Ask a question and I will give you an answer. It can be about pretty much anything – politics, firearms, current events, survival, preparedness, or “Why do they sterilize lethal injections?“ – whatever.
Go ahead – “make my day.”

What are the oldest mres you’d eat? I still have some from 2004-2007 that have been in the basement of 65-70f
Well jh I guess it depends on how hungry I am. Based on your storage conditions I suspect they are coming up on max shelf life. Hey – go have lunch in the basement and report back what you find.
EMP – will vehicles be running or knocked out. Heard a lot of thoughts, anyone have a strong feeling? If so, shouldn’t we be getting 60’s model vehicles and fixing them up. I’m still shopping for one. Still looking for a trailer and land I can afford. Question?
I don’t have eyes, but once I did see. Once I had thoughts, but now I’m white and empty. That is all. . . – Keep Looking UP
Good question JBernDrApt and it is one that we have no definite answer. There are so many factors revolving around the effect EMP has on various electronic items. Height of detonation. Angle of detonation to electronic item. What if any type of mass/shielding exist between or around the electronic item. Whew! Hard to say not knowing.
As far as cars though most agree that owning a vehicle made before the mid-80’s when computers became much more prevalent. Research what components may be effected and store those in faraday cages.
What’s the best, most affordable way to learn how to weld and what kind of starter equip is recommended? Haven’t really thought about the details, but our BOL is a small farm and I am sure being able to weld will come in handy to repair equipment and build stuff.
Thanks!
RCP
I’ll answer that one because I have friend who did it. He has taken a welding course at the local vocational school every semester for years, keeps getting advanced training, uses great stuff, gets to make cool projects with expert help and supervision.
I looked into some of the local community colleges but it seemed expensive… at least to go through the full curriculum to get certified. Maybe just taking one class a semester like you said would be manageable. Thanks!
John Gault should be answering this one. John??????
Mind if I take a crack? MIG is the easiest to use and after only a little practice, allows you to produce picture perfect welds on steel. Be sure to get one that uses gas, not flux core wire–you’ll thank me later. Examples:
http://www.lincolnelectric.com/en-us/equipment/mig-Welders/Pages/mig-welders.aspx
These are 120V, dual voltage and 230 volt rigs. The 120V can be plugged into standard outlets and still weld fairly heavy materials. The main limitation of these smaller rigs is their duty cycle–typically 10-20 percent. That means you can only weld with it 1-2 minutes out of 10. The better ones include the ability to do TIG (the ultimate) which means you can do aluminum and alloy materials with the right rods and gases. I favor Lincoln because of their Diamond Core technology–means the internal electrical stuff has been resin dipped. Doesn’t sound like a big deal but remember you’ll be grinding and cutting and making lots of metal dust anytime you’re fabricating. I lost my Miller this way (did not have similar protection).
You’ll definitely want one of these:
