I’ve been thinking of another AR project. Why not, right? The possibilities are truly endless with the AR platform and budget restraints d0 exist. I could build a 9mm carbine. That would be interesting though I have a Beretta CX4 Storm in 9mm that I am getting ready to start testing. How about building a lightweight AR? I like that idea. Just how light could I go for under $XXX? Hmmm…..I could do another AR-pistol with a “stabilizer” stock. Absolutely love my current one and it is my go to SHTF weapon. I always wanted to get a replica of a standard CAR-15. Maybe.

I would consider a .308 but just cannot afford that build right now.

Any ideas?

The extent in which the CIA is reported to be able to spy on civilians is concerning. While protection against terrorism is important it would be curious to know the amount of money – and the quantity of rights violated – to stop how many terrorist plots? For those of us worried about an abusive, overbearing government this is not very encouraging. The fact that Alex Jones – 11 years ago – actually reported on one of the programs involved in this latest report and named it by name(Weeping Angel) has me wondering.

Added a social media icon bar on the right side of the website. This links to the site’s accounts for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube, and Google+. Still in the process of updating some of these. The plan is in a month or so to start posting videos again. Can’t stand watching myself on video but enjoyed the interaction when I did it years ago. A bit odd as some of the content on the social media accounts are related to my previous project.

Before purchasing a free Kindle book on Amazon make certain the book is still free by making sure the price is $0.00. If it lists a price or says “read for free” or has a price for prime members the book is not free anymore.

    JR,

Have wanted to build a lightweight AR also. Tough compromises to consider–lightweight barrels don’t handle sustained fire well. Add one of JP’s cooling fins?
Crap, more stuff to add to make it work. But, it’s what I did on my .308 to get weight within reason. It’s still heavy but, my word, the bullet holes touch.

I have AR’s but when I’m seeking light weight (just about all the time), my go to rifles are pistol caliber carbines. Down here in the south, few things are beyond range and you know the advantages of pistol rounds fired from a rifle length barrel. And, they are all very light.

Have not bought a pistol AR–very tempted. I think that may just be the best approach to a “reach out and touch” rifle that needs to also be lightweight.

I’ll track your path on this one.

It’s funny, we that carry all want the lightest and most compact weapon we can find for CCW until, we need it. Then, we want the biggest cannon we can get our hands on.
    Mark me guilty.

    Take care,
    PB

Thaks PB. Yes – if a lightweight AR is the project a pencil barrel would be part of it. My AR pistol is not lightweight due to the quad rail but that could be an idea – a “lightweight AR pistol”.

As far as a light weight AR, have you decided on staying with the 556 or looking at other calibers. I know that I may get some grief, I did one in 68spc. All I can say is LOVE IT! Great out to 300. Found a great deal on some 110 Smk’s.

John – Likely sticking with the 5.56 although 9mm is a possibility. The cost of non-5.56 components tend to be out of my budget.
