Cheaper Than Dirt boycott continues

Remember when Cheaper Than Dirt jacked up prices on ammunition and magazines right after Sandy Hook? I do – and have avoided them like the plague ever since. Of course they had every right to charge whatever they wished and I  – and countless thousands  – have every right to tell them “Keep it!!”

I’ve had numerous people tell me they were practicing capitalism in a free market. Sure. They were also price gouging their customer base and taking advantage. My local gun shop went up in prices approx 20%. I gave them my business. This means I paid $1200 for a $1000 AR.

Why was it OK for them to increase their price and not Cheaper Than Dirt? I am not saying CTD shouldn’t have raised their prices. My local shop HAD to raise their price as supplies were drying up. They looked at a situation where they may have significantly lower inventory in the coming months thus severe decrease in business. The cost on future products – AR’s, magazines, ammunition was also going up. They very well couldn’t sell me a box of 5.56 for $8.00 that was going to cost them $8.00 or more to resupply. In order to stay in business they had to raise their prices.

No – Cheaper Than Dirt was different. They gouged the hell out of 2nd Amendment lovers and many others did the same thing. Hyatt Guns in Charlotte, NC started selling 5.56 and .223 rounds for $1.00 a round shortly after Sandy Hook. I haven’t set foot in that place and won’t.

Many predict another similar environment is just a matter of time when supply will pale in comparison to demand and prices will skyrocket. Those in a position to watch from the sidelines knowing their inventories are set will enjoy the show while those still in need of supplies will stress over their ability to stock up.

Stack it high – right now.

Sir… Are going to start a “Mag-Pool” as to when the Panic begins in earnest? (California doesn’t count)

It’s not difficult to decipher the actions of companies like Walmart, CTS and more resently Academy and compare those actions to those of companies like Danial Defense. These companies are free to do as they like, just as I am free to take my business elsewhere if I choose, and I do. As much as possible I do my business with a local gun store which opened a little over a year ago. Tim, the owner values my business with him as much as I value him bring there. Example: I went by his shop for a Glock grip sleeve, he was not there and they didn’t have one. One of his employees took my number and said they’d let Tim know. I could have gone to Academy and got it, but I didn’t. A couple days later Tim calls and asked what I needed. I told him and he said he’d order it and hold it for me. A week later I went and picked it up. That kind of service for a $7 item keeps me buying from him…..

Jr and Thomas -I think the panic is slowly starting re guns and ammo.
Jr YES I agree and we have also refrained from buying from Cheaper than Dirt. On the day before Sandy hit some stores that normally sols a 4 pack of D batteries for $5. had them up to $8. and $11. This is ourtageous.Made me happy at the time that we had a good supply of batteries.
FBI Director James Comey will be on Fox news at 11 am today to speak about Hillary and the e mail interview etc. I hope he will have the courage to indict her.Lightning

I agree and also boycott Dicks Sporting Goods due to their cancellation of layaways of Christmas ARs after Sandy Hook. Paid orders were cancelled. Bah Humbug. Grinch Dicks don’t get any of our family’s business. I visit a few local & SC gun stores, plus review the sale emails from PSA, Wideners, Natchezz and Midway, mainly in that order. Even though I have a Palmetto State Armory in town, I find some of their sales are cheaper by mail order than walking in the store.

I’d like to pick towards the end of September will we begin to see the prices steadily rise. Will never buy from CTD ever again, have even wrote ‘return to sender’ on the mailings they use to send. Been trying to standardize the calibers and magazines over the years so we just have to buy for them & get in line with like minded friends in the area. Getting harder to find the money to buy ammo with medical bills from a couple years ago and price on everything creeping up including cars/house repairs this year. Price of ammo if you follow ammoseek is starting to creep up, but it’s the shipping that really adds to the cost. Shipping adds at least 2-4 more cents to the ammo cost.

    I just read the following:

“The FBI won’t recommend criminal charges against Hillary Clinton for her use of a private email server while secretary of state, agency Director James Comey said Tuesday, lifting a major legal threat to her presidential campaign.”

The fix is in. Get ready for it, Hillary will be president. It’s already decided. I think with this announcement, it will shock people into action. The panic is getting ready to run full tilt. Ammo and guns will be off the shelves pretty soon when everyone realizes what is coming. Graying will start full bore. Vendors such as CTD will again jack up the prices. I used to bow hunt. I think I’ll refurbish all of may equipment to save the ammo I have.

  7. jh says:

Heck, after hearing that Clinton won’t see ANY charges the panic buying is probably starting today 7/5/16 at noon today. Because you know 100% Australian style gunban is coming once she is elected as “president”… a word I thought would never have seen to be worth nothing.

Just checked my usual items at Midway USA – Limits on Magpul PMAGs have been tightened to 5 mags from 10 mags per order. Magpul D60 sold out. Glock mags also 5 mag limit from 10 mag limit. We know with Clinton things will be a LOT worse for gun owners.

I agree JR. Plan to buy tomorrow and with local gun shops. Thanks for speaking your mind. – Keep Looking UP

What got me is when Comey said she was lying about getting and sending classified emails and she doesn’t even get charged with perjury. Been ordering from S/G and Natchez.

I was just out in the garden, about 5:45 pm, heard an obviously large jet going over. Looked up and saw Air Force one leaving out of Charlotte. I was immediately struck with a Biblical story….where Satan was on the mountain with Jesus during the tempting in the desert where Satan told Jesus to look out on all the lands before you. These I will give you if you will but bow down to me.

In the parallel, I could almost hear Obama telling Hillary, “look out this window. All these lands you see, I will assure your presidency of, if you will agree to my demands for my legacy and future”.

Even with the near 100 degree temp’s, I felt a bit of a chill run down my spine.

First I would like to say that I agree with every comment made today but I just don’t understand how ANYONE in their right mind could vote for Hillary. What kind of a society do we live in now! Scary and it should give us chills down our spines. I pray for the well being of my Grandchildren who are still young and have to live in the messed up USA to come.

I do have a question though; how much ammo if enough? Is that the magic question? Like someone said above, I am down to just a few caliber guns so I don’t have to buy a lot of different type ammo, that is expensive! Is 10K rounds enough? Opinions please. I also have more than one gun in a particular caliber (backup in case of failure) Spare parts could be a problem though, I don’t have any!

Also, I read a while back from one of you that you have stashed your weapons, could we get a discussion going on the various ways to do that. If Hillary comes after them, I don’t want them found!

    1. JR says:

      Good questions Fred –

My simple answer to the “How much ammo?” question is however much you can afford. COnsider your 10K round number – I assume you are not looking at that amount for just yourself. Reason for that statement is do you feel like you can survive the number of firefights to expend 10,000 rounds? I can tell you that I have a goal of 10,000 rounds of .223/5.56 and this number is due to my plans to supply several people and several individual arms.

Spare parts are absolutely needed as well. Choate Machine and Tool sells a small spare parts kit. Extra bolt carrier is also good to put back.

Stashing weapons – and I may start a new post/thread on your questions. I like the concept of stashing supplies at a friends house. Burying is certainly an option as well with many dynamics.

Hey, lets not stop with stores that are gouging everyone, let’s look at Hollywood hypocrites. Notably Matt Damon is the latest to crawl out against firearms yet look
at his movies, loaded with firearms, killing etc. Much as I like his movies, he is a great actor, and more importantly, entitled to his opinions, I also am entitled to vote with my feet and not go to his movies and feed the system that is against us. I just cannot do it anymore. They are f**king hypocrites with their armed guards, walled enclaves etc.
No different than the leftist morons with their ‘sit in’ on the floor of the Congress. Many of
them hold CCW permits not to mention their praetorian guard 24/7. The Divide is growing daily now and the chasm is deepening. We have to starve the system as much as possible and be conscious of who we deal with, where we expend our assets, look behind the curtain and act accordingly as to what we discover. Dallas was a wake up call to everyone, I am looking to take another tactical pistol course now despite a long time CCW holder and firearms owner. Folks, the shit has already hit the fan, it ain’t coming, its here now. And btw, this total disregard for the presumption of ‘law’ with the ‘she who will not be named’ , do not let anyone forget that the email/server scandal is small potatoes, its the clinton foundation that is the real reason for not having gone through regular channels with communication. Can’t have records, (no inspector general for state department during her entire tenure) and private servers etc are not subject to Freedom of Information Act. Largest money laundering, pay for play scandal involving likely enough people to topple our government. Just look at the numbers and the donors and all the required validation provided by the State Department for arms deals, uranium deals, etc. It is mind boggling to say the least. Just follow the money as they say. Do not let this story fall off the radar, its the nuclear bomb of scandals.

Off topic rant over now, will step off soapbox.
An aside, JR, I think 10k is a good number to achieve also, not including training supply.
