It was on December 7th, 1941 that 353 Japanese bombers attacked the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor, destroying 19 ships, 188 aircraft and killing over 2,000 Americans. It was this act that drove the United States into World War II. Always remember.
My father was 6 years old at Pearl when it was attacked at a babysitters.
I wonder if today’s administration would make the same decision and as quickly as FDR did it. I have my doubts. Hope we don’t find out the the Russia/Ukraine mess.
They might be depending upon the nature of the attack, however, with the division in America, I do not see the country coming together as it did after Pearl Harbor. The country was united after 9/11 – but within months began to separate and divide. This country has changed. The people, the culture, the experience called “life” is not the same.
Only to be outdone by the coup de ta held on Jan 6th.
And we did it to ourselves too.
Japen attacked and 2000+ people and we rightously go to war, the chinese attack us with biologics and kill over a half million mostly civilians and we keep buying Thier products……
Good point JohnP. I think if there was indisputable proof this was a “Chinese attack” the populace would react differently as well as the government.I would estimate 90% of the “truth” that people commonly spread around is crap…..on both sides.
John,your right, I think it would be easier to pan for gold in the desert than soft through all the carp out there to find the truth.
Unearthed information from this time period clearly indicates that the coming attack was known by fdr’s regime before it happened. They actually precipitated the reason for the attack by limiting Japans access to raw materials and petroleum in the Pacific theatre. Things are never as they seem. 9/11 was another inside job as well. Subterfuge is the name of the game.
All that aside, remembrance and honor for those lost still remains in the hearts of the American people.
ralph k, you bright to mind a story my mother told me many years ago, the government was paying for peach stones and as a kid picked all she could find. The charcoal made from the stone was supposedly used in gas mask filters. This was months before the attack.
