It can be difficult at these times of low unemployment and record-breaking stock markets to be concerned about preparedness. The focus on economic collapse seems to have fizzled out with many preppers. I’ve seen it first hand. While the stock market cranks out incredible gains – the world is becoming ever more dangerous. Are there reasons to cut back and lower your guard?
Quite the opposite.

Ruger has come out with a new 9mm carbine – The Ruger PC Carbine – that is reminiscent of some of their past offerings. I’m sure it will be a great selling and being able to be taken down and stored away is a great selling point.
Running around $525 street price it is fairly affordable.

I like the 10mm cartridge. I’ve written numerous times about my desire to have a Glock 20 – someday. It may be more of a novelty than anything but I’ll have one eventually.
I’ve seen several new firearms coming out for the cartridge. Hi-Point has a carbine – and a few 1911’s have been released.

The frigid temperatures and massive snowfall along the east coast and elsewhere is unbelievable. It is dropping to 16 here in South Carolina. That is loooooowwwwww!

Snow and wind and temperatures are the big story everywhere so far!
My thoughts are with those of you who don’t normally deal with cold winters. I hope none of you lose your heat.
I sure wish that when they made rifles in pistol calibers, that they would do it in .45 ACP, 9 mm, and 40 S&W. I would buy .45 ACP rifles so I don’t have another caliber to have to stock up on. I am really happy to see more AR Pistols now in .45 ACP, and wish I could use my XD magazines in them, but I will take the Glock Mag ones if that is what is available.
…AND, don’t forget the 10mm – wow, what a combo pistol & carbine that would be !!

Rourke, here between Six Mile, SC and Clemson, SC, I’ve recorded a morning at 5 degrees and this morning is 10 degrees. I won’t tell you my feelings on these temperatures except I don’t like them. I spent over half of my work career as a Construction Manager in the Northern Tier States. I looked forward to retiring to SC. Darned if this sorry weather didn’t follow me home.
John;
I have an idea about Faraday protection that I would like to share with you for your thoughts. If you think it has value, share it. Since I don’t want to appear goofy for having forgotten some critical element, I’d prefer sharing via private e-mail if possible…
Thanx, David
Rourke and everyone. We are having temps of minus 25 tonight. The wind is brutal.
The preppers mantra that 3 are 2 and two are 1 is true.-especially with frozen pipes and extra heaters etc etc.
Just heard that next week the CDC is going to tell us all how to prepare for nuclear war while assuring us that its not probable or imminent-hmmmm-me thinks they know something .We have our gas masks and our extra supplies and yes those potassium pills-but honestly while I shudder and pray for the younger generation .I am not going to try to survive nuclear war. Instead I will pray harder and hug and love my family and friends .and continue to be kind to others and cherish the daily blessings of each day and of Gods magnificent creation.

Good point about the improved economy causing some to cut back and lower their guard. We haven’t cut back, but our preps really do need attention. This is one of my 2018 goals, to improve on our preparedness. To start, I’m going to finish reading all the books/articles I have downloaded, get it all organized and a list going of the top issues for us. Thanks to JR–I have an Amazon Fire with an awesome library on preparedness!
Here’s something we may all want to see. Not sure if this is to be broadcast or not. This was on CBS news. However, the CDC has this info on their website. Seems things are getting more uncertain as each day goes by.

Its a good time to read FM 21-76 US Army Survival Manual, especially Chapter 23, It give guidelines and timelines for surviving a Nuclear attack (assuming you are not in the actual blast zone).
