ADVENTURE: River Kayaking

I have a new method which to bring adventure into my life: kayaking. Long overdue I’ve wanted to buy some kayaks for the family and take advantage of being so close to a river. Couple weeks ago I bit and my youngest son and I just made our first trip.

Great experience and look forward to many more. Coasting down the river was incredibly relaxing and peaceful. With the kayaks we could get into some locations that just aren’t accessible any other way. All in I paid about $230 for each kayak(including oars and life jacket).

Well worth it. I’m sure over the next several months I’ll post more pics from trips.

Was smiling when i saw the post and pics of your new adventure !!! Looks like the beginning of a sweet way to enjoy family, water and making great memories….something EVERYONE could use ! Is it just the perspective or do you have GARGANTUAN dragonflies ? WOW, impressive 🙂 glad to see the life jackets too-even on calm water.

It is fun .. I did some many years back …
If you go to other rowdier rivers .. get some instruction .. those class 3 and above white water are dangerous.. fun but dangerous. I went through 2 class fives and the broke me from any romantic ideas.. thoroughly.
Glad you got some lay back time and especially with your boy… I always thought I’d be bale to plan time well with my boy as he got older. Thing is, he was my first and I didn’t know how much faster things went as a busy HS student neared graduation. Then there is the whole social aspect as they get older. They try to figure out how to be independent, and we want them to, it just comes with stress and and less time spent with the old man.. My girls were better at it.. that is recognizing that mom and dad needed some time. Guys in general need to be hit with a 2×4 to get there attention at that age. Which is fine, but if it is unexpected .. it can hurt your feelings.. That clears up around age 25 or so .. same as it did for me when I was 25..
Anyway enjoy those time bud.. make some memories..

Thanks goingray58 – Chris is 13 and Jonathan is 17. Understand what you are saying especially with the 17 year old. He is a good kid but it is frustrating trying to pass on wisdom and he ignores it. Maybe I just think he does.

No big rapids for me. I like this river and it is exciting enough.

Looking dam good John, I can’t tell you enough how much I admire what you do and how you live bro! Your living what I only dream about, truly inspiring to read your post, I grew up in the mountains of Kentucky and Virginia, now live in southwest Florida as you already know, here going into the woods, are like hiking through mangroves, but I do admit, there are wonderes beauties I fell to explore, some how the grind of every day life seems to always take priority, stuck in this make more money, and get to my final goal of living off the grid sooner, but there’s always something else I need as well! Lol, like rental properties, the badest jeep to ever roll, nicer truck, another 52 gun safe cause mine won’t hold them any more! Lol, seams I go to far on a lot of what I do, I think it comes from being told what I couldn’t do, we’ve all shared some of that, but I know I will, the thing about getting older is you know your time is indeed limited, and it makes me think, things arnt really the goal, living is! And your doing it, remember, as you write aboutyour adventures, and share your life, you not only doing it for you and your family, your doing it for me, and all of us too brother! THANK YOU, you inspire more than you realize.

Heard that! I’ve shared some pics with rourke, and other close friends and family, probably shouldn’t have mentioned it here, maybe going grey soon, but I could be another guy talking out my ass, but, you are right, I should be a little more careful, times are changing, I need to adapt, thanks.
