How long canned foods last is a frequent topic when food storage comes up as a preparedness topic. Canned food remains one of the most popular means to stock up We recently took a trip to Chimney Rock, NC as my youngest son was getting married. Chimney Rock is an absolutely beautiful area full of mountains, rivers, lakes, wildlife – and some really unique shops. Doing a little shopping, Maine Prepper Girl and I visited HipHen Uniques, an antique shop nearby. While looking around came across a can of Campbell’s BATMAN Soup. This appears to basically be Chicken Noodle Soup in shapes related to Batman.
The can has a date of April 24th, 2009 on the bottom. This “best by” date has long since past.
I bought the Campbell’s Batman Soup in Bat Cave, NC. How about that?
So – do you think the soup inside will still be good? I’m going to open it this weekend and give it a shot. I have no idea how it has been stored over the last 14 years, but, the can looks to be in great shape.
Stay tuned!!

You’re braver than I am, but I’ll interested in knowing how it all turns out. Or stays down. The can seems to be in excellent condition, and I’m thinking it just probably won’t taste as good as fresh. A lot is going to depend on what it smells like when you open it.
Maybe not as good as new .. but edible

Do you have obummer health care? Get ready for the bat signal, lol.
LOL….no Obummer Care…..guess I’ll have to use private healthcare and hope for the best. Ugh……
Hardcore Prepper
LOL……maybe!!!!
It is going to be good but taste funny.
Not only will it still be good, it will have the same nutritional value as had when it went in the can originally.
Hope your right!!!
It’s either good or it’s bad. You would normally know before you open it. Bulged or leaking cans is the way I have found the bad ones. I don’t even bother buying canned stuff anymore since I realized that I can grow more food than I can eat. I have loads of canned stuff from farther back than that. I go through it once in a while to discard the ones that have started leaking.
50/50 shot. There’s that guy on YouTube that eats MRE’s from Vietnam and even further back.
🙏🙏🙏🙏
As a life long canner over 50 years( and my Mom canned also) I know that if stored in a cool, dry area canned goods can last many years. If the can is rusted or dented or pooping open or if it smells bad please discard it. In 30 years I probably have only had to discard 14 itens and we have e very damp cellar. This is why cold sellers were so invaluable years ago. They kept fresh and canned foods from freezing and or getting too hot.
Let us know how that soup tasted !! Arlene
BATMAN will not let you down.
have plenty of the Bat TP on hand
Good advice!!
I am betting that if the can is in good shape the food will be too.
I’m hoping. I’ve said for years that canned goods are good to go for many years after their “date”. Of course, I do not know how this one was stored but I am hopeful.
LOL, this subject brought out several folks I’ve not seen here before. Kinda like me, primarily an observer ☺️
That said just remember you are in an RV … we lived in ours for 3 years and it is never good when someone needs to spend more time than usual in the potty.
Cool find, good luck!
That had me cracking up – just read it to Maine Prepper Girl. She appreciated it. I’m planning on opening the can tomorrow. We will see!!! Appreciate you that normally just lurks around speaking up. Share your thoughts! I and others love to hear them.
Well, in case you lose at the spin of the wheel, there are some things that I keep on hand for food poisoning that can really help a lot. 1) drink a few ounces of colloidal silver every three or four hours until it passes. 2) take activated charcoal because it binds with the “bad guys” and takes it out of you. 3) and the best bet, do both.
Oh man, y’all was just a few more miles from me, would have been a blast to meet y’all, great article hope y’all survived the soup.
