Basic winter preparedness…….

Depending on where you live a power outage in the midst of winter can be deadly. Have a good supply of blankets, sleeping bags, and warm clothing “just in case”.  Don’t forget about your vehicle. People die every year after their car slides off the road and becomes stuck. If you need to wait for several hours and your car isn’t running have extra blankets, hand warmers, etc. to stay warm.

here in the deep south it rarely snows, ice storms are more common as well as wind related outages. power outages always accompany them. a 1/4 inch of snow or one reported icicle and everything shuts down here, so no place to go anyhow other than checking in on the old folks.
lights are important, i have over the years of grid down events have come to depend on kerosine for lights and propane for everything else, it will work rain or shine. we have 3 mr buddy heaters, 2 coleman 2 burner propane stoves and 40 of the 20lb bottles for emergency heat and cooking put back. i need to get some more tanks JIC, propane will not go bad.
generators are great but burn through a lot of fuel and gas is hard to store long term and impossible to get when the elect. grid is down. i stored non-ethanol gas with Pri-g for a year and a half once (i had it in another bldg and forgot about having it) and it still worked in my tiller, but i would not depend in it. i cannot emphasize this enough, NEVER, EVER put ethanol gas in anything except for your daily driver.
all of this has been my experience’s over the years and of course it depends on your location, i hope this helps.
