Here is a place to share things you’ve been thinking about lately. What kind of things?
- Recent accomplishments in preparedness.
- Projects being worked on.
- Thoughts on world events.
- Recent purchases & recommendations
- Current events related to politics, terrorism, crime – whatever.
- Go on an adventure or have fun? Share it!

My turn…..
- I don’t hide that this website and my others help provide a bit of extra income for me. The reality is based on the number of hours I put in I’m making about .15 cents/hour. Guess I’m not too swift. Anyways – there is a formula many internet marketers use to earn money. It involves manipulation, baiting, and dishonesty. I just can’t do it – thus, .15 cents an hour. 😉
Some of the examples are so obvious to me I cannot have any kind of relationship with those folks anymore. Some would call me unrealistic and a fool. I just cannot take advantage of folks and play on peoples emotions. I call it like it is and how I see it. Period.
- The news that some big names in the Democrat Party are admitting Hillary stole the candidacy from Bernie Sanders – thus destroyed the integrity of our election process – is refreshing. What is not refreshing is she will not be held accountable as she should be. What should happen? Jail. Plain and simple.
- I’ll put up some reminders over the next few weeks but Paladin Press is closing its doors. They are having a HUGE sale clearing everything out. Good time to take advantage as once they shut down most of their books will no longer be available.
- Hope everyone has a GREAT WEEKEND!!!
Something for you…….a little “prepper humor”

Your turn……
And Bowe Bergdahl skates with a little fine. There is no justice.
You are correct CaptTurbo. No justice in this case. None.
John how can I make $.15an hour, it’s more than I make now. Lol. Its true though .
Hey Rourke in ten or twelve years you’ll be sittin instead of standing in front of that bowl. Lol
That made me laugh . But they say the truth shouldnt hurt. Regarding the toilet
Just trying to get things reorganized while doing the daily thing, seems as if that’s all I’m doing lately. A couple liberal sites I’m on they’re saying the whole Nov 4th was the creation of “right wing Nazi’s” to take out the Left and antifa because they’re afraid of them. How they have to make up this fake civil war notice because Antifa and the Left have the fascists right conservatives on the ropes and are desperate.
While walking the dog Thurs nite, I watched a neighbor a few streets over unloading a dozen t-posts and two rolls of barbed wire from his Forrester. We exchanged pleasantries and I said, “getting ready for Saturday?” He just smiled saying “better be safe than sorry”. We chatted a little more and I gave him a email address I only use when interacting with new people on preparedness topics. It just feels like Y2k all over again, we have a set date for something to possibly happen but it won’t except in a few isolated places. Severe weather is expected the next 48hrs for my area so I’m more worried about that then any antifa ‘civil war’ breaking out, which is very unnatural for this time of year.
And thank you Rourke for not turning this site into one of those bait and switch/click bait sites like many have fallen into. There are so many sites that post just the most horrible information by people who obviously have no clue what they’re talking about but writing articles on the subject and constantly have to “click next page” so they get their clickbait numbers up. Thank you
You’re welcome jh. Thanks.
JR,
Ya know, most of us would not mind helping support our favorite hangout place (i.e. this site). Sure, going to Amazon through here helps but I’m talking about a link that lets us contribute. Don’t have to beg, just provide a link for the opportunity.
I’d be happy to. At least $.15. Just sayin’
Ditto
…and thanx Comms Prepper
David
Same here Comms….I refer to this site as the “adult site”. It is not full of hipe and solicitation. The info is believable, and I don’t have to filter out some authors. John, drop us a link and we’ll see if we can give you a raise. From .15 to .16 at least.
Oren – appreciate that. I may plan my retirement early! 😉
Well, I really appreciate that Comms Prepper. I’ll see what I can do.
Here’s a “what would you do in this situation” question. A couple of weeks ago I was spending extensive time in a major hospital in the middle of one of the country’s worst big cities for crime. I live an hour away by car. I was there because my first cousin, who had no other family within 800 miles, was fighting a tough battle with cancer and they told him he had a week to live. Early in the week I had the thought, as we regularly do, what if “IT” happened … NOW? Name your “IT” (EMP, riot, war, etc.). Would you stay there and take care of your dying cousin because he has no one else or would you leave him and try to get home to your family that might be in danger. I never decided while sitting there and there’s no right answer, but it is an interesting mental exercise. Some of the details will drive the answer (is there power, are you armed – I wasn’t, can you walk 60 miles with a pack, do you have your pack, etc.)
Flboy in MD,
I assume the MD is Maryland and the city would be Baltimore. Been there, not impressed. Just some thoughts to your scenario…
If you stay at the hospital: some of the staff will just not report in. Once the emergency generators run out of fuel for what ever reason, I would think with the lights out, staff will begin to leave. Ambulatory patients will get out best they can. Others will be either left or the remaining staff however small will attempt to take care of them. All of this would happen within the first week. Most fuel tanks for emergency generators don’t go past one week. With no staff and no security, you would be a sitting duck. Also, without the staff, your cousin would be gone quickly. With or without gear, you need to figure out how to get home. If an EMP, nuclear attack (this may make the decision a moot point since the city may not be there anymore) or natural disaster, the first hours are your trigger. Don’t delay. Get moving. If you wait, the cockroaches will crawl out of the rubble and you will have a very difficult trip if you can even make it. If without you pack, travel dumpster to dumpster once you get hungry. You will be amazed at what is available. In an urban and even suburban area with dumpsters, once you get over your adversions, you can find food. Walk with a purpose. Walk with you shoulders back, head erect but you eyes constantly moving. Be aware. It tends to ward off predators.
But, you get my point. If I were in that position, yes. I’d head for home.
If it was a big IT, I’d head for home. My kin would understand that my survival might depend on getting out early. If they were having a temporary health problem, I’d try to take them with me. In the last stages of a terminal illness, I’d explain what I was doing and leave them behind. If they care about you, they’re not going to want you risking your life for one that they’re going to be losing shortly. The fact that you were there in the first place says a lot.
Thanks for the thoughtful responses. Yes, it was Baltimore. I had a pack in the car with enough supplies to get me home walking. I am in great shape for my age. Near the end, I had a relative who came into town with only a small bag of clothes. I think with some added rations from the cafeteria and vending machines, we could have made it. And we could have picked up a few things along the way as Oren says. But I agree in that situation assuming a big “IT”, time is of the essence – get going.
Thanks, Rourke, for a great site.
Appreciate it FLboy in MD.
What is on my mind? My response to Fly Boy in MD is some of it. I’ve been refining my GHB. I’m basing it on my fly fishing. My bag will take me on the fishing trip in the mountains and home for about 3 – 5 days. Yep, plenty of walking so I want it light weight. A first aid kit for cuts, scraps, breaks, lacerations and yes…blood glucose control. I’m diabetic…seriously. I take two types of insulin plus Metformin twice a day. I’m not too concerned about glucose levels going up, instead, bottoming out. Hence, the glucose tablets and a test meter. Freeze dried food and Cliff Bars (24 g. of sugar). An 8 x 10 tarp for shelter. Compass. Fire making kit of dryer lint, Strike Force flint lighter, small slivers of “fat lighter”. Small flash light. Water filter, Leatherman, pocket knife, socks, rain coat with liner, eating utensil (everything is no cook), 550 cord, toilet tissue and cat hole spade in standard military grade butt pack on utility belt with suspenders and canteen. Preferred weapons…Ka-bar (has age on it, came home with me), Estwing Tomahawk axe, .40 S&W M&P with 3 additional magazines loaded out at 12 instead of the max of 15 rounds. All this just to go fly fishing on a mountain stream. But, it’s over a mile hike to the stream.
Meanwhile, I’ve started harvesting and putting up (vacuum pack freezer bags) my collards and turnip greens. Waiting on my broccoli and rutabaga to come in. The deer really enjoyed the peas this year as well as the cabbage. Other than that, I’ve been enjoying sitting in the yard feeding scratch to the chickens who free range. The young Rhode Island Red rooster is still of a mind to allow me to pick him up to pet him. This won’t last long. His spurs show signs of starting to grow.
AGhaha good way to get some target practice in if you can’t go to the range! I wouldn’t want to be the guy who had to clean up the “brass” though!!!
On a more serious note Rourke, it’s the fact you don’t have all the adds, the fear mongering post, and push to sell us crap we don’t need or can’t afford that I’ve followed you all these years! You are down to earth, sincear, and flat out a good fucking dude! I respect that about you, and often try to use your links to buy things I’m already going to buy to do my part to help you out, I know you spend a lot of your free time on these post, many of which has helped me prepare and feel more at ease, for this I thank you! Keep fighting the good fight my friend, you are educating your fellow Americans and are doing your part as a patriot! That in its self is a reward, your time spent on this has real meaning, I doubt many of us could claim that much!
john, this is the only site i go to .keep up the good work
Ditto to all the above. Much of what you guys talk about doesn’t interest me (ham radios, super-guns), but I’m still willing to listen. Who knows when my tastes might turn and that information will come in handy? I’ve followed you from site to site because you live this life. You’re a down-to-earth family man who doesn’t use scare tactics or try to sell us miracle cures. You express your thoughts and welcome ours. I do occasionally venture onto other sites, but none of them keep me coming back. You do this as a combination of public service and hobby. The others are primarily in it for the money or their 15 minutes of fame, and it shows.
And that folks is a wonderful comment…..
Appreciate that fantastic comment SingleMom!!
Single Mom-well put I agree.Lightning
So as a female prepper what interests you ?
Lightning, I want to say it’s just the whole “mom” thing – protect and nurture, keep the home fires burning – but that sounds like I’m shortchanging the men. I don’t know that I can really explain it other than to say that I’m mostly focused on keeping people fed long term, being able to clothe them, keep them healthy, and make a comfortable home under less-than-desirable conditions. Defense and communication are important, but I tend to follow a traditional female role in my preps.
.15 cents an hour is tuff but I suspect you get more out of all of this than that…if not monetarily….and you also get our gratitude. I’m all over the interweb, what I once thought to be an educational savings grace has become a cesspool. But not here. We may not throw money at you, but what you do is appreciated.
Thanks Mr. Gault. I just did the math – it’s up to .17 cents!!
Well ordered “The Survival Medicine Handbook: A Guide for When Help is Not on the Way Paperback –by Joseph Alton and Amy Alton today!! I used the link through your site for the book.
That’s the one I wanted to buy but couldn’t find it on the site. I thought it must have been sold out. I have heard good reviews on that book.
I just did another search of this Title and came up with zip, nada, nothing. 🙁

Go with JRs link. Its the 3rd edition, whereas my link is the 2nd.
Thanks. I had it in my head that Paladin had it and I was excited to buy it at a discount.
Paladin is where Mel Tappan and Jeff Cooper reside.. Mel was the primary influence on todays prepper movement .. it’s worth a read .. or they 9there are two) before he died.. then a couple more by his wife and others..
the basic seminal philosophies and by whom they are authored is worth knowing.
He was influenced by Cooper (a peer) and Kurt Saxon.. nearly a peer..
JR .. sharing your heart and time with those of the community is much appreciated, and reimbursed poorly.. but thank you sir.. not everything is about dollars.. but appeal to us if you should need to..
As a sense of community, this is a unique destination..
I have added 90 days food (25 yr variety), as well and shorter term food.. I’ve reformed my GHB and lightened it .. and started a separate bag .. that will be it’s twin and will stay home.. either for family or just in case….
I’ve added medical .. and used some too .. went to the doc for tests and picked up some bug or other.. FishMox is on board..
Figured out Fig Dehydration..
there are it bitty pieces .. like coaching two new ones that appear to be serious.. they are digging on their own and hunting me down to talk .. YAY! I’ll share at their level of consumption .. Adults pose harder questions than kids.
our Gov is crap and most of the news is a distraction .. I am sure the two shootings so close are designed to allow gun control .. be advised though .. holidays at hard for people who do without.. eyes open and situational awareness gang..
guess I am done rambling .. beginning The days of Noah vol 1-3 ,, as Mark Goodwin is .. so far it is very biblically based.. as I would expect
Stay steady… fall forward .. you’ve started .. don’t stop..
