This heat has really kicked into high gear. Newer cucumber plants are taking it while squash is begging for mercy. Wifey is tired of all the tomato’s and given up on picking them. Given an SHTF this would not be so as watering would be performed much more frequently and tomato’s attended to with no issues. Since all is good the garden is on its way out for the summer. One of the most successful I’ve had in 14 years. Looking towards Fall planting and garden maintenance.

Fairly soon I will be taking a week off from publishing the daily “From the Desk….” posts in order to finish my new book – “The No BS Survival Plan”. With all the things I have going on I cannot find the time to get me over the edge and complete it.

Bush’s Baked Beans has a recall related to leaking cans. See the info HERE.

Local paper shows sign of something to be concerned about post-SHTF that is rarely talked about.

Did you hear the USS Gerald R. Ford – Navy’s new aircraft carrier – has set sail with gender neutral bathrooms?
……and down the rabbit hole, we go.

Getting ready to do more testing with the dirt cheap thermal I have. Will post some pictures and videos.

Everything but Tomatoes and potatoes have given up here… This year we are putting in a fall garden. First time really. we’ll see how it goes, we’ve found some dates they should be in the ground by, with the plants suggested for our area. Frequently we get a second crop of berries in our area for Raspberries, and looking at it over the last couple years it makes a little more sense. What makes a plant grow ? Sun, water and whatever is in the dirt right ? Capt. Obvious I know. When i was looking at grow lights I found out that there specific wavelengths and amounts of them that cause plants to flower, and then other wavelengths that promote more growth than flowering. reds and blues specifically. 9you can look up the amounts and wavelengths if you want I won’t bore you here). All that to say the tilt of the earth and the way light is filtered causes it to be just right, and in the fall similar conditions and waves lengths occur, because it is tilted the other direction growing into fall with a similar degree of incidence. Again there is a scientific description that would fill books and does. So in the fall some plants are suited to flower and then tolerate the cool weather well enough to mature before winter. Cabbage, Chard, Lettuce, Squash (several kinds), Tomatoes… and others.
So we’re trying our hand. Different areas have different dates based on usual weather patterns. Fort us they have to be in the ground by first week of August .. then yo have to pay attention so they don’t burn up until it cools some and may need to cover them from frost a time or two. we’ll see. But that would mean we can raise food Spring through Fall. Between that, the critters we raise, our pond and canning we should be ok year round. We’ll see..
Gender neutral ? .. well a potty is a potty .. but I can’t imagine a bunch of young guys and galls sharing the head and showers, if it goes that far will go well. Adults ok .. but from what I vaguely remember of my twenties around the hormones .. nope. Then there is guys in skirts and that .. big nope. Can’t see a bunch of Alpha’s and guys in drag sharing well either. Sigh!!
Gangs are hardly deterred now .. so when a bunch of police decide to stay home and protect their families it was always going be that way in a crisis. Criminals are opportunists.
Good luck with the book

Good stuff GG58. Appreciate you sharing. I would say the success of my garden this year is improved soil due to adding composted cow manure and fairly consistent water. Fertilizer was used early on but it has been quite a while since my last dressing.
Thanks for the comment on the book. It feels like a daunting task but once I get into it I think it will start coming together.
Gender neutral? Ok. Maybe with this the crew won’t need liberty in port anymore. Entertainment is on board. I wonder when the safe spaces will be designated. Oh brother. What in the heck are we doing?
Gender neutral with all those “semen” running around, OH MY!!!! You know what they say about naval ships, there full of semen!!!!!!
Like I have said many times in the past, if you really want to see what we should be concerned with post shtf, just watch a few episode’s of Gangland on Spike TV. Many of these gangs are as organized as a small army unit and as well armed.
Good point JAS.
Down here in blistering SW Florida the Chinese yard long beans are coming on like gangbusters. The moringa is growing like crazy too. My purple tree collards look like they might make it through the heat of summer but I’m not harvesting. Just hoping they survive to thrive again when the heat eases off and the days are shorter.. Otherwise, I have wild sweet potatoes that love the heat and garlic chives that I have had in the garden for almost 30 years that are bullet proof.
Thanks CaptTurbo.
The nights here have been 52 and 62 with rain and clouds during the day. Our gardens are just really producing now .
Rourke- what do you have in mind for watering your garden should the SHTF?
College days went from all girls dorms and all guys dorms with curfew to 24 hr open and coed dorms-the woman were not pleased when the guys would shave and leave the sinks dirty and the seats up….
today I was happy to read that Pres. Trump will stop the funding of transgendered
surgeries etc. being paid for by the military- when those who are injured near rhe medical care. Lightning
