Project: Survival Seed Bank

Here’s a quick video in which I am showing a recent project – a survival seed bank. This is one of a few I am putting together. I currently do not have any land which to plant a garden, however, I know that if things went south that would change reasonably quickly.

I also recently purchased some freeze-dried seeds from FrostySeed.com. I consider those my “last resort seeds” as they have the longest shelf life. What a fantastic prep!!

Well – here’s the video. Would appreciate it if you smash that Like button.

Take care all –

Rourke

Thanks. I had never heard of Frosty seeds. You really find amazing products. Emergency Essentials also sells
seeds that can be stored for a long time or frozen. Rourke you can also plant tomatoes etc. in big pots wherever you are living.

Arlene – yup – I just came across Frosty Seeds myself and went ahead and ordered one of their seed banks. I’ve done a lot of gardening over the years including container gardening – especially since living full-time in a camper. I’ll post some pictures soon. Thanks!

Great advice. I’ve got hundreds of packets of seeds stored. Even for some veggies I’ve never tried. My fear is that if something happens it will be in October and the soil will not stay warm enough for plants to flourish. May have to try pots and keep them in the house. Next week I start my stealth garden on Federal land. Nothing big, but a start if needed. Uncle Jim is sending me 2500 worms to help improve the Texas soil.

Methane – when you say “stealth” garden are you referring to guerilla gardening where you throw some seeds on land that you do not own? I have done that before in a neighborhood where there was land along the outskirts of then properties. No one knew any different and I made some packs of soil with the seeds in them out of “netted” bags. I was able to go place these bags in a few places and water them with a few bags of these seeds. I was able to grow some zucchini and crookneck summer squash.

Methane- hope your garden does well.
Everyone I just heard from my reliable US Ag. sites that the asian burd flu is affected small flocks of chickens in over 14 states.Usually it comes from China later but since it is so spread out I have concerns that it may have been purposely planted-which of course is causing many farmers to have to kill their flocks and discard their carcasses. So stock up on chicken and eggs while you can.
We are also going to be experiencing a severe wheat shortage in the US and the world this season.
I have kept crackers doubled bagged in plastic and put in a metal or plastic new trash bin and they have kept fresh for 2 years. Bread can be frozen.
Just heard that the new covid virus is so rampant in Taiwan and China that Taiwan has run out of body bags.
On a positive note spring is coming and many people are helping Ukraine and it seems like our Gov and President were affected today enough to send more military aid- I hope it is not too late for the brave Ukrainians.

Arlene – you may have seen it but I did some “dry canning” of saltine crackers years ago and they stayed fresh for at least 5 years(I ate ’em all). I was highly criticized by readers of my old website when I mentioned I did this as they said it was a waste of precious mason jars. Well – it’s an option. I’ll do it again when I get to a permanent spot.

You are right o the money when it comes to the wheat shortage. I would not place too much trust in the news about a new COVID variant in Taiwan. There is a lot of BS out there.

Keep prepping Arlene. Maine Prepper Girl and I will be driving through your area once we move to Kentucky and make regular trips to Maine. We need to meet up and we will buy you dinner.

Exactly JR. Its a federal park which I live close to. Nothing big or industrial, but I want something in case I have to head for the woods and not have access to our home. I put the seeds in a peat pot and got them to sprout. Just need to poke a hole in the ground and push them in.
