Review: OffGrid Waterproof Matches – Inexpensive Fire Starting For Survival Kits or the Fire Pit

Originally made this video months ago as the snow started to thaw just before early Spring. You don’t hear a whole lot about storing matches for long-term survival. Back in the 80s storing matches was big for being able to get a fire going. A few thousand matches are cheap, lightweight, and work well. Today there are tons of high-tech fire-starting tools, but, I still put away a lot of matches including these waterproof matches that I make myself.

If interested you can see the waterproof matches over in the shop.

Take care all –

i have quite a few strike anywhere matches that i store in a ammo can with some desiccants, silica gel. i also buy a pack of bic lighters every so often and store them in ammo cans, ( i have hundreds now )
fire is very important. warmth can be had with clothing, blankets and shelter but you can’t cook food or boil water with em. i also have ferro rods and other more primitive ways to start one. i don’t limit myself to just one or the other, the ability to build a fire is just to important. to quote Jack London.

Kind of off topic, but I had a bic in a bugout bag in a closet for about 12 years. Dug the bag out and tried various stuff, then the bic. Flicked it and powdered flint blast in the face. Never seen that happen before. So they can fail.

Yipes. Hope you are OK. That made me remember back in 3rd grade I lit a match and the head flew off ad went in my right eye while it was flaming. Ugh! Scared me so much and was very painful. Luckily no serious injury.
