida, and South Carolina are an example of Patriotic Americans snubbing their nose at the status quo. Rather than staying at home shaking their heads at the ridiculous things shown in the media they are taking a stand.

We often talk of “going gray” to reduce our exposure to the opposition.  This is often done in an effort to eliminate oneself from becoming a target.  Not letting others know about our preps so they won’t try to take them when things get bad is a form of going gray. Many are doing that now from a political perspective especially on the Right. That can be smart under certain circumstances and conditions.
Should you hide your political beliefs?
Now? I don’t think so. Not yet. We have so much on the line and if we fail to influence others, spread the word of truth, freedom, and liberty – then who’s to blame if we fail? For decades the Left has had their marches, their protests – their movements. There is little doubt they have been highly successful with an agenda of indoctrination and influence.  They have taken the stance that THEY are up on the moral high ground and looked down upon we “deplorables” who reportedly fail to see their fight for equality and fairness for all.
    Um…..Right.
The reality we all know to be true is when it comes to the moral high ground and what is right – we are on the RIGHT side of issues. This is absolutely clear. Crystal.
The country is declining fast. Talk of civil war is growing with each passing day. Rumors are flying that false flag events are likely to occur in an effort to distract, instill fear, and drive Americans to vote for change out of desperation. We need to stand tall and proud of what we believe.

  • On Civil War 2.0

    On Civil War 2.0

Recently had a good friend on FB say the following:

“Isn’t it strange that Civil War 2.0 will be fought by Republicans vs Democrats again?”

My response(I largely agree with him):

I think there are other sides and facets to CW 2.0. You have groups that hate both those that are far Left – Middle – and Right. That is what will make this conflict so dangerous. Remember hearing about all the guerilla warfare and insurgency in Iraq? That is largely what will happen here. Unlike the first CW, battles lines will be local AND regional. Fighting within states and cities will be carried out. Politics will play a role, however, demographics will as well. Race, unfortunately, will be a factor as well. I’ve been pushing the thought for several years there would be a new Civil War. Others like you have the wisdom to see what lies just over the horizon.

I’ve stated previously and will again that Civil War 2.0 has already started. I’ll not suggest that any of my predictions are accurate nor correct. When it comes to predicting the future there are far too many variables to accurately predict what will occur with a high level of certainty. Here’s the reality though: We are preppers and survivalists. Forecasting the future and preparing for what MIGHT happen is what we do. Others can bask in their ignorant bliss. We will be responsible and do the right thing!

All over social media, there is talk of a new civil war. Many claim that when it starts it will be over because Patriots have the guns. I say underestimating your opponent is a quick way to being defeated. Those right now that can be pointed to as the enemy are rioting, looting, carrying out violence, and are involved in some of the protesting. From all accounts, they are well funded and have much better organization than those of us on the Right. In many areas, those that are “anti-Patriot” have some backing by local politicians and media. This is powerful.

Setting up reliable and secure communication networks is one of the many things that those of us who are on the side of freedom and liberty must do. That will be discussed more over the coming months as well as other areas of preparation for CW 2.0. We will discuss here and on Patreon. On Patreon, there will be topics that I simply cannot discuss on this website – a more public forum. Join us over on Patreon.

There is no time for complacency.

The John Rourke Patreon Page is Now Live!!!

I’m very pleased to announce our Patreon page is now live and fully underway. I’m excited as we take this new path towards preparedness, life, and community. On Patreon we will be covering numerous projects from setting up solar systems, building a survival truck, cooking recipes, homemade radio repeaters, all things “tactical”, and so much more. We will be making timely videos on current events as they develop and communicate critical information also in a timely manner to keep Patrons informed and up to date.

Mentioned previously, a major project we are undertaking is our path towards relocation to a low population density area and become very self-reliant. I am referring to our American Exit Strategy Project. This will take time and I hope that many of you will join as we begin this adventure. If you are not familiar with what an American Exit Strategy is – check out this article. Our efforts to reduce debt, save money, relocate to a safer area, to continue to prepare will be documented exclusively on Patreon.

Hey – it’s not all survival & preparedness. We are going to laugh along the way and get off-topic here and there.

Here are a few things upcoming:

  • [REPOST]Economy Crashing – What Do We Do Now?

[REPOST]Economy Crashing – What Do We Do Now?

NOTE: I had a request to republish the following article. It was originally published back in March of this year when the COVID pandemic was just getting underway so please keep this in mind. It has been slightly edited.

We are in unprecedented territory. America is under siege by an invisible enemy and the seemingly required actions by Federal and State governments have opened a Pandora box the likes of which we have never seen before. Millions of American’s are fearful of the future as their employment falls into question. How will I pay my bills? How will I pay my rent/mortgage? How will I care for my family? What is going to happen?

This hits home as I lost my job this week like many others and now looking for employment in an environment where hiring is highly unlikely.

    What do we do now?

If you are in a higher-risk health category the focus must be to not attain the virus at all. Quarantining by limiting exposure to people and the virus itself must be a priority.

Those at less risk, while still trying to avoid the virus, should focus on the economic challenges ahead. A strategic approach to making certain that basics such as food, water, medical, security, communication, and planning are taken care of.

    In a word: Prepare.

    Food

While food storage should have already been a priority for readers here, if stocks are not sufficient NOW is the time to make improvements. With income being diminished for so many the following is a list of foods with higher calorie content and lower prices:

    • Rice – this is becoming more difficult to find at the moment, however, stores will be resupplied. Likely there will be limits on quantities to purchase. Rice is simple to prepare, keeps well and can be combined with many other foods and seasonings.
    • Bread(flour)- Many stores have been selling out of bread. Make your own!! Simple to do and very inexpensive with as low as 4 ingredients(flour, salt, yeast, water).
    • Pasta – Typically can be found on sale and keeps well. Don’t forget pasta sauce.
    • Peanut Butter – Dense calories and great taste. Store brands are cheap.
    • Canned Meat – Tuna, canned chicken, and SPAM are still available in most stores. While not the cheapest food they can be used to form meals and provide protein.
    • Frozen Meals – There are meals available as low as $1.00 and with sufficient freezer space load up.
    • Frozen Meat – If fresh is sold out there are usually boxes of frozen steak, hamburgers, and chicken available.

    Water

Water is incredibly important for not only sustainment of life but for cooking and sanitation.

    • Water is difficult to store as it is heavy and takes up a lot of space. Purchase gallon jugs of purified or spring water rather than bottled. Bottled water is very expensive compared to jugs.
    • Build your own water filter system. There are lots of videos on YouTube on how to do this, however, many of the components are sold out or prices have skyrocketed. One option is the Sawyer Mini Water Filter Bucket Kit available from me. This kit allows a simple Sawyer Mini Water Filter(about $20) to be hooked up to a bucket so high volumes of water can be filtered. I normally sell this kit for $10.99 on eBay, however, I still have them for $9.99 with Free Shipping for readers of 1776PatriotUSA. Click HERE to check it out. Click HERE for the Sawyer Mini Water Filter.   I highly suggest that you have at least TWO filter systems available.
    • If you have a pool or rain barrels make certain they are full.
    • Purchase Clorox bleach to be used to disinfect water.

water, filter, Sawyer, bucket kit, SHTF, prepper, preparedness, survival

    Medical

    • Stock up on current medications. Many insurance companies will allow you to get a prescription filled 5 days early.
    • Make sure a good first aid kit is available as well as compression bandages.
    • Wear prescription glasses? Make sure you have at least one spare pair.
    • Have a variety of pain killers, anti-inflammatories, anti-diarrheal, and Severe Cough-Flu concoctions.
    • If you lose your job or have no insurance check out GoodRX for discounts at pharmacies. Yes – it actually works in many cases.

    Security

There are many cities across the country releasing criminals from their jails to reduce the possibility of spreading within the jail population. While this INSANITY going on this cannot end with positive results. Unemployment is going to skyrocket and many will become desperate. Crime is very likely to increase.

    • At a minimum have a pistol or shotgun available for each adult in the household.
    • MAKE SURE THOSE THAT HAVE ACCESS TO FIREARMS KNOW HOW TO USE THEM. The last thing anyone needs is to be shot in the ass by their cousin while trying to avoid the virus. Range time!!!
    • Ammunition is in short supply for most common pistol calibers, thus, a shotgun is a good option. Regardless, a few boxes of ammunition for each firearm is a minimum.

    Communication

With everything going on there are a couple positives: The power is on and does not seem to be at risk anytime soon and communication is still fully available. While a lesser priority there are a few steps to take just n case:

    • Basic FRS/GMRS handheld radios should be put back along with extra batteries. These are extremely handy should the grid go down and can be fun and entertaining for little ones as well.
    • Have a written list of names, phone numbers, addresses, and email addresses for friends and family just in case regular communication such a cell phones get interrupted.
    • Keep a couple of soup cans and some string. You never know.

SHTF, radio, FRS, GMRS, communications, prepper, preparedness

    Planning

Everyone’s situation is different as far as geography, population density, housing, etc. Consider all aspects of your situation and think of what could happen if the power goes out, there was a large increase in crime, civil unrest, or if you needed to relocate. The more you think now and literally make a list the better you will be able to think and react later.

    FINAL THOUGHTS

The Trump Administration is pulling out all the stops to try to save the economy. Most people simply do not realize the impact this event is having on the economy – short and long term. Those who have been in the preparedness game for the past few decades have contemplated what an economic collapse would look like and how it would start. What is happening right now could easily be looked at as the catalyst that ends up creating a storm the likes of which this country has never seen. Hopefully not.

What do YOU think? What are you doing to deal with not only what is happening now but to also prepare for what lies ahead? Any advice or insight you wish to share?  Please comment below.

    Take care all.

I purchased this camper in late May of 2020 as part of my Bug Out Plan and an essential step towards fulfilling my American Exit Strategy Project. In an effort to reduce my monthly bills so that I can work towards paying off all debt and saving money – the camper is key to much cheaper living. I now live in the camper full time.

The camper can also be relocated as needed and provides essential shelter. I’ll be sharing the steps I take to modify the camper with solar power, communication gear, deal with limited storage, and much more.

Adjusting to camper life has its challenges, however, the focus is on the end game. As things continue to develop in this country I am, feeling a greater and greater sense of urgency to move forward and accomplish my goals. Goals? Relocation to a low population density area. Self Sufficiency. Debt-free. Prepared.

  • 5 Ways to Prepare on a Budget[2020]

    5 Ways to Prepare on a Budget[2020]

Note: This article was written some time ago and I am republishing it with some updates. As hot as many of us are right now with summer still well underway, winter is just a few months away. It’s no exaggeration that 2020 has been one helluva year and is not over yet. Who knows what is in store as the year comes to an end, elections are held, and the future becomes the present? Regardless – if you are reading this you’re already ahead of the curve. I have tremendous faith in the “1776 community” that you all are very aware of what is going on and have taken steps to get ready. Still have more to do? Don’t we all!

Zombie apocalypse. Crimewave. Race War. World War. Economic collapse. EMP. Pandemic. Hurricane. Massive winter storm. Invasion of the Smurfs. The reasons people prepare vary but what we should all agree on is bad things happen to good people. Preparedness is common sense. One of the biggest challenges to preparing is doing so while on a budget. Most people do not have the resources to go out and buy massive quantities of food, firearms, and other supplies.

If you are on a strict budget and struggle to find extra funds for supplies here are a few ideas that may help:

5 Ways to Prepare on a Budget

    1. Shop Sales & Buy in Bulk – Overall, food prices are fairly inexpensive, although they are on the rise. Shopping sales and discount stores can provide increased buying power allowing more to be bought for the same amount of money. Couponing can also save money, however, be aware that coupons are promoting the purchase of name brand products – which typically are higher priced. Using coupons on products that are also on sale can provide deep, deep discounts.

Grocery stores often throw out big sales such as “Buy One, Get One Free”, and even “Buy One, Get Two Free” at times. Seasonal sales around Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Summer can put certain products available at very low prices. Realize the reasoning for grocery stores doing this is to lure you in so you will buy products that are NOT on sale and they make can make the most margin.

survival, preparedness, how to, save money, food storage, budget

Stores such as SAM’s and Costco offer bulk products like rice and beans at extremely good prices. Purchasing a 25-lb bag of rice for under $10 is common. This is a lot of food for very little money.

Non-food items can also be purchased on sale. Discount stores such as Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, and even the Dollar Tree can be goldmines for purchasing inexpensive supplies while stocking up. Websites like Craigslist can be a good source for budget-friendly supplies such as propane heaters, camp stoves, tents, and army surplus. eBay can be a useful budget-friendly source for preparedness supplies. Amazon continues to offer almost anything you can imagine at extremely competitive rates.

amazon, store, survival, prepper, preparedness, SHTF, supplies

    2. Repurpose and Fix Up – It is almost an art form the way people can take one item – such as an old, used door – and turn it into something like a rugged table for storage of supplies. Craigslist is a good source for what most would consider “scrap”. Construction sites are another. Driving around neighborhoods there are often piles of stuff being thrown out that is gold for the right person for the right project. An old, used grill for FREE is a good example. Grab that grill, fix it up – and now you have an off-grid cooking method for very little money.

Scrap wood from new home building can be repurposed for building raised garden beds. I’ve seen tillers sitting on the edge of yards because they no longer work. For someone who needs a garden tiller – pick it up and get on YouTube to see how to fix it. Often there are step by step instructions on how to do most anything.

    3. Gain Knowledge –

With access to the Internet, information is basically free(other than time). Add a printer and survival & preparedness binders can be great for the cost of ink cartridges. Using an Amazon Fire and a microSD card a survival library can be created very inexpensively. With reading and research, a huge about of knowledge can be obtained for little to no money. This is very valuable.

There are courses on first aid, mechanics, welding, auto repair, and all kinds of other skills available at local trade schools. Financial aid is frequently available.

    4. Invest Time –

Using your time to prepare likely costs nothing. Organizing supplies, performing inventories, and even prepping your land is extremely valuable and very affordable. Using the time to develop and practice skills is time well spent. Those on a budget can do so for little to no money.

Examples of tasks that largely take only time:

    • Programming ham radios such as the Baofeng UV-5R.
    • Saving seeds from your garden.
    • Go out and walk/exercise.
    • Practice tying different knots.
    • Create an emergency binder filled with important information such as insurance policies, names, addresses, phone numbers, pictures, etc.
    • Take photos of your property in case of fire or some other disaster and insurance needs to be filed.
    • Make a checklist in case you need to bug out. The checklist will serve to make sure you do not forget anything in a stressful situation.

    5. Gardening –

Gardening is one of the most important activities to learn and practice. Seeds are extremely cheap. Using time and labor to work the soil, water, and grow your own food is so rewarding. It also does not have to involve a lot of money(although the option is always there).

If the land is available for in-ground gardening this is ideal. Regardless – raised beds can be created from purchased wood or rocks found out in the woods. Buckets can be used to grow vegetables where space is in short supply. The point being is anyone – including those on a very low budget – can garden and start to learn.

There are challenges to prepping on a budget but it is achievable. Those efforts can pay dividends not just when a disaster hits but in everyday life as well.

    Take care all.

  • Are You Ready for the Next Lockdown?

Are You Ready for the Next Lockdown?

Regardless of the facts, and what any of us believe pertaining to COVID-19, we all have to deal with the actions of local, state, and federal government policies put in place as a response to the virus.

Very soon after states started easing restrictions and reopening the number of new cases started to rise. While it can be argued – and should be – that more testing equates to an increase in new cases – the rising number of deaths is concerning. Over the past 7-10 days, the daily number of deaths appears to be decreasing. This is good news.

By the way – I am well aware that the data is skewed and accuracy is highly suspicious. The data used is what we have to go by at the moment. Real-world evidence has many hospitals beyond full capacity. The virus is spreading and the number of hospitalizations and deaths is up. There is no doubt about that. The true “death rate” or measure of lethality is certainly not nearly as high as the American people and the world was led to believe.

    ‘Nuff said on the data.

    The New Normal

Policies, rules, and planned reactions to levels of infection vary greatly by localities and state. Politicians are largely instituting policies based on a combination of effective practices to diminish the spread, economic impact, and poll numbers.

Notice I did not mention “Rights of the citizen and constitutionality” as a contributing factor towards policy development. When you can walk into a liquor store, loot and riot, go to Walmart – but you cannot go to church – the obvious biases are evident. Another relevant example of political bias toward determining policy is how a large segment of the Left wants to provide simple and insecure means to vote – rather than the normal method. Once again – people can stand in line at Wal-Mart, however, to many standing in line to vote is too dangerous. The lack of consistency and the level of hypocrisy knows no boundaries.

Masks are part of the new normal. Social distancing is part of the new normal. Shopping online and using innovation to find methods of conducting commerce with little to know physical interactions is part of the new normal.

Part-time school with a substantial amount of online learning is likely something that will not be going away anytime soon. Students wearing masks all day and minimal class-sizes may become part of the new normal. The changes in schools and e-learning will have a detrimental impact on the economy and developmental progress of students.

The coming Fall/Winter season will be the first dealing with COVID. Imagine how people will be looked at who are sneezing, coughing, and have stuffy noses due to the common cold? Employers will increase their requirements on testing for those “suspected” of having any kind of sickness to make absolutely certain it’s not COVID will increase.

Imagine what will occur when a vaccine comes out. How many employers will require as part of employment all employees to get the vaccine? Will Schools will require students to get the COVID vaccine in order to enroll?

    It’s going to be interesting.

    Steps to Prepare

I’m not expecting any kind of catastrophe due to the 2nd wave of shutdowns. Here are a few thoughts pertaining to commonsense preparedness for the coming lockdown:

Basic Pandemic Protection: For those looking to protect themselves as much as possible from contracting COVID-19 the following items are recommended to stock up in quantity.

    • Masks – as more and more places are requiring masks, make sure you have plenty on hand.
    • Hand Sanitizer – Hand sanitizer has become much more readily available. If the new cases continue to trend upward and you wish to avoid contracting the virus, hand sanitizer is useful for sanitizing hands and other items such as shopping cart handles.
    • Disinfectant Spray – Still hard to find in most areas, “Lysol” type spray is useful for disinfecting larger areas and objects such as toilet seats, doorknobs, keyboards, etc.
    • Antibacterial Cleaning – Cleaning items such as Clorox wipes and cleaning solutions that are effective against viruses are still highly sought after and difficult to find.

Other Preparedness Tasks/Steps: When the Fall comes the unknown will arrive. The regular flu will infect hundreds of thousands of people and with similar symptoms to COVID and create an environment of fear and suspicion. Everyone with sniffles, a cough, a stuffy nose – will be looked at as “one of those”.   Wait and see.

The complexity of this situation cannot be overstated.

    • Debt Reduction. With the economic uncertainty and businesses closing, reducing hours, and changing how they operate the chances of becoming unemployed are likely to increase in the Fall. Reducing debt to better be able to handle times of income reduction should be started now.
    • Saving. Saving goes right along with debt reduction. Having an emergency cash stash just in case makes sense and will help if income reductions occur.
    • Secondary Streams of Income. Backup funding sources to keep you afloat should hours get cut back or you lose your job should be a priority. Selling things on eBay is a good example. Using a skill such as baking cakes or petsitting is another.
    • Stocking Up. Food prices have increased substantially over the past few months. Will this trend continue? I would plan on YES. Buying food now – especially on sale and using coupons, can save you a lot of money. Buying now being smart and strategic could save you upwards of 30-40% over what you might pay in 6 months. Spend $750 per month on groceries now? This could amount to a $300 per month savings later. BTW – this goes for everything – not just food.
    • Cold/Flu Medicines. There is likely to be a run on cold & flu medicines this Fall. Stock up now as supplies will likely become short and prices will go up.

Regardless of what the next lockdown looks like or if we have one at all – I’m not sure there has been a time in the past 100 years where the future of our country has been so uncertain.

Keep prepping. Keep moving forward. Stay positive!

    VIDEO: Fighting Fires with SouthernPrepper1

YouTube favorite SouthernPrepper1 has a really good video series on firefighting. I rarely see preppers discuss firefighting. You can imagine that fending off potential marauders who may use fire as a weapon. You can check out the entire series HERE however below I have included a few below.

The use of inexpensive IBC containers combined with gas-operated pumps – on the back of a truck or trailer – makes for an excellent home firefighting system. Hooking up a similar system to a stationary 3,000+ gallon pool would be an option as well.

I’ve conducted regular fire extinguisher training with my kids. I light a fire in a firepit and have each person put it out while explaining how to use a fire extinguisher. It’s not much but the theory is giving them some hands-on experience now will make their ability to react in a real situation better. Should something happen it will not be the first time any of them used a fire extinguisher.

I’ll tell you right now as you read this if you do not have a fire extinguisher in your kitchen click HERE or go to the store NOW and get one. A kitchen fire can get out of control in a hurry.

  • Rourke’s SHTF Go To Gun[2020]

    Rourke’s SHTF Go To Gun[2020]

    “So, what’s your SHTF gun?”

This might be a question you hear from a fellow prepper sorta like – “What do you do for work?” at a neighborhood cookout.  Like choosing a car, firearms are highly personal and there is no perfect gun or guns for everyone.  I’ve owned many firearms in my 50 years and can tell you that my “SHTF gun” changes from time to time.

Right now my current “kit” is based on an AR-variant and the S&W M&P9 2.0 9mm pistol.

Let’s start with my AR. This is not an off-the-shelf AR. I built it. I used a Mid State Firearms 10.5 upper and melonite BCG. It has performed flawlessly and although the barrel is only 10.5″ it has been extremely accurate. Hitting tannerite at 85 yards shot after shot is good enough for me. The Mid State upper is mounted atop a New Frontier Armory billet lower.  A Shockwave AR pistol stabilizer and Hypertouch EDT trigger group round out the list of the major parts.  I’ve run a Bushnell TRS-25 red dot up top for several years and it does what I need it to. Notice that little piece of duct tape? Extra CR2032 battery for the TRS-25 sits underneath.

The end result of this build is a lightweight, rugged, accurate, and reliable weapon. Did I mention it is compact? 29.5″ long and moving the stock(ok….the brace) would decrease that further.

    Here are a few pictures:

I’ve been asked many times what the best SHTF gun is. Nowadays my answer is – “The one you have with you when you need one.”

As mentioned my gun of choice can and will change from time to time. After my upcoming test on the Springfield SAINT Edge pistol, that time may arrive sooner rather than later.

Jericho TV Series – Watch the First Episode

For those that have hung out here with the “1776 Nation”(that’s you!) for a while or over at my previous site where I would spew my musings, you know I am a big fan of the TV show Jericho. For those not familiar, Jericho was a series that came out back in 2006 and was watched by preparedness-mind folks weekly. There were Jericho watch parties and often discussions after each episode.

    Show Summary via Wikipedia:

The storyline centers on the residents of Jericho, a small northwest Kansas town, in the aftermath of a nuclear attack on 23 major cities in the contiguous United States. The series begins with a visible nuclear detonation of unknown origin in Denver, Colorado. Despite initial belief that it was an accident, Dale Turner, one of the characters, receives a phone call from his mother in Atlanta, Georgia. The call is then cut out by the sound of a nuclear blast. Upon showing this to others, it is revealed that the bombings were deliberate. Problems are compounded by loss of power and modern communications, effectively isolating Jericho. Later, power is restored to Jericho by what is alluded to as the efforts of the U.S. government but an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) from an unknown source disables all electronics.

Above is episode #1. Take a watch or download it while it’s still available. If you have Netflix the series can be watched there – or the DVD can be purchased HERE.

    Good stuff!

Patreon is a platform that allows anyone to support their favorite content creators for their hard work and effort. In return for their support – supporters(called “Patrons”) receive exclusive rewards.  Content creators(like me) can then connect with their Patrons in a very direct and unique way. The support from Patrons allows creators to create better and more interesting videos and other projects.

In no way will my other platforms decrease with Patreon coming on board. In fact, quite the opposite. Although I had taken a break for several months I am back and am ramping it up. I am looking forward to connecting with people in a much more private and uncensored way via Patreon.

One area of my own personal life which I will be documenting and sharing exclusively with Patrons revolves around my own American Exit Strategy. With that, I will be sharing efforts in getting out of debt, creating secondary streams of income, preparations, networking, creating bug out plans, sourcing land, and building a homestead.

I’ll be sharing a link that can be used to join the journey with me soon! I know – everyone is wondering what the cost is.

  • SURVIVAL HACK: Obtaining Propane for Off Grid Cooking On The CHEAP!!

SURVIVAL HACK: Obtaining Propane for Off Grid Cooking On The CHEAP!!

Most people have some type of gas grill that operates on normal, everyday 20 lb. prone tanks. When the power goes out the gas grill suddenly becomes very important. Spare tanks are a great thing to have on hand, in quantity. Problem is to buy a new tank, and have it filled – you’re spending upwards of $50.

Here’s a way to stock up on propane tanks and spend a little less:

Used propane tanks can be found at yard sales, Craigslist, and on Facebook Marketplace. Prices as low as $5 each are not uncommon. Grab a few used propane tanks and then tank them to your local Walmart or propane service location and get them exchanged/filled.

It’s important to know that propane tanks have to be recertified every 12 years. This means if you go buy a used tank and it is older than 12 years there is a good chance when you go take it to get filled they’ll reject the tank. If that occurs just take the tank to a grocery store – or Walmart – and exchange it for a newer tank. It is still cheaper than buying a brand new tank and getting it filled.

I’ve brought up exchanging old out-of-date tanks before and been attacked by “Karen’s” who call this being dishonest and stealing. Let me go ahead throw this out there: An old tank received by the propane exchange company will simply be recertified, painted or wrapped, and then used. No big deal.

If you are curious – here’s how to read the manufacture date of the tank:

    1. Locate the raised collar at the top of the propane tank.
    2. Find the “MFG DATE.” located along the collar.
    3. The first two numbers represent the manufacturing month, while the second to numbers is the year.

So there you have. I’ve bought numerous tanks off Facebook Marketplace used and have built a very good supply.

    Happy grill’n!!!

  • Decline of America and an American Exit Strategy – Part #2

Decline of America and an American Exit Strategy – Part #2

See Part #1 here – – > Current Events and the Decline of America Part #1

In Part #1 of this series, I did my best to provide some perspective on the current state of America and compare it to the great idea she once was. All great empires and societies throughout history come to an end….eventually. Can it be saved? Yes. It is possible. The actions required to accomplish such a feat is not going to occur with our current political climate and social self-destructive ideology. There would have to be some great reckoning to generate change that will not only unite this country but unite with the ideals which it was founded.

So, we have identified that America has run its course and although we can have hope we need to face the reality that the world as we know it changing – and not for the better. The American Empire will transform – is transforming before our very eyes. The big question for all the prizes is what do we do now?

    Here’s the answer:

You must enact your American Exit Strategy.

What is an American Exit Strategy? Simply put it’s a plan of action in which the desired outcome is to minimize the potential negative effects of a changing society, government, and culture. One of the many goals would be to become as independent and self-reliant as possible. Reducing dependency on such things as grocery stores, government programs, and policies, and service industries is desired.

If you are familiar with Mark Goodwin’s book American Exit Strategy, that is absolutely where the term comes from. In the book, the economy and civilization are collapsing. It is suggested by the Conservative, Independent Presidential candidate in the story that people must prepare by stockpiling food and other supplies and relocate out of the cities where civil unrest is sure to occur. He refers to the preparation for what is coming as an American Exit Strategy.

From a preparedness perspective, the correct course of action is to minimize exposure to risks and threats. With all that has happened, is happening, and the uncertainty around the corner getting away from potential civil unrest must be made a priority. Getting out of the cities – away from the cities – and into the country is essential. If permanent relocation is not possible and in many cases it’s not, then creating a “bug out plan” to relocate must be the main component of the American Exit Strategy.

    Relocation: Population Density

The most dangerous threat when it all comes crashing down comes from people. Take a look around at what is happening in the area of Seattle known as “CHAZ”. When lawlessness spreads and civil unrest become more the norm being as far away from population centers will be immensely beneficial. Population density is generally measured in the number of people per square mile. When planning an American Exit Strategy, relocation – or at a minimum having a bug out location that has a very low population density is a priority.

Small towns and small communities generally have smaller problems. They also react at a much lower level to events transpiring around the world – or up the highway in a larger metropolitan area. Having a neighbor some distance away measured in hundreds of yards or miles is much better than in feet.

    Example:

Mars Hill is located in the very northeastern part of Maine. It’s a very small town hours away from what anyone would consider a large city. The population density is approx. 42 people per square mile. Mars Hill has a crime rate score of A-, which is significantly better than, say, Atlanta which ranks an F. While crime rate scores are subjective and based on many data points they are a useful guide when comparing areas.

    Mars Hill, Maine

Mars Hill has a population of between 800-1000 people depending on the source. With a population density of 42 per square mile, it would not be difficult to find land “out on the sticks” with few neighbors.  Raw land can be purchased as low as $400 per acre in quantity and away from more populated central areas. Population density plummets in these more remote locations.

    The negatives for Mars Hill:

    • Low employment opportunities.
    • Severe winter weather with snowfall annually measured in feet.
    • Short growing season.
    • Dangerously frigid temperatures during the winter.

There are more specifics to consider when looking at a location for bugging out or completely relocating to. This example just covers a few basics.

[Most people will go out of their way to avoid an area like this, -21° F]

    Shelter/Housing

Once a decision is made for relocation, typically the next question to answer is in regards to housing. Do you get a piece of land with a house, build a house, camper, RV, Yurt, shed, tent? The options are endless. Available funds will likely be the deciding factor.  For those with a large source of funding – a house, cabin, bunker, or fortress or whatever will be selected and it’s an easy decision(get what you want). For the purpose of this article, I’ll focus on those like most of us(on a budget).

    A few thoughts:

    • Campers/RV – for those on a budget, campers and RV’s are hands down the best value in protection from the elements. Campers come as self-contained homes with all the typical essentials and comforts at a fraction of the cost of an actual house. Obviously, things such as lighting, heat, air conditioning, etc. require electricity. Off-grid power can be set up with solar fairly inexpensively and campers are readily compatible. Generators are frequently used as well in combination with solar to provide power as needed.

When looking for a camper or RV it pays to have patience and perform widespread searches. There are some fantastic deals that can be found by anyone IF you take the time to look and don’t jump on the first one you see. The specifics about the different models, designs, options, etc. is not something to be covered in this article. One thing I will say is you DO NOT have to have a vehicle capable of moving a camper. There are many moving services available across the nation that will move a camper hundreds of miles, put in its place – at very low costs. This is one of the main reasons it pays to search large areas on Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, etc.

    • Sheds – Go search the internet for information on living in a shed and you’ll find a hodgepodge of information from customization and suggestions on how to do it, to how dangerous it is and you are evil for suggesting such a thing.  Let me cut to the chase: A shed is NOT a house and as a structure is not built the same as a house. Regardless – it is a viable option to consider when setting up a “camp” or “retreat” for surviving some seriously bad times. In fact, it’s a viable option for having a weekend getaway as well, but, that’s for another article. There are considerations that must be made when setting up a shed to live in. Those specifics go beyond the scope of this article, however, I will say that things such as ventilation, leveling, moisture control, insulation, utilities, sealing, sewer, water – just to name a few.

Minimally sized sheds capable of being lived in can be purchased for as low as $3,000. The costs go well beyond the initial cost as those modifications and additions already mentioned must be done.  Building it yourself will save quite a bit of money.

    • Shipping Container – Shipping container homes are often discussed as a means for inexpensive, yet, durably constructed shelters. There are good reasons. Containers are used for shipping “stuff” across oceans aboard large ships. They are durable and built for stacking. They are NOT built for burying.

There are two basic sizes – 20′ foot and 40′ foot containers at 8 feet wide. This is 160 and 360 square feet respectively. With the correct skills, containers can have windows and doors cut in them. It is NOT safe to inhabit a container as they are built.

Much like a shed, shipping containers are hollow shells and will need to be furnished and finished with sewer, light, power, etc. Large flatbed trucks must access the area in which the container is being placed so this may negate some areas.

shipping container, prepper, American Exit Strategy, prepper, preparedness, civil war

Shipping containers can be purchased as low as $1,500-$3,000 each and can be stacked or placed side-by-side. Some very unique and interesting housing units can be built with containers.

    • Tent – Probably the least expensive shelter option is the tent. In the picture below a large what I would call “base camp” tent is shown. Tents can be purchased in a variety of materials such as canvas that are extremely durable. Large base camp tents often have openings for tent stove chimneys.

bugging out, SHTF, prepper, retreat, bug out, civil war, survival

The con’s on tents are obvious with very little protection from the elements leading the way.

    Supplies

A complete discussion on supplies needed within an American Exit Strategy plan would go well beyond the scope of this article. What I will say is the old adage – “Beans, Bullets, and Band-Aids” is a good start. Common sense dictates that essential supplies need to be available in quantity. Large quantities.

    Examples of Supply Catagories:

      • Food
      • Water
      • Firearms, Ammunition, Magazines, etc.
      • Medical Supplies – prescriptions, first aid, Flu medicines, etc.
      • Sanitation
      • Communication
      • Cooking
      • Tools
      • …..and more

How much to stock up on is a discussion that will have brothers stabbing each other with butter knives. The answer breaks down simply as much as possible. Common suggestions provide a minimum of one year of everything. What happens when one year goes by and everything is used up? Plan accordingly.

Storage of supplies is another issue. Built your American Exit Strategy plan around a shed? You’ll need another shed just for your supplies.

An entire series of articles could be developed just of the various supplies needed to live an independent and self-reliant life.

    SUMMARY:

In Part #1 we reviewed what has happened to this country and the case was made that it’s truly just a matter of time before it all comes crashing down. The events we are witnessing now would fit right into the stories of such books as 299 Days, Patriots, and Doomsday: Apocalypse. Unfortunately, we are in the real world and presently are experiencing the early stages of a domestic conflict.  The next few years will be very interesting as over time things will likely evolve to be more volatile and dangerous.

The hope – and my gut is telling me – is there will be a pause in the escalation. This temporary delay is what I and many others are counting on to work towards the completion of our American Exit Strategy. Whether permanent relocation is the plan or bugging out to a pre-determined location – the time is now to get ready.

Last thing: There are those that will suggest implementing such a plan is giving up. They may suggest it’s an act of cowardice. I think quite the opposite. It’s being responsible and dealing with these changing times in an appropriate manner. I am no less a Patriot today than 10 years ago. I love these United States and for all it stands.
