From the Desk of John Rourke – May 22nd, 2017

The last several days has been extremely busy. I am still recovering. Attended an out of town, multi-day training meeting that involved early mornings and late nights. Overall very informative and a positive experience. Put me behind quite a bit working on the website and other stuff at home.

Well – this business trip did have its perks…..

Was supposed to attend a pistol training class this past Saturday(after my work training was finished). Unfortunately, the instructor had an emergency and the class was canceled. A high school buddy of mine had already driven over 2 hours the night before so I met up with him and we did a little training ourselves. He is a beginner and purchased a Glock 17 last year.

It was a great few hours of shooting. He was very safe and I never had to say anything to him about pointing down range, finger off the trigger, etc.

I did see numerous examples of limp wristing. I’ve never seen that before only heard about the possibility in magazines and internet forums. I had him doing some drills drawing and shooting from the hip at very close range. Several times the slide failed to go back far enough to eject. Once he brought the pistol up and shot with both hands no issues. Just not holding it tight enough.

My buddy did well.

A growing number of House Republicans are facing physical threats from angry constituents in their districts, leading many to fear for their safety.

In the last few weeks alone, the FBI arrested a man threatening Rep. Martha McSally’s (R-Ariz.) life, a woman pursued Rep. David Kustoff (R-Tenn.) in her car, and Rep. Tom Garrett (R-Va.) heightened security at a town hall event in response to death threats.

Other Republicans still holding town halls say they haven’t felt physically threatened by protesters, but they worry about the depth of anger from some constituents in the polarized environment and what it means for political civility.
