Stocking Up On Protein

For the past few years, there’s been a lot of talk of coming food shortages. Between cyberattacks, crazy weather, government subsidies, and supply chain/labor shortages – anything is possible.

David over at SoutherPrepper1 discusses storing meat as a source of protein. As he mentions Amazon is not the best place to buy canned foods, however, I’ll add a few links below for reference.

****NOTE: David references a Glen Beck video – find it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRhkNJAnh1I

Right now canned meat is fairly plentiful and inexpensive. Perfect time to head to the grocery store, SAM’s Club, and stock up.

I buy canned chicken and roast beef from Costco. Turkey SPAM from Wal-Mart or WinCo. I get frozen chicken breasts and ground beef from a restaurant supply store. I will be ordering a freeze dryer after our move (no space for it here), then a lot of the frozen meat and older canned meats will get FD’d.

SPAM is regularly having trouble with bulging cans. I’ve had it happen to me. Thirty plus cans stored for five years all went bad.

Any meat can be pressure canned. It is cheaper in the long run and you can
    control the quality.

    IMHO.

    N Chuck:

I personally have not had a problem with any of my cans bulging in 20+ years, with one exception. I’ve lost 3 #10 cans of corn beard mix to bulging. Probably where we store our canned goods, temperature and humidity stable.

In Oregon, we shop at our local-owned GroceryOutlet in Eugene, Springfield, and Junction City.
We find something we like, we acquire it in cases.
    .
BisonPrepper James M Dakin preached CALORIES! for years.
His go-to is bags of wheat for cheap calories.
Unfortunately, my gut/lung/sinuses plug with mucus eating grains.
And, then, there is the inflammation issue.
He constantly discusses the transformation of petroleum into CALORIES! through factory farms.
No petroleum equals far less CALORIES! for people with appetites.
    .
What happens after the woke/incompetent/self-sabotaging American Navy cannot patrol the ocean as TheWorld’sPolice©?
Less petroleum gets to the Western Hemisphere… and folks start looking at useless eaters as a food-source.
Why hunt diminishing herds of wily deer if dumb neighbors are close to hand…
    .
    This will be interesting!

We never hear any mention of a Mr. Large Marge? There may have never
been one and if he ever existed he is likely somewhere in a straight jacket.
I think she is just a pathetic troll roaming from site to site trying to be
relevant. Best leave important conversations to the adults.

The SPAM was stored in the inside pantry cabinets in sealed boxes. I heard on several sites that folks were having trouble so I went to check and to my
    surprise they were bulged.

There are also other exc. sources of protein such as peanut butter which can be frozen and comes freeze dried-beans -which last for years stored in their plastic bag in a tin or can – and tuna.
Here in upstate NY hay has not been able to be made due to EXCESSIVE RAIN and wet fields-this will affect the price of milk and meat . Arlene
