From the Desk of John Rourke – December 13th, 2017

I have now convinced myself I must have this……

Well – Life Happens.

My older son had a driver run a red light and Jonathan t-boned him. He was banged up a bit but is OK. The accident was witnessed by a police officer so the blame was rightly placed on the other driver. He was driving my youngest sons 1994 Jeep Cherokee.

Project Jeep Cherokee is put on hold….for now.

The Cherokee will be totaled and I am waiting to hear what the payout will be. The plan is to buy another one . Hopefully, we will get enough to pick up a slightly newer model after the interior change but I’m not really concerned with that. A lift kit already included would be great. Of course, when I look around it is possible a different make and model might be found.

A budget 4×4 around $2000 leaves limited options and after working on and driving the Cherokee I am biased in that direction.

Think forward to 2020. How nasty is this next Presidential election going to get? Of course, we’ll have other elections on a State-level as a precursor.

Sorry to hear about the accident. Is your son ok? If not make sure he gets the medical care he needs under the car insurance policy.

You are so fortunate to have only a slightly banged up son safe home with you as you enjoy the Christmas/New Years celebrations. Life (and death) happens EVERY day to change and inconvenience us no matter what season. The blessings of this year’s holiday will be even more sweet as you share together, with gratitude and joy, the gift of life. Time together making memories is one of the greatest gifts we have…

i hope the replacement vehicle ends up being even better than the one lost. Quite often it works that way but meanwhile, our emotions and frustrations can make life more than difficult when one is already so busy. Stay flexible so you don’t break…i don’t know how you do everything you do and now, extra tasks piled on top of the load you already have. THANK YOU again for what you do for us here on 1776…

As i think back to Christmas a year ago, there have been many changes in my world as well as the world at large. YET, there is a sameness, as if everything will continue, never stopping…same old-same old. Being complacent and sometimes indifferent is the path of least resistance that sucks me in as i try to keep it all together. After all, change, even when one CHOOSES it, IS. NOT. EASY. We are all choosing change though, one way or another…to just flow with what is going on in our world, being molded BY it or choosing the path and by design, GUIDE the change coming. At my age you would think this bit of truth would have been learned long ago. i think when this earthly journey is over, i will say that even TWICE the time allotted wouldn’t be enough to learn, see or do all one imagines.

As you all feel the squeeze of too much to do and not enough time this Christmas, stop to rest, (often,) but don’t quit….

“Time together making memories is one of the greatest gifts we have.” I’ve been dealing with a semi-empty nest for this last year, but I’ve been able to reconnect with an older relative who just moved back to the area. For the first time in I-don’t-know-when, I’m having coffee and going shopping with someone who knows my roots. I’d been at loose ends, and now I feel like the circle has closed.

My thoughts are with you, Joyce, and also with Rourke’s family. May you all find a sense of peace and wonder throughout the holiday season.
