For many – including myself – the need to buy land and create a retreat/homestead/getaway is felt down to the core. Money – or lack thereof is the most common reason why it doesn’t happen. I came across this video from Becky’s Homestead with some suggestions on how to reach your goal with very little money.
Although the title suggests no money is needed obviously landowners are not lining up to give away their land. I have read the book Dirt-Cheap Survival Retreat and the author makes some similar suggestions. In the right circumstances it does work.

Thanks Rourke! That was a great little primer for an idea on how to obtain that retreat locale that we all want.
Thanks Brad M.
JR, good information. I have had one problem with my homestead and it was from the insurance company, after 6 years they wanted to check out the place and I thought it was to see if everything had stayed in a good state of repair, wrong the checked un-insured out buildings and my chicken coop. With-in 2 weeks I received a letter telling the chickens and coop had to go as they did not insure property with animals on it, dogs and cats excluded, this included dismantling the coop, if I did this they may reconsider re-instating my policy. I found a different insurance company. The kicker is my area is zone agricultural.
Thanks for passing this on JohnP. I would not have ever thought of that occurring.
You know probably one of the reasons people in general can pay to much is more mental than actual. You make up your mind and want to get it done right now .. Right at that moment “good deals” might not be around. Good deals go quick at times. Take your time within reason… depends on what you want and your time table. If you can wait, and learn looking for the best deal you will usually spend less and might avoid being taken advantage of.. I’ve done a few things that cost me hundreds by waiting over full retail of thousands.. You can use that saved money for other things, or the low cost might get you more etc….
Good video… I like visiting other peoples steads to get ideas as well…
