While the headline is a bit of an exaggeration there is no doubt the availability of common calibers is extremely low. I’ve been saying it for over a decade to stock up on firearms and ammunition – now.
After Sandy Hook, many of us were caught with our proverbial pants down. Lessons not learned back then are being taught now.
My prediction is regardless of the outcome of the upcoming elections ammunition will continue to be scarce. What does this mean for you? If your ammunition supply is satisfactory then nothing. If you are in need – then be ready to do some work scouring for in-stock sources – both online and local.
Over the past few weeks, I have traveled upwards of 3,000 miles. Along the way, I’ve seen 9mm ammunition for .90 cents/round – down to .38 cents/round. I’ve seen .380 ammo for $37.50 for a box of 50, down to $16.99.
AmmoSeek.com is a good place to search for online deals.
In summary – you can’t go back in time. With the level of uncertainty, we are all feeling, stocking up needs to happen starting right now.
I was asked recently what my opinion was of SouthernPrepper1’s recent video titled – “Prepper’s will die….No tactics are better than bad tactics“. In the video, SP1 discusses a combination of poor and incorrect tactical training, physical conditioning, and the propensity for prepper’s to train for offensive conditions.
While I have no military background and the majority of “tactical” training that I have had has been firearm based – I have a few thoughts.
I’ve always believed that given whatever the “SHTF” event is – avoiding problems is of paramount importance. This means taking a defensive stand on a day to day basis. Area patrol’s and scout’s to serve as information gatherers and early warning systems would be the extent of those leaving the retreat. Bringing the absolute minimum attention to yourself is a definite effort in self-preservation.
Preparation for suspect visitors is a must. Defensive tactics for protecting the property and fending off those who wish to do harm is certainly important. Tactics to go out and attack someone else’s property? Think about it. Consider the enormous risk to that operation.
Prepper groups need to work on what SP1 stated such as fortifying their position, covering areas of engagements, know the kill zones, and be capable of placing accurate fire into them. Everyone within the group needs to know their weapons systems. Placing fire downrange, accurately, and being able to quickly reload to re-engage are strong tactics that most should be capable of. A plan on what to do in case of attack needs to be made now.
SP1 discusses fitness level and age. I can tell you this is a HUGE problem I have seen first hand. Far too often people are just too “nice” to tell people the truth. If you cannot get down behind a 55-gallon barrel and get cover that is a issue that may get you killed. Prepper’s need to know their limitations. If a group member remembers what it was like before electricity then they are not likely one you can depend on for high demand physical activity. If someone is 150 pounds overweight and cannot run from Position A to Position B with some sense of urgency – then they need to stay at Position A or be delegated to another function(or not be in Position A to start with).
I’ll mention something else that drives me crazy – these posts about how as part of an arsenal you’ve got to have a rifle capable of shooting 600, 800, no – at least 1000 yards. Why? Again – if a possible threat is 1,000 yards away how much of a threat are they? How have you identified the target from that distance? If they are unaware of your presence and a shot is fired alerting them of your presence – wouldn’t it have been better to not shoot? Granted there are a gazillion scenario’s out there but in general, I don’t get it. I believe for the most part these types of discussions where a .300 Win Mag is pitted against the .308 Win versus a 6.5 Creedmore is an effort in futility. Come on.
The keyboard warrior mentality is alive and well. Preppers need to know their limitations and train/prepare accordingly.
North Korea continues their volatile actions with missile tests and threatening rhetoric. It’s easy to say they are all talk – and hopefully, they are. Need to remember those two North Korean satellites passing over the United States.
There is little excuse not to be armed in a manner which to defend yourself, your family, and your property. Prices on firearms are extremely favorable in today’s market as manufacturers fight for a suppressed demand(Hillary didn’t win) and an overabundance of supply(Hillary still didn’t win).
Take advantage, my friends. The future is uncertain. The world is an incredibly volatile place. What seems certain and predictable one day turns us into a fool another. While we hope for the best and prepare for the worst there is evil plotting against us – right this very moment.
Over the top? Tin foil hat? Conspiracy?
That’s up to you.

Beyond the ever increasing threats existing in the world and the possibility that significant gun control could be realized after the Presidential election – having an AR-15 can be flat out fun! Although there are many models out there costing well over $1000 if funds are a challenge there is still hope.

Located in South Carolina they do a massive online business and send out great sales flyers for those on their email list. I have toured their Columbia, SC location and talked to the owner/manager. He was a nice guy. The staff? Not so much. Regardless, their mail order business is excellent.

Putting together an AR in this manner can be done a little at a time and part by part. Stripped lowers/uppers can be purchased and then specific parts added over time. It can be a lot of fun putting together your own gun piece by piece.

I’m not a reloader and my overall knowledge of reloading is extremely basic. I have a buddy that will be taking me through the basics soon and in the Fall I will starting getting equipment.
With California’s recent gun control measures which include ammunition restrictions as part of their measures reloading is beginning to look even more attractive than normal. Reloading may be a way to circumvent gun control measures involving ammunition restrictions.

Seems that AR prices continue to drop. Sub-$500 AR’s that actually work are becoming more and more common from different sources. The days of an AR being a dream purchase are pretty much over. Layaway, financing, and of course saving are options to purchase one of these budget-friendly beasts.
ClassicFirearms.com often have Bear Creek AR’s for under $500. I used to have one of Bear Creek’s uppers and it was great. A friend has two of these AR’s and he speaks highly of them.
