Project: Building the 10/22 Stealth Raptor

The ever-popular Ruger 10/22 is one of my all-time favorite firearms. Inexpensive, reliable, with good accuracy – and inexpensive to shoot makes it not just a fun plinker but a capable survival rifle.

In the very near future I’m going to be putting together a custom Ruger 10/22 with the goal of the project to have a very handy, reliable , and accurate semi-auto – and suppressed.  A tack driver out to 50 yards and capable beyond. The most important aspect of the entire project is…….it’s got to look COOL!!! Think about it: When you’re saving damsels in distress from roving brain-eating zombies and you putting round after round into the undead – you’ve got too look cool!!

As I gather components, the first one ordered is a Magpul Hunter X-22 stock. Seen in the picture above, I love the style, features, and ergonomics. If wrapped in a ghillie suit looking over a ridge waiting for another zombie to send a dose of medicine into the brain of the walking dead – comfort is a big benefit. I ordered off of eBay from American Optics. You can check out their offerings by following this link. They carry a huge range of firearm related products at great prices.

I’ll send out another update as The Stealth Raptor comes together.

Stay safe all –

I’m a big fan of the 10-22 as well owning seven of them. Two of them are in a clamp gizmo mounted to a NATO machinegun tripod turret with a Gatling type wheel with cams that tickle the triggers on each receiver twice with turn of the wheel. Great fun but the ammo can go oh so fast!

CaptTurbo – I remember when that contraption came out. What a fun device!!!! I’d love to see a video of that thing throwing some lead downrange!

Wish I could post pics of it here. It survived the flood since it’s so robust and I jumped on it with the Salt-X product.

I have a 10/22 with a Fajen laminate thumbhole stock, Volquartsen trigger, carbon fiber threaded barrel, Vortex scope. The carbon fiber barrel is very light compared to the fluted .092 bull barrel, extremely accurate and the zero doesn’t change when used with a suppressor. Shooting CCI subs it is quieter than a pellet rifle. The 10/22 is a great platform with tons of upgrades available and I consider it a “must have” rifle.

Agree Romeo Charlie. This will be my first 10/22 project in several years but will not be my last. Hoping to put it together this coming weekend.

That sounds amazing and sweet! I built one up many years ago with one of the early Butler Creek carbon fiber bull barrels and was sadly underwhelmed with the accuracy. I’m sure they’ve come a long way since then.

I was skeptical of CF until a friend who has a Volquartsen CF on his 10/22 let me shoot his and the accuracy and light weight was amazing. It really balances out the rifle. The .092 steel bull barrel is fine shooting on a bench rest but when firing from the shoulder (standing) it’s front heavy (even fluted) and harder to steady where the CF’s light weight puts the weight near center of the receiver and a lot less “wobble”.

The suppressed/unsuppressed no change zero was an unexpected bonus.

Me too. Apparently the carbon fiber surrounding the barrel doesn’t create the same harmonic changes that a solid steel barrel does so it stays the same with or without.
