From the Desk of John Rourke

This website was created to be a source of survival & preparedness information with a few thoughts on world events thrown in. I’ve certainly deviated from that a bit over the last couple of years as “life events” contributed to some serious distractions as well as time constraints.

It’s time to get back on track, especially with the shitstorm going on all around us. One thing I would ask of all of you if you could: When I publish something that is of interest – please share with friends, family, and like-minded people. I’m doing my best to spread the word of preparedness and self-reliance across numerous social media platforms. I could use all the help I can get. Thx.

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Many of you know we live full-time in a camper and, well, cooking a 20lb turkey just isn’t possible in this little propane-powered oven. We ended up getting a small turkey breast instead and it turned out fantastic. MainePrepperGirl prepared a fantastic meal including mashed potatoes, stuffing(dressing for some), creamed corn – and turkey that was so juicy and full of flavor.

Every time I open the fridge I look at the leftovers and I hear the words…..“Get in ma belly!!!”

While it seems that the risk of any significant gun control is extremely low – there continues to be no better time than right now to stock up on firearms, magazines, ammunition, and accessories. I recently picked up rifle kit from MidStateFirearms.com. If you are not aware of what a “rifle kit” is – it’s basically the entire AR-15 firearm minus the serial-numbered lower part. The lower is actually considered the gun. Basically, I’ll take the rifle kit, add the stripped lower receiver – and put everything together. Once fully assembled I’ll have a fully functioning AR.

This particular gun I plan to do something a bit different. What exactly I’m not sure. Custom paint job possibly. I’ll share as I complete the project.

Had a set of Wrangler Duratracs put on MPG’s Jeep. Great snow tires.

I’ve had a set on my Ram 1500 Warlock and they have performed great. Mine have nearly 70,000 miles on them and will be replaced within the next few weeks.

Worked on making some charcloth today. Pic below shows it’s almost done.

Charcloth isn’t my favorite fire-starting material but it’s an option.

Recently I’ve had a heightened interest in knives. Well, over the past few months the interest has been coming on. Not really sure why other than maybe I’ve woken to the reality that a good cutting tool is extremely valuable in a wide variety of situations. I’ve always liked a big knife. Yeah – I’m talking Rambo-sized blades. A big knife can do a lot of things a small knife can do but a small knife can’t do the majority of things a big knife can do. Sorta.

My old Gerber BMF is still my favorite overall blade. It’s a beast – and heavy, bulky, and not the easiest thing to carry. I’ve been looking at picking up this Nedfoss bushcraft knife. Love the looks and well, it’s quite a bit smaller and easier to carry.

Sweet knife and I’ve seen good reviews online. I very well may check it out.
