Saturday’s – “What on your mind?”

Here is a place to share things you’ve been thinking about lately. What kind of things?

  • Recent accomplishments in preparedness.
  • Projects being worked on.
  • Thoughts on world events.
  • Recent purchases & recommendations
  • Current events related to politics, terrorism, crime – whatever.
  • Go on an adventure or have fun? Share it!
  • Whatever is on your mind….

My turn…..

  • I’ve not had cable or satellite now for about 3 years. Between Netflix, Hulu, and bootleg movies and TV shows I really haven’t missed it. I spend about $50 per month on services and digital media purchases. I use Roku boxes mostly. I just signed up for a trial for Hulu Live. Hulu Live allows for live streaming of several TV channels. This is similar to cable. So far I really like it especially as I can watch Fox News. All my Roku boxes are too old to load Hulu Live so I picked up an Amazon Fire Stick – which I love. As a Prime member, I can access a ton of entertainment in the Prime library.

  • Looks like SOMETHING might – maybe – possibly – pass through Congress. No big deal. Just the largest tax cut in US history. We’ll see.

  • Is the creation of a “zombie” possible? I mean, there are concoctions in Haiti that slow the heart rate to the point that people appear to be dead – and then rise again later. We’ve had people trip out so bad on drugs they actually eat people. If some “mad scientist” had the tools and know-how I suspect they could design a drug to create the equivalent of a modern-day zombie. Possibly they would not feel pain thus they would just keep on going until their central nervous system is no longer functioning or the heart stops beating. Hmmm…….

  • Pick up a Mora knife. Man – this thing is incredibly sharp. For around $12.00 it is a great deal.

Mora, knife, survival knife, survival kit, bushcraft

Something for you…….a little “prepper humor”

Sooner of later, one of two things is going to happen. Either the little fat guy in NK is going to be pushed into the corner and he is going to over react and launch on the US or there is going to be a pandemic. “From 1 August through 30 October 2017, a total of 1801 confirmed, probable and suspected cases of pneumonic plague, including 127 deaths, have been reported by the Ministry of Health of Madagascar to WHO.” There are two main clinical forms of plague infection: bubonic and pneumonic. Bubonic plague is the most common form and is characterized by painful swollen lymph nodes or ‘buboes’. Plague is transmitted between animals and humans by the bite of infected fleas, direct contact with infected tissues, and inhalation of infected respiratory droplets.
Plague can be a very severe disease in people, with a case-fatality ratio of 30% to 60% for the bubonic type, and is always fatal for the pneumonic kind when left untreated.
With the lack of travel restrictions you can expect the pneumonic plague to spread since it can be air born. There are a number of countries on the East African coast with travel alerts, not restrictions. Can you imagine the overload of the health care system here in the US if this gets loose?

These two are the major issues I worry about. With NK, I see an EMP. With a pandemic, I see isolation until the wild fire of the disease burns itself out if it gets here. Either event requires preparations and the ability to keep the herd at bay.

    Nutrition:
Around our place, we focus on Ethical Eating.

We continue to add more vegetables and fruits to our meals, at least 2/3 of each plate. Organic of course.

We eliminated seeds for us and the animals… NO grains, nuts, legumes. The lectines never agreed with us, and the phytates were more trouble than the limited nutrition they offer.

After everything we hear about the benefits of coconut oil, we increased our dose to at least a couple heaping soupspoons daily. With this supplementing our healthy diet, we have zero concerns about flu… or plague. Thoughts create.

    Cookers:
We’re looking at electric pressure cookers. According to research from the Weston Price folks, leaching of nickel from stainless steel continues to be a major problem. Apparently, just about every human has negative reactions to nickel, externally or internally. Any suggestions for electric pressure cookers are appreciated.

    Bone broths:
We always have a tub of bones cooking into broth. Our new favorite is duck bone broth. Second is elk and deer bone broth. These animals are taken while ‘free ranging’ on their natural diet… no grains, no soy, no cottonseed, no feedlot.

    Admirable Folk:
We signed with his newsletter from author Michael Bunker of Texas. His family lives ‘simple’. The daughters started a go-fund for their next mule-drawn wagon. They seem like they would make good neighbors.

    Knives:
We admit our addiction. At least once a year, we pilgrim to the huge three-day knife show at the fairgrounds in Eugene, Oregon. We chat with each of the thousands of vendors, we fondle samurai swords, we grope machetes. And yes, we carry bandages.

Okay, totally different subject. I am just curious as to what people do with their concealed weapon when they must make a “sitting” visit in a public restroom? I guess this is only a concern if it is carried in or around the waist. Obviously, women could possibly transfer to the purse if there is room, but men usually don’t have such conveniences.

    1. 3rdMan says:

Stays in the holster no matter what!!! If you feel like taking it off your belt, leave in the holster. You can use a handicap stall and set it on the railing or on top of the toilet paper dispenser, if it will stay. I guess you can even keep it in your lap. Always in the holster though.

      1. 3rdMan says:

Oh, one more way is spread your ankles out so your pants are tight and the firearm will remain in place next to your calf point downward.

    2. JR says:

Gun out of the holster and laid between my legs with pants tight. Basically, I create a hammock.

If I am using a holster with a retainment system that will hold the firearm securely then at that point I just leave it in the holster attached to the pants.

Using an Alien Gear IWB for some time now with G19. Comfortable and can tuck shirt over it if need be. As to the restaurant dilemma, even if not covered with shirt, just remove my coat and put it on back of chair. Take off the garment while seated so no flashing of whats on me at all. Nothing to see. A booth is even more secure environment. Good advice above about leaving it in the holster if needing to take off the
pistol, for whatever reason. And especially important not to attempt to grab it if the pistol falls to the floor, too easy for a bang to occur. Just let it drop and pick it up. Also keep in mind some eateries also have alcohol about and that is verboten in some jurisdictions mixed with firearms, know your laws in this regard. Usually a misdemeanor nonetheless in most places.

FYI pneumonic is transmittable person to person .. FYI…. and can kill within 24 hours.. so it usually burns out.. before it goes too far… but global travel.. airports and if it were deliberate aerosol .. it would be pretty bad yes.

concentrating on food and medical recently .. some shooting practice.. and some mineral blocks in the tree line 🙂
Big chicken killing next weekend .. two green city fellers.. will assist .. should be interesting.

Final walk through on a .57 acre house. It has 16 fruit trees as well as many grape vines. Closing is on 12/7/17. I’m so excited, that I just can’t hide it.
