Summary:

Emily’s father is blamed for Gracie’s murder. The townspeople are out for revenge at the prodding of Gray Anderson – the newly elected mayor. Jonah is caught and set to be killed but Jake intervenes with a compelling case of morality.

Hawkins attempts to separate himself from whatever organization he is involved with.

The episode ends with Jake and Emily getting ready to kiss(go Jake!!) when they are interrupted due to a large crowd walking up through the center of town. A surprise guest is among them.

Discussion:

A couple things to consider:

  • Continued wasteful use of electricity though I think it was done for morale reasons.
  • What to do with criminals is certainly something to consider. In this episode the new Mayor is judge and jury. Some type of jury or group to look at all the evidence would be the minimum to deal with criminals.
  • The episode ends with a group of refugees entering town. These additional people represent a massive security risk and potential drain on limited resources.

Lastly – Gray distributed all the food from the supply drop as his first action after being elected. Dumb move as those supplies should have been used as a last resort as winter is coming.

Vigilante justice will be difficult to control but it may prove necessary in some cases. Conserving a food stockpile for harder times is a foreign concept in our “gotta have it now society”. As I learn more and more Mutual Assistance Groups (MAGS) are going to be a requirement. Kind of like going back to the Family Farm concept.

Good point Charlie. The “lone wolf prepper” is going to seriously struggle. Networking with others NOW and setting up communication systems for later is critical.

Another name is Intentional Community. Yes extended family as a business and or farm is ideal.. However creating a Mutual Assistance group I am finding is much more challenging than I thought. How is everyone doing re: Hurricane Matthew?

It is very difficult to form and maintain a MAG. So far it looks like Matthew will just provide my area a little rain. We’ll see.
