From the Desk of John Rourke – December 9th, 2017

Ran into a true unicorn today – the Kel-Tec CMR-30. I have been to gun shows and numerous gun shops in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia – never seen one – ever. If not familiar the CMR is the carbine version of the popular Kel-Tec PMR-30 .22 magnum semi-automatic pistol(which I own). I have wanted a CMR since their manufacturing was announced.

It was soooo tempting but had to walk out empty handed. I schemed all the way home how I could afford it. Was there something I could trade in? Was there something I could sell? Oh well – they are really fun guns but will just have to wait.

A large topic in social media and mainstream media is related to “fake news”.  Fake news comes from a variety of different sources including websites that post fake articles and from people or organizations that create “propaganda” for a desired effect. I have myself fell for fake news before believing it to be real. It can be very embarrassing.

Fake news goes to the concept of doing your own research and think for yourself. Base opinions and beliefs on facts and logic – rather than emotion and fantasy.

The whole fake news issue is simply the beginning of the elites attack on the 1st Amendment and wanting to have government control all information disseminated to the public, nothing more. If the fake news crowd gets their way, we’ll only have CNN, MSNBC, and other “approved” sites to go to to get “the truth”. We’re going down the path of North Korea, China, the Soviet Union, and many 3rd World dictatorships.

Good point regarding the attack on the 1st Amendment. If a website wishes to publish spoof news articles so be it. My point is people need to be aware that what appears as very credible may not be – from both sides of the aisle.

The major source of fake news is the Network “news” media and they have been pumping it for decades.
Oh, and I would never trust my life to a Kel-Tec.

I’m a bit amused and perplexed by the new gullibility of so many people willing to believe it because “I read it on the internet”. These are the same fools that have been reading and believing the supermarket tabloids for generations. It’s not difficult to double check what you read, and if it seems to be a bit sensationalist, you owe it to yourself to verify it before you believe or repeat it.
