From the Desk of John Rourke – July 24th, 2017

This will be a short one as Internet access is sketchy. Severe storms have rolled through the area causing power outages throughout the area. One positive is the temperature dropped from a high of 95 degrees to 75 degrees.

It is insane that so many in the Black community continue to vote Democrat and believe the narrative that Republicans are racist. The Liberal policies of the Democratic party do nothing but enslave…while Conservative policies create economic freedom and prosperity.

Gas prices are at a 12 year low. Although I have seen stories crediting Trump this has little to do with the President – or any President. It has to do with supply and demand.

Kayaking Sunday morning: HOT!!! Lot’s of sunblock. Exactly – sunblock. I am currently assembling a new EDC kit and almost done. After today I decided sunblock is absolutely something I need in it.

Personally I think the low prices are a combination of internal Opec squabbling, and selling against non Opec controlled sellers. It isn’t much of a stretch to think that the suppressed price is due to high prices encouraging energy independence. With high gas price other fuels and methods become economical. With low prices there is not much of an appetite for anything but consumption. Maybe that is by design.

Heat and cold are killers to semi-perishable contents of a bag. I travel a bit to get to work, so it’s reasonable to carry some foods. I’ve been considering, and am planning to put foods in a separate bag that I can take into the workplace just to avoid the temps. Same for meds. Most meds have what they call an excursion temperature (defined so many hours or days and such and such a temp). I can grab and go, and repack whenever it makes sense.
Obviously you won’t walk around with Bob though. So disguise him and a box with rags on top. or a cinched up trash bag etc.. I suppose yo could wire him up with a surprise.. seems a little paranoid though… maybe just a noise maker .. and a camera .. cuz that’s going to be funny… and a picture may be useful.
Post ur EDC when you get it JR.
It does bring to mind seasonal swap outs for bags again doesn’t it.

Loving the gas prices, I’ve been using up the stored emergency stuff and replacing it with ethanol free 90 octane.
I know sunscreen loses it’s potency in as little as 2 years (was burnt pretty good using old SPF-30 one summer) so we’ve switched over to the very lightweight shirts that are spf 50+. Lots of colors and styles to choose from in the fishing dept at the big box stores or online – I bought a couple long sleeve versions for each of us and while out in the garden I much prefer to wear these and a broad brimmed hat then use sunscreen. Most are made of 100% cotton or a synthetic material. I picked up a half dozen long sleeve white & light blue dress shirts at Goodwill in a couple sizes larger to use as outdoor shade shirts.
