For years many of us have gotten that “feeling” – you know the one – that something is right around the corner. That feeling of impending trouble….maybe even doom. It drives us to prepare for the unknown. Well, every single time I’ve had that feeling in the past I’ve been wrong. Every single time.
Now?
We are already in the midst of an SHTF event. I don’t have to list off all the craziness going on along with some insanity thrown in. No – you are well aware. We are in the middle of something that no one could have predicted. All the survival scenarios we’ve run and prepper fiction stories read always had some event, some massive situation that made it obvious that SHTF is now upon us. With all that has occurred in such a short time who knows what will happen over the next few years. I can’t see a path back to where we once were. It’s never going to be the same again.
What can we do?

Harder times are coming for sure. I will miss the safety and security we used to enjoy.
Historically we have always had the advantage of someone boil it down to the seminal events that lead to WWI or WWII Vietnam, Korea etc… etc…
When you are in the middle of anything developing, you can’t see that level of detail. Would we know if it was at the time? I doubt it. Historians will decide the degree of SHTF or whatever they decide to name the collection of events. Nothing common sense I am sure. That isn’t what academicians do… common sense.
That’s why information and accurate decision making is a thing.
The objective is to make it through it right? And not necessarily suffering through it .. but I suppose that depends on your definition of suffer.
I don’t suppose an historical perspective is very useful anyway.
If you are the one shot, it’s a bigger deal than if you are the one watching you get shot. In a sense SHTF is very individual. There is not a doubt that things are happening that affect a large portion of people negatively in the population and internationally . Is it a classical SHTF .. no not really. Right now it’s closer to the gradual decline in Glenn Tate’s – 299 days, however it woudl not take an awful lot to go further toward seom flash point to become more. Might be days, weeks, months, years..no clue .. Sooner or later someone predicting something will be right.. Be careful.. a blind hog finds acorns once in a while. It doesn’t mean they are a prophet .. it means they were right once, and my be nothing more than a one off, or luck. I doubt when the real savior returns, it will be anything we expect or easily recognize and not heralded by any media or official communications.

“Something wicked this way comes!” Exactly what, I don’t know. How sever? Again, unknown to me. So, what to do. My plan is to insulate myself from needing resources I don’t control. Reducing/eliminating debt decreases your dependence on a job (income). Food storage will get you through shortages. Meal and project planning will help you get what you need BEFORE you need it and find that it is no longer readily available.
Some things don’t store well (gasoline is a good example), so look for ways to reduce your need for it. Propane vs. natural gas for your home. Water storage and resupply with filtration may become critical.
“Think the unthinkable!” Just because it has not happened before does not mean it won’t/can’t. Electricity at the switch, water at the tap, medical care on demand is already a problem in many areas. And put nothing past the PTB. If they get scared – watch out, they will do ANYTHING to retain power!
The reason I know that things are going to get much worse is because all the disasters set in motion since the fake pResident infested the White House is all intentional. It’s not from incompetence. Sure Beijing Biden is a blundering, demented fool but in reality he has zero to do with the decisions being made. He can’t even wipe the ice cream off his own chin by himself.
We are being invaded from 150 different countries via the wide open southern border. Many are likely coming to do harm. Gonna be a long winter folks.

I feel sorry for those living in the colder north. I’m set pretty well in SW Florida with solar power to run the AC and a lot of my place dedicated to growing food but this will not be a party for any of us.

It is going to be a LONG ,HARD cold, snowy winter up north here. Today I got my snow tires on. We use Stabil for the gasoline.
There are many flags here saying “Don’t Blame me I voted for Trump”
Ideas : Buy as much as you can from local sources ( farmers – ranchers- orchards- and grow as much of your own food as you can )
Keep calling and hounding the public officials -vote in the midterms and keep our eye on the White House for 2024.
Learn a new skill -it is never too late – whether it is baking or mechanics or carpentry or Ham radio or first aid etc.
Keep a library for reference. If the grid goes down all the technology will be unavailable. Get an extra pair of eyeglasses if you wear them.
Store shelves up here are bare with some items so pick up what you can when you see it . We may not be able to get our favorite tea, coffee etc. but having some kind is better than nothing.
Make or buy your Christmas-Hanukah= Birthday gifts early this year .
I just bought a Mr. Buddy heater as a back up for the cellar and
it was hard to come by-I was on a waiting list last year and this year until John P advised me to check into Northern supply- it is on the way-thanks John.
Read some good books about pandemics. I am currently reading Stopping the Next Pandemic by Debora Mackenzie- it is excellent.

John, if things keep going the way they are our only hope our state governments devorce from the union, possibly as a group of like minded states.
