I had to laugh with the mention of GIllian’s Island. Loved that show as a kid. Big crush on Mary Ann.

Added to the list in the Projects section. Thanks!

    I’d add 10 Cloverfield Lane for Apocalyptic/Invasion
And definitely The Revenant in Wilderness Survival.
    Great list by the way!!

  2. Oren says:

    Robinson Crusoe
The Revenant, a true story of Hugh Glass

Man in the Wilderness, starring Richard Harris (1971)

I read the book on Zachary Bass. This is THE book, my grandfather had. I’m not sure if the modern day movie has all of the gory details such as when he had been severely mauled and left for dead, how he crawled on his belly for miles, how he ate buffalo chip and grass to stay alive. That’s a true survival story. The old book was graphic. Most likely because it hadn’t been that long since it had taken place comparatively.

Just a few that I remember.

It would be neat if I had the story completed on my grandfather. He was shanghaied onto a Dutch freighter around 1910. He jumped ship in England and had to survive on the streets until he was able to sneak aboard and sail on an American “man of war”. Heck of a story. Also, if everyone will look back into their families, they may find stories of survival. I have a sketchy story of relatives during the Civil War. Having to eat grass, shoe leather etc. to stay alive. There are a number of stories out there that have been passed down in the families on survival that are not in history books. It would be interesting to see some of them.

How about the movie staring Cliff Robinson and Ty Hardin….PT-109. For the younger group, this is the story of John F. Kennedy during WWII. The effort it required to survive having their PT boat cut in half by a Japanese destroyer while on a patrol in what was referred to as “the Slot” located in the Solomon Islands in 1943. The book is better than the movie, but the movie is not bad at all.

When Worlds Collide (1951) Barbara Rush, Richard Derr and Peter Hansen

Panic in the year zero (1962) Ray milland and Frankie Avalon

I’m always surprised that “Right at Your Door” misses these lists. It’s a good little film imdb.com/title/tt0458367/

I’ve added most of the suggestions to the master list in the “Projects” section – which I will continue to update as time moves on. Keep ’em coming if you think of any.
