Not a whole lot accomplished this week…..
- Accepted delivery of a CIMA Fixed Edge Knife from GearBest.com. I ordered it about 3 weeks ago and sitting on my table top it is awesome. Similar to the HX I recently reviewed the CIMA is a handy knife with a blade the is extremely sharp. Not planning to do a full testing & evaluation on the CIMA. Think I will just add to the collection. At around $21 with free shipping may get another.
- Picked up some fishing poles and supplies. My youngest just turned 13 and wanted a new pole. I kinda went overboard and bought him a nice one and decided to do the same for me. I’ll be fishing on the Catawba SUnday morning.
- Don’t forget to enter the latest giveaway. Info can be found HERE. ends the 13th.
So – what have you done this past week?

Started reading Going Home by A. American which spurred me to make a list of stuff I needed to update my bug out bag with. Went to Walmart and picked up a few inexpensive items from the list: foot powder, heavy duty scissors, chicken bullion cubes, extra cord for my iphone so it can plug into my solar charger, some single serving lemonade mix packs, and some salt & pepper.
Then I unpacked my BOB as well as my messenger bag, checked stuff (found out my cheapo AM/FM/SW radio was not reliable so I removed it from the messenger bag), and re-distributed some stuff and packed things back up. Added some Mountain House meals to the MREs I had in the BOB already. Removed the long underwear from the BOB since it’s freaking hot here now. Also put a sleep mat and sleeping bag in the car with the BOB.
Other items from the list that I still need to get for the BOB: some stainless steel water bottles and maybe a camel back water pouch, rechargeable batteries and some kind of charger that can hook up to my solar charger, sunscreen & sunburn cream, some cash, a small gun cleaning kit, boots or sneakers (I wear dress shoes for work so this would be a major problem if bugging out), neckerchiefs, sunglasses, rain poncho, sponge and small bottle of dish soap, some pliers and/or wire cutters, some kind of pot holder, some mole skin for the first aid kit, replacement AM/FM/SW radio (I have a Kenwood Ham radio, but want a backup receiver with SW capability), water filter and water tablets (I have a Lifestraw in the messenger bag), some more cooking ingredients, better flash lights, and the biggie – some kind of night vision system.
The good news is the family is now at the BOL permanently working to get it setup. So if SHTF then I still have to make my way there, but I won’t be toting them along.
I have an old Ontario RAT by Jeff Randall in the side-by-side. Your CIMA looks like an identical clone and no doubt much cheaper. The RAT came with a minimalist nylon sheath with tie holds along the perimeter. The RAT itself had an awesome black phosphate finish. My knife was moved from a JD Gator when it was worn out to the Kubota and is now about a decade old. I used it for rough ranch work, cutting hay bale binding twine and rope, stripping insulation from wire and the like. I used it just the other day to cut some electric fence tape and noticed that even after being in the elements for a decade, the finish was unblemished, handle rivets secure, and blade somewhat sharp. I was impressed.
If that CIMA holds up as well, it is indeed a bargain.

PR, I have the old Ontario RAT-7 Micarta handle knife too, I use it as my GP (General Purpose) field knife. Been working fine for me for years.
Badger 359,
Mine has the 5″ blade and I wish I had purchased the longer version. Checking the Internet, I noticed that the RAT blade is 1095 carbon steel with ‘black textured powder coating’ and the grip micarta. Looking at Gearbeast, I see the CIMA has a rattan handle and stainless steel blade. Stainless has a number of corrosion advantages but will not take and hold an edge well. Comparing the two, we are likely better off with the Jeff Randall RAT knives. Still, one could likely purchase four CIMAs for the cost on one RAT.

added 2 combat tourniquets, added some food, tilled a couple acres and planter one in feed corn, and one in millet,, (trying to see what it takes to feed chickens etc, without feed stores), weeded gardens, picked and thinned a few quarts of berries, planted herbs and raspberries, read prep everyday, and listened to ALL (JR and Prepper Ralphs) PODCASTS.. not bad guys. Worked on some things PR mentioned (thank you sir).
Yard sale finds….
Free 50″ DLP TV. Going to salvage the Fresnel lens and metals. Maybe try to extract the gold.
Paid $15 for a $100 ATI stock and shell carrier kit, to fit my shotgun.
Paid $5 for a slightly used $150 Kobalt tool chest.
Put back 720 cups of freeze dried coffee, a 3 month food supply, and made some hard tack. Picked up 2 Ruger 10/22’s from a friend selling off part of his dad’s estate, and 500 rounds. Added salt, sugar, honey and taco seasoning. Went to the range and fired the 22’s. While at the range I bought a Diamondback 380 with almost 250 rounds, paid $100. The shells were assorted. Noted that if I shot better shells there was no problem but cheaper shells would jam; guess that’s why there were different kinds in the case. That is all for now. Keep Looking UP
well done,,!
Some years ago, I added a large freezer for the express purpose of stopping time on freeze dried foods. Extra space is filled with vacuum sealed freeze dried coffee, butter, peanut butter and the like.

I assume everyone is watching the events in Orlando & LA.
A friend of the daughter is moving and didn’t want to take everything with them. We got a month’s worth of nonperishable groceries for free!
I got my ham technician license and picked up 999 rounds of .22 LR for $56 at Wally mart.
Good you you DH.
When you get that General, let me know and we can talk on 20 or 40m. Same offer to any other amateurs out there.

Planted tomatoes-taught a senior woman to shoot her new shotgun-bought a case of soup-re-stocked fix a flat-
re Orlando-now that The Islamic state has taken credit for this horrendous massacre I wonder if Obama will FINALLY acknowledge that it is the iSlamic radical terrorists to blame. The FBI had checked this Muslim guy out twice before and?????
Lightning
Sadly Lightening, law enforcement is all too often response driven because it is not a crime until it is a crime. Which makes calling 911 for tactical help, well strange. 911 works well however for summoning post incident medical care and follow up investigation.
I sure don’t envy those FBI agents, not from fear of organizational retaliation, but who are no doubt beating themselves up mentally right now.

Just ordered that CIMA knife. it is on sale for 19.99 as I type this.
