One thing I hope you continue using those dark end of days pictures. Love them. How about a question on boots. Do you like American made ones or the non American ones?

    1. Borderreiver says:

Don’t know about JR but Belleville boots are the best there is. Dancers and Wellco are also excellent choices. Sizes run very small on the non-US boots as well. American made run pretty true. A big plug for 5.11 clothing also. They are the only non-cotton or wool that don’t make me smell funky by noon.

Thanks rcoh. I’ll keep posting them until I run out. I like them as well. As far as boots go I have a pair of Rocky Mountain Cornstalkers I bought while living in New Hampshire in 1993. Hiked miles in the snow while hunting. I still have them and they are still wearable though definitely worn some. I bought a newer pair a few years ago but have worn them very little. Now – I prefer Merrell’s such as THESE. They are super comfortable, waterproof, and light. Merrell is an American company but I believe most of their shoes are made overseas.

Hi Point 9mm carbine? Your thoughts on this? Any other 9mm carbine you like? I have the Marlin Camp Carbine in 45 but would like something in 9mm. Wish they would come back with the Camp Carbine!!1

for the money the hp carbines are pretty decent except the lack of mag capacity. ones ive really come to like are the cz scorpion and sig mpx but both are out of current price range. guy i shoot with has a sbr’d scorpion and feels like a modernization of the mp5 subgun. the ar style carbins are very popular right now especially the pistol version with shockwave armbrace attached. just my thoughts.

JBernDrApt – sorry for getting to this late. I am not impressed with the Hi Point. For the money it is a bargain. Loved the Marlin Camp 9 and wish I still had mine. The CZ EVO 3 9mm carbine looks fantastic and I would love to have one someday. A lot of money at around $1000. I could get a nice AR for that but it may be a decision based on WANT rather than practicality. The Beretta CX4 Storm can be had for $650 and is extremely nice and so compact.

Merrels and Cabelas are the warmest I have ever owned and they last. .Lightning
PS Wind chills are brutal here- very dangerous. minus 7 last night and the same tonight with another 3 inches of snow.

JR-new topic — I dont wish an answer – just something to think about. For those of us who have had our families please consider permanent birth control.
(woman tubal ligation- men vasectomy) There may come at a time when you cannot get birth control products . Enough said.Lightning

what just blows me away is how “now” suddenly, after 8 years of constant economic downturn, heavy restrictions, a transformation of America, they believe there is a looming economic collapse, that the right-wing are wanting a war or social unrest in the streets, that THEY are the true patiots of this nation and anyone who doesn’t agree – you are branded a fascist or nationalist! the one lib prepping site i belong to is just crazy, they are so worried abot ‘trump suporters’ lurking for info, yet encourage their people to lurk and report what they find, esp on other members. but i have noticed recently the political chat has eased going to a private activist fb site. personally its just like former militia groups trolling for members on prepper sites, these so called liberal preppers if you look closely are just looking for activists to join their cause.

    1. JR says:

Agree jh regarding the Liberals and how blind they have been for 8 years – or were they? What I mean is the propaganda is heavy on both sides of the aisle. There is no doubt that eventually economic issues will erupt due to the insanely rising national debt. How many times did non-Liberal sources suggest it was “right around the corner”? I know I suggested it on a few occasions and of course it never happened. The reality is the economy IS doing better. The company I work for is an excellent indicator for economic strength and we are doing extremely well. The economic strength is falsely propped up with government money, blah blah blah so hard time are coming. These Liberal sites I have been to are filled with almost identical headlines and calls for disaster now as I saw over the last 8 years.

People have to think for themselves and weed through the propaganda and BS.

I would love to have night vision but I’m not a rich man and I know nothing about all that is on the market. All I know is that the price range goes from “not bad” to “are you kidding me”. Could you share some of your view points?

    1. JR says:

John R – I feel your pain. I truly do. The ATN X-Sight I have is a lower cost weapons mounted option. Running in excess of $500 it is not cheap but performs well. It utilized an IR illuminator which acts as a beacon to those who also have night vision.

I hope to get a better option but pretty happy with the ATN. The inexpensive Seek Thermal adapter mounted to an iphone/ipad works very well for the money.

Night vision is a deep topic – deeper than what can be put here in the comments and I am by far not an expert.
