Going Old School – the Nunchuku for Self Defense

As a kid growing up in the ’80s and seeing Bruce Lee dispatch several opponents with the nunchuku I became an avid practitioner. The speed, versatility, and pure power of the nunchuku had me practicing for hours. Much like riding a bike I can pick them up after not touching them for years and twirl, spin, and swing them like I was 16 years old.

How good of a weapon is the nunchuku? If it came down to it I would choose them over nothing for sure. What they are very good for is exercise, fun – and improving coordination with defense as an available option.

There are tons of instructional videos on Youtube and great books to learn the nunchuku. Just getting started? Begin with padded models and go up from there.

Keep swinging!

There are always funny video’s showing people accidently hitting themselves with these, most of the time in spots where it really hurts. I think I will stick with my guns!

I have a couple of pairs around somewhere. Now that you’ve put it in my mind, I’ll have to go find them, and hopefully not brain myself. This time.

Yep, I had some nunchaku! I did martial arts for about ten year and ended up liking the Pilipino Escrima sticks over the nunchakus.

Check your state laws here in upstate NY they are illegal and considered a felony if used. My brother got arrested years ago just because he had them in his trunk and did not know that was the law. Good old NY .I would move if I could.
